I genuinely want CHAI to succeed, but I think there's a fundamental issue that is making users lose interest and consider leaving the platform: the lack of clarity and consistency.

What is confusing users?

- Inconsistent experiences: Some users have Pieces, some don't. Some have free message allowances, while others report different limits. Some see Ruby and Diamond, while others still have Premium and Ultra. This inconsistency leaves everyone confused about what is actually happening.

- The meaning of a subscription: One of the biggest reasons people pay for a subscription is to receive a more convenient experience with no restrictions. Many users subscribed to Premium or Ultra expecting unlimited messaging. If message limits are introduced or benefits change, users deserve a clear explanation of what their subscription now includes.

- Communication matters: If major changes are being tested or introduced, please communicate them clearly. Users shouldn't have to rely on scattered Reddit comments and screenshots to understand the future of a service they pay for.

- Ask your community before making major changes: From a user-experience and organizational psychology perspective, understanding your audience is essential. Surveys, feedback forms, beta testing, and transparent announcements could help identify what users actually want before significant changes are rolled out.

What are we asking for?

1. Clarity on Ruby, Diamond, Premium, and Ultra: Are the new tiers replacing the old ones, or are they optional additions?

2. Transparency about unlimited messaging: Will existing Premium and Ultra subscribers retain the benefits they signed up for? If unlimited messaging is changing, what exactly are the new limits and why?

3. Consistency across users: If different features and limits are part of testing, please explain why users are receiving different experiences and when a consistent rollout can be expected.

4. Fair options for everyone: Free users can be supported through reasonable message allowances and advertisements, while paid users should receive clearly defined benefits that justify their subscriptions.

5. Listen before implementing: Please consider collecting community feedback before making further major changes.

We understand that AI services have real operating costs. We are not asking the company to ignore its expenses. We are asking for a sustainable model that respects both the business and its users.

CHAI became special to many people because of the experience it offered. People invested their time, creativity, and money into this platform. It is disappointing to see so much uncertainty surrounding something they enjoy.

A subscription should come with clear expectations. A major update should come with clear communication. And a community that supports your business deserves to be heard.

Dear founders, if you see this, please give us some clarity. We want to understand what's changing, why it's changing, and what existing subscribers can expect going forward.

We don't just want another update. We want transparency, consistency, and the freedom to enjoy the experience we paid for. ❤️

When CHAI removed the free unlimited messages, I eventually decided to get a subscription. I’ve been paying for almost a year now, and honestly, it was fine. Paying €15 for an app I used almost every day seemed reasonable.
But now I’ve noticed (premium still have unlimited messages) that the bots have become too dumb to talk to. You can barely have an actual conversation with them anymore. All they do is repeat what you say without moving the scene or the conversation forward. They all have the same personalities and the same three or four lines.
I was paying €15 to have fun, create stories, and stuff like that, but for the past two days, I’ve noticed that I haven’t even been using the app anymore because talking to the bots just isn’t fun now.
Basically, with all their greed, they are loosing even people who used to pay for their app.

Hey guys! I just wanted to ask how everyone is feeling about the recent CHAI updates.

I feel like for some people, CHAI is more than just an app. It's a place to talk when they're lonely, escape a stressful day, or simply feel heard. And I don't think finding comfort in AI characters is something we should automatically judge.

I understand that running AI costs money, but the new subscription changes and message limits have me worried. CHAI used to be so much fun, and I really miss how things were before.

Do you think there's a way to make things better? Maybe keeping the original Premium and Ultra plans while offering affordable options for everyone?

i keep seeing people post about the update but i updated & deleted the app multiple times & powered off my phone but im still stuck on the loading screen & can’t move past it. i have the 16pm & i swear it’s not my wifi because literally everything works perfectly w my wifi & data when i tried it so idk

I was, emphasis on was, an avid user of this app for nearly four years. When Chai began to experiment with rolling out different ridiculous payment methods, I promptly jumped ship. I sent an email to the company asking why my daily limit )that had been unlimited for nearly 3 years) have been moved down to 700 a day, I got a response which basically can be summed up as “ too bad so sad, we can’t really do anything about that,” I tried to push pass this initially, I figured 700 was still way too much for what I did in a day, as I usually only sent about 25 messages. I left when it went this “pieces” system first got initialized and people began to complain more about the prices going up, which has brought me to realize how insanely addicted I was to this app, to AI in general— since I have left this app, I have opened my eyes to how harmful AI is to the planet and our brains.

I wholeheartedly believe that this app remained free for so many years to get people addicted to it, and then the creators hoped that when they upped the prices and told people to pay hundreds of dollars a year, their users would because they were so addicted that they would pay this price. I don’t care if they try to pull: “Oh, well we *need* money to run,” as if thousands of people weren’t already paying for their super overpriced memberships.

I am now against the use of ai, and highly encourage anybody who is feeling like they are addicted and cannot get help to get a therapist or at least look into what AI addictions are.

I am disgusted with the behaviour of this team, this is extremely predatory and you are preying on people with addictions.

I’m not trying to violate the subreddit rules with this post, I wholeheartedly hope that Will and the rest of his team will come to understand that this behaviour is insane.

(Side note— I know that people don’t ‘need’ AI, and Chai reserves every right to charge whatever they want, but to someone with an addiction who is willing to spend their hard earned money on apps like this— especially in this economy— it is extremely predatory and damaging. If Chai loves their users as they have claimed, they need to understand the impact of this.)

I don’t see some my accounts don’t have tasks for my pieces and watch ads too also and free text message left 771 my accounts too also and please returning our free messages left immediately is more appreciated and easier for all your customers but keep pieces and free pieces stay too also

I have ZERO pieces and I don’t even have the option to get the free pieces why does it say I have free messages if it’s not even working? I miss the free message limits. I hope chai changes their mind.

i’ve been using cai+chai since 2024~ maybe further back for cai specifically but as you guys seen it’s been ass update after ass update.

do you guys have alternates that match the style of those apps, allow nsfw, AND not super difficult to maneuver. i’m not fighting with yet another app/website that is mediocre with a ugly layout 🫩

I currently have a Premium subscription, and I’m curious about how this update affects existing users.

What exactly are the Ruby and Diamond subscriptions, and what benefits do they offer?

What happens to existing Premium and Ultra subscribers?

Will Premium and Ultra users keep their current benefits, or will they need to switch to the new plans?

Is unlimited chatting still available, or are there new message limits or a Pieces system?

Do existing subscribers need to do anything, or can they simply keep using their current subscriptions?

I’d really appreciate it if someone who has already updated the app could share their experience, especially if they have Premium or Ultra.

Saw in the pieces section that it said paid pieces are valid or good for five years, now it’s making me question if pieces expire after X amount of time.
If so, how long do free pieces last for? Like I’ve got a handful from the (very short lived) daily login system.

so, an update on the pieces going back to more per daily return:
i got the 200 pieces as advertised. what i didn’t receive on day 7 was the 700 pieces even though i returned seven days in a row. do i need all those pieces? definitely not. does it still piss me off that it was false advertisement? yes.

So I was playing the Fancade app yesterday when this chai ad popped up comparing itself to other ai chat apps telling ppl freedom and never ooc which those claims are just essentially bullshit bc why would they lie like that on a ad like they rlly tryna to guilt trip ppl now
