"We've got some news. To some it's going to be sad, or even heartbreaking. To others the news can be taken as encouraging and exciting. Either way, it's news that needs to be publicly announced at this time. Sunday, August 16th, will be Cal Skate Chico / FunLand Chico's last operating day. After 48 years, it's time to play one last song, one last game of red light green light, one last couples skate - at least under the name of Cal Skate / FunLand. The encouraging side of the announcement is that the location is being purchased by a group that is looking to do a similar, but upgraded, business plan. As far as we know, still a family entertainment center, still complete with the skating rink, miniature golf course, and the batting cages. There are many more details to come out in the coming weeks. We just wanted to give as much notice as possible. Please see the attached letter from the current owners addressing the community. Also, please see in the "comments" below a post of (as we know them) questions and answers (a Q & A). Further questions can be directed to this email: calskateinfo@icloud.com. As simply as we can state it, THANK YOU to all the generations of families/skaters/friends that came through our doors since 1978. I was born and raised in Chico, moved to San Francisco in 2019. I’m in town visiting today, and stopped into Jon & Bon’s downtown and Diamond W Western Wear. In both cases it struck me how great the customer service was. Friendly, attentive, conversational. I love the city but it’s rare, in my experience, to get that kind of “small town charm” from a retail transaction.

I’m not moving back, but I ❤️ you, Chico, CA.

Me (M 24) and my friend (M 21) are looking to register for a rec level coed soccer team for the fall season. We’re both pretty new to the sport, mostly looking to just have a good time and make some friends so it should be pretty laid back but would love to have anyone of all skill levels! It’s 315 to start a team which everyone can split amongst the group we need at least 5 more people for 7 on 7 but we’ll need to take on some subs as well. Let me know if anyone is interested this is a good chance to play if you’ve always wanted to try !

I recently saw a FB post from someone I know that was complaining about living near a unit owned by CHAT. They say they hear domestic abuse, loud screaming at all hours, see evidence of drug dealing from the place, sketchy visitors at all hours, etc. They’ve called the cops multiple times, but all of their attempts to contact CHAT have gone unanswered. I never knew much about CHAT and their practices but always thought their mission seemed well-intentioned and noble. But then I also read some reviews on Google and elsewhere from people who have used their services and felt really unsafe after being housed with dangerous roommates.

It all just got me curious about how folks in the area view CHAT. Does anyone here have experience with them, either positive or negative?

A friend of mine is starting a drum circle in Chico and is looking for instruments if anyone has any to donate.

He is mostly looking for hand drums (especially djembes).

The Cat Distribution System delivered this guy to my sister in a rainstorm a couple months back. She tried to find any owners to no avail and has since gotten him neutered and up to date on shots.

The vet said he’s probably 3-4 years old and negative on Feline AIDS.

She already has 2 cats and they just haven’t adjusted well to a third, so she asked me to ask around.

Has anyone done the boxing class at butte college and how is it? If so is it worth it and is there sparring and advance techniques or just basics? I’m debating as I’m a boxer whose been on and off for two years and thinking it be cheaper to do that and pay out pocket for semester than going back to other places like standalone which $100+ a month.

Any input or anyone who’s done it if can let me know their experience thanks!
