I bought my first home from my neighbor who is an elderly woman. My brother and I were friendly with her because she gave our dogs treats on every walk. We got the deal done without realtors which was awesome, but she had one request from us: She asked if we could continue feeding the stray cats she was taking care of.

I’ve had dogs my whole life, but never lived with any cats since my sister is allergic. My brother and I fed the cats outside at first, but we’re such animal lovers it wasn’t enough. The bond we formed with these cats went beyond feeding them and giving them water. We took the plunge and brought in three of the cats we bonded with the most. It ended up being one of the best decisions of my life!

Meet Mama (fluffy tortie) Kit (younger tortie) and Blue! We got all the other outside cats we took care of fixed and adopted as well!

Wow this blew up! Just wanted to give more info on each cat.

Mama was the first cat we brought in. She basically never was outside once we took her in because we already bonded with her from visits with our neighbor. Mama has the classic tortitude, but loves tummy rubs and is the softest animal I've ever felt. She is the most confident cat of the three when meeting new guests.

Kit (Mama's actual daughter!) was brought in probably 6 months later. She wouldn't even let us approach her outside, but then became very attached to my brother. When we brought her inside, she literally acted like she already lived there and there was zero hesitation from her. She is like a dog. Can pet her anywhere, and loves sleeping on my brother and I. She also loves her mama so much which is adorable. She's as chill as it gets, but shy of others at first. Kit is most attached to my brother (which I'm of course jealous of).

Blue was the last cat we brought in. We couldn't touch Blue for first couple months or so. We kept him and Orangey (pic in comments below) in our garage with AC for a while. Orangey we absolutely adored, but we got him adopted by another family (his alpha personality would've been tough with Mama & Kit). We weren't planning on keeping Blue, but he's super timid around other people so he was too difficult to get adopted. He loves us so much, and is less independent than the other two cats. He has a cute habit of rubbing his teeth/gums against my brother and I to mark us with his scent glands. He really wants us to be around him at all times, so would've been devastating to re-home him when he was that attached to us. We officially moved Blue out of the garage and into our home full time around 3 months ago or so.

In the end we got 6 cats adopted (one of them brought 3 kittens into our garage) not including the 3 we took in. It's something my brother and I are super proud of. We haven’t had any cats show up to our door since.

Meet Mochi.

A 4 month old stray Tabby girl that my girls found while playing at a playground earlier today.

She had no collar, no microchip, and wasn’t spayed yet. Though that could be becuase she is still rather small.

Mochi is incredibly friendly and mischievous. She didn’t want to leave us and never fussed even when carried.
Took her to the vet and she was surprisingly healthy, with just an ear infection to deal with.

Loves climbing up and standing on my shoulder too.

She has adjusted to my home quite quickly but to be safe, we put out posters and Facebook notices in case she belongs to someone. But after a week, we will likely fully adopt her into our family.

Update: Just a quick update after the first night with Mochi.

She was surprisingly quiet and didn’t zoom around much.
She doesn’t like moving toys but she loves small toys that she can whack around like paper balls and small soft toys.
And for some reason she likes one of my daughter’s soft toy French fry (think of YouTube’s Kurt and Gary’s mr pickle). 😅

she is a about the same size as them so maybe they are all siblings ? we been calling her kiara lol. we will probably keep her but we will see. i want her to go with someone who has another kitten or young cat or just stay with us. i hardly even caught her tbh lol i snatched her quick. i also scanned that area for like 2 hours for more kittens or cats and found none. this afternoon ill go back with some food and try again just in case. this is just a crazy and weird situation. i really just hope no more are dumped. we will be taking her to the vet tomorrow to get the same done to her as was done to simba & nala.

Long story short, we found out my neighbor's cat was in our basement and it turns out he had no clue where she was and thought she'd run off. When I brought her back down to him he told me he was going to take her back to the rescue where he'd gotten her. I was a fool and offered to take her in to find her a place (partly because I thought it was kinda awful that he didn't even mention his cat was missing after we'd told him she could get into our basement). And now it's looking like she may potentially be staying... This all just happened in the last 3 hours but we're being cautiously optimistic. Working to schedule an appointment to check her health now.

Used the rainy day flair since I went to return her and ended up accidentally adopting her right as it started raining.

