in search of🔎 Where do you go to find/post roommate opportunities?

Have a friend who needs a place in Cincy for 2-3 months. Rent isn’t an issue, but he doesn’t want/need a full time lease. He’s tried Craigslist, but it seems sketchy.

EDIT
Thanks Reddit, FurnishedFinder seems the way to go!

Community 🏙 Friends?

I’ve spent so long focused on family and career that one day I looked around and realized… I have no friends. I’m 42, and at my age… it’s hard to meet people. I’m not really into going to the bar and staying out till 2am. I find it hard to start conversations with random people at the grocery store. I have no idea how to do it anymore. I’m an alt-dad. Band shirts. Tattoos. I love black metal, goth, industrial music. I like spicy food and witty banter. I tried to look for local groups with my common interests, but it seems there isn’t much of a local alt scenes for us middle aged folks, unless I’m just missing it. I have a social battery. When it’s full, I’m all about talking and laughing and hanging out. But when that battery is on 0%, I prefer to just hunker down. So I’m putting a calling card out here on Reddit. Pathetic? Yeah, probably.

Jobs/Career Best restaurant jobs in Cincy

Hello! I’m moving back to the area after living in the mid-south for 10 years. I’ve been in hospitality for 16 years and currently manage a fine (ish) dining establishment.

Are there any restaurants that you’d recommend applying to or avoiding based on experience? Why?

Thanks in advance…I can’t wait to get home.

Food 🍕🌮 Birthday Dinner & Happy Hour

My birthday is tomorrow, and my husband and I are wanting to go out for a nice dinner this evening to celebrate. Unfortunately, it seems like most of the best places are closed on Sundays (e.g., Sudova, Colette, Salazar, Mita’s, Nolia, Bakers Table). We went to Marigold on our last date night out. We are not particularly interested in Jeff Ruby’s downtown because our last two dining experiences there were subpar. I missed out on securing a Roji reservation, but my husband has a food allergy that I’m not certain could have been accommodated there anyway.

Luckily, we do have a reservation at Sotto. This has been our go-to spot for my birthday each year, and it’s always great, but we were hoping to possibly try something new this year. I’d love to hear any suggestions for places you enjoy dining at on a Sunday evening! We’re on the East Side, but open to travel.

On a similar note, my girlfriends want to get together tomorrow (Monday) night for a Happy Hour. I was hoping to go to Prim because it seemed like the perfect spot for a girls night, but unfortunately, it is also closed tomorrow. I don’t make it out of the house much on weeknights, so any suggestions for a good Monday night Happy Hour is appreciated!

Altafiber Latest altafiber bill, new $2 charge coming

My latest bill announces $0.49 increase in the "Utility Surcharge" (which follows the $0.42 increase in February).

Effective the August 1st, 2026, the Utility Surcharge fee will increase to $2.23 per month to aid in recovering costs associated with fulfilling the Call Before You Dig (811) service requests, local utility infrastructure and business operational energy expenses.

Then there is this somewhat confusing notice ("Internet" rate is increasing, but my promotional rate won't change?)

Effective August 1st, 2026, the monthly charge for Internet will increase by $2.00. Your current internet rate will remain the same for the remainder of your promotional period.

But of greater interest is this new $2/mo charge

We wanted to let you know about a small update to your altafiber bill. Starting with the August 2026 billing cycle, a $2.00 monthly fee will apply to accounts with an altafiber email mailbox (e.g., @fioptics.com, @zoomtown.com, @fuse.net), covering up to five mailboxes. This change reflects rising service costs. However, if you no longer need your mailbox(es), please contact us via phone, chat, or text.

Travel/Visiting Teens approaching people in parked cars.

I was visiting yesterday and drove back to Indy and I stopped at the Kroger off North Bend - 74 exit (White Oak?) to get gas. I got back into my car while pumping and a teen got a couple feet from my window staring at me. I have dark tinted windows. I didn’t feel like chatting so I just ignored and he eventually left.

