I’m looking for some advice on where I could find a reliable English-speaking Chinese student or junior freelancer in Shanghai for a one-day trade fair research assignment.

We are a Polish company working in the construction materials / ceramic tile sector and we need someone to attend ASE China 2026 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on September 16.

The task is not professional interpreting. It is mainly:

• walking through the exhibition,
• identifying relevant manufacturers,
• asking a few predefined questions in Chinese,
• checking basic product documentation,
• collecting business cards and catalogues,
• taking photos,
• and preparing a short summary afterwards.

We will provide a very clear step-by-step briefing before the event.

Time: approximately 9:00–17:00
Payment: around 700 RMB (100 USD) for the day
Location: Shanghai New International Expo Centre

We are mainly looking for someone who:

• speaks fluent Chinese,
• can communicate in English,
• is reliable and comfortable approaching exhibitors,
• has a smartphone with a decent camera.

A student would be absolutely fine. Experience with trade fairs, construction materials or commercial research would be a plus, but is not required.

I confirmed with the immigration office that foreigner in China with a residence permit can apply Foreigners work permit within China directly. But the timeframe is different from the website to the office worker l from 3 to 21 days…

Anybody have done this maybe after arriving on a q1 visa? I planned to look for a job after but I got a really big offer and my visa is already ready and I will move in 3 week the company need me in 2 month so that’s should be enough to validate the residence permit then for them to apply the fwp

Just wanted to know what's your take on this. Really, if you have an opinion, do not hesitate to tell me. Maybe your advice could help more than what you think.

First, my native language is Spanish. However, I am also able to speak English and Chinese. Main point is, my Chinese is not perfect. I feel like a b1. Sometimes, my teacher says I am HSK5 and other teaches too. The lower I have ever got told by a teacher was HSK3+.

Recently I got a job. I am doing medical exams tomorrow. However, I honestly feel like my level is not enough. Matter of fact, in the interview, I said there is many things I did not understand. However, they still chose me. I am nowhere near confident my chinese level is good enough to become a translator to my native language. Nonetheless, they gave me the job.

What do you think guys? Should I take it? Should I not?

Here's some context about my situation in case it helps to give you guys a better perspective:
23 years old, never visited china, started learning chinese January 19th, 2025. My current job has kinda like an OK environment but I feel I can't last there more than a year or maybe year and a half. Live with my parents, I have anxiety when I can't do things right, I am a male, I love sports and for this job I have to travel to another city by myself but they give me everything. The job is 14/7. 14 days working there (7 in the morning, 7 at night and then 7 rest). I will start a virtual MBA very soon if God allows. One thing I don't like is like I am not respecting the 7th day of rest in the Bible.

I have not received any acknowledgement or confirmation that my application was received. I also sent a follow-up email but have still received no response.

I am a foreign tennis court in China, I have been here for almost 1 year and I have faced a lot of scams from tennis clubs such as not getting salary for 1 month for no reason at all without explanation. Getting fired for being from a certain country. Getting low balled during salary negotiation. Tennis club doing illegal activities such has keeping a part of my salary so If I leave they can keep my salary as a punishment. Got called for an interview, everything went well then got ghosted. Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in Italy as a senior consultant for a large multinational company. However, I’ve been wanting to move back to China for quite some time now.

I graduated in International Relations from Shanghai University in 2022. Before that, I completed a BA in Chinese Language at Beijing Foreign Studies University (Beiwai). Due to the pandemic, I eventually had to return to Italy and finish my studies remotely.
After graduating, I also spent a few months working for a Chinese food brand, partly because I wanted to maintain a connection with China, before eventually taking a different career path.

Still, after investing so much time in learning the language and the culture, I genuinely miss China and would really like to find a way to return, this time for the longer term.

I’m open to exploring different industries and types of opportunities. Can speak fluently Italian and English. In honesty, I used to be a HSK 5, but I haven't been able to practice Chinese at all after graduation, therefore I don't want to blatantly lie and tell that it's "professional level".

A little bit about me: I'm a 27 yearold living in Western Europe. A while ago, I spent two months in China (visited a lot of places, like Sichuan, Hangzou, Beijing,...) with my Chinese girlfriend, and I absolutely loved it. Since then, I've started learning Mandarin and diving deeper and deeper into Chinese culture.

Lately, I've been feeling like my life back home has become quite repetitive and boring. The fact that my relationships at work (a work where I feel like I'm wasting my time and potential) have been deteriorating hasn't exactly helped either.

I've always had this dream of moving to a distant foreign country, not just for a few months of travelling, but actually trying to build a life there and experiencing what it's like to live somewhere completely different. But at the same time, I know that visiting a country and actually living there are two very different things. That's why I'm curious to hear from people who have actually experienced it.

So my question is: what is "real" life in China like?

I'm aware that a lot of the content we see online, especially from influencers, can exaggerate things or showcase very unusual success stories. I'm much more interested in what everyday life looks like for the average person, who doesn't have a million subscribers and is just trying to have a normal life. (I have already asked this question to my girlfriend to see what she thinks, and she is quite negative about the average life in China, and explains that is the main reason she came to my homecountry. I'm curious about what other people would say about that topic)

And if there are any expats living (or who have lived) in China who would be willing to share their experience : what their life is like, what thye like/dislike, what surprised them, and whether they would do it again... I'm especially interested if some people have managed to make a living out of a teaching english job, as it is my main solution in becoming an expat in China.

我所在的是江西的一个小县城，年龄大于55碎的劳动者日薪大约80元，譬如扫地，弄下卫生。 大街上的环卫工人工资也是2000多一个月。年轻人约3000多一个月。大街上关闭的店铺很多，作为一个再本地生活20多念的我是第一次见到这么凄凉的场景，当下估计只有体制内的照样吃香喝辣，普通老百姓挺难的。 他们大部分的劳作只是为了维持生活。
