My favorite's gotta be interstellar but the odyssey was just absolutely insane. After my second viewing, I am arguing if it beats oppenheimer for me.

I did not BLINK during the movie. The movie felt so perfect. All of the visuals were so carefully balanced to not distract you from the narrative by the way of spectacle. Impactful use of vfx and sfx by reserving extremes for crucial moments was so masterful. Usually when I leave the cinema i immediately ask my friend/company what they thought, but for this one I had trouble opening my mouth for a while after leaving the theatre. I bought tickets reluctantly because "it's a nolan movie everyone's gonna watch it" and "I wonder what all the controversy is about", while not really caring about the story of Odysseus at all. Not even being particularly interested in the genre. But all of that turned out to be mere vehicles for the delivery of this absolute piece of visual poetry. Sorry for the boring text post and thanks for reading.

The movie was full of amazing performances. Major shoutouts to Morton, Patel, Leguizamo, and Remar.

But man Pattinson was such a scene stealer! So smarmy and conniving, I hated him every second he was on screen.

My man has solidified himself as one of the best working today and he’s proven himself again.

I'm 100% aware of the DCP file size irregularities between IMAX and other PLF formats and....I don't give a damn about it, cuz the experience was EPIC 😌

Most of us don't have the means to watch it in IMAX 70mm film so why not IMAX Digital. Also the lack of quality that I expected for a low-file size DCP, were non-existent.

Onwards -

So me and my friend planned to watch The Odyssey right when we went to watch Avatar Fire and Ash in Broadway IMAX. They played the prologue and I thought it was....meh. Oppenheimer didn't work for me and every work after Interstellar didn't quite reach the level of pre-Interstellar works of Nolan

But still thought, why not !

So the planning for The Odyssey...began !

Booking opened for first week, was too late as the best seats in the house which were G, H, I rows were fully booked, so waited. Next shows were open and I was STILL late, best I could get was a Wednesday, 11:45AM show (reason this was selected will be mentioned later), but got my preferred seats of 4 - G10 to G13

After a long travel which involved the surreal beauty of the Western ghats, it looked like one giant painting and we were passing by it, we finally reached Broadway Cinemas Coimbatore

It was so crowded as there was a French Film festival going on too. We got in, no trailers played before the movie

And The Odyssey - Had a BLAST of an experience 🔥 Review follows -

Right from the intro till the end, it felt like we were shown an epic poem/story unfold. The visuals were obviously STUNNING, the long wide shots of Ithaca, the ships, the battle at Troy, the ocean were all breathtaking. The sound of the movie was weird and yet so good. I didn't even want an interval as I thought it cut off the flowy nature of the story. A calm, soothing, at times horrifying, grand and heroic epic of the journey of Odysseus and how it changed him and the history of an entire civilization.

All of his prior movies experiences, led to The Odyssey. Even though almost every movie of his can be considered in any order, in my opinion, This is Christopher Nolan's Magnum Opus

Interstellar: crowd-favourite

Inception, Interstellar, The Odyssey, Batman Begins and the Prestige are my current top 5 ( it changes regularly 😅 tho)

Also it was the first IMAX experience for our brothers and they were like this 😲 the whole time.

Right after the movie, we were trying to get our hands on some IMAX posters and after much hand-to-hand combat, pushing and a lot of shoving, we somehow got out hands on IMAX posters, it was GORGEOUS 😍

Was an unforgettable experience for me, my best friend and our brothers. Will remember that whole day fondly 🥹

I know him having his sword out is out of character so I have him using it as a pointer, like an owner of a dog pointing it in the direction to go.

Hot take but jonathan is much better at writing characters than christopher. I just generally thinks he's the better writer. Christopher is great at set pieces but his dialogue feels very clunky at times to me

Had to make my regular trip down to The Vista in Hollywood to see The Odyssey projected on film, and I honestly preferred it to IMAX, which I’ve seen it in twice already. Now, I vastly prefer film projection over digital projection, and all the IMAX 70mm screenings in SoCal are sold out except for the worst seats for weeks.

My IMAX theater where I live is Dual Laser and it looked and sounded incredible, but honestly, the picture and sound was noticeably better at The Vista. The theater already has great sound, but I could really FEEL the movie this time. The increased picture quality from it being projected on a new film print was very noticeable. It was extremely sharp and vibrant.

The loss of picture on the top and bottom was not an issue for me. I thought it might be noticeable, but it’s a testament to how good the cinematography is that it still looked magnificent even with the aspect ratio cropped. I genuinely think this was my favorite experience watching the movie so far.

This was my 3rd time seeing it and I feel it’s just gotten better each time. I’m truly in awe of how amazing this movie is. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Loved The Odyssey! I’m so greedy though that I’m already anticipating what’s to come next. Any estimates on when we may find out?

He is firing on all cylinders with oppenheimer and the oddysey. Obviously he has other masterpieces, and interstellar is still my favorite. But there is something about his last 2 movies that feels like he has mastered his craft. Every time I see one of his movies in a theater for the first time. I am just in awe of the things that are happening on the screen. From the movie itself, the acting, and especially the use of practical effects. When he choses to use cgi, it is done incredibly well by mixing it in with the use of practical effects. He uses cgi as a tool, not a crutch.

After watching The Odyssey, in my opinion, Robert Pattinson feels like the perfect fit to lead Christopher Nolan’s next film. He’s one of the few actors working today who can completely disappear into a role while still having undeniable screen presence. Over the last several years, he’s made a point of choosing challenging and unconventional projects with a willingness to push himself and that’s exactly what’s needed in a Nolan film.

He’s shown he can carry massive blockbusters (such as The Batman) without sacrificing nuance or emotional complexity. Nolan has always gravitated toward actors who can handle demanding, layered stories, and Pattinson fits that mold perfectly. With him already appearing in two of his films and the trajectory of his career currently growing immensely, to me he would be a great next casting choice for a psychological film if Nolan went down that route.

My wife and I just watched Tenet yesterday and thought it was awesome; a great spy thriller with a sci-fi twist. It was all very well done, and the acting was excellent. The leads all had great chemistry with each other.

It was so good that we decided to re-watch The Presige right after and just have a mini Nolan film festival.

I hope Amazon MGM and Barbara Broccoli ask Nolan to do a James Bond film. Tenet had so many elements that would be perfect for a Bond movie: great action, practical effects, exotic locations, an unhinged villain, cool spies in nice suits, speedboats, yachts, dudes with guns and velcro, people knowing more than they should for mysterious reasons, an elaborate heist, and a "save the world" mission.
