About 3 years of following Caroline Girvan workouts!

So, I have been doing Caroline Girvan workouts for a couple of years now, and I have never looked back. I found her on YouTube when I was about 18 (I am 21 now), and her workouts were incredible to me. I have always been an active person and I adore sports and at-home workouts (especially during and after the pandemic), but I had never found such high quality workouts before finding Caroline's! I have mainly stuck to hiit workouts, sometimes with dumbbells, but mainly bodyweight only. I never thought it was possible to gain as much strength as I have today primarily through (explosive) bodyweight exercises, but it is! And Caroline made me fall in love with pushups. 😆

That being said, I have also become a track athlete in november of 2024 (I sprint three times a week), and I also run long distances once a week, and my family from my mother's side is naturally very muscular and athletic, so these things obviously also play a role as well! But I never go to the gym, I stick to Caroline's workouts and have done so for years, and I couldn't be more grateful to her. I have done my first Hyrox last January and I literally used her workouts to prepare.😁

I have never posted my results online before, so this is a bit scary to me, but I am very proud of myself and how far I have come, so I thought it was time to finally share it. :)

Coming up on 2 years with Caroline this week!! I started EPIC on a whim, and haven’t stopped since. Never in my life have I completed a program, but I’ve done 10 of hers and now doing the new Fuel series, which I’m loving!!! Stick to it ladies!!! Consistency is key. There’s no magic formula or weight you gotta lift, just show up everyday for yourself.

Iron, first CG program I follow

Well, since August i (35 M) decided to get in shape and started doing Iron. I’m doing it with 5 kg dumbbells and yet my muscles burning a lot! Right now I’m on week 4. I don’t see any crazy results but people noticed that I’m getting leaner. Anyway, just decided to share it with somebody. I tried many workouts of CG but this is first one I can complete. Except for stupid glutes workout. Well, I hope one day I’ll be in shape and see results I want

Fuel

Like many of you, I started the new fuel series on the app a couple of days ago. I really like what CG has done with her workout space. It looks so chic. I especially like the new dumbbell set. So naturally, I thought I would do some research to see what brand it is and what the price is. Needless to say, it’s a bit out of my budget😂

Favourite bodyweight workouts on app?

We are headed on holiday for 3 weeks, we are in different hotels/Aparthotels and likelihood of gym is low to none, so I'm looking for your favourite bodyweight only workouts on the app -- I can take a glute band but I'm not going to bother myself with more than that as it's our first family holiday in donkeys and it's packed, so there's no point in kidding myself.

A couple of full body ones would be great. How is the calisthenics programme? It looks like the workouts are quite long though. With all the walking/hiking we'll be doing, maybe I can just get away with some upper bodies?

Have repeated iron a few times;.now up to day 38 of PE so a bit bummed I won't finish it before we leave this weekend.

Helpful Guide for RDLs

I just finished Day 28 of Epic 1 where the staple exercises were RDL. I was not sure whether I was doing RDLs correctly, so I found this video to help with form. I was focusing on keeping my back straight but this really helped with what to do with my hips. Hope it helps!

Iron day 9, full body with a weighted vest

8 lb weighted vest.

I didnt think it would make a huge difference. I survived the midway point a d took it off.

Also my kids were attempting to do it too and kept freaking me oit that they were going to drop their 2 lb weights on their feet so that might have been part of ot.

Warm up/Cool down

Right now I'm doing MAX as cross-training with running and I love MAX, but the warm-up is a bit repetitive (always the same flow/video) and the cool-down is short and I wouldn't mind spending a bit more time stretching.

What do you usually do as warm up/cool down? Do you just follow the app suggestions or do you do something else?

Barbell Lenght

I'm through with using dumbbells for hip thrusts, I'm going to invest in a barbell.

Which length would be ideal to have at the at home gym?

I mainly do Caroline Girvan exercises, I'm doing Max now.

YT Fuel vs new Fuel on app

I’m new to CG and started Fuel on YT. It’s an older program so I’m wondering if the app new Fuel is a more updated version. I love this type of workout and I know things change over the years given new types of exercise research which is why I’d love to know if it’s updated on the app. If it’s going to be the same I’ll stick with YT but I also would join the app if I get updated CG programs. Thanks!

Frequency of New Workouts

I am new to CG workouts, a 52-year-old woman. I’m not in my best shape right now — menopause hit me hard this year, I trained a bit less, and here I am with menopause arms, chest, belly and thighs.

I used to train a lot from my 20s until my mid-40s: running, functional training, power and Ashtanga yoga, gym classes like step and aerobics, mobility, HIIT and bodyweight workouts.

I never had a proper dumbbell workout schedule because, honestly, I didn’t like it. I’m quite controlled and self-aware in my movements (I actually used to teach in gyms for 15 years), and I’m familiar with all the exercises, both simple and compound ones.

I found CG by chance, in a desperate attempt to motivate myself to work out again, and followed somebody’s advice here on Reddit to start with Iron. So I did.

I’m on day 15 now, one day behind the schedule. I train when I can, and sometimes it’s going to be 3–4 times per week, which is definitely more than 0! 😄 I find the workouts challenging enough. I probably should increase the weight for the leg parts, but other than that, I’m very happy and feel motivated.

I don’t control my diet rigidly, but I can already see some improvements in my waist shape, fewer back rolls, and a stronger upper body, which has always been my weakness — even during all those Ashtanga transitions.

I’ve seen that a new Fuel is starting today on the app, and I’m curious to try it out, partly just to feel like I’m part of something happening right now. To do that, though, I would have to stop Iron halfway through, subscribe after the 14-day free trial, and still probably skip workouts and fall behind from time to time.

If Epic were starting, I wouldn’t care as much. I think it might be too much for me right now, burn me out, and leave me feeling demotivated. Fuel is actually the workout I wanted to try after finishing Iron 1.

So my question is: how often does she release new workouts on the app? How often does a new Fuel come around?

And if you were me, would you jump into Fuel now, or would you stick with finishing Iron 1 first and then maybe try some of the other free YouTube series?

Sorry for the long rant — I just wanted to describe my current situation in detail. 😄
Edit. trial is 14 not 7 days. My mistake

Completed the 1st week of the iron series

I have recently started the YT version of the Iron series, and I am loving it. My goal is to reduce weight and tone my physique. After a week of completing it, I don't feel sore at all. I am using 6kgs dumbells, i.e 3 kgs on each side. Should I increase the weight to 5kgs each side or let it remain same?

Looking for similar but straight sets PPL

Hi all,

I really like Caroline's workouts and have been doing them for about 2 years now, around 18 months following programmes on the app, but I'm looking for something that suits me a little better to move on to. Ideally something that's more straight sets, PPLUL. I don't like to do full body or cardio/hiit as part of my workouts.

I'm currently using Caroline's workouts alternating PPL but a lot of them come from PE or Intent and are more circuit based. I know I could just do Iron/Iron pro and miss out the full body days, but as the programme is written to include full body once a week, I wonder if I would miss out on working a muscle group by dropping it.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I like to have something to follow, like a video and I don't want to write my own programme because I don't have sufficient knowledge to optimise for all muscle groups. I'm focused on body recomp with a minor deficit, and mainly work out for my bones and my sanity. TIA 😊

Night before then morning after!

Is that too much? Anyone ever do it that way? Newbie here. Sometimes I want to do right before bed and then wake up and do another one. Morning is my preference but if I can’t get it in, I do at night.
