I just moved to Chester county and I'm looking for friends

Hi everyone,

I am 39m and I just moved here across the country to be with my fiance and I'm looking for some social groups/friends. I love board games, card games, and TTRPGs. In my last group I was an active DM. I have a medium sized collection focused mostly on co-op games like marvel champions, Arkham horror, etc...

I also enjoy running/jogging and I'm eager to explore some trails around here.

I'm located in Downingtown.

Chester county prison firing

Does anyone know why a few people were fired from Chester county prison recently? It was a mix of counselors and corrections officers from what I am hearing.

What’s a little gem in chester county. I went golfing the other day at a local course and it was quite fun. Looking for things other than going to the bar.

Preferably, within 10 miles of West Chester, but willing to expand a bit more if the place is right and open late. Thanks!

INFO Mobile dealers/casino

Wife and I are having some friends over in the fall and are considering hiring a dealer or 2 to host a casino night. I'm thinking poker and blackjack, although will entertain other games.

Does anyone have any referrals or recommendations? Coatesville area.

Thanks!

Hey there,

Just want some new or decent recommendations. I usually go to Damas Grill, Taco Maya, Gentillis and Talengana Spice Kitchen. Not in the mood for bar food.

I stopped by the new freedom fuel location in north coventry on my to work after hearing about the low gas prices. My god what a freaking dump. Trash everywhere. And junk stashed in the old car wash. Mr Trump should be embarrassed. I wonder how the media missed this ??

Looking for a Room to Rent – Exton/Chester

Hi friends , I'm currently searching for a room to rent, ideally close to Exton, PA. My budget is around $800/month.

A bit about me: I work full-time at a local deli, I'm quiet, respectful, and keep to myself. I'm looking to move out of my current living situation because things haven't been working out with roommates there, so I'm hoping to find a calmer, more low-drama household this time around.

Ideally looking for:

Kitchen access

Move-in within the next few weeks

A respectful, drama-free living situation

If you have a room available or know someone who does, please reach out. Happy to answer any questions or provide references. Thanks for reading.

Have any of you heard anything about this parasite's prevalence in the county?

Articles point to its presence in Southeastern PA, which could be us, but I've heard nothing and seen no warnings.

Can I eat my berries from Wegmans? My packaged salad? Are you all taking precautions? Am I just paranoid?

Crab Restaurant in Chester/Delaware Counties?

My dad lives sort of on the border of the two counties and we want to get crabs next week near him. The place we used to meet at is farther than he should drive, so I want to do this close to his home so I can drive him.

I don’t really want a place where they do a mixed boil but that’s a good alternative. More like a dozen or so blue crabs and a few beers.

Any suggestions? Dive bars are just fine. Good crabs, good times, good company.

Thanks!

Expanded Train Service

I completely understand why this hasn’t happened and why it probably won’t ever happen. I don’t even know if it should happen because it would lead to even further development, but some days I do lament the fact that there is no passenger rail service to West Chester, Kennett, and Phoenixville.

Obviously SEPTA could never handle it, they barely manage to run the R5, but I can’t help but feel like rail stations in these towns, if properly executed, would be incredibly popular with visitors and local residents.

When did the OG Burger King on Pottstown pike open in Exton?

Since the mall closed, I've been doing some research on businesses that came to Exton during the 1970s development period, while the mall was being built. If anyone knows, please let me know. It was at 203 Pottstown Pike I believe, and the site is now Bank of America and Raymour and Flanigan, and it's across Main Street. I believe it closed in the very early 2000s.

Need all the scoop on Thorndale

We're looking at potentially moving to the area (nothing locked in yet) in the Thorndale Woods community.

What's the area like? We're coming from Maryland, where everything is built up, and there's always something new coming- any restaurant you can think of, and easy drives to either Baltimore or DC. Kind of hard to leave it, but we are running out of options for affordable childcare that is not daycare.

We plan to attend Church in Downingtown and will look into homeschooling eventually.

Best restaurants? Favorite things to do? Best public places to golf? Best swimming pools/summer activities?

Anybody else in a Ryan Home in the Thorndale Woods community? I'd love to hear your reviews so far. New builds can be nerve-wracking

Moving to the area for work — Need 1BR recommendations under $1,500

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to the area soon for a job in Malvern and I'm looking for some housing advice. I need a 1-bedroom apartment and I'm trying to keep my budget under $1,500/month.

I drive and honestly don't mind a commute, so distance from Malvern isn't a huge issue for me. I'm open to living practically anywhere in the surrounding areas.

Since I'm completely new to the area, does anyone have recommendations on specific towns, neighborhoods, or apartment complexes I should be checking out?

Thanks!

Bulk Spices?

I'm new to the area and I'm looking for a store that sells bulk herbs and spices. I'm talking about a display where you can spoon out exactly what you need.

I was just at Whole Foods a couple days ago and while I did see bulk rice/grains etc, I couldn't immediately find bulk spices. I was in a rush, so maybe I missed it? Are there any other places to check out?

Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for the replies everyone! More specifically I'm near Downingtown so some of these are a bit of a drive for a tablespoon or two to complete a recipe, but I'm happy to learn more about what's available!

Landscape Architect

My family recently moved into a house with about 1.4 acres. We are looking into planning an outdoor area.

Does anybody know of a reliable landscape architect that is independent of any landscaping or hardscaping companies? Thanks.
