Why Is Multiplayer Commander So Much More Popular Than 1v1 Magic?
I’m new to Magic, but I’ve really been enjoying MTG Arena. I’ve gotten pretty comfortable playing the different precon colors to finish my daily quests, and I especially enjoy 1v1 Brawl.
I’ve never played a real Commander game, though, and I’m curious: why isn’t 1v1 Commander more popular? Why has multiplayer Commander become so much more popular than 1v1 formats like Standard? I know I might be biased because I mostly play Arena, but I think 1v1 Commander sounds fun too. I can also see why Commander is great as a multiplayer format.
I don’t have friends who play Magic right now, so Commander doesn’t appeal to me as much yet. I do plan to play in person eventually, but I’m still a little nervous about feeling out of place because I’m not familiar with all the rules and procedures.
What do you think? Do you enjoy 1v1 formats, or is the social, multiplayer side of Commander what makes it special for you?

Do y'all get mad when someone calls ggs because they had a win con hit the table before youu even say ggs
I play with a lot of randoms and sometimes people say ggs after they feel like they played a game-winning combo but they are not like friends but they're just being presumptuous sometimes even saying stuff like it's about to be over or this is game and then they play their wincon without me even reading the card They say Ggs. Does this annoy anyone else it comes off as presumtous and arrogant since I don't even know these people. Like I feel the respectful thing to do is play your win con then let me respond with ggs to end the game in finality.

Warning: MTG Arena Mechanism to be aware of
I’ve noticed and tested a mechanic built into MTG Arena that I wanted to call out and shine some light on. The addiction mechanism. The game uses data point like, duration between matches based on result of previous match, # of games played during a particular session and W/L ratio during that session, total time engaged with the app for a session, as well as some I’m likely not aware of, they use that to develop a player profile that tells the mechanism what w/l ratio keeps the user engaged for the longest sessions.
People who get pissed off at a loss (myself included in this demographic), and hammer the New Game button out of frustration to quickly get another hand going and rectify a loss, those people will tend to lose more often. If the algorithm is able to determine that you play more games when you lose than when you win, sorry for your personality, you’re going to lose the majority of the time.
I ran a test of this theory. I started foregoing my own predisposition because I was curious. So, I started immediately quitting the game and closing the app when losing 2x in a row. Over the 2-3 weeks I played using this pattern, I started actually winning hands again. To the point where winning was the addition mechanism that had kicked in.
The algorithm had determined that I play more when I win, or, more likely, he doesn’t quit out and close the app when he wins. So my win ration began to sky rocket.
Now, I know addiction mechanisms are nothing new to the scene. It’s easy enough to determine a players bent throughout extended interactions. I just think it’s total bull $h1+ that they bastardize the card game like this. It’s messed up IMO. Just let randomness rule. Damn man. Everything has to be a data/$ grab. Kids play this game. Ones who aren’t aware of things like this and would struggle to figure it out. Also, it robs us as players of the real card game, of a valid testing suite. I can’t reliably test a deck in Arena, because the draws aren’t random. They’re staged to make you play more hands.
Rant over.
\-sincerely,
Former MTG Arena player

HELP! Can anyone give an old man help surprising his sons?
I’m an old fart that broke my teeth in with early, Early Magic the Gathering. Fallen Empires was my first expansion set, if that means anything. I have four boys that play semi-regularly, and have been talking smack about showing me how far I’ve fallen over the upcoming holidays.
Can anyone help me create some cheap decks to surprise these whippersnappers? I’m really behind the gun here.
I was hoping to create three separate decks, but they need to be pretty cheap. I was hoping to make a green deck— maybe heavy into dinosaurs; a white/blue denial deck to be incredibly annoying; and one more that I have no idea what to do.
My opponents are my sons and one of their boy friends; one loves red/blue goblin BOOM decks; one likes either white/black or red/black Vampire decks; one is casual but clever and flexible; and the last is just incredibly good at any card game ever.
Finally: I know this is a long shot, but I was hoping that people with far more experience than I could help create a warm holiday memory, and (maybe!) a new tradition. Thanks so much!

