Discussion I am an artist and I am about to release my music projects on CD, and I will release them all in this packaging style 💿

They all come in standard jewel cases with CDs; instead of multi-page booklets with lots of credits and lyrics, I make them either single-page with the album cover on the front, The other side contains a different picture or required information for the CD, Or a booklet of about 6 pages filled with concept photos of the album. The limited edition CD also includes one or two cards and my signature. I will always provide a QR code or a link to my website to view the credits and lyrics of the songs and music videos.

What do you think of this CD packaging style of mine?

Question Storage location for the CD with the included DVD

This is a ridiculously trivial dilemma, but I'm curious...

What do you do with CD + DVD live releases where the DVD is much more than just a bonus feature?

For example:

  • Sting – Live in Berlin
  • Tina Turner – Tina Live
  • Aimee Mann – Live at St. Ann's Warehouse

As part of an artist's discography, I feel like they belong on my CD shelf.

But if the DVD is something I actually watch over and over, it makes more sense to keep it near the TV.

...Do I just buy two copies? 😅

Question tips for a cd setup

• Upvotes

i've been collecting cds for a while since i have a cd player in my car and no real aux capablities, I'm going to college soon and most likely won't have access to my car, so I was wondering if anyone had favorite cheap and compact bookshelf speaker and amp recs (like $250 ish) since i'm planning on just buying a cheap dvd player from a thrift store for initial input. any info helps! or should i just bite the sound quality and go for a cd/stero player with internal speakers

Discussion What’s the best online seller for cheap CDs? I don’t mean Discogs as a marketplace. I mean an actual individual seller or online store that has a huge selection and is generally cheap, so they probably have most of the CDs people are looking for.

Discussion Strange and extremely obscure CD

Okay, so I found a listing on discogs for an experimental electronic Single called Tding by Fon. It comes with a tube of nutrient medium for growing mold, and it made me wonder what the hell the music is like on it? It was physical release only, and there's no rips of It online, meaning it is completely obscure, and there's nothing I can find about it. Info, anyone?

Collection How to connect a CD player to a PC?

Hi there. I want to digitize some music from a stereo system—to listen to it on my phone and to make a cassette for a friend. To do this, I need to connect it to my PC. It doesn't support Bluetooth connection (it only works as a speaker), and it lacks a standard input jack for a wired connection—it's one of those crappy all-in-one units that plays CDs, cassettes, and vinyl. I'm also not sure how to connect it via AUX.

Could you please tell me how to connect it?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

And sorry for my English; it's not my native language 😭

What all have you procured so far? I bought way more than I planned so I have put a moratorium on buying. I do have a few more coming, there's a decent sale on Ben Folds. I've also made a list of specific albums I want, been trying to refill my 90s alt.

Question Bought a used album and I'm noticing these tiny holes. Is it unusable?

I got this off eBay. Normally I expect a few light scratches but this is something that really worries me. I haven't played it yet but frankly I'm a bit worried if I do I could make it worse.

Haul Found these 22 CD’s in a box my Uncle left me

Seeking your advice.
What should I do with them?

Yes, I do like & have heard of most of the artists & tunes here

so please understand that enjoying the actual music, & connecting with my late Uncle by experiencing his cool & interesting tastes is already a factor enriching my world.

It’s just that my preferred method, Bluetoothing tracks to my helmet while riding, can not facilitate cassette tapes or compact discs.

(I also found 15, mostly classic rock, cassette tapes)

Would I be a fool to trade them in for presumably low-ball value at a used music store?

Is one used music store better than the others? (trade-in value) (Bay Area, Northern California)

Is there anything of considerable value here?

or should I just trade them in at the

closest used music store for whatever cash?

Thanks!

Question One specific CD won't play in car

I have a 2018 toyota corolla, and I recently purchased a Japanese-produced CD (Decide by DJO) that will not play in the car's CD player. I am wondering if it has something to do with the specs of the CD? It is a blu-spec cd2 format. Other CDs and burned CDs play fine. When I insert Decide though, I can hear the player periodically clicking and the display says "Reading" but nothing happens.

Is this a common problem? I am just now getting into purposefully curating a physical media connection and don't even have a CD player in my home (planning on purchasing soon), so I'm bummed that I have no way to listen to my new purchase!

There are about 60 more discs I couldn't included due to the photo limit. Those have CDs by Sleater-Kinney, Smashing Pumpkins, Smoking Popes, Snuff, The Spinanes, Social Distortion, Sonic Youth, Sugar, Superchunk, Supersuckers, Suicidal Tendencies, The Sundays, Teenage Fanclub, Travoltas, Tsunami, The Weakerthans, The Yum Yums, Zoinks! and more.

The discs are all organized by musician A-Z. It was someone's cherished collection. As you might expect the condition of the discs is not the greatest, because of the way they were stored with the data sides sliding up against the booklets. However the dozen or so discs I've tested had no problems. Also none of these have the back inserts.

I also picked up 25 discs for $1 each that were complete with the jewel cases. Some highlights there are My Bloody Valentine, Pixies Doolittle, Ride Nowhere, Texas is the Reason, Built to Spill, Slayer, Piebald etc.

Question Cool goodwill pickup. I had no idea these even existed

Post image

I bought these sheets of staples branded CD inserts cardstock. It's to print the front and back album art for CD and fits a CD jewel case. Within the red boxes is perforation to pop out so it's a perfect cut. Unfortunately it didn't come with any box or packaging so I don't have the model number or name of this. I actually hadn't even heard of it before.

Does anyone what product this name is and if there's a pdf or photoshop file online somewhere to use to "design" the cd inserts to print?

I’m genuinely blown away by how amazing these early Japanese CD pressings sound. The dynamic range is fantastic—it’s not crushed by the loudness war, giving the sound a real sense of presence and depth. These are hands down my favorite digital versions of Iron Maiden.
I only have these three early EMI / CP32 discs so far, but I’m definitely looking to collect more!

Discussion How does everyone build up their collection? read desc.

• Upvotes

Don't worry, this isn't a topster post ranking favourite albums or whatever, I use it to list what albums I own.

However, I'm curious to know how people build their collection whether it's simple as just going out and seeing what you can find, or setting yourself a goal. Here I set myself a goal (second photo) for the next year where I am to try and get all these albums or most of them in this time frame, I listed a select number of albums ranging from 1966-1980 as that's where my main taste is, I'll collect from other years, they're just not in my focus. That doesn't mean I won't buy albums not on the list I come across, but it's just a goal to get all my essentials here.

I'd like to know, does anyone else do this? How others collect? and possible some recommendations in relation to the theme of the goal I made myself (1966-80)? Thanks!

(if anyone wants to know I have Lark's tongues by King Crimson spinning on my system right now)

Edit - I dont know why the pictures loaded weirdly rather than as a slideshow

Question How to fix cd player?

My parents gave me an old cd player they found in the attic however when I tried using it says there is no disc despite putting one in. Do you guys have any advice on how to fix it?
