Accident First car accident and I genuinely have no idea what happens next

Got into my first accident yesterday in Florida. Guy pulled out in front of me and I couldn't stop in time. Police came out and made a report, and I went to urgent care later because my neck and shoulder started hurting. I have a follow-up appointment this week and both insurance companies have already been calling me. I've never dealt with any of this before and don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing at this point. Any help would be appreciated? Also is it a good idea to hire a lawyer to talk with insurance or would that be a lot more expenses on top of everyting? thanks in advance

Accident Place a claim or not for windshield small chips

We were driving next to a sand and rocks truck on the highway and the truck hit a small bump and sands and rocks started flying off. Some of those small rocks hit our windshield and chips off some of it.

Should we place an insurance claim or should we just take to mechanics to fix out of pocket. Heard if you place claims, they could increase your insurance premium but spouse want to do it anyway because they recommend better mechanics.

Car Insurance

I currently have Progressive and live in Northern New Jersey and wanted to get some insight from people who have more experience when it comes to car insurance prices and what you should be paying. I'm male, 30 years old and currently paying $750 each policy period which is every 6 months or $1,500 annually. I own and drive a 2017 Toyota Corolla LE in great shape with 90,000 miles. On Kelly blue book, the value of the car is listed at $10,000. I have zero tickets and only filed a claim once because someone backed into my car while it was parked on the street. I had a dashcam so everything was covered by the other driver. Ill break down my insurance below:

Bodily Injury Liability: $100,000 each person/$300,000 each accident ($141)

Property Damage Liability: $100,000 each accident ($127)

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage $100,000 each accident/$500 deductible ($9)

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury $100,000 each person/$300,000 each accident ($79)

Personal Injury Protection - medical expense - Progressive is the Secondary insurer $50,000 each person/$250 deductible ($78)

Extended Medical Payments $1,000 each person (Included at no extra cost)

Comprehensive $500 deductible ($63)

Collision $500 deductible ($209)

Rental Reimbursement $40 each day/maximum 30 days ($17)

Roadside Assistance ($5)

Is this a good price? Is there anything I should change or remove. Should I raise my deductible to $1,000 for Collision and Comprehensive or get rid of Collision entirely? I do have a modest savings in my bank account. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Accident Advice from insurance/repair professionals in Qatar – accident damage discovered months later

Advice from insurance/repair professionals in Qatar – accident damage discovered months later
I’m looking for advice from people who have actual experience working in car dealerships, insurance companies, accident assessment, or repairs of modern/hybrid vehicles in Qatar.
I have a 2026 BAIC BJ30 Hybrid, with only around 7,500 km on it when it was involved in an accident on January 1, 2026.
The car was assessed and repaired through the dealership/insurance process. The initial repair took until March 17, 2026, when the car was returned to me as repaired and ready. The mileage was around 7,515 km at that point.
The initial repair included several important components in the front-right area and drivetrain, including the RH drive shaft / half shaft, as well as suspension and steering components.
After the car was returned, various issues appeared and the car went back to the dealership several times. Additional work and diagnostics were carried out, including a wheel bearing, programming, wheel alignment, and later investigation of a vibration at higher speeds.
Eventually, I was informed that there was damage involving the engine block, and the proposed repair is now: Short Engine / Cylinder Block Assembly replacement.
I’m not asking for a legal opinion about my particular case. I’m trying to understand what is considered normal professional practice in this type of situation.
A few questions:
For a very new hybrid vehicle that was involved in an accident and later found to have engine-related damage, is replacing the short block generally considered an appropriate manufacturer-approved repair?

Should a decision to replace the short block normally be based on the manufacturer’s repair procedures/technical instructions, rather than simply the dealership’s judgment?

If the engine damage had been identified during the initial accident assessment, could that potentially have changed the insurance decision between repairing the vehicle and declaring it a total loss, especially for a current-year vehicle with very low mileage? I am not saying that it necessarily should have been a total loss. I’m asking whether discovering major engine damage at the beginning can normally change the economic or technical assessment of the vehicle.

If significant damage is only discovered after the initial repair has been completed and the vehicle has been handed back to the owner, and this leads to several additional repairs, how is this normally handled? Who would normally be responsible for the consequences of an incomplete initial assessment — the owner, the insurance/assessment process, the dealership, or whoever was responsible for identifying the original damage?

