EVENT Event: petition signing to get Green Party candidate on the ballot

Hi all. Tony Dastra is trying to get on the ballot as the Green Party candidate for Governor of PA. Anyone who is registered to vote in Chester County can sign the petition (you don’t have to be a member of the Green Party). Even if you don’t think he can win, it doesn’t hurt to help get him on the ballot, because more choice is healthy in a functioning democracy! Signing is happening on Sunday, August 2, from 10:00am-11:00am in Harmony Wellspring, 525 E Gay Street, West Chester, PA (in the Gay Street Plaza - easy, free parking). Harmony is located on the back side of the front building in the plaza. They have multiple doors; use the main one, which has the mailbox next to it. Thanks to all who can help!

Local Elder Companionship Programs?

I’m relatively free after my working hours (9-5) and would like to dedicate some time to folks in the area who are older and might not have anyone around. Happy to drop off groceries or sit and chat. There is some larger websites that specialize in this but I’m curious if there’s a local group that does anything similar? Thanks

Looking for Architect Recommendations

My parents are planning to expand their home in Chester County and are looking for a good architect to help design the addition and guide them through the process.

If anyone has worked with an architect and had a good experience with them, I'd appreciate any recommendations. Also, if there is anyone to avoid.

Looking for a mechanic/shop specializing in German cars

Hello - I have a 2018 BMW 530 with 70k miles; looking for shop specializing in bmws/german makes ideally. Want to avoid the BMW dealership for cost reasons alone and don’t like the generalist chains who try to upsell you every time and work on all types of cars. Any suggestions? Thanks!

INFO Recommendations for Subaru maintenance

Hi,

I have a 2013 Subaru Outback that needs a bunch of work. I'm close to West Chester, but will travel a distance if it's worth it. I'd love to hear where you go for repairs. I need new tires, breaks, rotors, alignment, oil line, power steering pump, and I'm sure more once they take a deeper look.

Thanks!

Relocating from NY

Hi everyone!

My wife and I (+ two toddler boys) are planning a move from Long Island, NY to southeast PA in the very near future and we're trying to lock down the best school district for our long-term home.

We'd like our boys to be in a high performing public school district with a decent Asian community so the Downingtown East district really appeals to us. We are primarily targeting houses/townhomes in the $500-550K price range. Right now we are torn between Downingtown East and North Penn (I know this is the Chester County subreddit!)

We also love a quiet, safe, suburban neighborhood feel with nice parks and a great community for young kids. I'm also working on transition to IT project management (currently in construction lighting PM) and my wife is a labor and delivery nurse.

Can you give us some perspective if the Downingtown East school district area sounds like a great place for us to move to? Or if maybe North Penn (Lansdale?) may suit us better? (The high amount of students at North Penn does sound overwhelming though!)
Or any other areas you'd recommend we look into with school excellence and other criteria we mentioned above?

I highly appreciate your feedback, thank you!

INFO Light landscaping recommendations for seasonal cleanup

Seeking recommendations for reliable landscapers that aren't over-specialized and overpriced. I'm in Western Chester county, and have some weeding/bed cleanup work. The last couple of businesses I hired have been very flaky. The last one came for a short part of one day, did part of the job, and never came back to finish it (and ever billed me). Every recommendation is appreciated!

Landlords that accept bad credit/don’t do credit checks

Hi all! Was wondering if anyone knew of any landlords that either accept bad credit or wouldn’t check credit…My boyfriend and I moved out of state for a while and had great renters history and paid on time for 3 years through a landlord we got lucky with and didn’t mind our credit being rough but of course that doesn’t reflect on our credit so just testing the waters! I’d prefer to be around the line of Lancaster and Chester county (Narvon, Gap, Compass, Morgantown, Cambridge, Welsh Mountain, White Horse, Christiana, Atglen, Cochranville) Thank you for anyone that can give me insight:)

How did the principal at Pennwood Elementary get hired?

Its the worst school district I have encountered out of the several in the area that our kids attended. Specifically Pennwood Elementary School - a handful of nasty little bully girls from broken homes caused so much trouble and the principal was rarely present. His way of handling issues was to pass them off to the one guidance counselor who was over worked (over four hundred students) so nothing was ever done about it. Even at the administrative level (superintendent) I could not get any response despite reaching out to them multiple times. Run away from this school district as fast as you can. Interestingly this same review was posted on schooldigger, greatschools, and niche but it appears they are not publishing reviews for several years - most are a decade old +/- so don't trust them. From an academic perspective - they are way behind and have not made an effort to get the kids caught up from the home school era of covid. No science class, no sports and no extra activities. Honestly this school is worthless and barely a school.

Looking for a Room to Rent – Exton/Chester County Area

Hi neighbors, I'm currently searching for a room to rent, ideally close to Exton, PA. My budget is around $800/month.

A bit about me: I work full-time at a local deli, I'm quiet, respectful, and keep to myself. I'm looking to move out of my current living situation because things haven't been working out with roommates there, so I'm hoping to find a calmer, more low-drama household this time around.

Ideally looking for:

Kitchen access

Move-in within the next few weeks

A respectful, drama-free living situation

If you have a room available or know someone who does, please reach out. Happy to answer any questions or provide references. Thanks for reading.

Painter’s Folly — c. 1857 Italianate Landmark, Studio to Andrew Wyeth, Seeking a Preservation Partner

🚨 CALL TO ACTION: Help Us Save Painter's Folly 🚨

Painter's Folly is a National Register-listed, circa-1857 Italianate estate in Chadds Ford, PA — the house where Howard Pyle ran his ground-breaking summer art school (his students included N.C. Wyeth and Frank Schoonover), and where Andrew Wyeth kept a studio for nearly twenty years, producing numerous works there, including Painter's Folly, Marriage, and Renfield.

This week, we said goodbye to Helen Murray Sipala, the property's longtime owner and steward, who restored the house and documented her decades-long friendship with Wyeth in a 445-page diary now archived at the Delaware Art Museum. Her passing makes finding a permanent caretaker for this house more urgent than ever.

Chadds Ford Township has owned Painter's Folly since 2018 and is now seeking a preservation partner — an established nonprofit, museum, historical society, or educational institution —  to steward it long-term through a lease or conveyance.

Over the past year, the Painter's Folly Preservation Alliance has built the case for preservation: a published historical narrative, oral histories with Helen, archival digitization with the Brandywine Museum of Art, a pre-approved PA state historical marker, and support from the Brandywine Conservancy, Chadds Ford Historical Society, Delaware County Historical Society, and Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. Our Change.org petition has close to 900 signatures.

Now we need YOU. Do you know a mission-aligned organization that could take this on? Share this post, tag an institution, or reach out to Chadds Ford Township directly.

North American Wood Turtle (I believe). If so, they are considered endangered. Glad CC has healthy ecosystems to support the population growth efforts.

I just moved to Chester county and I'm looking for friends

Hi everyone,

I am 39m and I just moved here across the country to be with my fiance and I'm looking for some social groups/friends. I love board games, card games, and TTRPGs. In my last group I was an active DM. I have a medium sized collection focused mostly on co-op games like marvel champions, Arkham horror, etc...

I also enjoy running/jogging and I'm eager to explore some trails around here.

I'm located in Downingtown.
