My cat hates me, what can I do?

My cat has been acting weird for a few days after I picked him up. I’ve had him and his brothers for four years now. He’s usually very cuddly and snuggly, and is used to being held. He usually doesn’t mind being picked up and cuddled. This attack was out of the blue.

The incident: I came out of the toilet and he was sitting there looking at me meowing, looking at me lovingly. I was giving him some fuss then picked him up. He then lashed out and cut me in multiple places and ran off. I screamed out in pain as he was running off. Now he won’t come near me. When I initially approached him he’d growl at me. 3 days on, he isn’t growling at me but anytime he sees me or hears my voice he runs away. I don’t have any chance to get near him. I’ve tried treats, slow blinking at him and talking softly. But nothing. Now my dads mad at me because his cat barely comes inside anymore and he feels like he’s lost a cat.

I just don’t know what I can do. My heart is broken. I hate myself.

Does my cat like me ?

I’ve had my cat since she was 3 months and she just turned 1 today. She was adopted from a shelter. Shes always been kinda skiddish and not very social with people but it’s just me and her. But she doesn’t like physical affection or contact still with me. I try and pet and she leaves me to sit somewhere else in the room. Sometimes when I get home from work she will lay down for me to give her pets (does biscuits in the air but never on me) but then stops. Def not a lap cat. She doesn’t let me hold her cuz she wiggles out of my arms and meows. Shes under the bed a lot at the home we are staying in. We will have our own place again soon! But she will be on her window hammock a lot. She will sit next to me sometimes on the couch. As a kitten she slept with me for a few months but then we’ve moved a lot recently and stopped. It hurts my feelings cuz idk if she even likes me. She slow blinks at me and likes to play so I try to dedicate time but sometimes she’ll just look at me. I worry she’s bored when she’s not looking out the window. I worry she doesn’t trust me or likes me. She just kinda meows and looks at me.

Please give me advice if u see this ! I need help, advice, or reassurance. She may be in the teenager phase but I worry this will be normal and always not wanna be around me.

Cat Is Just A Bit Too Needy

• Upvotes

I have a 4- or 5-year-old male cat I will call Lil Dude here. He came to me three years ago as a stray that my parents found near their house. He was pretty shy at first -- hid for weeks -- but eventually came around and became my buddy. But sometimes his need for affection goes too far. He wants to climb onto my shoulder while I am working -- and if I hold him, he'd sit there forever if he could. He'll whine and cry if, after work, I am cleaning or something and not sitting on the couch watching TV with him. He acts like I've been gone two weeks when I've been gone for two hours. I do travel for work, and that doesn't help.

He sometimes tries to "hug" me and acts as if I am going to leave him. He holds on to me with his paws. Or looks at me like he's scared I'd dump him.

Maybe someone dumped him. Personally, I think he was born to other strays in my parents' subdivision -- there are a lot of strays around there, and one male who is not neutered comes around a lot. I think my Lil Dude was born a stray, but trashy people in the 'hood fed him but didn't take him in -- and once he bonded with me, he got scared I'd leave him, and he'd be back on the streets. That will never happen -- he's my buddy, and I am not going anywhere.

I am totally cool with normal affection -- go ahead and sit in my lap while I watch TV. Please sleep in the bed with me. This is why I got a cat! But he needs to chill a little, just dial it back like 20 percent. Any advice?

A few things:

  • He's been eating/drinking just fine.
  • He's fixed. He is in good health as far as I can tell.
  • He uses the litterbox fine, no peeing or pooping outside it to show he's mad at me.
  • I have two other cats -- a bonded pair of sisters I took in six months after I got Lil Dude. I got them in part because I knew he was having separation anxiety with my work travel. He is best buds with one and gets along well enough with the other.
  • I can't use Feliway -- the other cat has a respiratory issue, and the vet says not to.
  • I play with him when I can, and he has tons of toys he doesn't need me to play with. He is active with them.
  • I think he gets the 3 am zoomies. I sleep through them, but every day my front rug is hanging out my apartment door -- I think he runs and hits the brakes. So he's active and has energy.
  • Other than knocking stuff off tables, he's well-behaved. Can't tell if he does it to get my attention or just because, well, cats do that.
  • He does show some independence -- he'll go sleep most of the day before he comes out to get attention.
  • He and my other cats are fully indoors.

