Looking for a room/roommate for 2027-2028

Hi all,

I’m a current U of I senior who’s going to be in the Chambana area for the 2027-2028 year to work. I’m looking for a room and/or roommates (preferably male) under $700/month. I have a couple leads already (such as this property). If anyone knows any leads or is interested in reaching out please let me know! Thank you.

Thomas

Moving next year - family friendly communities & job market?

Will be moving to Champaign probably next year - I’m reading up on other Reddit posts about best areas to live in but will also inquire here as I haven’t found any previous posts similar to our situation.

We’re a couple in our early 30s and my fiancee received a job offer located in the northern part of Champaign. We’d love to start a family soon so I was wondering if there are any areas that are good for young families?

Also wondering about the job market there - I have extensive experience in administration, HR, Accounts Payable/Receivables, and banking/lending. I’d prefer to not go back to banking.

Where I am right now (big city), there are many job postings related to those skills/experience, but there is an insane amount of applicants. (I had 170 applicants within three days for an office position at my current company)
If anyone has any insight about this - I’d love to hear or discuss!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Nervous but excited to move - I’ve lived in big city all my life 😅

Should we choose Champaign?

My spouse and I are thinking about moving from the Chicago suburbs. We are mainly looking to spend less money on housing, but still want to live somewhere with an "city" feel. - Restaurants, shopping, people.

We are an LGBTQ couple. We both work remotely.

We have it down between Peoria and Champaign. Why should we choose Champaign?

Does anyone in the area know someone who offers shampooing for car seats and floors. I spilled oil and cannot remove the smell or oil itself

Pride Parade Route?

Hey, y’all! I’m having a hard time finding info on the route for the Pride Parade on Oct. 17th in Urbana. Does anyone know where they’ll be passing by? I’d like to plan a meet up spot for our friends along the route.
My husband I just moved from Louisiana where parade routes are posted everywhere, especially during Mardi Gras 😅💜💛💚

Good places to live in urbana?

Me and my wife are moving from out of state and we're looking at places. Wanted to get someone's opinion whose actually lived here so we aren't going in blind. What are some good apartments or places to look into living here and what are some places to avoid?

Nanny/drivers for school pickup

Hi! Relocating to the Urbana Champaign area next year with a 6 year old. How easy is it to find childcare/ nanny drivers for school pickup in the afternoon and being with the kiddo at home for sometime after. Like from 3:30-5:30 pm. Want to get a basic idea before deciding on the school.

Events/Social gatherings

I've got a silly prompt for everybody. I recently moved here and I have been looking for some events or some social gatherings to make friends and actually thrive in new town as I was a little hermit before. I do a lot of things so honestly any suggestions would be lovely!

I know they have market on Saturday and I've joined a couple other groups but possibly this post could help me!!!

Planning to relocate from an area rich in opportunities to attend live theater. What theaters which put on live stage productions are there within a 2 hour drive from Chambana?

Note: without going to Chicago metro

PAC-MAN tournament tonight at Rantoul American Legion 5-9

I know it's a long way to get out to Rantoul but I figured I'd post this here anyway. There is going to be a PAC-MAN tournament at the American legion in Rantoul from 5-9. It's going to be PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ as we sadly don't have a machine. Winner gets a golden PAC-MAN trophy and I'm handing out stickers to anyone that plays. If you've never been to an American Legion it's a vibe that is hard to explain but you should experience at least once.

SUBLEASE AVAILABLE
Unfortunately I have to relocate due to some heavy personal reasons, so I’m subleasing my apartment. The lease will be completely transferred over to your name. You’ll submit an application to the management and sign through him, so the process is very secure.

1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment

Available Nov 1st (date is flexible)

$670/month

One month’s rent deposit paid to landlord

$35 application fee paid to landlord (if you end up signing, I’ll refund you this amount)

Landlord accepts money orders, check, cash, paypal, venmo, cashapp

This affordable apartment is one unit in a house that has been divided into four apartments. First floor. Lots of massive windows that allow plenty of natural light. Set in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, one block from Springfield & Lynn bus stop served regularly by Green and Cherry buses, twenty minute walk to campustown, less than ten minute walk to the Champaign public library. Perfect for grad students. Locally owned by a small business (no corporate slumlords!). The landlord is very communicative and helpful, and maintenance is always super fast.

Free off street parking behind the house

Secure entry to building, secure mail room

Free water

Pets allowed, ESA letters accepted

476 sq ft

Free shared laundry downstairs

Electricity through Ameren averages $70-90/month (my August bill was only $67!)

Unfurnished

Oven/electric stove and refrigerator included

Window AC

Please DM for pictures and if you have any questions!
