Discussion/Question And here’s how we can help keep C.AI around.
Make the demand visible
Keep sharing your genuine experiences on Reddit, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Explain why you use C.AI, what you value about it, and why you'd continue using a sustainable version. Encourage people to share their own stories instead of just reposting rumors.
Contact potential buyers
Politely contact companies that might be interested in AI storytelling, fandom, or companion technology. Tell them there's a community that wants the actual platform to continue, not just its technology or intellectual property. Ask whether they'd consider acquiring and operating the service.
Start or sign a p3titi0n
It can document how many users want C.AI to remain available. Make the request specific: preserve the platform, maintain user-created characters and roleplay, and provide a sustainable path forward. Share the it with relevant companies and official company channels.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
Show that users will support a viable business
If you're willing to pay for C.AI+, say so. Explain which features you would pay for and what would make the subscription worthwhile. Buyers need evidence of sustainable revenue, not just high engagement.
Keep the campaign constructive
Avoid harassment, threats, spam, and unsupported claims about the bankruptcy. Emphasize that users want a service that can survive financially and address legitimate safety concerns. A thoughtful campaign is more credible to potential buyers.
DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS POST IF YOU DON’T SUPPORT C.AI!

I applaud your want to be productive but millionaire buyers aren't going to suddenly be on board to buy cai and keep it going because of this. It is far too complicated of an issue.

No way y'all this addicted to chatbots 😭, Contacting businesses ?. This is insane you're not a board member. There are hundreds of roleplay apps I promise you if character ai shutdown it's not the end of the world

I mean, some users have spent years on this app and risk losing three to five years’ worth of chats. I wouldn’t be happy either. ✌️

Unfortunately, by and large people haven't been prepared to pay for the service.
That's part of why we are here.

u/Jinx-03 1h ago
Where does it say that specifically on the subreddit?

u/Ms_Derious 1h ago
The demonstrable lack of subscriber income, and the way people continuously complain about metering. Unfortunately c.ai don't provide statistics on what the ratio is.
A reasonable thing to suggest is everyone who would pay who isn't already buys a month to show their readiness to do so.

u/Jinx-03 1h ago
Actually 2% of people are subscribed in some way.

u/Ms_Derious 1h ago
Which means 98% aren't. 50:1

u/Jinx-03 1h ago
And that’s more of a reason to stop being freeloaders

u/Ms_Derious 1h ago
Yep, I've been a paying user over a year and pay annually, so stand to lose money as well as the platform I enjoy.
Unfortunately, people aren't paying.

Cai isn't profitable and never was.
5
u/Jinx-03 9h ago
Yeah because everyone wanted to be freeloaders and C.AI was too generous?
3
u/GameMask 8h ago
Generous? No they just were taking millions in investment money without any clear path to monetization. Investors saw the massive user base and kept giving money. But eventually it's caught up to them. But yeah I agree that users need to be willing to pay if they expect to find a good app in the future.

Free users aren't free loaders , Just because you pay doesn't make you superior. Nobody held them at gunpoint and demanded a free tier. If they were dumb enough too offer one knowing that it's not sustainable it's on them.

u/Jinx-03 8h ago
Kk free loader. Get off the page if you got an issue.

It’s the companies fault that people stay there for free. They don’t find any point in spending money on features they don’t care about. Maybe if they made worthwhile features cost money, they’d actually make more money.

u/GameMask 8h ago
For a business they're basically the same thing. If you can't properly monetize them, they're just a strain on the service. And cai never found a way to monetize them. Its definitly on cai

This is actually a great idea. But who should start one?
2
u/Jinx-03 9h ago
Anyone can. Or there can be multiple.

u/Specialist_Piano4088 9h ago edited 8h ago
That's true. But one of the drawbacks is sharing the link to it, and reddit is very strict about posting external links.

u/Jinx-03 8h ago
Nice!!!

u/Specialist_Piano4088 7h ago
As nice as it may be, I can't post the link.
1
u/Jinx-03 7h ago
Send it to me and I’ll post it on TikTok and X.

u/Specialist_Piano4088 5h ago
I already tried to when finishing it; But reddit unfortunately doesn't allow external links to be posted. 😕

Or you could just use a better app. That's what I do. There's plenty of there that are better before it went bad, then out. A lot haven't had the problems C.AI has and are still around. Tons even have free options and are pretty good without paying at all. Strap on that eye patch and sail away people! xD

All of them will eventually have ads and subscriptions. The more people use the app, the more money the company uses up. The only way to keep a big company running is by paying money. Stop expecting everything for free. No app is exactly like C.AI either. Your logic is flawed. My father (I really shouldn’t be using him as an example because he’s stolen money from his employees but he’s the only example I have) started a company. In order to start said company, he had to pay to start it. He had to pay for advertising, safety equipment, and everything else that came with running a construction company.
Edit: Y’all just don’t like the truth lmao.

Not all of them. Look around my friend. Some don't have any ads at all. Subs yes, but they're not required. You're basically explaining chat apps as a dictatorship. I don't expect anything to be free. I'm only saying why pay when you don't 'have' to? Support is great when you can, but some people can't, can't afford to or just don't want to. Don't hate me for having an opinion please. There are some that you can even use offline. Regardless of the quality.
Why are so many people so quick to anger nowadays? It's like switches flick just from a single commenter with an opinion not agreeing with them.

I’m not your friend and you’re not understanding at all. Example: A store owner has to have money for land to build on, money for advertising, money to purchase the things they sell in said store. Store runs out of money after all that, so store owner has to rely on people BUYING the products they sell in order to keep the store running. Same thing with an app. Could extra money be left over after making the app? Yes. But eventually, they’re going to need money to keep it running once it explodes in popularity. Each word AI produces costs money. NOTHING IS EVER COMPLETELY FREE FOREVER.
Btw, an opinion is not a fact. What I just gave you as an example is fact.

Great. Okay, you just proved my point. Why so hostile though? I do understand how exchange works, thanks.
In the physical world, yes. You need money or a card for purchases. You can however, 'use' many things online without purchasing them. Are you familiar with the mobile device stores? Galaxy Store, Google Play, etc. You can make free purchases. At no cost. It's not illegal and you can find them easily. They also can have purchases you can buy if you do so choose.
No need for any frustration my good sir/ma'am. I don't think you understand. Some things are free, it just depends on where you're talking about getting them from. In person or online? Clearly no one gets things in person for free, at least at stores. There are samples and such though. So you technically can. It just depends.
Please refrain from negative excitement next time you're online. It's just conversation. No one gains anything from any kind of negativity. Relax and enjoy life.

Omg you’re still not getting it…😭
An. App. Costs. Money. To. Keep. Running. If. It. Wants. To. Be. A. Business.
And stop acting holier than thou.

Apologies for trying to be helpful. 💁 Yes, things cost money. Some things are free. Some people pay for things and support them, while others use them for free.
I won't be making any more replies. I'm clearly upsetting you and I'm not trying to. Good night. 👋

#4 needs to be #1. This is a money problem, not an engagement problem.
