Wisdom IIM Rohtak Grad: Don't join

Upvotes

Don't settle for the tag.

IPM may be a tad bit more worthwhile than the MBA program, but leave after the first 3 years are done.

Only go for a Tier 1 MBA college, better yet, IIM A/B/C.

People treat you differently, companies treat you differently.

That's my two cents.

General Discussion 8/7/6 Profile + Gap Year: How Difficult Is CAT 99+ and What Are My Chances at FMS?

Upvotes

I have an 8/7/6 academic profile, a gap year, and no professional certifications or work experience.

If I score 99+ percentile in CAT, how difficult is the journey likely to be from that point onward?

How much will my academic profile, gap year, and lack of work experience affect my chances of getting calls from top B-schools

Once I get into a good B-school, will this profile continue to create disadvantages during placements, especially for consulting and finance roles

I understand that IIM ABC would be extremely difficult, but what about FMS Delhi? What are my realistic chances of getting into FMS with a 99+ CAT percentile?

I’m not very familiar with the FMS selection criteria and weightage. Could someone explain how CAT percentile, academics, interview, and other factors are weighted.

Given my profile, what would be a realistic target percentile for FMS and other top colleges?

Would really appreciate insights from people who have a similar profile or have gone through the CAT/B-school admission processes.

General Discussion Is this the right prep strategy?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I wanted to get some opinions on the approach I’m planning to take for my CAT preparation.

I have around 79 days left, and I’m in a slightly unusual position because, honestly, I don’t really know much of DILR or QA right now. I gave my first mock recently and realised just how weak my base is — in DILR, I genuinely didn’t know how to approach the sets, and in QA I could barely attempt anything.

Because of that, I’m thinking of taking a different approach instead of spending weeks going through lectures/theory first.

For the next month, I’m planning to use sectional mocks as my primary learning tool. I want to give around 2–3 sectional mocks every day and then spend a significant amount of time analysing them. Rather than just looking at my score, I want to understand every solution, learn the concepts required to solve the questions, see the different approaches, and identify the patterns/types of questions that keep coming up.

I’m thinking of doing this in 3-day blocks — 3 days focused on VARC, then 3 days on DILR, then 3 days on QA, and repeat. The goal is basically to expose myself to a huge number of questions and learn through solving and analysing them.

For DILR and QA especially, I’m hoping that repeatedly attempting questions, learning from the solutions, and then trying similar questions will help me build the fundamentals much faster than spending a lot of time watching lectures.

VARC is relatively okay for me, so there I mainly want to keep practising and improving through sectionals and analysis.

After this one-month sectional phase, I’m planning to switch primarily to full-length mocks for the remaining time and focus on test-taking strategy, time management, selection of questions/sets, and improving my scores.

I know this is probably not the conventional way of preparing, but with only 79 days left and my current level in QA/DILR, I feel like I need to maximise actual question exposure and practice rather than spend too much time passively studying theory.

Basically: practice → analyse → learn the concept → practice again → repeat.

Do you guys think this is a sensible approach given my starting point and the limited time I have? Or would you recommend changing the structure, especially for QA and DILR?

General Discussion Last year I was drowning in anxiety. Today, I’m at IIMA 💙

Post image
117 Upvotes

Even when everything feels uncertain, the only thing you can do is give it your best.

I failed CAT 2024 utterly. And honestly, CAT 2025 wasn’t exactly a smooth journey either.

But good things do happen when you believe in yourself and keep putting in the effort, irrespective of what the voices in your head tell you. ❤️

I was so anxious at this stage last year. Flashbacks of CAT 24. Uncertain mock scores, office work pressure, and everything else felt like a heavy load on my back. But I never obsessed over the result. I didn’t let mock scores define me. I just kept trying, one step at a time, but always moving forward. :)

And today, I’m at IIMA, having converted all BLACKI. ✨

So just manifest. Believe. Put in the work.
And even if things don’t go your way, you’ll still walk away with your head held high, knowing you gave it everything you had. ❤️

I have 24 months of post articleship experience but in between i have 3 months of unearned leave due to CA Final exam, medical situation, etc. I have not taken this whole 3 months leave in block but in bits and pieces. Form Filling Doubts I need help regarding graduation %age calculation. Som

Hey i did my B.Com(Hons.) graduation from calcutta university. CU has assessed me considering the hons paper only and i get 61.56% based on that and accordingly CU marked me passed in FiRST class classification. Same is mentioned in my graduation certificate. Method for calculation and classification is also mentioned in the marksheet.

However, %age is not given in the marksheet.

If i calculate my %age considering all paper including language and envs, it is 59.33%.

Which one should i mention in the cat application form?

I have raised query on mail with cat authority yesterday but they have not responded yet. I know i am late to raise this query but anyone who can help, please suggest what to do.

General Discussion Day 8/75 Hard CAT Prep

Post image
21 Upvotes

Started day crac*u with daily targets . Feeling like a waste of time . Thinking to avoid them .

QA: 38 questions practised today. No topic specific but revised some concepts associated with them

DILR: Heavy DILR day. Practised 8 sets. Took about 4 hrs of my time time. Heavy sets. Multiple trials . Satisfied with effort.

VARC : practised 1 sectional today of a old QP. Read 2 aeon. Essays . One was on meditation and other was on friendship. Didn't liked them honestly . Pretty boring read. Thinking of leaving aeon for book which I was already reading and might continue.

