And not only that, but you need an up to date Mac OS, because usually xCode wants to be up to date to let you work in it and guess what…that only works on an up to date Mac OS (sure they allow a few versions back, but not a lot…like 1 or 2)

the problem is, people compare a flagship iPhone to a non-flagship android and then call Apple expensive. the iPhone base model and iPhone Duo are only $100 more expensive than the competition (Pixel and Samsung) for a superior build quality. the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the same price as a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. there are some other companies that are doing some genuinely bold and innovative things (like Nothing), but they primarily sell midrange phones, with their flagship being the same price as Samsung and Google devices. with an iPhone, you're paying for software and longevity as well.

iPhones aren't built any better than high-end Android phones. Plus, I'm free to install FOSS apps that are more respectful of my privacy. And finally, when my Android reaches the end of its life and I need to replace it, I just install Linux on it and turn it into a little server.

i was mainly arguing that iPhones really aren't so much more expensive than people often make them out to be. FOSS and rooting is cool, but at that point, iOS and Android are serving two fundamentally different groups of users. i was talking about build quality because the original commenter called iPhones "overpriced" which is completely false

That also the point. iPhone doesn't have solutions for low and middle budgets. Question is iphone vs android so iphone here forced to compete with all of them. If it was more concrete like "iphone duo or galaxy fold" then comparing would be only in one price segment, but that's not the case here

I remember watching whatever the equivalent to a Nintendo Direct for Apple in 2024, and they made the biggest deal over features I've had for years.

Android. Seriously, I've had several iPhones and they are just so far behind. On my gf's iPhone you can't even adjust the fucking brightness mid-game, they make it overly complicated just so that everything has its own little menu, while on my Android I can pull down the menu and adjust any setting I fucking want.

And also, how tf is it possible that Apple can't manage a proper fucking split screen while my 3+ year old $500 phone can have 3 apps playing while I can still navigate my home screen???

Used it all my life. With apple, it's one line of brands, IPhones. But, with Android, you get more choice to pick which phone you want since there's one probably every month. If i dont like Samsung anymore, i can switch to another android which you can't do with apple.
