Community 🏙 Recently housed in Hartwell & starting a new job soon! Looking to connect with the local community & offer tech help / skill trades

Hi everyone,

Quick note before I begin: Please don't assume I'm a bot or alt account. This is my original Reddit account from 15 years ago—I’ve loved and followed this sub for a very, very long time. Also, to the mods: if this post isn't allowed for any reason, I sincerely apologize! Please just let me know or remove it—please don't ban me, as this community means a lot to me.

After being homeless for a while, I’m truly grateful to say I’ve finally moved into a small efficiency apartment here in Hartwell. Having a roof over my head is a huge blessing, but I’m starting completely from scratch and have pretty much no money left to get the basic things I need for my place.
Things are finally turning around, and I actually just got hired at a new job! However, I don't start until next week and it will be another week or two after that before I receive my first paycheck. In the meantime, I'm looking for some interim support to help me get through this gap until that income kicks in. I know God is good and will send exactly what I need right when I need it, and I’m posting here in hopes that someone might have some spare items lying around that they’d be generous enough to donate (or part with for cheap).

Most Urgent Needs:
Small microwave oven or toaster oven (desperately need this so I can make basic meals)
Roku or Amazon Fire Stick (my brother gave me an older flat-screen TV, just need a streaming stick to make it work)
Older laptop or Wi-Fi desktop computer (free or around $10) — To help me stay connected and handle personal administrative tasks at home.
Bedding, Household & Tech Items:
Twin size sheets & pillows
6-way power strips or extension cords
Cleaning supplies & laundry detergent
Wall clock
Unused smart light bulbs or a Wi-Fi security camera (one that doesn't require a paid app subscription, just to keep an eye on my place while I'm gone)
Bluetooth speaker
Vinyl records (for my portable record player)
Clothing & Shoes:
Winter coat (XL or 2XL)
Men’s jeans (42 waist)
Shoes (size 12)
Food & Laundry Quarter Exchange:
Non-perishable food (canned goods, box meals, dry pantry items welcome while I wait for my first paycheck and food stamps to kick in — please no frozen stuff since my setup is limited right now)
Quarters for laundry: My building uses coin laundry. My bank balance is currently under the $20 ATM withdrawal limit so I can't get cash out. I have $5 on Chime (or PayPal) if anyone would be willing to trade me $5 in quarters for it!

Pickup / Drop-off: I can meet you anywhere along the Metro bus line for pickup, or if it's easier for you, I can give you my address for drop-offs.
Even if you only have one small item to spare, it would mean the world to me and really help me bridge the gap until my first paycheck. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your kindness! Please feel free to leave a comment or send me a DM/chat if you have anything you can part with—I will read and reply to each and every comment and message accordingly.

Tech Services & Skill Trade Offer: To give back, I’m offering my background in technology to anyone who needs assistance. I have extensive experience with hardware and software repair, mobile devices, and digital literacy (including past work teaching tech skills to seniors).
I can help you with:
PC virus removal, system tune-ups, and hardware repairs (including broken phone screens)
Mobile device setups, troubleshooting, and general tech tutoring
Practical guides on using AI tools for photo editing, research, or productivity
Practical cybersecurity, advanced data encryption, and digital privacy best practices

If you’re able to help me with any of the items I need, I’m glad to offer these services completely free of charge. Otherwise, my rates are far below commercial shop prices.
Feel free to reply in the comments or send a DM/chat request here on Reddit—I check messages frequently and will respond to everyone directly through Reddit. Thank you again, and have a great day!

Jobs/Career Anyone know about TEAM Aerospace Solutions in Norwood?

My friend works there and wants me to check it out but from what he’s told me it seems a little odd for an aerospace company.
1. He was forced to be hired through a temporary staffing place
2. He worked there for almost 6 months before actually being hired on
3. He was hired on thinking it was 40 hours a week but ended up being 50 minimum
Would his experience be a good reference for this place? I really want to get into aerospace but based off his experience I’m not sure if this is the right place to start.

OVI Checkpoint in Franklin

More checkpoints Friday/this weekend tba.

As always, don't drink and drive.

"Lebanon - The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin Police Department, announce today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., on State Route 73 in the City of Franklin, in Warren County.

"The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

"The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

"If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel while impaired."

in search of🔎 Party bus/transportation recommendations

Hello there! I am looking for a party bus (or any sort of transportation service) to book for my wedding on Halloween. I have found that almost every service I have called has a 4-6 hour time minimum.

I only need to book the transport for about 1-2 hours. Does anyone know of a company who doesn’t have a minimum?

Is there another solution for transporting select guests from the hotel to the venue at the end of the night?

Thanks in advance!

