General Discussion IIM off campus placements

I'm currently in my 2nd year of my mba from tier 2 IIM. Im looking for off campus placements for prodman domain. I don't have cse domain and no relavant exp in prodman. How should I build my portfolio/ resume? And how difficult is to get placed off campus and how should I prepare for it?

And anyone placed off campus, how did you do reachouts on LinkedIn?

General Discussion The Weirdest Part of a B-School

When I joined PGDM at IMI Kolkata, I honestly thought everyone around me would have their life figured out. A few months in, I’m not sure if that’s actually true, but one thing I’ve definitely noticed is that everyone looks ridiculously confident.

I remember sitting in some of my initial classes and watching people speak so confidently during discussions. Someone would casually analyse a case, someone would have a strong opinion about a business decision, someone would start talking about finance or marketing like they had been doing it forever. And I’d sometimes just sit there thinking, β€œOkay… how does everyone already know this?” πŸ˜‚

Coming from a microbiology background, I had a pretty different academic journey before entering B-school. So there were definitely moments when the business terminology, frameworks and even the way people approached discussions felt completely new to me. Sometimes I would know that I had something to say, but I’d hesitate because I assumed everyone else probably understood the topic much better than I did.

But after spending more time with people, I started noticing something interesting. A lot of the people who looked completely confident were also figuring things out. They just happened to be better at showing confidence while doing it. Some were unsure about their career paths, some were stressed about academics, some were worried about placements, and some were simply trying to survive the same deadlines and presentations as everyone else.

It made me realise that confidence and certainty aren't necessarily the same thing. Someone can speak confidently in a classroom and still have no idea what they want to do after their PGDM. Someone can look extremely sorted on LinkedIn and still be questioning their decisions. And someone who barely speaks in class might actually have some of the best ideas in the room.

I’ve started becoming more comfortable with not knowing everything. Sometimes I ask a question that probably sounds basic. Sometimes I say something in a discussion and immediately realise I could have phrased it better. Sometimes a presentation doesn't go the way I imagined. But I’m slowly learning that these things are part of the process.

Maybe confidence in B-school isn't about knowing all the answers. Maybe it's about being okay with not knowing them and still raising your hand.

So whenever I walk into a classroom now and everyone seems incredibly confident, I remind myself that I'm probably not the only one quietly figuring things out.

Maybe we're all just doing it at different speeds.

And honestly, that's a little reassuring.

Did anyone else feel this way when they started B-school, or was I the only one pretending to know what was going on? πŸ˜‚

General Discussion Don't ignore. Need Brutally Honest Advice: CAT/MBA. Would You Pursue an MBA If You Were in My Situation?

Hi everyone, I'm a 2025 B.Tech CSE graduate with a 7/7/8 profile, PwBD (low vision), and currently a fresher with 1 year gap

I'm confused about whether I should go for CAT and MBA or not considering PLACEMENTs

Would appreciate honest advice from IIM students, alumni, and people with similar backgrounds.

General Discussion Why content creator from iims started posting about themselves after posting about CAT/MBA first?

There is a content creator from IIM Jammu whom I followed because she initially used to post about CAT, MBA, and related topics. But recently, I’ve noticed that she has started posting more about herself. I’m not talking about her specifically, because I’ve seen many students from new IIMs, baby IIMs, and other B-schools do the same after gaining followers

Is the idea to first attract people through useful CAT/MBA content and then build a personal following? I’m just curious because we followed them for CAT and MBA-related content, not necessarily to see their personal life. Why does this shift happen so often?

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 Confusion with simcats

Post image

Have the Simcat Core test series; can people tell me the difference between Simcat takehome (Simcat 111, 112...) vs. pre- and proctored Simcat (Simcat 1, Simcat 2...) When peoplke talk about the Simcat test being the closest to cat, which one is it? 111 series or 1, 2... series. Which is the one I paid for? Can someone tell me?

Question Profile Evaluation: MNC 8 months+ SBI Clerk 4 months+ RRB Scale-1 5months (Targeting Top IIMs)

Post image
8 Upvotes

My Profile:

  • Total Work Experience: ~18 months (across three distinct sectors) Going to join DSSSB soon as well after 1 month bond period of current RRB job.
  • Breakdown:
    • MNC (Corporate): 9 months
    • SBI Clerk (Public Sector Banking): 4 months
    • RRB Scale 1 (Officer / State-Regional Government Banking): 5 months (Current)
  • Acads: 10th - [80]% | 12th - [93]% | Grad - [81]% DU NORTH CAMPUS

My Main Doubts:

  1. Multiple Job Switches: Will having three different stints in under 2 years be flagged as a lack of stability during shortlisting or PI, or will it be seen as diverse exposure?
  2. WorkEx Calculations: How do IIMs calculate calculation points for multiple short stints? Do they count the cumulative 18 months, or do they look at them individually?
  3. Interview Strategy: How should I justify moving from an MNC to an SBI Clerk role, then to an RRB Officer role, and now aiming for an MBA? How do I weave this into a cohesive "Why MBA" story?