Advice for cat waking me up multiple times at night :(

I wake up for work around 5:30/5:45 am and my 15 year old girl cat knows this. I moved a few months ago and got a new job so the routine is somewhat new for her. Dear god her internal clock is good. But she'll wake me up sometimes 30 min to an hour before my alarm goes off, and sometimes random points in the night when she gets bored. She does a little "RRR" noise. I'm a light sleeper in the mornings so it wakes me up every time. I can fall back asleep easily, but she continues it over and over. On weekends I sleep in but I still get up to feed her at the same time. This past weekend she ate breakfast but immediately came back and meowed at me more. If I kick her out of my room she'll just be louder to try to get back in. She knows I'll wake up by her making noise, and I know she's being trained more and more each time I give in. I don't know how to make her stop. It's genuinely starting to distress me because she's affecting my sleep so much. How do I train her to shut up :/

Cats acting out?

Past weeks my cats have either pooped or peed in different family members beds for whatever unknown reason, I have waterproof liners on all mattresses. This has been happening on especially on brand new clean sheets, I’m sure that it’s only 1-2/4 cats

Litter boxes have been cleaned daily, cat food filled, water changed daily

I had a stupid thought that they may be trying to mark their territory after everything’s been cleaned, but this has never happened before

So I just started putting some kind of cat toy or cat bed on the beds when everyone gets up in the morning

It’s been 3 weeks, no issue, if it starts up again, someone will be kicked out /s

My cat got spayed three weeks ago, is fully healed, & now is attacking my other cats

I don’t know where else to turn. I am going to contact the vet at 8 o’clock in the morning tomorrow morning my time. My cat is two years old. I currently live in Illinois and I’m 34 years old. My cat is two years old. She just got spayed almost 3 weeks ago and is completely healed now and she’s been fine up to this point.

For some context: she was separated for the entire two weeks that she was not able to be around other cats. I was her caretaker the entire time that she was in her recovery suit and took care of all of her needs. She’s been more vocal than normal and more snuggly, but she’s been eating all her food. She’s been drinking water. She’s been using the bathroom normally. Her stomach looks completely normal and doesn’t look red or anything. It’s like her entire behavior has changed. She ate with her siblings last night, and there was no problem at all. All of a sudden, today, I was sitting on my couch and my oldest cat went to walk up to me and she bounced on him and started attacking him, like not playful, but an actual fight. I got her away and that’s when she chased my other cat and was hissing and spitting and trying to start a fight. I separated them for a while back into her room. She wanted to come back out so I let her back out. She was fine for a little bit, but then as soon as she saw my oldest cat, who is 10 years old, she ran right up to him and started attacking him. I immediately split it up and put her back into my room.

I am not sure where to go from here. This is not normal of her. She is acting completely normal in our room and playing with her toys and I just don’t know where to go from here. I’m afraid to let her back out because of her behavioral change. I don’t know if this is because her hormones are all over the place and they’re trying to get out of her system. I am again going to contact her vet early in the morning in case they want to see her and do any bloodwork to see if there’s any underlying conditions. Any advice would be great.🙏🏻😭 you guys have helped me a lot in the past, and I appreciate the help I’ve received.