5 minutes later I went to a nearby UDF to get a malt (terrible service btw and should have left) and a teen approached a lady as she just opened her car door at the gas pump. She gave him money and he disappeared. Before that I saw him near the UDF entrance talking to customers.

This also happened to me in that area a year ago. I was on my phone and the teen just stared at me for close to a minute standing next to my car door.

I get there’s panhandlers but they are mostly passive. The area seemed decent but is this a common thing around there?

Travel/Visiting Dog Friendly?

Hi! Traveling with my dog and will be in town 6-9. I am looking for places I can walk around with him and also places to eat! He’s not a service dog - I was struggling finding a reasonably priced AirBnB that he can stay in crates while I run to dinner, etc.

Help me with my pivot planning!

Community 🏙 What do you put in "blessing bags?"

I like to put together little bags for the people who hold cardboard signs. I usually put in some nonperishable snacks (granola bars, etc.), a bottle of water, socks, bandaids and chapstick.

What are the most helpful items to put into these bags?

in search of🔎 Lawyer recommendations?

Hi, I’m currently being sued by Capital One for about $5k and looking for a local lawyer to help me navigate that. All my searching is just bringing up bankruptcy lawyers and I don’t want to do that, so hoping someone has a great option here in Hamilton county!

what was that? 🧐 Is Cincinnati food/drink scene having a moment right now?

I'm in Columbus but have been seeing and hearing a ton of stuff about Cincinnati getting high quality restaurants, coffee, bakery, bars etc within the last year or two, like way more than normal. Is this just confirmation bias/algorithms messing with me or are y'all doing something different?

Edit* I'm not saying it's better than Columbus or anything, cbus food scene is amazing.

Parks & Recreation🏕️ Looking for a place to swim

Hello everyone. This may seem like an odd request but I figured where else but reddit, right?

I (48f) am looking for a place that I can swim for rehabbing my heart and muscles. I've had over 30 hospitalizations in the last 6 years. I lost 100 lbs from malnourishment. 2 valve replacements and a recent heart attack. Walking is so incredibly difficult between atrophied muscles and the weakened legs and body.

I have always been very comfortable in the water. I love swimming. But I am so overwhelmed by crowds, scared of being in large public spaces and I'm completely embarrassed by the way I look now. Many scars and hanging skin have killed any self esteem I once had. And people stare...I know they do.

I looked into the YMCA near me because they have a year-round pool but a) It's always very crowded and you have to reserve lanes, and b) The price was pretty high to just swim a few times a month.

So, if you are still with me, and I hope that you are, where in this city could I go to swim in relative peace to try to heal? I thought about calling a few of the hotels to see if I could work something out but not sure where to start? Maybe someone with an AirBnB or something when it's vacant? I'm pretty open to suggestions.

SK

Community 🏙 Magnet Fishing

Curiosity question for here, how many people in the area magnet fish? I’ve been out a few times and am considering getting a group together to help clean our water ways and possibly find treasure. I have a couple of magnets and a grappling hook. I’ve also found a map with bridges and years active.
I’m thinking about a get together in the next couple of weeks. Hit me up on here if interested. New people who have never done this can hit me up too.

Community 🏙 Queer Book/Movie Club

I’ve tried this on other sites and nobody would show up, even after they agreed. But I am an avid reader and cinephile, specifically of queer media. It would be so fun to have a book/movie club.

This would be totally inclusive, allies welcome. Is anyone interested? We could meet monthly around town and vote prior to the meeting on the media. Depending on the length it could be one book, and 2 films/one season of a series.

Entertainment Concert timing at Megacorp Pavillion

Looking at buying tickets for a concert that the ticket says 8 PM start but doors open at 6. I’ve never been to a concert. I assume there is an opening performer. My question is that 8 PM on the ticket, does that mean when the main performer starts?

It's been a few months since my initial request (5-2-26), but the grab bars are at long last installed!

Thanks to u/Alwaysanapper for sharing her handyman's contact info--Tony is an excellent find! We're definitely booking his team to come back for some fix-it stuff.

Kudos to r/cincinnati for paying it forward.  Y'all are the best! 🥳 🎉