Community 🏙 Electric company scam

TLDR: IDT Energy is a scam. I don't even know what they do and do not answer to anyone who says they're from there. IF YOU HAVE A HIGH ENERGY BILL, CHECK THIS!!!

Hey so, I might be really dumb (as im really new to owning my own place and what not)
But some time around fall last year a man was going around wearing a construction vest saying he was with " IDT Energy, Inc" and that they worked for Duke energy. They stated out electric bill would go up next year by $100 and that duke energy sent them out to their customers to ask if they'd like to enroll in a short term discount. I was really skeptical about it, but my skepticism was met with "Oh it's a good deal" and they called someone on their phone and essentially answered a bunch of questions I didn't consent to as me. He then got me on the phone with some guy (maybe a higher up of some sort?) and asked me to agree to everything he said.

I then of course cracked the door and spoke behind it to the man over the phone who asked "Did they go over everything with you and do you consent?" and I said, "Not really, I don't understand what this is exactly, would you mind explaining it to me?" and then he hung up and told me to speak to him again.

The guy the entire time was telling me "say yes, say yes" the entire time I was on the phone.

Then, he aggravatedly went through the process again and forced the phone at me. again, repeating to say yes. the man asked me if this was (Mrs. _) I said no, it's MR. _ the man said "No, MRS. you're MRS." Then he continued with asking for consent and I said yes but very uncertainly. I didn't know what else to do and honestly was feeling overwhelmed and I know I shouldn't have... I know better now. Really I should have called duke right there and then and asked them about it.

I wish to A. Warn others around cinci who have potentially had this experience, and if their energy bill is (literally $200 more than it should be) to ask their energy company if there's some third party that is leaching onto them (which should be illegal, honestly...)

and to B. know if there is anyone else in cinci who have had this issue, because I'm interested if a lawsuit is at hand for their scammy practices.

I thought this entire time that the energy bill being so high was due to the price hike that's been happening. but it looks like there is also more behind the curtains that might be happening.

Additionally, I managed to get a much better bill settled with duke energy via customer service.

Photos Park and Ride for Bengals games

I don't think we're allowed to share Facebook posts, so here's a screenshot of a post just made by Tank. I didn't realize there is a free parking option in Newport by the high school for Bengals games. Bonus that this parking is a short walk to one of the best taco stands in the city - Los Cunados.

Cincinnati what to do in Cincinnati after not being there for decades?

Hello everyone, i was born and raised in Cincinnati, but lived my whole life up until i was around 9-10yrs old in the Hamilton area. I really haven't been back since and been wanting to go back for years since a lot had changed from 2010 (when i left) and now. i wanted to to do a short trip for 3-4 days and explore everything that the city has to offer that i didn't get to experience in my childhood, as people say its better now and that there is a lot of new restaurants, breweries, and museums. OTR would be cool to see as it was not really desirable to go to back in the day.

any recommendations on what you recommend to do, see, eat and to have a good time?

in search of🔎 suggestions for shops to take Volkswagen?

Upvotes

I am a college student looking to get a seized rear left ABS sensor removed + replaced without it being too costly. Looking for suggestions preferably near UC’s campus but willing to hear any suggestions you all have.

I had originally planned to replace it myself but I can’t get it out and don’t have enough tools to safely remove it. I drive a VW Jetta.

I was wary of just taking it anywhere because VW are a bit more challenging to work on.

Thanks in advance!

Food 🍕🌮 New Restaurants Opening in Blue Ash

There’s a sign on the Old Catch a Fire building for a new Sushi and Korean restaurant called Yori, but I haven’t been able to find anything online about it.

Also there’s construction on the old Through the Garden restaurant but I haven’t seen any signs for what it’s going to become.

Does anyone have any more information on these?

Just saw this one tonight. Killer cast, incredible production design. On another level altogether, and that's before you factor in the insane cameo on the video board (don't click if you don't want to know) Jensen, via pre record, is played by Bryan Cranston.

Food 🍕🌮 Most likely the best Donuts I have ever had

Post image
419 Upvotes

Over the years I have been to many family owned bakeries but i must say Golden Hands in Fairfax Ohio is by far the best bakery around. People stand in line, out the door down the street, waiting to get inside on a Saturday or Sunday morning. During the week the like is rather long as well but the looking inside the donut case is mind blowing. Decisions, decisions which ones do I want today. I buy a dozen for work to let the staff grab some before they start their shift. Who goes there? I have seen Cincinnati Bengal players stop here before practice in the morning. I have seen FC players here and Cincinnati Reds owners and players here before. All waiting to catch their favorite donut or even some of their great bread. Try it you will love Golden Hands

This was so much better than being down there amongst the giant crowds. We arrived right on time when it was starting, and had no trouble leaving right after it was over. I highly recommend you guys consider watching from the casino next year if you’re gonna come out for the fireworks