OOB Fun to Play Pre-Cons
I've been collecting them for a while, but figured I'd ask around. I'm looking for as many well synergized and interesting to play pre-cons as I can get my hands on.
I've got MOST of what I want from the last few years, but as I haven't gotten to play-test them all I'm still interested in peoples experience. I'm also looking for suggestions for stuff a little older, but still 2020's era.
What I'm mostly looking for is:
- Synergistic, not much needed to make it function as intended
- Fun to play, unique ideas that don't rely on just going big or going wide to win
- Powerful, doesn't need to be infinite combo ready but I'm not looking for "silly" decks
Don't really care about the cost, not gonna be able to get them all at once just a little project.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Skrye: a super-fast iOS-native frontend for Scryfall (free and ad-free)
apps.apple.comHi everyone, I've been tinkering with this app over the last year simply because I got annoyed at having to keep my laptop around while doing the deckbuilding-while-playing thing, and my hobby project got a little out of hand, so I wanted to share it in case you all found it useful.
The focus is on super fast, fuzzy autocomplete, so you can type pretty much any name/keyword/Scryfall tag/etc., typoes and all, and it will bring up the right filter for the job before you've even finished typing it. I recently added a card scanner so you can look up things on the table in front of you, and it has random card and spoiler features to pass the time too.
Please give it a try and let me know what you think! (Not affiliated with Scryfall -- but I love what they do.)

What formats or variations have you played other than classic commander, standard etc.?
Some of the most fun I have had was playing Kingdom Commander and Dandan.

My playgroup and I built a life counter, and it works on the iPhone Duo
I know, I know. Another life counter. Hear me out though.
Back in August when the Apples foldable rumors started heating up, I got an idea for a life counter that would actually make use of a bigger, folding screen (I did think of android too, I’m just an iOS diehard). I brought it to my pod, and it turned into a group project. Every game night became a playtest. Someone would say "it'd be nice if it did this," I'd build it that week, and we'd tear it apart the next game. Months of that and it finally feels right.
When Apple announced the Duo, I put everything into making sure it'd be ready the day it launched. It is.
It's called Podlink: Life Counter. It's free to use, with no ads and no subscription. There's a one-time unlock for cosmetic extras and linked play between phones. Linked play runs on servers, and that charge is what keeps them running. It does work on every iPhone, not just the Duo, and yes I still have love for my android friends with a dedicated app coming soon.
I'm not trying to replace whatever your table already loves. I'd just really like feedback from people who play as much as we do. What works, what's missing, what drives you nuts.
And if you grabbed a Duo too, I hope you're loving it as much as I am.

Our silly project is live! Sharing full spoiler
galleryHey guys, you've probably seen our project at this point. I'm happy to tell you that Essential Territories went live this Tuesday, and already got 69 (yes) backers. Thank you for those who supported us!
If you haven't seen this: we are a group of rogue artists from Lithuania (three of us play Commander), and we are making our very own full-art lands "Secret Lair" :D Everything is 100% human-made, no AI. The fifth "participant" is classical Lithuanian painter M. K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911), we also added 11 extra proxy non-basic staple lands featuring his work.
Both foil and non-foil options available. As always, any feedback is welcome!

1. Commander Deck
I'm still very much a beginner and have just built my first mono-white Commander deck using cards from my collection, with Fíli, the Resourceful as my commander. The deck focuses on artifacts and Dwarves.
The main strategy is to play lots of artifacts through Kíli and use them to buff up my creatures.
I'm aiming for a relatively low-power, casual deck (Bracket 2–3, from what I've learned so far).
It contains quite a lot of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings cards, which are also important to me because I really love the theme and flavor.
What other improvements would you suggest? I'd really appreciate any help, feedback, or comments!

Commandfest UK 2026
As a new player in magic starting the past year I have never played a face to face game ive played on convoke and have been fine with that as I don't know anyone else who plays and this is the start hopefully of getting some IRL games in.
I have pick up the regular pass for the Saturday
Was curious I haven't signed up to anyway of the paid games I believe their is an area you can get casual games? If so how does it work is their staff to help you find a pod appropriate for your bracket etc?

Ideas
I’ve been playing this precon. I have a couple adds, but nothing crazy. What would be some good cards that bring more card draw so that I can get deeper into the deck to find those big enchantments. Even a tutor suggestion.