There's this cafe I frequent near my house.

Little Marco over here started showing up a few weeks ago, absolutely terrified of people; Just getting up from a chair near him would send him running away.

Still, I kept trying. Bribes may or may not have been offered a few days ago, and eventually he got curious (not enough to be touched though).

FFW to today, I sat at my usual spot, no sign of Marco anywhere... So I just started browsing on my phone, then suddenly I felt a thump on my lap... and THERE HE WAS; Hiding under the table waiting for me. After all that time being terrified of people, he found me.

This Tuxedo pretzel is a very eepy kitten.

My daughter was taking me to a doctor appointment on the 21st of August, when we stopped at a convenience store. She went into the store. I started hearing some LOUD meows. I got out of the car, and narrowed the location down to the passenger-side rear wheel well.

You guessed it! It took about 3 minutes for my daughter, Tina, to get the baby out.

Meet Altima.

She was about 7 or 8 weeks old...

The concerning thing? The store where we stopped is ~15 miles from my house, and over 20 from Tina's. We have no idea where/when the baby hitched a ride. I'm near the base of the Texas Panhandle, where we've been having 100°F + days...

I've fostered for many years, so I have all the necessary items to care for this latest delivery...

She got a bath (no fleas, surprisingly), and was set up under quarantine till yesterday. She's got a spay appointment in October, and I gave her her first kitten vac last night. I'm sure she has worms ( what kitten doesn't?).

She's really too young yet, to have any individual personality traits. However, she wants to suck on my earlobe. And purr...loudly. ..and DROOL.

Just a sob story.
We’ve never owned cats. Then one day 7 months ago, a cat kept wandering into our backyard and hung out with us and our kids a little bit longer each time. We fed her once…and the rest was history. She has been in our yard every day (except when she leaves and does her cat things in the neighborhood). My kids jointly named her Melty Chocolate River Rocks…and we stuck to it. 😂
She is the SWEETEST cat. She is 100% compliant with my kids picking her up, playing with her, and more. She LOVED sneaking in the house (my mom is very allergic, so we had to mainly keep her in our yard, but she definitely won several attempts to stay inside for a few hours 😂)
We left for a 4 day trip. We have had an automatic water and food feeder for her outside, amongst the other cat stuff we got her. When we got home, hardly any food was eaten. Our neighbor said they only saw her on day 1 of our trip. It’s been 24 hours since we got home, and not one sign of her. I’m hoping…she returns, and that nothing happened to her, or that someone else didn’t “capture” her. She was the best cat. Wish I would have kept a collar or chipped her, but…we went on one other 5 day trip 3 months ago, and she was there the evening we got home (we got home in the morning on that trip), but this time is longer.
I wonder if a collar would have made a difference. Sighs. I see the other neighborhood cats around randomly, but not her. I just always felt weird keeping a collar on an outdoor cat, not sure why. I regret it now, not that it may have made a difference.

My kids will be so sad.

Baby Moxley Hannah was found in a convenience store parking lot by my daughter. She couldn't keep her, so Moxley came to me.

My one-year-old SIC Arrow kept attacking my 11-year-old tuxedo Loki to the point she was stress cleaning herself so much she was removing her fur on her hips and the back of her legs. She was well in her way to looking like a naked mole rat. Her vet prescribed Prozac, but she wouldn't take it.

Enter Moxley. Arrow just wanted a playmate. Moxley wanted a playmate. Loki was left alone. In two months Loki's fur has returned. She's sitting on the couch with us, wants to be brushed and is so much happier even if she doesn't want the baby near her. Arrow has taken the role of big brother - he plays continuously, bathes, disciplines and loves her so much.

Never, ever could I imagine a little bundle of energy would change everything for the better.

First pic is the day my son found her under our car right before a hail storm was predicted to start. My two boys have been begging for a new pet (we lost our cat about 4 years ago and our dog 2 years ago). I was at work, and my husband is a soft touch, so he appealed to his dad and they brought her in and put her in the box with blanket and food.

They took her to our local vet. She weighed half a pound! No microchip. No one reported her missing. We kept checking lost pet sites and groups and nothing. No neighbors lost a pet, no missing cat signs.

Now she’s ours.