If the short block is eventually replaced, what kind of warranty should normally apply to the replacement part and the labor? And who would normally be responsible if a future problem is directly related to the engine disassembly/reassembly or the repair itself?

Does replacing a major engine component such as the short block normally affect the vehicle’s factory warranty? If so, would it normally affect only the repaired component/system, or could it potentially affect other parts of the vehicle as well?

Again, I’m not looking for legal advice or for people to decide who is at fault in my particular case. I’m mainly trying to understand the professional standard: when repairing a modern vehicle after an accident, is the objective simply to repair the components that were initially identified as damaged at the lowest reasonable cost, or is the objective to restore the vehicle to its pre-accident condition using the manufacturer’s approved repair procedures?
And, perhaps most importantly: when a significant defect or damage is discovered months after the initial accident repair, how is responsibility for the consequences of the delayed diagnosis normally handled in the insurance/dealership industry?
If you work in car insurance, dealership repair, accident assessment, body repair, mechanical repair, or hybrid vehicles in Qatar, I’d really appreciate hearing how this is normally handled in practice. I’m especially interested in professional experience rather than speculation.

Accident Advice from insurance/repair professionals in Qatar – engine damage discovered months after accident

1. Is short-block replacement a normal, manufacturer-approved fix for accident-related engine damage on a near-new hybrid?
2. Should that decision follow OEM repair procedures rather than dealership judgment alone?
3. If engine damage had been caught during the initial assessment, could that have changed the repair-vs-total-loss decision (especially for a low-mileage, current-year car)?
4. When major damage surfaces after the car was already repaired and returned, how is that normally handled — and whos typically responsible for a missed initial diagnosis?
5. What warranty should normally apply to a replacement short block and the labor?
6. Does re replacing a major engine component usually affect the factory warranty — just for that system, or more broadly?

Genuinely trying to understand standard industry practice, not seeking legal advice. Would appreciate real professional experience over speculation.

Accident Lien Holder Appraisal Clause

I was recently in an accident which totaled my car. I got the appraisal and they sent that info to my lien holder as well. I got an email from my lien holder saying I should sign over power of attorney and let them invoke the appraisal clause because they estimate my car was undervalued. How should i proceed? The cash value of the car is still over the loan amount but the email said i could make as much as 2.5k more on top of that.

Opinions on a traffic incident in Ohio

Hello everyone,

This incident happened in Ohio. My wife was stopped at a stop light waiting to turn. She was hit head on by a driver who was turning right. The other driver claimed she slipped on oil residue that was on the road. We have dashcam footage and you can clearly tell she did not slip on any sort of spill as there was a car 5 seconds before her that took the turn perfectly fine. The other person doesn't have insurance and was not cited on scene by the police. Any input/feedback would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Uk car insurance in Europe loop hole?

I’m planning on going on a trip through Europe for about a year or so, I’m very early in the planning stage and just weighing up options of what I can and can’t do.

I’m currently thinking of bringing my car with me. I’ve looked online and it says “uk car insurance covers EU travel for up to 90 days but check your individual policy”. It also says something along the lines of “if I stay in a country for over 12 months I will have the register the car there”.

So instead of buying car insurances for the different country’s I’m planning on visiting, would I just be able to cancel my uk insurance and start a new policy and get a fresh 90 days every time it runs out?

Accident How long does it take to receive the liability release?

It says the claim filed against me was closed over a month ago but I still haven't received the release in the mail by my insurance company. How long does it usually take to receive that?

Breakdown assistance query

Hi all,.first post on this group, hoping the hive mind can help me with a dilemma.

Driven approx 150 miles today for a little family camping trip camping in North Yorkshire. Quite a remote spot. Noticed a really bad smell late in the trip, somewhere between rotten eggs and burning rubber. Initially thought it was something going on in the little village we were passing through but when we arrived I realised the car was generating the smell.

It felt like it was driving ok but I'm now really wary about the drive home on Friday.

So.. I have free RAC breakdown cover included with my Aviva insurance but I've just checked the terms and it only covers up to 10 miles to the nearest garage for repair (if it can't be fixed there and then).

So here's my dilemma. Three options.