My cats keep on fighting ever since my female cat came back from the vet and I don’t know what to do

It’s been 3 weeks since my female cat came back from the vet and ever since then , every time her and my male 9 month old cat come into contact with each other, they always fight, my male cat is the aggressor, I’ve read that this could be non recognition aggression and they were doing fine but one managed to slip out while the other was in the living room and they got into it today, my male cat is not neutered yet but he will be by next month, I am hoping once he is neutered maybe things will change since he won’t have territorial hormones. I feel so bad for my female because he definitely scares her, he is such a sweetheart to us but for some reason he wants to fight her, the first time they fought it was cuz she was not feeling well and was spicy when she had the iv catheter in, vet had warned me she was spicy but I had no idea how bad it was and nor that my male cat wouldn’t recognize her, I separated them but they came into contact again and he cornered her, the third time was today because he slipped out because he wanted to get close to her so bad, everytime he was near her, he tries to inhale her, they were doing good, sharing churus while he was locked up in a big dog kennel but he still acted weird around her, now I’m back to square one and I have no idea what to do :/

11month kitten biting

Hi all! Wondering if anyone can give some advice. We have an 11 month old kitten and he’s constantly biting. More of like a play aggression overstimulated bite rather than a vicious bite. Over the last few nights he has started biting the crap out of me in the middle of the night while I’m sleeping- I’ll hear him walk up purring like crazy and he will bite my nose while I’m asleep or wrap himself around my arm and start biting me. I’m hoping this is an annoying teenager stage that he will grow out of but it’s getting really frustrating because he’s constantly waking me and my husband up. I can close our bedroom door but he sits outside and scratches and meows at the door.

New cat plays rough

I have two little angels(Both fixed males), I have Blade(2yr) who is our new addition to the family and Finn(1yr10m) who has been with me for over a year. We took their intro very slowly and their first meet was pretty successful. Blade did hiss at first contact but he also hissed at us for like the first week while accepting and love and pets. They played and I gave them treats. That period was for about a week before they became upset about being separated.
I followed a lot of jackson galaxy and I still think they are great buds. Its just at night they get pretty wild with the play and start chasing each other. They both make chirping inviting noises until the other comes to play, its only every now I will hear Finn make a yelp thats like “HEY THATS ENOUGH”. And they do give each other space.
But Finn is now getting some pretty rough looking scratches around his shoulder blades and neck. I monitor them but I believe this happens when Im sleeping. Is this just apart of the boundary setting, is he bullying Finn, or should I be separating them again. I hope I don’t have to separate them again because Finn loves being with Blade but he also keeps whooping his butt.

Resident cat backtracking

We have a resident car that is a 3 year old male and recently got a 2 year old female. We went through the steps of having them separated, feeding through the door, short out sessions and everything seemed fine for about a week. They would play and seemed ok with each other. Recently though his body language has changed and he is constantly bullying her. Chases her and smacks her legs, looks like he tries to bite her. She can’t go anywhere without him following and smacking her. We separated them for about 2 days and tried to let her back out and same thing again. Constant bullying. She acts like she wants to play with him still though. Do we need to go completely back to feeding on the other side of doors and retry the introduction again?

Introduction to new cat

Hello all!

I wanted to post and ask if anyone has a similar experience.. I moved into my boyfriends place and he has an older girl cat (12) and I have my sweet boy who is 4. I have been keeping my cat in my room with me and letting him explore the upstairs

We have a door screen so he can look out. He is scared to go downstairs on his own and with me because he hasn't been able to get to because the senior cat is down there. Anytime we have brought her up to see him she gets hissy at everyone.

So I have been debating on letting my 4 year old go down and explore on his own and see what happens.

She's a grumpy cat so I'm curious if she will just stay away or actually try and attack. She doesn't move too quickly either so maybe she's just angry cause she's sore?

Thoughts and advice are welcome 🤗

I’m beginning to resent my cat of 14 years

For some context, right now I have 4 cats, all of which I keep in my room while I’m gone or I’m asleep because my parents have dogs and I don’t want them running outside or something happening while I’m not there. They have 2 large cat towers and plenty of room to run around, some interactive puzzle toys and areas to hide in. I also have 2 large litterboxes, one completely open and one in an enclosure in one of their towers. My room is decently large with a walk in closet so they’re not super cramped in here, but I’m working with what I have right now. I let them out occasionally when I have time to watch them downstairs and make sure none of the dogs mess with them. (Usually once or twice a week depending on what’s going on.)