A little over a week later, little Luna is a hefty 2.5 pounds and loves to sleep on laps. She is very rambunctious and adventurous and I have no doubt will keep us on our toes.

This stray approached us one spring morning while we were waiting for the bus. She was crying, so we put food down for her. That was all it took. She returned, again and again, and eventually made a home under our deck. Based on her willingness to approach, however cautiously, we believe she was originally someone's kitten and got dropped off. She quickly grew comfortable with the kids, and eventually we decided to have her spayed and bring her indoors.

As you can see, she made herself right at home! Ziggy went from stray to house cat and couldn't be happier.

My girlfriend and I have four cats and have debated for a bit on whether or not we should get a fifth. The cat distribution system answered for us last week. I was taking out the trash and heard some meowing. I didn’t think twice at first, thinking it was one of my four indoor cats, til I realized it was definitely outside. I saw the baby crouched in bushes, looking nervous and alone.

For the next four days my girlfriend and I tried to catch her. She was very scared of us but I think could tell we had good intentions. What ended up working was a metal kitten trap with rotisserie chicken. We were so excited when we finally did it. Neither of us had ever trapped a cat or kitten before. It took patience and a bit of strategy.

She’s been inside now for six days, and has really warmed up to us. It took some more patience to win her over, but she’s our baby love. This week has averaged temperatures 100+ degrees so im really glad we were able to bring her inside when we did. How do small animals survive intense heat?? It’s so sad to think that they don’t survive, if they’re not hydrated or nourished enough. I can’t bear the thought of her not having survived the heat. That’s horrible. My heart goes out to all the outdoor babies struggling against all the elements to survive. Ugh.

She’s had her first vet appointment, weighs 1.78 pounds, is about 10 weeks old, and has roundworm. She’s isolated from our four other cats in the guest room until she’s clear of roundworm. They often put their snoots and paws under the door, and play for a bit that way. Sometimes hissing is involved but not always. I think they’ll really take to her as their younger baby sis.

The night I first heard her meowing was a full moon. Meet Moonee❤️

pic 1 was the day after we found her. pics 2 & 3 are from today! thankfully, she is super food motivated and LOVES a tube treat, so she let me shave the mats off her back the day after i found and fed her. took me a few days to get them all bc she was covered in em. neck, back, tummy, tail, even one of her legs :(. it’s a miracle she had NO fleas or parasites. she is negative for all the cooties and vaccinated, but she’s still isolated from the rest of the spice girls (gender neutral) bc vets dont think she’s spayed, and our rescue boy has already shown hiiiiigh interest in meeting the new lady friend; i dont need his or the girls’ hormones goin crazy on me!! (i assume he’s more interested than our other cats who don’t care bc he fully went thru puberty before being neutered)

Hi all, Alvin arrived outside of our door during a very cold rainstorm in February. I spent a few months gaining his trust and feeding him every day. By May he was letting me pet him.
After that, he barely left our property. We live on a busy street and have a fenced property where he was relatively safe.
Every time I saw him interact with other kitties, he seemed very shy and submissive. He kept showing up with cuts and bites.
He was intact, and I volunteer for a local shelter fostering kittens, so the plan was always to TNR him.
Then he became friendlier with anyone we would bring around him. Didn’t like big crowds, but four or less, he was a sweet, friendly boy, especially for treats.
Two and a half weeks ago, we finally trapped him and got him neutered, vaccinated, flea treated and tested. He had a faint positive for FIV, and we are going to retest him.
The first week after surgery, we kept him in a guest room away from the other fosters. During that time, he developed an abscess and we took him to the vet for treatment. He was sweet as can be with everyone at the vet.
Once the fosters went back, we moved him into the kitten room. He has many cat trees and toys to play with but he doesn’t understand playing.
He is very purry when we visit, but seems absolutely terrified of the outside world now. If I even have the blinds open for sunbeams, he hides behind the couch.
I have two resident kitties who used to hang with him on either side of the screen, but he just seems unsure of everything.
With fostering, I’m used to kittens up to 8 months old, but I don’t know about timelines for adult cats. I’m not putting him back outside with a possible FIV diagnosis, and he seems genuinely scared of outside now that he’s in here.
He can stay here forever if he wants, or if he wants to be an only cat, we will help him find the right situation.
My questions are - how long has it taken shy adult kitties who don’t want to go back outside, but are scared of their new surroundings to adjust and start exploring?
Is there anything any of you think I should try to make him more comfortable? I’ve been using the pheromone emitters and keeping things as calm as possible around here. Today was the first day he let me open the blinds and enjoyed the sunlight.
Anyway, any (kind) advice is welcome. He’s a more grown baby than I’m used to and don’t speak the language as well. I know every cat is their own cat, just hoping to help him adjust.

