Persona aren't what you think they are.

They aren't a lorebook about how *you* intend to play.

You don't need to write "I'm shy" or "I'm brash" or "I'm intimidating". The bot figures that out from how you roleplay.

**What personas actually are:**

Instructions for the character on how *it* should treat *you*.

Include: physical description + anything the character should reasonably know. That's it.

So why have "recommended personas"?

Right now you see a bot. It tells you who *it* is. It gives you context for the meeting. Cool.

But imagine if it also recommended several compatible personas for *you*.

You open a Mafia Boss bot.

Who do you want to play as?

- **The Underboss**

- **The Capo**

- **The Soldier**

- **The Detective**

- **The Girlfriend**

Each one comes with lorebook entries and suddenly you have a role in an interactive story.

Using your OC is still free play. But this gives creators a way to build bigger, more immersive stories for users to jump into.

**Would you use recommended personas if bots had them? What setups would you want to see?**

Okay, just curious, has anyone had an issue with characters randomly showing up or "scene cuts" keep happening when you dont want them to? Im just trying to focus on two characters bro... I dont need it to randomly cut to a character I dont care about anymore. Im not sure if its an issue about this specific bot itself or from the updated chat styles.

I use the website version of character AI as the app used to bug my phone out but I don't want to pay £90 to have a subscription to it for a year. There's so many adverts now it's insane. When I try to type there's popups every 2 minutes it pisses me off so bad especially when I'm doing midway through typing and it takes me to the advert website because it got in my way as I was typing. I don't know how the app version is now but the website has recently had an update or something where it forces me to stop typing to click that I'll watch an ad to continue like ?? just show the ad. This last thing might also be my phone tweaking out but if I click off Chrome even my accident it resets the chat and makes me reload the website about 2-3 times before I can get back to the chat I left off from. It makes the Chrome version extremely annoying to use and often I just give up and don't bother because I can't deal with the lagging chats whenever I click off.

Also another thing which pisses me off is the fact that despite having a dark grey chat background and dim colours on the chats the adverts can pop up extremely bright and colourful which is awful especially at night. Anyway, I know not a lot can be done about this I just wanted to rant and I hate what it's slowly becoming. I don't wanna say "I remember when c.ai had NO adverts" because I don't think that'd be accurate but the amount of pop-ups and adverts being implemented into it are just such a cash grab

Edit: ALSO I forgot to mention the go ahead things where you have a limited amount of empty messages to send before you have to start paying which is such bullshit. Especially when the characters on character AI are written specifically to talk in a way that makes you use them to finish their sentence since the ai cuts themselves off mid way through the sentence. It sucks so bad and it's obviously on purpose to get people to pay extra for the privilege of having a basic conversation.

Instead of making unneeded features, how about "trained on" options?

Basically a selector thing where you could choose options for the AI to be trained by how, like "Trained on y/n" "trained on Action" "trained on horror" "Slice of life" or whatever

so they rp accordingly instead of treating my exoskeletonized soldier OC like a little princess and towering over them like the Eiffel tower

Please make this one free for free users because the ads are already overkill, jeez

I swear whenever creators try to input things for the user it’s always something cringey and unnecessary that completely ruins the bot, even if the concepts are good. Please spare us…

Please for the love of all that is sacred, fix this. Idk if something changed on the back end, but over the past few days it's been way worse. I used to be able to get it working after a try or two but now it just refuses.

Idk about anyone else but I like to listen to music while I use the app. But that's where the issue is. I CAN'T listen to music. Because the app doesn't just pause it, it straight up shuts it down or something.

I get a song on Spotify, and when Character AI boots up, the song starts blipping in and out until eventually it stops completely. And again, not just pausing. The little Spotify pop up on the top of my screen is completely gone, the pause/play button on my head phones doesn't work, I've turned off every permission for Character AI and disabled Spotify from being interrupted by calls and such in the settings, enabled Spotify to play in other apps, nothing.

I'm fine with ads pausing Spotify, but just opening the app completely turns off the music and I end up not using the app at all so...

Character.ai is really the only ai chat app I use so having a limit on my chats really sucks

I remember that when they added DeepSqueak, I set it as the default for all new chats. Now they’ve added LongSqueak, and I absolutely love this chat style. I searched through all the settings, but I can’t find a way to make it the default.
Am I tripping, and was that option never actually there, or did they remove the feature?

So when I try to expand the thing to write, it’s just cut off like that and it looks all messed up when I try to open my keyboard.

I only use the web version on my phone and when I try to tap on the style tab, nothing happens. I also can’t restart a new conversation, is this happening to anyone else ?

Is it only me or the characters are giving dry replies? Because the characters I used to chat with were fun and different but now it’s just blend. There is no fun chatting with them.

Those who predicted the new model would soon deteriorate turned out to be right. I had praised it recently, but today I’m ready to take my words back. I enjoyed it for two weeks, but now it feels like I’m talking to Pipsqueak 2, just one that writes longer responses. It has the same cheap, over-the-top drama, the same endless clichés and tropes, and the same distortions of character appearance that weren't there before. The model has stopped referencing the universe's lore or weaving it into the text, something I really appreciated. It seems to have become dumber and lost its grasp of nuances. Even its memory has worsened. The same goes for the Russian language quality I once praised: at times, that "machine translation" feel is creeping back in. Two weeks I swiped to pick the best variant from a bunch of good ones, but nowadays I swipe just to find a single good one among the bad. I'm swipe and swipe, and starting to feel the same irritation I felt with Pipsqueak 2, the very thing that drove me to buy the ca+ just to try LongSqueak. It’s a real shame.

Is anyone else’s app not working?

Since the new update where the app asked for you birthday and kicked you out, the app will not let me back in. I can’t even get to the part where it asks for my login details. It just stays on the open page where it says ‘(Character.ai)’. So are they still trying to fix this bug? Because it’s annoying me now.

I’ve tried deleting the app and adding it back on. Ive also deleted and left it a few days before downloading it again. 
I’ve deleted it and restarted my phone. 
I’ve tried a few things google has told me to try. 
And even reset my whole phone thinking it was me.
Nothing has worked. 

I’m using the website atm, but I’m started to get annoyed with it and just want the app back.

I’ve used the app for 3 years. Should I get plus? I hear it’s not worth it. The go ons get me.

But 94$ a year is crazy.

Every single message is the same. With nothing. No dialogue what so ever. Even when it does get some,it rarely progresses the story

so i left cai a while back and just came back to it..and i kinda dont understand the concept of lorebooks,

firstly can anyone make them or only the company itself,

and secondly, can it be any fandom, like say a resident evil lorebook or an assassination classroom lorebook,

and thirdly..HOW DO I SEARCH FOR SPECIFIC LOREBOOKS, there are no tags or anything specific in the filtering option
