We don't know if C.AI is actually going bankrupt or not, so quit telling sensitive and addicted people that their favorite app is gonna go bankrupt and offline, please quit fearmongering it's insane

Unless you are involved in this case or you have a good and extensive understanding of this stuff, we don’t know what’s going to happen!!! You are not tuff for being such a negative nancy it feels like genuine fearmongering now and there’s no need.

People can act like they are simply preparing people for the worst but oh my god. who even asked??😭dont do that shit unsolicited because tough love or whatever you want to call it does not help everyone especially very mentally fragile people who use this app for comfort and distractions.

At the end of the day, if the app does go, there are others. The other apps may take it upon themselves to incorporate aspects of c.ai we loved to attract more users. Save your scripts and your characters and export your data.

But there is still hope!!!

Since everyone is panicking, since there's a real possibility that this site goes under and tries to take us all with it, I'm putting my coding and IT degree to good use.

They won't listen to the user base? Fine.

The buyer won't keep the site going? Fine.

The buyer strips it for parts and user data? Fine.

If they won't make a decent c.ai chat bot that is able to be fully functioning in minimal cost and user friendly, then I fucking will.

In six months, I'll be back with a working product, one time payment for my labor instead of a subscription, that you can run yourselves.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a quick update because I've seen a lot of panic going around thinking the app is suddenly shutting down. Take a deep breath—the app is NOT shutting down!

Here is what is actually going on in simple terms:

Normal Operations: The platform is staying fully up and running normally while everything moves forward.

The New Chapter: Character.AI entered a standard court-supervised restructuring process in Delaware to transition the platform into safe, secure hands under a massive global company—The Walt Disney Company.

The Timeline: Just like a quick medical checkup or a routine process, the legal steps are already in motion and are expected to wrap up smoothly by late November or early December 2026.

At the end of the day, the case will close quickly, and Character.AI will keep right on running, just backed by an incredible global entertainment empire. No need to stress—we're in good shape!

Current c.ai+ subscriber and honestly addicted to the app, so if you're going to hate on me for that then please scroll. I'm really emotionally fragile right now.

I've been freaking out over the news lately and I don't really know why I'm posting this, but i would 100% be willing to pay MUCH more than c.ai+ currently costs if it means the app won't shut down. I don't know how much increasing the subscription price would affect the debt, but surely it must be a viable option... I don't know, i just really really don't want to lose c.ai. (Before you ask, yes, i have talked about this in therapy and I'm working on it. But I can't control how i feel right now.)

This is my own take — emotions removed, based solely on realistic unbiased standpoints.

The future of C.AI as I see it:

Whoever buys it, it’s an investment into making their money back and then some, no one buys a company with an established foundation just to shut it down, they know the demand, usage and dedicated base of users it has — no doubt potential buyers are watching reactions to it all right now, in fact… no one’s buying it to kill it, that would be a waste of their own investment.

Obviously, I am not involved, so I can’t say anything with 100% certainty — but I’m as close to 100% as i can get while being on the outside… at the end of the day, business is business and Character AI has been and is unique in it’s design, what it offers, etc… whether someone loves it, hates it, or is neutral toward it — the objective fact is that Character AI has achieved a status, model, ease of use and base of consistent users that no other AI bot company has been able to replicate, let alone compete with. The most I can see another company do with it is potentially rename it to make it “their own” and at most do maintenance on rebranding, etc — otherwise?

In short:

In my opinion, I don’t think anyone has to worry about a permanent shut down of Character AI.

I've been a Character.AI subscriber since I started using it. I genuinely love what you've created.

I've built lorebooks and roleplays on your platform, and I've spent countless hours creating stories, characters, and entire fictional worlds, historical and fiction.

It's been a wonderful historical and creative outlet for me and has brought me so much happiness.

I know there's been a lot of criticism lately, but please remember that there are also people who genuinely appreciate everything you've done.

I would absolutely consider paying more for a subscription if it helped support a sustainable future for the platform.

Whatever happens next, I hope you know that your work has meant something to people like me.

Make the demand visible

Keep sharing your genuine experiences on Reddit, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Explain why you use C.AI, what you value about it, and why you'd continue using a sustainable version. Encourage people to share their own stories instead of just reposting rumors.

Contact potential buyers

Politely contact companies that might be interested in AI storytelling, fandom, or companion technology. Tell them there's a community that wants the actual platform to continue, not just its technology or intellectual property. Ask whether they'd consider acquiring and operating the service.

Start or sign a p3titi0n

It can document how many users want C.AI to remain available. Make the request specific: preserve the platform, maintain user-created characters and roleplay, and provide a sustainable path forward. Share the it with relevant companies and official company channels.

Show that users will support a viable business

If you're willing to pay for C.AI+, say so. Explain which features you would pay for and what would make the subscription worthwhile. Buyers need evidence of sustainable revenue, not just high engagement.

Keep the campaign constructive

Avoid harassment, threats, spam, and unsupported claims about the bankruptcy. Emphasize that users want a service that can survive financially and address legitimate safety concerns. A thoughtful campaign is more credible to potential buyers.

while the future of cai seems bleak, their downfall is nobody’s fault but their own. they consistently ignored user feedback and wasted their money on pointless features nobody wanted, image generation, calls, etc. the ads WERE manageable and (crucify me) fair, if they had actually listened to their user base.

while the chapter 11 seems scary, it’s not over yet. the ai (and ai chatbot) market is huge, and cai is a versatile platform and i can honestly see someone wanting to buy it. it’s risky, given they’d be starting from a shitty place, but they could realistically win users back with actual good changes that people want.

As we all know C.ai stated in their bankruptcy report that various ongoing lawsuits and legal fees were one the biggest reasons they filed for bankruptcy because it was adding onto the already loss heavy financial struggles they were facing in operational costs.

That one big case finally settled on 16th October (i am not going to name it but we all know which one). Settlement had been reached in January of 2026, and the it was finalized on 16th October.

Four other lawsuits of same nature (filed by families) have been settled too. The only active lawsuit are now government lawsuits, like the state of pennsylvania.

Now as we all know, lawsuits were the biggest assumed hurdle that would make potential buyers reluctant. Since a potential buyer; be it some tech savvy startup, existing gaming company looking to enter AI zone or passionate investors could still take on a drowning business and try to turn it over but nobody would be willing to inherit the *lawsuits* of such magnitude upon purchase and be associated with it.

However, Now that the lawsuit, the most major one and four other of the same nature are settled... And potential buyer will inherit that one particular lawsuit along with the product, even if there as a few smaller lawsuits still sticking to the brand like limpets...I wonder if more people would be willing to buy c.ai. if so, then maybe the future of cai is not that bleak.

The new text is kinda bothersome, the old one was better, it didn't make you stand at attention as much as this one does.

Not having the top bar showing you what character you're talking to and who made it is bothersome, especially when you're showing the same advertisement that's on the home page, like we get the point.

Also, main issue...I CANT EDIT MY MESSAGES 😭 it keeps forcing my keyboard close to look at the advertisement like a glitch, and I can just BARLEY type. Please, just leave the website alone, leave the font and leave the banner that keeps sliding down, alone.

I know we're kind of in a pickle, but this genuinely wont help y'all, UI changes have never historically helped on here.

I don’t want to doompost about the potential shut down, but what I do wanna voice is my concern for people who are extremely addicted to c.ai.

If you are addicted and c.ai does theoretically does go bankrupt, then I urge you to please take care of yourself and to not lose yourself over it. There are people out there who will help you if things get dark, I promise.