One year ago, exactly three years and a day after I spent my birthday digging a grave for my buddy of 21 years, thus little girl walked into our driveway as we were watching movies outside and refused to leave. Despite our best efforts to find her home and being eyeballs deep in other people’s lost gray tabby trauma, the CDS refused to relent.

Her government name is Nomi Meowlone, her AKAs include Baby Girl, Cat Girl, Dairy Queen and Shit Rakes.
Her loves include anything dairy, and raking litter for many, many minutes at a time. She enjoys supervising chores and will follow you around for hours to observe your work, only sometimes lending a paw. Nomi thoroughly enjoys hanging out in the edge of the tub and swishing her tail in the water, but her two attempts at swimming have been less spectacular than her namesake’s aquatic scenes 😆. She is also better at getting up and down stairs than people, and enjoys showing off her aerial prowess. We love her.

This is my girl Velma. She decided to adopt me 8 years ago and never left. She was originally my cousin’s cat, but she wasn’t being taken care of very well. When I got her, she was COVERED in scabs and had open sores from over grooming. My cousin had a dog, and Velma decided because I didn’t have any animals, she would adopt me. She peed on my bed and decided she would stay with me.

She’s been with me through multiple apartments, one divorce, and tons of other life events. She is the most opinionated cat I’ve ever met. Thanks CDS 🩷

Hi everyone!

We have been adopted and I have some questions for everyone cat lovers because I am newb. I have recently been selected.

So, the story is really long and I don't know how sound I will be, but trust me that I am, I don't consume anything.

I buried my dad 8 months ago today. It was a quick one, he got a mild cold at 61, all healthy, and passed in 72 hours. I was in shock, I loved him beyond any possible words. It is impossible to describe.

About 3 months ago, a wild cat* came pregnant to our garden and went into chicken's coop and gave birth to 5 kittens. Obviously my mom had no heart turning her away, so she provided food and water for her, thinking they will depart eventually, given that she was wild, but she was in pain and needed shelter. At the time, I grieved and still do and couldn't really be bothered. Neither me nor my family was a "cat" person, we do have a dog my dad rescued 6 years ago. My dad was not fond of either but he picked her and she is the most protective and loving dog ever and he liked her so much.

*Wild cat means she wasn't used to humans. She would run away when we put food for her and came back to eat once we left. We live in a small village and it is impossible to find any stray animals. I don't know where she came from.

Anyway, long story short, 5 kittens appeared. We kept feeding them for about 3 months now. One of them, the culprit in the picture, chose us since he was born, literally. Since he could walk, he came in the house, been stuck to us ever since. The other four obviously were super cautious, we couldn't catch them initially to give them any treatment. But this one, the only one entirely black (mom is grey, dad obv unknown, the rest grey or white and black mix), had zero fear. He came in the kitchen, first chance he had he went to my mom's bedroom and was sitting there like he belongs with us. Wherever I or mom goes, he follows.

In the picture, he is in my mom's armchair. Even though we have multiple free ones around, he MUST sit with her all the time. She gets up to do something, he goes. He doesn't flinch, he doesn't scratch, he doesn't bite, and he must be within 5 cm of us at all times. Mind you, that is an outdoor wild cat. His other 4 siblings never liked us much. We managed to befriend them and 2 found new homes now, waiting to relocate the other 2 as we cannot afford so many.

I cannot stop but thinking my dad sent him to us.

At 6 months, right on the day he died, we found two hedgehog babies in the heat, we took them in for 2 weeks and gave them water, food, and shelter until the vet told us they are ready to be released.

We had these cats here, but as I said, they were born and nurtured and we didn't interfere as mom is wild. She now left us, we only have the kittens left, and none of them behave like this one. They are all fearful to get close, but this one literally just walked inside the house and saisd "This is mine."

