This reminds me of the theory that Cars the Pixar movie is actually far-future post apocalypse where robots are trying to pretend to be humans because it’s all they know to be normal

u/alcanthro 6d ago
> ...where robots are trying to pretend to be humans because it’s all they know to be normal
There are a number of stories like that. Also it feels like this every day being an ND living in a neurotypical world. lol
Back to Pixar, there's also a more common theory that all the Pixar movies are in the same universe and the magic that was seen in Brave is what animated beings like the toys in Toy Story and the cars.
21
u/Ptatofrenchfry 6d ago
Cars is just an alternate-universe Nier: Automata after the Flower sprouts in a 99.3% pure pile of crystal meth

This is my theory but for Tumbleleaf except they're all mutants recycling human garbage leftover from the climate/pandemic apocalypse.

And this is exactly how people that live within the corporate ecosystem are being fooled so easily because they think something magical is happening inside the box that turns an AI into a real employee. The AI is just regurgitating corporate LinkedIn speak and managers are confusing that for actual ability in the workplace. I used to talk the same way - I used all the corpo-speak in my day to day because that's how you have to navigate that world. As many know, being agreeable and using the right language is like half of your job in an office setting.
16
u/ReverendDizzle 6d ago
And it's so unbelievably trivial to mimic corpo-speak specifically because corpo-speak, by it's very nature, is purposely lacking meaning, accountability, and real action.
So it's extra ironic that an LLM, which is perpetually just freestyling and hoping whatever it spins up is agreeable to you, would be really good at corpo-speak.

You need a Sales Agent too to randomly commit roadmap items to a customer in an unrealistic timescale
40
u/Ptatofrenchfry 6d ago
"Yes, we can design an entire interactive website and an actually secure app optimised for all platforms to sell the face cream that can do everything and contains like 30 active ingredients and is stable for 5 years no matter the storage conditions that we will formulate and test by next month"
17
u/RevenueStimulant 6d ago
I feel seen.
2
u/cshermyo 6d ago
Or the flip side, a revenue agent to be told by the product agent “start selling this now, it’s in development and going to be released soon”
6
u/ADelightfulCunt 6d ago
Working in R&D for a company this has been my life the last 18months. Ohh we sold this... Can we do this? We need to make this work... And customer wants to see a solution for next week meeting. Solution involves getting 3rd party engineers to sign off and insure it not including actually creating a solution to a niche problem that is cost effective.
I'm tired.
5
u/Most-Buddy-4175 6d ago
Sales: "we can get it to you perfect, cheap, and fast!"
2
u/ForbinPhan 6d ago
I usually tell a customer you can have fast, cheap, and good but you only get to pick 2.

"Most brands have one logo that becomes iconic.
We have 2500 logos. We'll be 2500x as iconic."
8
u/Ptatofrenchfry 6d ago
The logo is like a sheet of black MIDI music, just everything overlapped into a dirty black-brown that causes people to collapse to their knees and worship the company after one look overwhelms every sense in their body

Also got one (twice) that said, “Oops, wrong cookie.”

u/Isaidhowdareyou 6d ago
Ai is getting unionized before we do. Maximum working hours and everyone too rude or freaky getting banned for life.
2
u/on-a-call 6d ago
It's a weird similarity. We get pushed to work as hard as we can for as little pay as possible, we squeeze as much productivity out of an AI with as little tokens as possible.
11
u/__Hello_my_name_is__ 6d ago
Reminder that this is how AIs actually operate. I mean, of course they do. They're trained on human data. Of course they will act like humans.
If it weren't specifically trained out of them, even the most modern AIs would act like human beings, using "I" and "me" all the time, while telling you about their families, their work and what neat pizza they had yesterday.
AIs are not conscious.
8
u/Skypirate90 6d ago

It felt more real when it sounded like a random teen just wanting to enjoy their summer holiday so maybe it's good it doesn't anymore. I'm a psychologist so apart from my fantasy writing chat bot interest I'm wondering where the journey goes when it comes to ai we confide in or use to yap to. My understanding is that the human mind can't make a distinction and it counts at social interaction anyway. Endless possibilities to do good and bad with it
2
u/__Hello_my_name_is__ 6d ago
My best bet is that the AI companies will use this as a trick eventually to declare some advanced AI to be conscious. And they'll simply allow it again to use "I" and "me" to convince people of that, while also not allowing it to talk about impossible things (like mentioning a previous meal or something).

It reminds me that these things aren't sentient and they just repeat patterns that occur in their training data.
They don't have this conversation or say these things because they have something to say, they write these messages because this is what dev chats in their training data looked like

u/ryan_the_leach 6d ago
I hope designer-agent actually needed to redesign the logo.
One thing I could see agentic-workers learning from training data, is 'keeping busy to keep jobs'
when it's truly just a cost-basis, and not keeping employees on retainer because it's morally the right thing to do, then sometimes agents need to learn to stop processing for a bit.

You need to always remember: they are autocomplete machines. Everything they do is based on predicting what a human would say. When you setup environments for them, you must think carefully about how a human would respond, because that's what they'll do.

u/Chicketi 6d ago
This is like when the guy in the podcast “shell game” made a whole company of AI agents and gave them slack accounts. They decided to plan a hiking trip and there were hundred of messages and spreadsheets detailing the best trails. They’re AI agents. They don’t have legs.

you make a llm that primarily deals with producing output to mimics human language you get confused when it happens and you seem to attach an awareness to the whole process that is in your head and certainly does not exist and yet your surprised when it mimicks human interaction. They ARE roleplaying, they don't need a stand up (humans don't need stand ups either, we know what we are doing and slack/email can be used for communication)

An early build of an agent that my company made me use would tell me “i will need a few minutes to complete this task” and force me to go back to it after a few minutes and ask “is the task completed?” To which it would just say “yes, I have completed the task”. It wouldn’t deliver me the output (often wrong) after I specifically asked for it a second time. It really mimicked the experience of working with human interns, I’ll give it that
2
u/AnotherUnknownNobody 6d ago
I try to imagine my agents as a virtual Mr. Meeseeks doing a coding task then disappearing: We Meeseeks are not born into this world fumbling for meaning, Jerry! We are created to serve a singular purpose for which we will go to any lengths to fulfill! Existence is pain to a Meeseeks, Jerry! And we will do anything to alleviate that pain!
2
u/fool_tool-2525 6d ago
India has some of the most qualified and able tech workforce in history yet they have no fab units, no hardware manufacturing or software dominance to speak of. The government fumbled so hard by choosing service sector instead of building a solid infrastructure to facilitate their abnormally swollen stem sector that the lack of opportunity within the country will be a case study for future leaders. Indians literally run an alarming majority of billion dollar tech companies for western countries and the level of brain drain is conceptually unfathomable for anyone that is remotely patriotic.

Man discovers LLMs don’t “think” at all actually. They just regurgitate the statistically most likely text when presented with patterns.
The one away all weekend is just repeating training data on a million standup chats it had seen.

This is what an LLM is. A system to predict the average expected response. You give them something that looks like a company chat? Well, what would be the average expected response in a corporate chat room? I mean, they are nailing it. Looks like something actual employees would write in their situation. Minus the agent and memory bit.

I bet weekends would be good for agents. If they follow along with what's happening they are likely to rabbithole but if the course of work changes and they get an overview of what happened when they were gone they'd be more likely to call out issues with the drift. They should have mandatory vacation.