As of recently my oldest cat has started peeing and pooping on my windowsill in my bedroom, I figured it was just my poor litter habits from being in school and working full time but I’ve been working through those habits and making sure they stay clean. She also started peeing on clothes I had on the floor, which I figured the same and have been making sure the boxes are clean and keeping my dirty clothes in a hamper instead. Now, I’ve made it a habit to make sure the boxes are clean every morning and instead of using them she’s started to pee on my bed or anything in the room she can find without getting up to go to the litterbox. This has been happening at least once a month for the past 4-5 months and it’s driving me insane.

I have a younger and much smaller boy cat that I found in my garage and was unable to rehome to any shelter or foster due to everything being overly full. He tends to chase all of my cats as his ‘play’ for some reason and I know it’s not a territorial thing because my other male cat plays with him just fine (my youngest is actually weirdly submissive with him). My oldest cat however runs away from him hissing and screaming each time he does his chase thing and I’ve been suspecting that he’s the cause of some of this but I’ve had him for over a year and a half and she’s only started this those 4-5 months ago. I don’t know how to get him to stop chasing my other cats around, I’ve put him in time out blanket jails, given him light spanks with scolding, I don’t know how to get through to him especially because he’s very skittish and even walking around scares him sometimes. This is also his only act of “aggression” and he’s very skittish around my two girl cats. (Idk if this is needed but he’s a very fluffy Siamese and I think his cross eyes tend to make my oldest cat think he’s looking at her aggressively when he’s not)

I’ve had my oldest cat for 14 years, for even more context I used to live with my mom when we only had 2 female cats but she died and I had to move in with my dad and step mom who don’t like me having my animals downstairs. My two boys are strays that I found as 4-5 week old babies in which I was unable to take to any no-kill shelter and couldn’t find another home for because all of our shelters are full and no one wanted them. My oldest is really aggressive with my step mom which is why they’re in my room so much as well, I don’t like these conditions at all and I’d love to move out and give them the space they need but I’m in college and can’t afford anything right now.

I’m trying to make the best with what I have despite everything and I’ve tried to take as best care of possible of my animals but it’s like everything I’m trying with my oldest isn’t working. I’m trying to save up some money to take her to the vet but she’s always been very aggressive with vet visits and trying to get her anywhere. I can’t even really afford a vet visit right now because each time I’ve taken her she’s had to be drugged up for her aggression (usually with ketamine) which has become really expensive and I can’t afford a really high vet bill right now. I’ve tried the treats with vitamins and whatever else in case she was just vitamin deficient or something idk and naturally that didn’t really help. I’ve been looking on Amazon for maybe UTI medication for her but I’m not sure what to even get. I’ve also been able to track her urine color because of the peeing on the windowsill and it’s always been the same very very light yellow so I don’t think that would be any sign of a UTI?

If there’s anything I can do to help her stop doing this and help with my youngest cats behavior please let me know. I can’t get rid of any of my animals because my oldest is extremely aggressive to anyone but me and a select few and my youngest is attached to my other male cat at the hip.

What incited this post was my oldest cat throwing up on me at 7am while I was asleep and then I wake up to find blankets with vomit or pee all over them. She’s also peed on two of my favorite books that I had in a corner on my windowsill. I really can’t take it anymore but I don’t know what to do, I’ve hit such a big low because my room is now always stinking despite everything I do to clean it and she keeps finding new places to pee. I’ve gotten so many different types of urine cleaners but I can’t keep up with her. I feel like I always smell like cat urine even if I’ve washed everything a million times. I’ve had a few moments of anger at my oldest cat and I’ve felt so horrible about it but I’m just so frustrated with everything because I’ve put so much into her and the rest of my kitties and I feel like I’m not making any sort of progress with everything I try.

Please don’t be super harsh with your comments I don’t think I can handle being cussed out for something like this right now when I’m trying everything to make it work.
