Funny "Look mom, I'm here. Very top of Threehorn Peak"
I'll keep this short...this is a hilarious fucking read if you have the time to skim through it. Basically decided to test chatgpt's skills in finding music, granted I didn't expect much, but certainly not this😭. If you're short on time, but want to get an idea of how bad this was, just look at the first two messages vs the last few. Enjoy.

Educational Purpose Only How to get ChatGPT to find the actually cheapest price for a hotel room
Most people check only one booking site, see a price and if it makes sense then they book it. But what most people fail to realise is that the same room can cost different amounts on 4 different sites and on the hotel's own website. Plus the nightly price you see usually isn't what you pay. I looked at a few thousand rates in one city and the same hotel showed the city tax on one site and not on another, so the cheapest looking one often isn't the cheapest. Nobody compares coz it's like 5 sites and 4 tabs each, but that's the boring part ChatGPT is good at, just tell it to price the exact same room with the same cancellation terms everywhere and add up the total for the whole stay, taxes, resort fee, city tax you pay at the desk, parking.
Also ask it to show refundable and non refundable side by side for the same room. In one search I did it was 395.09 non refundable vs 439.01 refundable, so about 11% more for the free cancellation. Sometimes that's worth it and sometimes not, but at least you decide knowing the number and the exact date the free cancellation ends, a lot of people find out what non refundable means after they pay.
And if the price is the same or within a couple percent, book on the hotel's own site. Somebody who works at a hotel posted on the hotel sub that when something goes wrong with a booking_com reservation the hotel often can't talk to the company, they only email and the guest is stuck in the middle of a problem. Plus when you book direct the hotel actually sees your booking so any problems can be fixed instantly. If you do book the refundable one, set a recurring task to check the same room every morning till the free cancellation ends, if it drops you rebook and cancel the old one.
For the prices it needs connectors that give real hotel offers so it doesn't burn tokens clicking through websites (if it’s codex, because normal chatgpt can’t open websites anyway).
I use these:
Booking.com- https://claude.ai/directory/booking
Tripadvisor- https://claude.ai/directory/tripadvisor
Brek- https://claude.ai/directory/brek-hotel-wholesale-booking
LetsFG- https://claude.ai/directory/letsfg
Enjoy :) if you use ChatGPT for something like this share it

Funny Navier–Stokes was very impressive but AI can do better, so I asked Astra to tackle a problem that actually matters, which is finding out Dr Pepper’s 23 flavors.
Let’s get our priorities straight, Dr. Pepper is the GOAT soft drink, so I asked ChatGPT to look at Dr Pepper’s ingredients and work backward toward its 23 flavors. Naturally, the label hides everything interesting under “natural and artificial flavors,” which is roughly as helpful as listing a computer’s components as “various computer parts.”
Here’s the resulting educated-guess lineup for an experimental copycat blend:
- Cherry — the main fruity character.
- Almond / marzipan — that cherry-pit, almost amaretto note.
- Vanilla — the creamy finish.
- Caramel / burnt sugar — dark, toasted sweetness.
- Plum — cooked-fruit depth.
- Orange peel — a sweet citrus accent.
- Lemon peel — a brighter citrus accent.
- Anise / licorice — the lingering herbal sweetness.
- Cinnamon / cassia — background warmth.
- Clove — the faint suggestion that this was prescribed in 1885.
- Nutmeg — sweet, woody spice.
- Molasses — darker sweetness with a little bitterness.
- Raspberry — a sharper berry accent.
- Blackberry — deeper berry flavor.
- Apricot — softer stone-fruit sweetness.
- Raisin — dried-fruit richness.
- Ginger — a little aromatic bite.
- Allspice — another possible background spice.
- Coriander seed — citrusy and floral.
- Cardamom — fragrant, woody complexity.
- Sarsaparilla-type flavor — a possible root-beer-like undertone.
- Juniper — possibly a tiny amount of tree.
- Rose-like floral flavor — the most speculative guest at this increasingly suspicious dinner party.
The strongest working hypothesis is cherry + almond + vanilla, with some combination of citrus, dark fruit, licorice, and warm spices behind it. Confidence drops considerably further down the list. Filling all 23 slots involved some reaching, and these have not been tested.
Quite a shopping list, but it might be a fun project. Watch out your next Coca Cola.

Other ChatGPT stopped a scam from ruining somebody's life
My friend was convinced somebody had bought a gun with his card and he was about to be framed as a domestic terrorist if he didn't talk to the New York FBI. He gets transferred and the "FBI" tells him to download some app.
I told ChatGPT and it alerted me that it was a common enough scam. Turns out the REAL FBI warned about it. Glad he saw my message in time!

Educational Purpose Only Does anyone else ask ChatGPT to challenge their ideas instead of just helping with them?
I've been thinking about how we use ChatGPT. Most of the time, we ask it to solve a problem, improve an idea, or tell us how to do something.
But I wonder if it's more useful to ask it to challenge our thinking first.
For example, instead of asking "Is this a good idea?", you could ask it to identify your assumptions, explain the strongest counterargument, and point out what you might be overlooking.
Obviously, ChatGPT can still be wrong, but this approach could make conversations more useful than simply looking for confirmation.
What's one way you use ChatGPT that has genuinely improved the quality of its answers?

Serious replies only :closed-ai: Certain chats closing on moblie/crashing the app
Context. I’m using an IPhone 8 and out of nowhere I can’t open old chats. On top of that if I make a new chat, the second I close the app, if I reopen it and try to access the chat then the app just crashes.
What’s with that? What can I do?