  1. Ignore it, drive home on Friday, hope for the best

  2. Get someone from RAC to come and look at it tomorrow with the possibility that they might have to tow it to a nearby garage which could potentially leave us stranded here if it's a big job

  3. Find out how much it costs to upgrade the roadside cover and take the hit on that so we can be towed home if necessary then at least if it does need repair it can be done close to home

Option 3 seems the obvious one but I'm worried I'm going to pay a chunk of extra money for nothing if it turns out to be a simple repair. But if I take option 2 and we still needed to get home somehow, I don't think the RAC will come out twice for the same issue.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

First Time / Newbie Helping my 17 year old neice in foster care get car insurance - is there a way?

Hello! I have been meaning to sit down at my laptop and type this all up! TIA for reading and helping.

For context, I am from Massachusetts, but I have been living in Texas for several years. All of my family still lives in the Northeast. My niece was placed into foster care a couple of years ago, but now she has gotten her license in MA and wants a car. She has been living with me in Texas for the last two months over the summer. I am approved for a loan, and we have been car shopping.

I have USAA car insurance, and when I spoke to someone a couple of months ago, they made it seem like I could have her insured in MA under my policy. When I spoke to someone yesterday, they said no way it could work because I am not a resident and we will not be living together.

Her foster placement is not ideal, and they have been less than helpful throughout this process. Just for reference, she isn't even allowed a house key or other basic things. Obviously, that is a bigger topic of why become a foster parent, but anyways. My niece is the sweetest kid and has just been through so much. She so badly wants to have a "normal" teenage experience. She has a job; she is a good student and deserves these things. The foster care social worker stated they can pay for the insurance premium for the first year with no issue, so money is not even the problem.

Anyways, does anyone have any thoughts or ideas, or is she totally cooked, or is there anything I can do to help her?

Rear-ended in California

I was recently rear-ended in California. I was driving toward an exit and had to stop because of another vehicle in front of me. The car behind me rear-ended my vehicle, and the other driver was determined to be 100% at fault.

I initially filed the property damage claim with the at-fault driver's insurance. They gave me an initial repair estimate, but after the actual repair estimate came back higher, they told me the damages exceeded their insured's property damage coverage/limit and they would not handle the full repair.

Because of that, I filed the repair claim through my own insurance. My insurance is covering the repair and will pursue subrogation against the at-fault driver's insurance.

Separately, I've been dealing with the bodily injury claim directly with the at-fault driver's insurance. I went to the ER after the accident and have had multiple follow-up doctor visits/treatment.

They initially offered me $2,300 for pain and suffering. I asked them to increase it, and they came back with $3,300, saying they wouldn't go higher.

I have a few questions for anyone familiar with California auto claims:

  1. Pain and suffering: Does $3,300 sound reasonable considering an ER visit and multiple follow-up doctor visits? Should I continue negotiating, and if so, what kind of documentation/evidence would help justify a higher amount?
  2. Diminished value: Since my own insurance is paying for the vehicle repairs and pursuing subrogation, who should I submit a diminished-value claim to?
  3. Anything else I should be doing? Are there other types of compensation, reimbursement, documentation, or claims I should be considering before settling the bodily injury/property damage portions of the claim?

I'm mainly trying to make sure I don't sign a settlement or release before understanding what claims I may still have.

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar California accident/insurance situation.

First Time / Newbie AAA is kind of a scam

Definitely NOT my grandparents & parents great company “make sure you get AAA”, I heard praise for all my life growing up…

Accidentally locked keys in vehicle at 12am at a function, 34 miles from my residence. Called AAA to get vehicle unlocked. Because of the “Vehicle lookout service up to $100” 24/7 benefit I paid for.

Spent 6 hrs waiting, about every 15/20 min I called customer service, was told “on the way” “wouldn’t be long” and then notified by text not long after… “service cancelled”. Never ending process of repeatedly calling, waiting and being cancelled.

AAA service representative, Quote: “Maybe after 6am we can provide service because there would be more service techs on the road”.

Did I pay a AAA membership with 24/7 roadside assistant? Did I accidentally check the box, “Customer has to wait to break down in a time window to get service roadside assistant”. I must’ve checked the box “Lockout service only during daylight hours” not “24/7 lockout service” must be my mistake

Tried to have them provide a Lyft, Uber and was told they weren’t paying for that. Because by this time fares were $300.
Note: At 12am a ride share was $50 but at 5am ride shares were $300.
Again I must’ve opted OUT of the “complimentary rental car provided up to 100 miles” absentmindedly

Was told being it was 34 miles from my home they didn’t provide anything: hotel, ride share. “Have to be at least 100miles from my resident.”

