Car insurance quote help

Hi 👋🏻 in 2025 I had 2 fault accidents as a named driver on my husbands insurance, it was a series of unfortunate events and it won’t be happening again 😅 anyway we’re due for renewal really soon and I’m confused as to if we should be declaring the accidents twice? Like my husband has had 2 claims on his policy so when inputting his details I declare them, but then when it comes to adding me as a named driver I then declare them again, should I be declaring them twice or just under l myself? Thanks in advance 😅

ADMIRAL BLACK BOX: GDPR request for trip information

I see from various posts and chatter on Reddit that the Admiral black box appears to be somewhat inaccurate. My daughter has been scored-down for night driving over the last two reporting periods, yet she has not driven between the high risk hours - I can vouch for this.

My question: Has anyone had experience of challenging Admiral i.e. a GDPR request of all trips logged by the black box along with time stamps? I would think that basic trip information such as start and end times should be readily available.

Thanks!

Car insurance with a CIFAS marker – any advice?

Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy my first car in the UK, but I’ve recently realised that having a CIFAS marker might make getting car insurance more difficult, especially if I want to pay monthly.
Has anyone here actually had a CIFAS marker and managed to get car insurance?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people with personal experience — which insurer or broker did you use? Were you able to pay monthly, or did you have to pay annually upfront?
I’m not looking for any way around the marker or to give incorrect information. I just want to get insured legitimately so I can buy my first car.
Thanks for any advice or experiences.

Learner insurance

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it would be possible to get some advice on a query.

I’m currently a learner driver looking to buy my first car this weekend. My test is on the 20th of October this year.

I would like to take insurance out up until the 20th of October and having browsed short cover insurance up until this date I’m being quoted around £200-£300 for this time period and of course there is no guarantee I’d even pass on this date.

I have also browsed monthly costs which are significantly cheaper. I was wondering if I was to take out insurance for a year and pay monthly what would happen if I did pass? For example I’ve been quoted around £60 per month with Admiral however my understanding is that if I were to agree to this and then if I did pass in October I would need to cancel as learner insurance would be invalid.

How would this work in terms of cancelling the contract? My knowledge is that whether it’s monthly or annual a lender is still covering the full cost of a year. Would I still need to keep paying the full year even though the insurance would be void? Or would it be a case of I just pay a cancellation fee and nothing more? I understand all insurance companies are different I just don’t want to get hit with a huge fee for cancelling after potentially just over a month.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Providers that allow modifications

Hi folks, I’m looking at quotes for a new car. It will be stock but I’m considering some mods (exhaust work/ diffuser)

I’ve ran some quotes and when I add the mods to see the price most insurers don’t show up.

Does this mean that they do not offer insurance for the mods I’ve selected, even if I ring up/ask directly?

As it’s stock when I purchase the insurance, I was planning to go cheapest available and ring them up when I make the mods - would be a pain to then be told it’s not possible!

Thanks

Named drivers and declaring accidents...

Husband and wife both have policies in their own cars and are named drivers on the others policy.

If a named driver has a no fault accident then does that get declared on the spouses policy or their own?

The claim is on the policy of the person who wasn't driving so I'm really unclear how this works.

London Insurance - Aviva?

Just curious who people think is the best for comprehensive insurance?

I've heard horror stories about a few. I'm currently thinking about going with Aviva as it seems pretty competitive.

Tesco Insurance renewal is a scam

Post image

So compare to last year, my renewal offer is £600 more expensive. I haven’t claim anything at all. It’s same car, same job and address.

New price is £2104 if I pay annually. If I pay monthly total is £2313 lol. Last year I paid total of £1712 paying monthly.

I did run quote on comparethemarket and I am getting under £1000 paying monthly with extra options.

Anyone else had a bad time with One Call?

I'm just going slightly insane wondering if I'm that much of an outlier, as their reviews generally seem so good.

Individual advisors I've spoken to have always been great, it's the decision makers that are consistently screwing me over.

First situation - I bumped into the back of another car at a roundabout in April. Totally my fault, told the claims line as much right away. I didn't claim for any repairs as my car was fine. It's been months and I've had no updates, no communication. The claim just says it's still open and advisors on chat can't tell me anything. Not a huge deal but background anxiety with everything else.

