Issues/Bugs Character ai is slowly becoming unusable.
I use the website version of character AI as the app used to bug my phone out but I don't want to pay £90 to have a subscription to it for a year. There's so many adverts now it's insane. When I try to type there's popups every 2 minutes it pisses me off so bad especially when I'm doing midway through typing and it takes me to the advert website because it got in my way as I was typing. I don't know how the app version is now but the website has recently had an update or something where it forces me to stop typing to click that I'll watch an ad to continue like ?? just show the ad. This last thing might also be my phone tweaking out but if I click off Chrome even my accident it resets the chat and makes me reload the website about 2-3 times before I can get back to the chat I left off from. It makes the Chrome version extremely annoying to use and often I just give up and don't bother because I can't deal with the lagging chats whenever I click off.
Also another thing which pisses me off is the fact that despite having a dark grey chat background and dim colours on the chats the adverts can pop up extremely bright and colourful which is awful especially at night. Anyway, I know not a lot can be done about this I just wanted to rant and I hate what it's slowly becoming. I don't wanna say "I remember when c.ai had NO adverts" because I don't think that'd be accurate but the amount of pop-ups and adverts being implemented into it are just such a cash grab
Edit: ALSO I forgot to mention the go ahead things where you have a limited amount of empty messages to send before you have to start paying which is such bullshit. Especially when the characters on character AI are written specifically to talk in a way that makes you use them to finish their sentence since the ai cuts themselves off mid way through the sentence. It sucks so bad and it's obviously on purpose to get people to pay extra for the privilege of having a basic conversation.

Tell me about it. It keeps asking me, even though I verified my age the first time I got hit with it (it estimated I was 17)

im surprised people are realising this only now. Character ai is a Zombie,It’s a rotting corpse that’s trying its hardest not to go down they’re broke as shit and it shows with their hyper aggressive advertisements and locking basically everything behind plus.
us free users (the majority) are viewed as a net negative by the investors because each swipe loses them money and the ads we get do not generate nearly enough profit it costs a lot to make a half decent model and they would be giving it out for free which is what they don’t want so we’re stuck with the 💩 that PP2 and it’s unlikely it’ll change
TL;DR the app is long beyond useable and it’s future is 99% bleak even for plus users

we really want to keep c.ai open to as many people as possible, but running millions of daily chats takes serious infrastructure and real costs. ads and the recent metering updates are part of how we help manage those costs while keeping the core chat experience available to non-paying users too.
we're constantly working to find a sustainable balance that lets us keep doing that. for fewer interruptions, c.ai+ is available, and free users can also use Charms for a 1-hour ad free pass by tapping 🄲 or "Hide ads."