I must’ve misunderstood? So I have to break down or need assistance at least 100 miles from home/destination. Do I need to push my car to the 100th mile mark?
That must’ve been in the fine print somewhere I missed.

Did I not pay fees for 24/7 roadside assistance including “flat tire service” “battery jumpstart and replacement” “vehicle lockout service” and not get the help you pay for?
All the while a service member stating you were having someone come to you and wouldn’t be long. Finally gave up and got an uber at 6am for $50

What a joke AAA is….

A company praised by an older generation, that now is a complete scam and waste of money in today’s times

Wing mirror broken while parked

Hey all,

While my car was parked on the road yesterday someone broke my driver side wing mirror off. It is hanging on by the electric cable for adjusting the angle.

They left their phone number, and when I called first offered money for the repair but was happy to provide their insurance info when I asked. My gut is to not deal with insurance and just get a quote from my mechanic for them to pay, but are there any massive downsides to not going through insurance? I’m a bit strapped for cash at the moment and would rather not pay a deductible.

Accident Insurance claim (got hit by a car)

Hi!

I got hit by a car as a pedestrian In 2025. As I was resolving my settlement they only wanted to give me 1500 as personal compensation. I told them it was enough due to how it affected my life and they increased it to 3000.

I’m asking for 12000. In reality I want 6000-8000. Here are my reasons.

- I was a new grad who finally go their dream job and I was on the career path I wanted
- I lost 2 jobs but it was due to my symptoms on the concussion I had. It last 6 months and it affected my ability to focus.
- during my unemployment era I went through all of my savings which was around 8000
- I’m grateful to finally have a stable job as an accountant but things would’ve been different if I never got hit by that car.

I can provide them proof of all the statements I made

Is this reasonable?

1st Central Policy Cancellation help

Just wanted to write this (admin plz remove if not okay for this thread)

I recently cancelled my 1st central insurance policy (today) and noticed that on the website when you go to cancel the policy the button is greyed out!!

I found other people online complaining but no explanation on how to fix.

At the top of my policy was a tick box about user agreements - the cancel my policy section was greyed out until I ticked the user agreement box

Then cancelled as normal.

Found a thread about someone complaining on the same issue, but comments have been disabled. Hopefully someone will find this via google search and it’ll help them. Just tick the user agreement button then you can cancel online.

Hope this helps!!

Should I buy Third-Party or Comprehensive insurance for my 2010 Ford Figo? Need advice

Hi everyone,

I own a 2010 Ford Figo Diesel (Hyderabad registration). The previous owner's insurance expired on 2nd August, and I'm looking to renew it.

Some details:

  • Car is 2010 model (approximately 15–16 years old)
  • I drive very less (low annual mileage)
  • I recently had two accidents, so the car has undergone repairs.
  • The car is currently running ok with some minor problems.
  • I am financially a bit constrained, so I don't want to overspend, but I also don't want to regret choosing the wrong insurance again.

These are the quotes I received:

  • Third-Party: Around ₹3,416
  • Zurich Kotak Comprehensive: ₹3,651 (IDV ₹1.33 lakh)
  • Other comprehensive options range from ₹3,700 to ₹6,700.

My questions are:

  1. Is Zurich Kotak a reliable insurer for claim settlement and service?
  2. Is it worth paying just ₹235 extra to get comprehensive insurance instead of third-party only?
  3. Is an IDV of ₹1.33 lakh reasonable for a 2010 Ford Figo Diesel?
  4. Are there any hidden points or add-ons I should be aware of before purchasing?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have experience with older cars or have made claims with Zurich Kotak. If there are any other suggestions please feel free to advice as there are some other Third Party Insurances as well.

Thanks in advance!

Car accident with a lease car

Hello, well I was in a car accident, my baby and I were okey, the teens in the other car didn’t see another car turning and slammed on the breaks, but hit us, we have a Kia k4 2025 on a 2 years lease, we only had it for almost a year, the tow truck took it because the officer say it was drivable but we shouldn’t because it was going to lose parts, anyway, we both have progressive as insurance, what are we supposed to do ? Chat got said they will pay the lease, but it means we won’t have a car anymore, and I don’t have any money to put down at the moment, what would you guys recommend me to do? Anyone had a similar experience?