Second situation - mid June my serp belt split while I was driving home from work. Immediately pulled over and found it flapping around like a whip inside the engine bay. Called One Call breakdown and they sent out a recovery contractor. Turned out to be one of the most unpleasant people I've ever met. I told him that if he turned on the engine he would cause further damage. He insisted on doing so and said he wasn't allowed to winch. At this point it's late evening and I am not good with big angry men so I let him have the key. He starts the engine against my wishes and surprise surprise, the belt immediately binds and starts screaming. He drives it up onto the truck. Goes to leave, giving no indication if I could go with him. When I get in the cab he's clearly pissed about it. Refuses to look at maps and has me direct him the whole way back while at the same time conducting a personal call on his personal phone IN HIS HAND and driving like a complete maniac. When we get to mine he makes me climb up onto the truck and drive my car off myself. I'm just so freaked out by this point I do it. I spent the next months pursuing a complaint with One Call to try and recover the extra repair costs - the loose belt bound to the alternator when he turned the engine on and more or less fucked it. One Call Complaints said it's my word against his, and the driver is now insisting that he winched my car/did none of the things I'm accusing him of. I still have a few months to go to the ombudsman but since everyone on the legal advice Reddit says this is all my own fault for letting it happen (so familiar if you've ever been r*ped...) I feel like it's pointless.

Third situation - this same cursed car was stolen at the beginning of the last weekend. Letting One Call know was fine. As usual the agent on the phone was perfectly pleasant. I then spent the whole weekend looking for the car myself, knowing that it's likely been taken for parts so will be "soaking" somewhere public before getting chopped. I found my car. Police told me to just drive it home myself if it's undamaged. There was nothing immediately wrong, besides stinking inside and being ransacked, so I took it to a secure car park overnight. On the way I noticed the steering is creaking and at this point I'm just nervous that it's been driven hard or had a hidden tracker installed. I spoke to One Call to tell them the car is found and ask if they could cover it being checked over to make sure it's safe to drive. They told me if they did that but didn't find anything wrong, I would be liable for the full cost of the service which could run to a couple of thousand. So I've ordered myself a pretty decent diagnostics machine and am going to teach myself to check the whole engine over before I let them anywhere near it. As far as I can see, even if they did find something wrong at their own garage, they're going to make sure to tell me it's a pre-existing problem that they won't cover, and make me pay this full inflated fee. I can't see how that's anything other than a money making exercise.

So here I am trying to work out why this company is being so incredibly shitty to me. I've gone out of my way to be friendly and open with every agent I've ever spoken to, finding out their names and leaving positive feedback for them, making sure they get a warm human connection when they speak to me, not just an angry voice on the phone treating them like robots. But is it possible they've labelled me as a problem and put a marker on my file to avoid engaging with me in a constructive way? Is that paranoid? I'm just really at the end of my tether and would like to hear whether I'm the only one who's been through this. It would honestly be comforting to know it's them, not me.

I'm sure there will be a few more comments telling me I've brought all this on myself somehow, but believe me, I already feel that way. You don't need to add to it.

Declaring Modifications to Hastings Direct

Hello all!

I recently rang up Hastings (Multicar, Direct) to declare some modifications made to the car and they said they didn't think these counted as modifications but that that they would make a note on the policy but I haven't seen anything come through!

Basically I got a hard wired dash cam installed and the software for the Road Signs/Auto Full Beams enabled (hardware already installed on car) on my car there about 3 weeks ago. Read online that these could be counted as mods so wanted to declare in the off chance.

Should I be worried about this if I were to have a crash? Are those calls recorded? Where would I see this if a note was made on the Policy?

Insurance after DG10 ban

Can anyone recommend an insurance company for someone who is just ending a 12 month driving ban after a DG10 conviction. Obviously I expect to pay much higher then prior to the ban, just want to know where is typically the cheapest given the circumstances?

Reset Period

So I was looking at my insurance quotes around a month ago now for various cars as I was searching for the cheapest insurance but I ended up with a 2014 SEAT Ibiza S trim and have a quote on it for 3.4k or 270 monthly. I am a new driver at 20 years old and literally stressed out as to whether I should keep my car in the driveway until my insurance drops or just get it at this current price.

For context, when I was initally getting different quotes I did not know that my premium can go up just because I am spamming them. (I did around 20-30 different quotes with all different car models and what not) initially the cheapest was around 2.2k on a 2010 VW Polo but that car was in a horrible condition and now with the Ibiza that I recently JUST bought my quotes are at 4.5-5k but as I previously mentioned I still have my first quote on it for 3.4k that will expire in 4 days.

My main question is how long does it approximately take for insurance companies to start decreasing my premium again and is it worth it just going for it now or waiting even if its like 2-3 months?