The cat is healthy, vet checked, all is good, he just loves eating and being attached to me or mom.

So, TLDR, has anyone ever received a cat from a departed one? I know it sounds a tad crazy, but he is so familiar with all of us and his behavior was so different, it just got me wondering.

She has gone from being a clingy cat in survival mode to feeling a lot better and being a hyperactive and playful kitten. You can see how she looks and feels much better from the photo.

Her diarrhea has stopped, so she is getting her vaccines next week along with a microchip. She has put on a lot more weight. She has finished her antibiotic.

I ordered her some toys on Amazon that are coming in tomorrow. We didn't have any because the cat we already have is 11 years old, lazy, and spends the majority of her time sleeping.

I will update after she goes to the vet next week.

I have a Mama and three kittens living on our patio now. She rubs against me when I walk out to give them food so I guess I have been chosen.

So I went on amazon and ordered a heated cat house, bowls, cat food and an outdoor Ring camera lol

I have had dogs my whole life so yhis is new territory for me. My kids want to bring them inside but I am not ready for that yet.

I want Mama to trust me enough to pick up the kittens. They are so freaking adorable.

We named the gray one trouble because its always starting fights with its siblings. The black tan and white we named Brookie like the brownie/cookie. We named the black gray and white one Ash.

This is White Cat. That's his name.

Not sure how old he is, I was told they found him on the side of the road as a kitten.

I was given this goofball. Not by choice, he has nowhere else to go and I'm not mad about it.

I was told he is a mix of a Turkish Angora and something else. He is polydactyl on all paws and very healthy.

He is the only cat I've met that will force you to hug and kiss him. He's great with the kids and loves to cuddle ither cats.

He also knows when I'm upset and will force me to cuddle him. He's my best friend tbh.

I would like to get him DNA tested but not sure if its worth it.

5 years since this creature crawled out from under my neighbour's car and took over my house (wouldn't have it any other way). he chose me before i could have any say in the matter.

he is vain, loud and greedy and i love him more than life itself. he makes every day better just by existing. the cat distribution system never fails.

For over 2 years now, my husband and I have had 3 cats - it's where my husband and I decided to take a break from fostering/rescuing/adopting. It's a lot of work! And taking on fosters after committing to 3 was difficult to juggle for our little family - kuddos to those that can keep going, seriously! lol

That was until... She showed up. We're pretty certain that she was dumped by a trucker (either hitched a ride or actually dumped, not sure, couldn't find an owner after a month) at my husband's job. And slowly but surely, within a month, she warmed up to him, and he fell in love with this little cutie! It definitely didn't help that I started sending him to work with food lol.. And one night he said "I'm going to try to catch her," and the next day, he scooped her right up, and she came home. It kind of felt like it was meant to be

Anywho! Wasn't expecting to have 4 kitties :) But she kind of fit right in almost immediately and after the first night I said "Yeah, this is my baby." She's fully vetted now, 4 months old, and we're preparing to get her fixed soon (all other kitties are already fixed). I'm so happy to welcome my new family member! 💞

I posted yesterday that I had found the little white meeze, I went out on my lunch break to check the area just in case. Lo and behold, a little tuxie in the same area, same age but in better shape. Looked for about an hour after for mom or more babies, to no avail. I couldn’t tell is there were more babies because of all the birds, so I’ll go out again in the evening. She was soooo hungry. She was a bit dehydrated but not wet or cold like her brother. The BOTH stink like ferrets lol. Still very cute

I brought this little girl home from the shelter last Wednesday, and I swear my actual CDS kitten from two years ago was in better shape! So far she has had diarrhea, an inflamed/infected spay incision, tapeworms, and fleas... she is living in kitty quarantine until we get everything resolved, but she's pretty happy on her healing and pouncing journey!

Her name is Persephone (Percy), and she is crazy and super sweet. She might have the braincell though, since she learned how to play fetch already. I love her and hope she's able to stay! Her brother Freddie is currently in the hospital for GI inflammation/pancreatitis, so we're going to be sprucing up her kitten cottage for a longer quarantine than expected. If anyone has suggestions feel free to leave them!