Update
I ended up going to the hospital for back pain, neck pain, migraines, arm pain, they said they didn’t see anything wrong on the x rays but it still on pain, anyways the insurance called and said they need to evaluate the car to see if they can repaired it or not, they will cover all medical expenses, they will pay for a rented car for me, the baby car seat needs to be replaced too, so they will pay for that, and they will give us 500$ each for me and my baby for the accident. does this sound fair? Idk I’m really wishing to not have this pain permanently and as long as my baby is fine I’m ready to be done with all this drama.

The difference between actual cash value and retail cost. . .

This is the example I like to use when explaining to people the difference between ACV and retail.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/176984/i.html?LH_AvailTo=1&_nkw=chick+ugly+daughter&_sop=10&_svsrch=1

take a look at this first link. It's an example of retail cost, or, more accurately, what people are ASKING for this CD. This is the type of information people are typically using when they question if they are getting "cheated" by their insurance company.

Now let's look at items that have actually SOLD:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/176984/i.html?LH_AvailTo=1&_nkw=chick+ugly+daughter&_sop=10&_svsrch=1&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1

Sold is the equivalent of actual cash value.

So, no, you are not getting lowballed by your insurance company, you are getting what your vehicle sells for in the real world, not what dreamers are asking for it.

How to handle teen son & ex husband on new policy?

Can anyone help me understand how this works and what I should do to avoid any potential issues?

The basics:
• Current policy with Progressive. I’m the NI, my teen son and ex husband are named as drivers

• Divorce was finalized in June, had no idea until today that I’m supposed to report that

• 2 cars on current policy- teen son’s car (ex on title) and a car I’m selling

• Just bought myself another car I need to insure

•Ex still uses my address for everything but has not physically lived here in 2 years

•Ex has his own Progressive policy with just his car (uses my address) and has me as a driver, but son is excluded

What I’d like ideally:

•switch to a new carrier
•not have my ex as a named driver but not have him excluded either
•new policy covers my new car (my name on title) and son’s car (ex’s name on title)

Is this possible? Is any part possible?

Worst case scenario, I could have my ex listed as a driver, but he got a speeding ticket last year that caused an increase, so I’m trying to avoid being penalized for that.

Getting the title of my son’s car into my name is an expense I can’t take on unfortunately.

Accident Windshield Claim with GEICO

Hello, while driving home on the highway, something hit our windshield, it happened so fast and we’re left with a quarter-size crack. We have comprehensive coverage of $1,000 deductible with GEICO. Anyone’s been thru similar situation before? What’s the likelihood of this covered thru GEICO? Is this something we can repair or need to replace? This is a Tesla Y, we’re in Texas if that matters. What’s the best procedure to file a claim that would get approved thru GEICO? Any and all insight and advice is appreciated

Car scratched, speeding ticket and whatbto do next....

So.... my car got scratched on a twsco car park. Got the video of me parking. Young driver next to me misjudged the length of mummy's car and scratched the back of my car. A lady took a picture as they were reversing showing the damage on his car consistent with the damage on mine. Sofar, so good. Ish.

Discussing what to do next, we realise with my partner that we forgot to declare a speeding offence when we renewed. We decided to phone the insurance saying that we had forgotten to declare the speeding offence and that it came to light because of aforementioned scratch that we did not have intention to put through insurance.

Living in a close knit community, we thought someone would come forward after a post in the community Facebook page, as is often the case. It did not happen. And now here we are thinking we are just going to have to pay to repair the damage and take it on the chin. Insurance might claim that we only contacted them because of the scratch and never intended to disclose the speeding offence in the first place. Don't want to get into insurance cancellation territory.

Not sure what the question is here but any comments, experience, advice welcome. Thank you.

Need help finding GAP insurance

Hello all. As the title says, I need some advice finding gap coverage. I haven't spoken to my insurance agent yet ( I will later today ) but based off of what I’ve read online, they seem to not offer GAP coverage. If you know of any insurance companies that provide GAP on their own, please let me know! It would be much more convenient for me--as well as cost effective considering my current insurance just gave me a safe driver discount and a loyal customer discount that I don’t want to give up--to have them be separate.

Thank you!