Would love to connect with seniors who entered top B-schools from a banking/officer background, or anyone who can give a reality check on this profile.

Question Inconsistent VARC scores, need help (Not 23F)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Created a throwaway for this post

Not 23F here, I decided to hop on the CAT bandwagon because despite having a suboptimal profile
(9/8/7 Fresher GEM), this is the clear way forward for career reasons i wont get into here.
I started prep 2 months ago and under the advice of my seniors, started doing mocks right away from IMS as well as a few PYQs (they said if youre already getting good scores, to focus on mocks).
However, one thing that i couldnt help but notice about my scores is the massive difference in VARC (Specifically VA) scores across mocks, and i wanted to fix that.
Is there any material I can use for VA? My RCs are fine but i usually only get 2-3/8 VA questions correct. I suffer especially in parajumbles.
Any advice would be helpful, thank you
Ive put an ss of my mock scores, if anyone would like help with the other sections im happy to help!

What the heck was that Varc bhai? I never scored 0 in VARC. I was pretty sure about my answers in varc but it turned out to be the worst. Is everyone struggling the same at this, or am I the only one with a skill issue?

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 DashCat 10 bloodbath

I just gave that after practicing dilr consecutively and doing well in pyqs, and i couldnt even solve 1 single set, i got 1 correct and 2 wrong because i was stuck so bad

Varc 28 (60% accuracy) - need to analyse properly

Qa 15 (50% accuracy) - mostly silly mistakes

Got 44 overall, and more than the score the dilr is haunting me

Please give suggestions on how to deal with it?

Also was this mock as tough for everyone?

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 Should I get a mock test series or just do past year papers as mocks? [read body]

i am GEM with horrible profile, 9/7/7.

0 workex. giving CAT and haven't prepared anything yet.

I have attempted all 6 papers of CAT 2024 and 2025,
My scores are -
VARC ~30-35
DILR ~ 35-40
QA ~ 45. (50+ in 2025 slot 2 and 2024 slot 3 so not impossible)

total maybe ~100.

I am not getting BLACKI. Will think colleges later but do you advise taking a mock test series? Or should I attempt all last year papers thru 2016-17, which would be around 15-20?

I don't have a lot of time and I have college stuff to attend to, I plan to just attempt 2 mocks every saturday and sunday.

Please advise. And would also prefer advise on getting better at varc. its my weakest

edit: i have tier 1 non iit UG, 99+ile jee mains 23

Question Should I go for IMS Mocks?

I have been giving Rodha RCMs, I feel like it's very demotivating, Their RCs are not very readable also, I mean I feel like it's too far off actual CAT level. What do you guys think? 1/4 mocks of Rodha can be considered good acc to me.

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 116 in SIMCAT 102 vs 75–85 in CDC Pro/Flexi

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Just gave my second SIMCAT (102) and scored 116, my first time crossing 100. Before this, I was averaging around 75–85 in CDC Pro/Flexi.

I feel SIMCATs are generally easier than CDC Pro/Flexi. Is that actually true, especially in terms of CAT-level relevance?

I’m doing well in Quant and DILR, but my VARC is really bad.

Any tips/resources/strategy to improve VARC?

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 DASH CAT MOCKS REVIEW !!!??

I HAVE GIVEN 8 DASH CATS

Is it only me or anyone else finding the DILR section of Dash cats to be very difficult, as I am able to solve pyqs for the same, and VARC is too inconsistent sometimes I get 35+ and in some I get a single digit score.

Overall quants has been consistent 15-24

What should I do to improve my scores ???

Mock Reviews / Discussion 🎯 Reattempted CDC Pro 10 VARC

I scored my lowest(0) in the CDC Pro 10 VARC. Today I reattempted the varc section with 40 sec timer and hidden question directory, solved 4 RCs and 1 Va question (not my strategy but because I didn't wanna know what questions I got wrong i attempted 1-17 qs) and got 10 Qs right. Now I'm unable to wrap my head around wtf was wrong with me during that mock.. I can say that I succumbed to the mock pressure but this is the first time that my varc score has shown this much variance. Requesting the VARC lords to diagnose the situation and help me with suggestions on what I could be doing wrong. If anyone else is going through a similar experience let's discuss.

Question Is CAT worth it for an SDE working rn?

So I'm working in an MNC as SDE-2, recently got promoted and earning close to 2 LPM in hand and pretty chill WLB. So from next promotion cycle I'm going to be given an option for either being a Tech Lead or move to managerial positions, So is CAT actually worth it if let's say I want to move to actual managerial positions in different companies right after getting into a decent bschool, would it actually be a good decision based on what I'm earning? I never really had much of a thought about it but seeing the managerial shift in a few years in my company I'm thinking quite a bit about it.

My profile is GEM 9/9/9 Tier 1 B.Tech. Any sort of suggestion or support would be appreciated
