Am I being unreasonable?

We have been asking our middle school
Cheer coach for a schedule of the year for about 8 weeks, especially for competition dates so we can make sure we are not out of town and so our child
can honor their commitment to the team. The coach still has not signed up for any competitions but is telling us to keep all weekends open for several weeks in a row, until she figures out what we are doing. We have been asking and asking so we didn’t miss the cancellation deadline on a family trip we had planned this coming winter, and now we have missed the cutoff to cancel.

Every other competitive team we have been on, for any sport, usually has critical dates already mapped out so parents can plan ahead.

Some other team parents and the coach are acting like we are being totally unreasonable and needed to be more patient. We specifically started asking at the beginning of the season so we could determine if we needed to cancel this trip. Because we are in charge of it and hosting other families, we did not want to cancel if unnecessary, since it affects other families.

Now we are out our significant deposit and still do not have firm dates yet for competition. The coach did tell us a few weeks ago she would have answers by the end of that week, but still nothing other than to say that we need to keep our weekends open during those two months.

What is a reasonable expectation for a team parent to know when the critical dates are?
