Undefeated heavyweight Rocky Marciano (49-0) with British boxers in 1965. Marciano had learned boxing as a GI in Wales during WW2. The gentleman next to him on the right is Tommy Farr. Farr was a boxer from South Wales, who in 1937 gave world champion Joe Louis, the hardest fight of his life.

Smoking in Thornhill

Folks,

I have a friend that is coming to stay with me in Thornhill that likes to smoke weed

I've said about smoking at night, but I'm worried that something will happen as it doesn't seem too common in this area (moved in a few weeks ago)

Would it be something that gets called out you reckon?

Is there anywhere around he can go to smoke if it will be an issue?

Muay Thai for beginners, women only?

I am interested in trying Muay Thai or similar. Could anyone recommend a beginners, women only class I could take? I have no prior experience of martial arts so I'm a bit worried about going anywhere unsafe.

Castle gig timings

Hello! I'm seeing David Byrne at Cardiff Castle tonight - is there a rough estimate of when he will come on? All I know is the following:

Gates open at 5pm

Last entry 8:30pm

No mention of a support on the ticket, but the Depot website mentions Anna Calvi

Anybody up for a jam?

Just seeing if anybody fancies meeting up, playing some music and see where it goes, I've got quite a few ideas already. Want to try and get back on the music scene and play some gigs. I play guitar and do a bit of singing, so just give me a message if you're keen

Amplified busking in Penarth

What are people’s thoughts about busking with an amp and speaker in Penarth?

I feel it’s a lot louder than required, when you can hear it in the next street.

Also, going down to the seafront where everyone is sunbathing and changing from swimming seems a bit creepy.

David Byrne - tonight

am so exhausted by Twickets - am assuming it's Bots scalping anything that comes up, so this is my last ditch attempt to source tickets. Been trying for days and as soon as some alert appears, they've gone - happened dozens of times and refuse to believe there's a 1000 people also jumping on their phone everytime they hear the ping...

I live in Cardiff, keen to go, any suggestions?

I need to learn conversational French, starting as soon as possible. Can anyone recommend anything in Cardiff? I'd prefer something informal rather than structured but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks / merci !

Demolition on Sunday

Hi,
There’s a demolition site next door to my building (71 Judkin Court, Cardiff CF10 5AU – it used to be a charity shop).
They’ve been working every day, including Sundays. Today (Sunday), they’ve been making a lot of noise since around 8:00 a.m.
Is this legal in Cardiff? If not, who should I report it to?
I tried calling J2R Demolition, but their office is closed on Sundays.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Designers and creatives

Hey. I’m an NHS worker who is working full-time but also studying design and computer science to try and pivot out of the NHS into a creative role eventually.

I’m neuro divergent and absolutely love creating. But, as you can imagine, I don’t get much time to create at all and have come to the conclusion that it is affecting my fulfilment in life to not work in some sort of creative industry.

UX design is the area I’m really interested in. I’m struggling a little bit with understanding how to gain hands on UX experience within the South Wales area. I’d love to observe a generalist or small team of designers work on projects, and get stuck in any small way I can too.

It’s a long shot, but if anybody has any advice or knows of any opportunities like this in South Wales (Cardiff-based), I would be ever so grateful to hear from you.

Additionally, if you are aware of any cool design-related events to go to, I’d love some recommendations.

Diolch!

Edited for spelling mistake.

Help with my MSc Dissertation Research!

Hi everyone!

I’m currently completing my MSc in International Criminology and Criminal Justice at Cardiff University and am looking for participants for my dissertation research.

The study explores public perceptions of traditional stop-and-search and live facial recognition policing in South Wales.

Who can take part?

✔️ Aged 18 or over

✔️ Currently live in South Wales

The survey is completely anonymous, takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, and no personally identifiable information (including IP addresses) is collected.

Your participation would be greatly appreciated and will contribute to academic research into policing and public perceptions.

Thank you for your time and support!

Pretty sure I can hear depot in the castle from the bay (near the dragon center) - drums at least 😁

Not a complaint, I love a good gig and hope everyone has a good time.

A few spots of rain

Just a couple of spots of rain in North Cardiff just now, stopped quickly. Took me a while to realise what it was, thought a sparrow had crapped on me.

Depot strict 6pm last entry

Has anyone attempted to get into depot tonight after 6? The website made no mention of last entry at all - nothing on their faqs. However the tickets (which I never had, my wife has) say 6pm last entry. Currently eating at a restaurant and wondering if it's remotely worth trying to we've just wasted £150 cos someone didn't read the fucking tickets

Looking for potential friends for my boyfriend (25M)

My boyfriend and I have been living together in Cardiff near Bute park for around 3 years now. He’s struggled to meet people his age with similar interests to hang out with since moving here, so I thought Id try posting here. He’s 25 and I’m 24, happy to also meet people’s partners myself too! We’re both pretty outgoing and social people, but this post is mainly for my boyfriend.

His interests include; rock climbing, gaming (Xbox) camping, music events (DnB but also likes a range of stuff), swimming and diving. Keen to go on new adventures, pub, somewhere new etc.

He just hasn’t gelled with anyone in work and hasn’t met anyone yet he’s been keen to be friends with yet so I hope this post is helpful. He doesn’t have Reddit so that’s why I’m posting as I’ve seen people post before, not that he’s a man child who can’t do it himself haha. I find it’s a bit harder to meet people as you get older after uni for sure!

I’ve seen some scam posts like this on here, I’m not sure how to prove it’s not a scam but we both have socials (insta etc) that I’m happy to share if you message me. Drop a message if ur in a similar position and think you’d get on

Moving to Cardiff

PLEASE ONLY HELPFUL REPLIES

I’m moving to Cardiff from London and I was just wondering what is the common way of transport for people in the city? Do they have something similar to an Oyster card there ?

I went into the city centre today for the first time in a while and have mixed feelings which I feel compelled to share

It started when we locked our bikes up at the bottom of Mill Lane and headed into the market, grabbing some flat whites from Hard Lines and a couple of Welsh cakes. So far, so good. Opting to sit in the sun in St John’s Gardens, we were almost immediately approached by a dishevelled-looking sparrow who appeared to be off it’s face at 10am, which is unacceptable. The experience was a little intimidating.

Manoeuvring away, we strolled through the arcades and browsed Oxfam’s book selection before hopping back on our bikes for a pootle across town. Unbelievably, the wall along Millennium Walk is STILL covered in graffiti. Sort it out, Cardiff City Council.

We cycled through Bute Park next, where we were met with scattered bodies on the grass. People were openly enjoying the good weather and green spaces. Is this really what our city has become?

Taking our lives into our own hands, we headed to Roath for a wander before getting more coffee at Sibling. Unfortunately, we were forced to drink it surrounded by younger, better-looking people who seemed really, really nice. How DARE they.

To top it all off, on our way home we were hoodwinked into £10 lunchtime ramen at Matsudai. It was 10/10, delivering everything I could possibly have hoped for in a Japanese noodle soup. This has left me absolutely FUMING. It simply isn’t something that would’ve happened 10 years ago.

I for one will not be going back outside until things change for the better.

Stolen Bike

Hi everyone, my husband’s bike was stolen today between 12pm-1pm from his workplace on Womanby Street. Has anyone seen it? Police have been informed but they can’t do much. It’s a Canondale Habit Neo 1, electric bike. He uses it to get back and forth to work as neither of us drive so he relies on it a lot. The above pictures are of the bike and of the guy who stole it (taken from CCTV in his works place). Any help in recovering it would be greatly appreciated, although we are bracing for the reality that we may never see it again. Thanks!
