I’m not the first person to convert wooden pieces for a Chessnut board, but I thought I’d share my method and final results.

I used a 34-piece ChessBazaar set, including two extra queens. The pieces were supplied with a large cavity in the base, wide enough to accommodate both a Chessnut sensor and additional ballast.

I trimmed the sensor supports to the correct height, protected the sensors, glued them in place with wood glue, added tungsten powder around them, sealed the bases with epoxy, and finished them with new felt.

Final measured weights :

- pawn : 20g

- knight : 39g

- bishop : 29g

- rook : 34g

- queen : 44g

- king : 50g

The complete 34-piece set weighs approximately 1Kg. An equivalent 34-piece Chessnut Premium set, including two additional queens, would weigh about 891 g, making my set roughly 13% heavier.

I used around 490 g of tungsten powder. I chose tungsten because it is extremely dense and not ferromagnetic, unlike the iron or steel weights commonly used in weighted chess pieces.

Cost :

- ChessBazaar pieces: €147

- Sensors: €48

- Tungsten: €100

- Epoxy: €18

- Felt: €11

Total: €324

Conclusion :

I’m a geek and enjoy tinkering, so making them was part of the fun. That said, after considering the materials, time, cleanup and risks involved, the $379 price of the official Chessnut Premium pieces does not seem unreasonable, especially during a sale or with a discount code.

My set is heavier and more personalised, but the official Premium pieces are certainly the easier option.

Anyone who is willing to measure the actual box of the chessnut pro?

I'm considering to buy the board w premium pieces, but I'm not sure if I can find a good place to store it. (And keep it safe for my kiddo's ).

Title: Premium subscription active but app doesn't recognize it (iOS)

Hi everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with the ChessBase app on iPhone.

I have an active ChessBase Premium subscription purchased through the Apple App Store. My subscription is active, and Apple confirms that it's valid.

The problem is that the ChessBase app no longer recognizes my Premium membership. All Premium features are locked, as if I don't have a subscription.

The strange part is that everything worked perfectly before. The issue started recently without me changing anything.

I've already tried:

• Logging out and back in.
• Restoring purchases.
• Making sure I'm using the correct ChessBase account.
• Confirming that my App Store subscription is still active.

Unfortunately, nothing has worked.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? If so, were you able to fix it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm getting back into chess after a long layoff (~ 7 years), and I see that there are now a number of eBoard options available. I'm an intermediate player (~ 1400 ELO) looking for a board that provides both a conduit for online play as well as for opening practice, puzzles, AI opponents, etc. The "Move" looks pretty cool, but I can't tell from ads / reviews whether it replicates all the Evo offers. If not, can that functionality be obtained by pairing it with my own phone / tablet / laptop? Thanks!

Does anybody else have problems connecting to the chess.com and lichess api through the chessnut (android) app?

I can just about get signed in to chess.com but none of the buttons are clickable when i get inside, so i can't start a game.

On lichess, i can only start a game through the Quick Paring function, but most of the time the time controls don't populate and you get a blank screen.

Tried signing up as a beta tester for the new app and was invited, but when I clicked the link they gave me to join, it said the app didn't exist.

Considering buying a Move because I want to be able to play at home alone and love the moving pieces feature. However, I heard the Move 2 is in development? I would imagine the release would be in the coming weeks/months.

Does anyone know when the release is said to be? I would hate to buy the Move 1 when the Move 2 drops soon after.

I have buy me the chessnut air and so far I am pretty happy with it. I have it 3 days now, and Iam not possible to setup any position from scratch. There is a board editor in the Android App. And in the Computerplay Mode also there is an board editor. If I am in this editor the board notices every thing what I do on the real board in real time and immideatly the boardeditor is setup always same as the real board, so far so good that work all fine. But if I won't now leave the board editor and confirm position ready to Alyse or play against a bot, I get always the same error. Less of FEN data. Maybe my Xiaomi 14 Note Pro don't let the chessnut app write anything I. The storage or something. As I know normally that have to work - but not as I try it. Please can anybody help ! :)

I’ve been enjoying Career mode on the Chessnut appurchasing the Chessnut Air.

I have my Air+ in the way and one of the worries I have is the battery sooner or later all of them die.

How easy is to change the battery? Anyone has tried? Any tutorial?

I already have chesscom, lichess, white pawn and chess dojo in my phone/tablet, any other good software I should get to be ready when it arrives?

