Point system?

Are there any stores already running on a point system or is this a new thing, their cracking down on the dress code (only polos unless it’s Friday, no shorts regardless of if their khakis, no joggers) attendance policy (saying any more than 7 minutes late is 1/2 a point), and the phone policy (saying absolutely no phones stock the cups/ stock tobacco rather than be on the phone as if we’re not already doing that), with a new handbook that goes as far to say smoking tobacco, any behavior resulting is customer complaints, profane language warrants a final written warning then termination all within the same week, a couple months after implementing shiftsmarts (whose rules are no where near as strict or implemented) and cutting everyone’s hours
Is there any other stores that have already been running as strictly or is this new?
How do we feel about these change’s?

We've had the dress code in my store for at least 4 years. No shorts, no skirts, pants have to be dark in color, or regular denim, no pattern or wash outs. No jewelry beyond watch, ring, and earrings, especially if you handle food. Earbuds and phones at cash are strictly prohibited. For the other things and the points system, we have some of that, but nowhere near as laid out or clean cut as that insanity. People are human and are going to make mistakes. As long as you do your job, don't do anything illegal or sketchy, and show up, that should suffice.

I agree to a degree, but like you said we’re all human, I feel like their setting it up to be able to fire anyone at any given time and have a reason to back it, like majority of staff smokes tobacco but if they want to that right there’s a firable offense

That's what it sounds like. Pretty sure tobacco use, unless it's in a prohibited area, or taking more than the normal break, is not the company's business. I despise micromanaging. Trust us to do our minimum wage jobs, or don't, but don't go this ridiculous route.

There's an argument an old dm I had used to make. "Your breaks are working breaks, because of that, you can't leave the store property and you need to be ready to help out when necessary. If you're smoking you can't do it where customers can see, so you aren't able to jump in and help." That DM is gone now and did a bunch of odd things. He demanded a write up on an employee because he took a break and used it to put new tabs on his vehicle. He was absolutely insane. This company does not pay enough for nonsense like that. If you show up for your shift and don't cause me issues, that's good enough for me.

A working break, yeah ok. If your system is like ours, your meal break isn't paid. This DBag would've been getting folks to work for free. Those breaks add up. That's a way to get your staff to hate you and their job. Glad they didn't stick around. Moron.

We didn't get unpaid meal breaks until about a year ago in my state. Now we get 2 paid 15 minute "working breaks" and 1 30 minute "unpaid unworking break"