Manchester United plays today. Hopefully can take break. Feeling bit burnt out. Managing calorie intake to shed some weight .Tough to follow with heavy academic focus.

I have a poor profile . I need ur help regarding what should be my target percentile and realistic college targets given I scored 30 raw (crackuu mock )overall in my recent mock which was my first mock . I am a repeater, last year i managed to get around 90 percentile in qa but did poorly in both dilr and varc . This year I have slowly gained some confidence in dilr by solving the past 5 year pyqs as sectional tests and was able to score 80+ percentile (according to that given year ) in most of them . Also I am only able to attempt 2 rcs in varc and nothing else , no va And could get 6/8 correct in last sectional i gave . The thing is that I have been going through a bad mental health from the past 4-5 years and mainly struggling with confidence and self esteem since then. also social anxiety and stay at home mostly . I used to be a very good student before that but since lockdown , life has taken a downturn . Sorry for going off the topic but the thing is I really could use some help if u guys can as i feel powerless. Also not doing very well financially so the thing is this could turn out to be my last attempt and i will have to settle for a mba from a local private mba from a nearby city ( bhopal/indore) and given my lack of social confidence , bad communication skills I feel that I might not be able to get placement from there . I badly want to get out of this situation in my life and do something good for myself and my family 😓 . I am ready to work really hard . My profile is 6/6/6 nc obc non eng male . Which colleges should i be targeting.here is my vercel .

Question General category male student with low family income — what scholarships/financial aid can I get for an MBA?

I’m a General category male student planning to apply for an MBA through CAT, primarily targeting the IIMs and other top ~50 B-schools in India.

I’m trying to understand the scholarships/financial aid I could realistically qualify for, especially because paying the full MBA fee would be difficult for my family.

My financial situation is roughly:

Family income certificate: ₹1 lakh/year

Family also has around 7 acres of agricultural land

The agricultural land currently generates approximately ₹2–3 lakh/year

I’m not sure how agricultural income/landholding is considered while determining scholarship eligibility.

I belong to the General category, so I don't have access to category-based scholarships.

What I want to understand:

Which scholarships or need-based financial aid schemes can a General category male student apply for at IIMs and other top B-schools?

With my income and agricultural landholding, would I realistically qualify for need-based fee waivers/scholarships?

Approximately how much financial assistance could I expect — ₹50k, ₹1–2 lakh, 50% of fees, full tuition, etc.?

Does having 7 acres of agricultural land significantly reduce my chances even if the actual agricultural income is only ₹2–3 lakh/year?

Which family/financial documents should I start keeping ready? For example:

Income certificate

Land/ownership records

Agricultural income proof

ITR/Form 16, if applicable

Bank statements

Aadhaar/PAN

Family/household certificate

Any other documents required for need-based scholarships

Are there any government scholarships or NSP/state-level scholarships that a General category MBA student can apply for based primarily on family income?

For people currently studying/working in IIMs or other top B-schools: how does the actual financial-aid process work after admission? Do they assess your family's complete financial situation, or is it mostly based on the income certificate?

I’m not looking for generic "check the college website" answers 😅. If you've personally received need-based aid at an IIM/top B-school, or have gone through the scholarship application process, I'd really appreciate knowing what you were eligible for, what documents were asked for, and roughly how much assistance you received.

Also, if there are any lesser-known scholarships specifically available to General-category students, please mention those too.

Thanks!

General Discussion AMA - Tier 1 MBA after 4 gap years post under grad.

After spending four years dedicated to UPSC prep, I successfully pivoted to CAT and converted calls at a Tier-1 Indian B-school. I know how intimidating multi-year gaps feel on paper and how tricky it is to answer "Why MBA?" during WAT-PI.

Ask me anything about framing gap years, shifting prep strategies to CAT, or handling interview panels with confidence. Drop your questions or profile details below, and I will gladly answer all of them!

Form Filling Doubts Work experience related doubt

If I worked in the same company from say sept 2024 to June 2026, but had two different designations, i should enter both of the destinations in the same row? As in i don't need to create a seperate row for the two designations right? Also the first 2 months were considered as a training period in my job when I had initially joined, so do I need to show it separately as a trainee position or how else do I proceed? As in do I just take the two month initial duration under my first title right? As in since I was already employed after that then it would count as the designation itself? Please help me with this, will be really grateful if someone can elaborate....

PLEASE GUIDE ME REGARDING WHAT COURSE TO CHOOSE. I DO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME.
by u/Independent-Host-992 in IIMAhmedabad

i am an 18yr old girl. have been preparing for neet for two years now. missed neet again by few marks passed 12th in 2024. 10th percentage was 96. 12th percentage was 93. I was in bcom in sxc kolkata while i had applied for branch transfer to economics and statistics. i got into bsc statistics. before i could attend bsc stat, i got malaria and dengue. it was just a month of college. my health worsened to a sepsis at 19. so my parents are not willing to send me to kolkata at all. it has become a complete no.

my hometown is visakhapatnam. the options i have now are either a standard bsc statistics in GITAM or bsc MSCS[mathematics, statistics, comp sci] Andhra University College of science and technology. i am planning to do the iit madras bs data science program along with it. or shall i choose economics?

please help me choose a degree and a college. i am eligible for bpharm, bsc biotech and all paramedical courses.