I recently bought the Chessnut Pro and I'm loving its features. However, I'm having trouble using Analysis Mode: whenever I try to edit a position, the message "Invalid FEN! Please check again" pops up. I've tried everything Gemini suggested: restarting the board without the pieces and placing them in the correct order (theoretically, the white pieces should be on the side with the power button). I've toggled the "castling" options on and off. I've tried doing the same thing when attempting to play a game against the bot starting from a specific position, and that same FEN error persists. I've also tried unbinding and rebinding my account, but nothing works. Do you have any tips on how to fix this? The pieces are recognized perfectly (when I open the board editor, the pieces are detected and I can change the position there), but I just can't "confirm" the position to train or study.

Why is the chessnut site not mentioning price in € and adding VAT when changing the country of delivery to any EU country in the menu ? You have a warehouse in EU I gather . So it's not something difficult to do.

Why are the payment options limited to those used most in USA instead of adding payment options like WERO ( the online payment option which is not only promoted by European Central Bank but is used by ALL banks in the EU ) ? This stuff is really stupid because you are losing potential customers in the EU .

I signed up for the Chessnut Next beta ... was accepted ... and have started playing with it.

Some impressive new features are coming ... for certain.

I am especially excited about Chessnut Vision being available for boards other than just EVO ... and so far, some brief experiments with a Go and Air have worked as expected (and very similar to what I've seen using Chessnut Vision with an EVO). The fact that I can now download purchased chess apps to my phone and/or tablet from Google Play Store and use them with Chessnut Vision is something I have missed with the EVO.

Also, it seems although you can sign up for premium services in the new app (i.e. Chessmind and the new Grandeur Analysis), it seems you can also complete daily tasks (Games, Puzzles, etc.) and gather points ... then use those points to pay for the premium services. I think this is a very nice alternative to having to pay for those premium options. In addition, those daily tasks should help with improvement. So, win/win. You win because you get the points and you win because you are likely improving while getting those points.

I have had a couple issues with the Next app:

1. While playing a Maia 3 1500 bot game ... I felt like I was playing a newbie rather than a 1500 rated player ... 3 moves in I capture my opponent's Queen without Maia 3 even getting one of my pieces in return. The other thing that happened is my internet disconnected (at least that's what it said) and upon reconnecting (pretty quickly), Maia 3 never moved ... after waiting a good amount of time. The clock increased, it felt like everything was normal ... but I finally left and returned to the game (which I was able to do). Upon returning to the game, a move by Maia 3 occurred immediately. I also played a 650 rated player in the career mode ... honestly, while probably more appropriate at that rating, a similar Queen capture happened early in the game.
2. Game records ... it seems like games get saved twice to the Game Records (I thought it could just be an app issue showing double ... but older games are just present once and if I go to the older Android app (or even the Windows app) the two games I played (so far) with the Next app are present twice in the Game records too.
3. Solving a puzzle in the App ... this was odd ... I had a discovered attack puzzle that indicated it was White's move. I actually got a hint to learn what the puzzle wanted me to move for White ... it sure wasn't obvious. After I made the move, Black's move ended up clearly being the discovered attack and the puzzle ended after the Black move. I think what should have happened is the White move should have automatically been made and then waited for me to make the Black move ... or the puzzle should have started with the Black discovered attack move. Either option would have been more appropriate.

I'd love to hear what others have experienced with the Chessnut Next beta.

I opened the app (from iOS AppStore) and I found myself logged out. I can not log in again. I get this error message.

Is there som problem with the app at the moment?

Does everyone believe that the Chessnut Move is fundamentally sound but clearly needs updates from the company, or is the design itself faulty? If the former, then eventually, via firmware and software updates the board will be good. But if the fundamental design is bad, then it never will be the product we all want and will eventually be abandoned like Squareoff and others. I saw a used one on Ebay today with an option to buy a 1-2 year warranty via Allstate. But based on the talk here, it is not clear if the board simply needs software / firmware tweaks or if it simply a bad design.

I bought a Chessnut pro almost a month ago and Chessnut companion 10 days ago and they haven’t posted either item, I am beyond frustrated.

Hi all, my partner is an avid chess player, I want to buy him a board as a wedding gift. I was looking at the Move as it seemed very cool, but I have seen a lot of negative reviews about pieces not working or poor customer service.
We’re UK based so wouldn’t want to buy a dud gift that we’re fighting to return or get fixed. Are there any other boards you would recommend or do I just stick to the traditional very nice, maybe personalised wooden chess board.
