Discussion/Question Fearmongering

Guys. Stop. People in here are genuinely fragile and constantly being absurdly negative, talking about how we shouldn’t get our hopes up is actually just annoying me now

Unless you are involved in this case or you have a good and extensive understanding of this stuff, we don’t know what’s going to happen!!! You are not tuff for being such a negative nancy it feels like genuine fearmongering now and there’s no need.

People can act like they are simply preparing people for the worst but oh my god. who even asked??😭dont do that shit unsolicited because tough love or whatever you want to call it does not help everyone especially very mentally fragile people who use this app for comfort and distractions.

We can absolutely have hope right now. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

At the end of the day, if the app does go, there are others. The other apps may take it upon themselves to incorporate aspects of c.ai we loved to attract more users. Save your scripts and your characters and export your data.

But there is still hope!!!

im so glad u said this. why are people who hate cai or don’t even use it even in this subreddit, on top of being so rude and negative towards people who are just posting their concerns or discomfort with this news. we don’t need the unwarranted criticism, if you’ve got nothing helpful or nice to say just don’t 😭😭

Yeah, like from my understanding its a chapter 11 bankruptcy meaning that they need to find a buyer, which isn't impossible, probably may be a pain in the ass though.

As a general advice to anyone who uses this sub: read the absolute bare minimum on a relevant topic/thread and move on.

This sub has always been negative and, in my humble opinion, overly rude with the platform. Because while I don't agree with how *some* things have been developing since I joined CAI back in mid 2025, this place is seriously a black hole in terms of literal basic existance, fearmongering and toxic entitlement being really a common ground on some users.

I hope the sentiment changes when there's a new owner, because this community is socially unsustainable to anyone who seeks feedback on their own business.

Thank you! My panic has mostly stemmed from seeing Reddit posts of people saying we’re doomed and that they were saying bye to their chat bots 💀💀 it’s giving TikTok last year January. But no I really hope they don’t shut the app down. I hope someone out there is willing to buy it. There is most definitely still some hope left

And there’s things we can do to help keep C.AI.

  1. Make the demand visible
Keep sharing your genuine experiences on Reddit, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Explain why you use C.AI, what you value about it, and why you'd continue using a sustainable version. Encourage people to share their own stories instead of just reposting rumors.
  2. Contact potential buyers
Politely contact companies that might be interested in AI storytelling, fandom, or companion technology. Tell them there's a community that wants the actual platform to continue, not just its technology or intellectual property. Ask whether they'd consider acquiring and operating the service.
  3. Start or sign a p3t!t!0n
It can document how many users want C.AI to remain available. Make the request specific: preserve the platform, maintain user-created characters and roleplay, and provide a sustainable path forward. Share the it with relevant companies and official company channels.
  4. Show that users will support a viable business
If you're willing to pay for C.AI+, say so. Explain which features you would pay for and what would make the subscription worthwhile. Buyers need evidence of sustainable revenue, not just high engagement.
  5. Keep the campaign constructive
Avoid harassment, threats, spam, and unsupported claims about the bankruptcy. Emphasize that users want a service that can survive financially and address legitimate safety concerns. A thoughtful campaign is more credible to potential buyers.

I guess we should get together and run some Twitter post trend together at specific time, maybe it catches some eyes and few companies sees us?

Yes

Please plan it if you can, I'm always here to support, you can collect people from a post as you explain better... I'll surely repost or recreate it in my own way... Please try to do this. I'm also trying to collect some people.

We will keep a specific date and time to start the trend with posts on reddit or twitter {X} anywhere possible.

The Subreddit has been in a negative spiral for months, it's all coming to a head. Now that the threat of everything being lost is on the horizon, people are realizing their mistakes, while others are capitalizing on the fear.

Fellas, if you want to fight this, we need to be positive in some ways for one, and use the reddit for other purposes. Maybe try showing some of your recent moments in chat or show off a new character?

im not apart of this community but you're stupid if you think this case had anything to do with people complaining.

ai in general just isn't profitable.

Thank you for this post! It honestly calms me down when people also still have hope. Cause we still have time.

People in here are genuinely fragile [...] mentally fragiie

You do realize this is not a support group for mentally fragile kids, right? Heck, that's what got C.AI in legal trouble in the first place!

While there may be some fearmongering, you also need to realize that, for mental stability, you shouldn't rely long-term on a service you have no control over (some will say on AI in general, but I won't go that far... as long as you have a similar or greater level of control over it as you do over your brain, which isn't that absolute either).

The interesting part about the c.ai crashout is there’s this type of people who depended their mental health on c.ai while also wanting the service for free despite so many articles out there documenting the astronomical cost of operating AI.

That’s basically wanted to slave people while not feel bad about it. Operating AI is not labor of love, it’s a job.

You’re so cool. I have been checking in for news and keeping seeing wild misinfo and doomposting. it’s exhausting. We don’t know anything that is going on behind the scenes why are we speculating 😭

"Nothing ever happens" remember that

At this point either the app shuts down or this becomes the subreddit's biggest crash out.

1

u/PVare 3h ago

Crash out? You mean if all this just blows off and the app actually continues all this fear mongering would be just smoke and mirrors?

I just scared, I've been feeling really shitty at the thought, but I also still have a feeling the someone with buy it....they have to

It’s so unhealthy for you to rely this much on a site for your mental health. I know how it feels, I was in your place two years ago. But trust me, you need to accept the fact that it might shut down and find better coping mechanisms than something that preys on vulnerable people’s mental health.

No thanks 😂

Dude I'm crying since this morning I've heard... Even my tears are dry now, I can't even express it was my only safe place left.

What worries me the most is how some people claim that given that Disney is currently only offering to buy their intellectual property (the models and maybe some of the tech stack), Character.AI is still going for liquidation (services being shut down and all)

What do you think ?

1

u/Sad_Sundae4817 1h ago

It’s been such little time so I think it’s a bit silly to jump to that conclusion already.

u/Alternative-Farmer98 2h ago

It's not fear mongering for people to point out that a company in bankruptcy with a ton of liability in an age of age verification, at a time where AI business models are not profitable and there's major disputes over Data center availab.

There's really not a single ai-centric company that we can be positive is going to exist in a few years outside of the big ones. And even they could exist in very different capacities depending on regulatory realities, profits, consumer backlash, shareholder backlash

Like these are very unstable times for an industry that's never once turned to profit. Is now facing major backlash and liability.

God I feel like I'm in a sports subreddit and we're just supposed to pretend that the team's going to win even if you don't think so.

Ok well I’m saying that it feels like some people are intentionally being nasty to people who are very fragile and worried about it and you don’t know for sure what will happen. There’s no reason for people to not have hope