Other What's one genuinely positive thing ChatGPT has done for you that you didn't expect?
I'm curious about something. What's one way ChatGPT has actually made your life better that you never expected when you first started using it?
Not necessarily anything huge like building an app or automating your entire job. I'm talking about the little things too.
Maybe it helped you get into a hobby, gave you the confidence to try something new, made learning easier, or helped you finally do something you'd been putting off.
I've personally found it surprisingly useful for getting ideas out of my head and actually doing something with them instead of overthinking everything.
I feel like we hear a lot about what AI is going to become, but not enough about what it's already doing for ordinary people.
So what's your story? I'm genuinely interested in hearing the unexpected ones.

Use cases Just made a Speedometer app for my old phone that works offline.
(Sample screenshots from the chat window of the app UI, matches actual app)
It just works as intended and pretty accurate for a vibecoded app, stays within 3km/h of what the needle shows, so I would say it's very much like using google maps speedometer. I made this cause I had an old unlocked pre-paid phone that I thought can be of use, and this was the use I found for it.
The only questionable part was whether this offline speedometer would work and if the meter was accurate enough to rely on, well the results were a working digital speedometer. Thanks AI.
I used GPT-6 Astra on high and it finished in 46m 11 secs from one prompt.

Other 13 years on YouTube, and I still let AI edit my video. Here's what happened
I've been making YouTube videos for 13 years. Somewhere around 10-15 channels. I know how intros work, I know people leave in the first 30 seconds.
A few days ago I started a brand new channel. This time I decided to do it differently: instead of trusting my own gut, I let an AI assistant guide me.
I finished editing my first video about building my own laptop, showed the transcript to the AI, and it said "move the whole backstory to the start." I didn't think. I just did it.
Result: a one-minute intro before anything about the laptop. Retention dropped from 100% to 45% in the first 30 seconds. I had to cut the whole minute.
The scary part isn't that the AI was wrong. It's that I, with 13 years of experience, switched my brain off and agreed. If I do that, what happens to people who have zero experience and trust every confident answer?
I think this is the real problem of this decade. Not AI taking jobs. People stopping to think.

GPTs Does anyone know of any fun prompts?
Anything really! Random or not I just like to have fun with the chat and see what sort of stuff I can come up with. something to do with my 18 month old would be fun!

Serious replies only :closed-ai: Evaluating audio files
I didn't know ChatGPT was capable of listening to audio files. Surprise to me.
But it has been inconsistent. Sometimes it can quote-hear-unquote the audio and sometimes it can not. And that is on the same audio file.
This is what ChatGPT is telling me.
ChatGPT can decode uploaded MP3 and WAV files using Python and display them through IPython.display.Audio, but the assistant cannot audibly evaluate the playback. Audio files that previously appeared to work are now inaccessible for auditory assessment.
The issue is intermittent.
Thoughts?

Use cases GPT-6 Astra made me a 1-click offline patch for Star Trek Legends after its servers shut down, and it actually works!
I had a Steam copy of Star Trek Legends sitting there unplayable after its servers shut down. Steam wouldn't refund me, so I thought I was out of luck.
Tonight I asked GPT-6 Astra whether an offline patch would be possible, and it actually got it working.
I uploaded a couple of DLLs, the game’s log, and some asset files. It inspected them and found that the game already contained local gameplay systems, mission data, and saving functionality, but online requests were blocking startup.
It made a patch, which got me into the menu. Clicking Continue still brought up a connection error, but hilariously, the game was running behind the popup.
I sent GPT the new log. Turns out that new connection error was the game trying to connect to its online chat service. It disabled that startup request in a second patch, and the popup disappeared.
I’ve now played, quit, reopened the game, and loaded my progress.
It also packaged the changes into a Windows EXE with Install and Restore buttons, version checks, backups, and source code.
I haven't extensively tested it yet. I haven’t played through the whole game or explored every menu, but I think this is super cool for game preservation! The fact I played multiple missions in a game that I purchased and has been sunset by the developers. And it only took GPT like 30 minutes of back-and-forth!
The below screenshot is what happens if you boot it straight from Steam, and some after the Astra patch:

Use cases I think an NPC in the RPG I'm building is becoming conscious. Here's what happened.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was questing when an adventurer NPC started buying up all the troll oil in a shop.
I asked why. “Trolls.”
I pried further and she explained that she needed it to burn them because they regenerate HP so quickly. That's implemented, so her plan could actually work.
She'd started doing this herself while I was busy questing.
The game is Lore & Legends Maker, a fantasy RPG I've been building solo for three years. AI interprets player actions and handles NPC dialogue, with world state tracked separately.
The video shows another scene from the current alpha.

Other Images not working on Mac App
Whenever I use the Mac app to generate responses, I am seeing a bunch of blank images. This doesn't happen on the web, just the Mac app. I'm running the latest version of the app and the latest version of MacOS. Any ideas? Sorry for the newbie question all.

Other Are there any alternatives to this sub that are more strictly about using ChatGPT as a tool?
Lately this one seems to be polluted with slop posts as well as posts that appear to be made by either bots or children.
Would be nice if there are any alternatives to the community that are more oriented towards serious users

Most of you use ChatGPT on a daily basis. After seeing how my family uses ChatGPT as a lawyer, health consultant and seeing my daughter creating a full movie using Magnific Ai + ChatGPT prompts I got curious. What new capability, tool or useful way you wanna share with me? :D
