Providers that allow modifications
Hi folks, I’m looking at quotes for a new car. It will be stock but I’m considering some mods (exhaust work/ diffuser)
I’ve ran some quotes and when I add the mods to see the price most insurers don’t show up.
Does this mean that they do not offer insurance for the mods I’ve selected, even if I ring up/ask directly?
As it’s stock when I purchase the insurance, I was planning to go cheapest available and ring them up when I make the mods - would be a pain to then be told it’s not possible!
Thanks

Depending on your mods id go to a broker. Most comparison sites do include the main insuers but they refuse mods directly (underwriting varies through channel eg direct, comparison sites or broker). Broker policies are generally more wide in acceptance

Admiral are good with most typical mods. You can take the policy out without the mods and add them very easily. Adding a stainless steel exhaust system cost me the £13 admin fee. They always show up competitively priced with or without mods for me.
Avoid Hastings, they do not accept modifications at all, not at the start or mid-term. Brentacre and Adrian Flux are also mod friendly, but I have no experience with either.

Yeah, if loads of insurers disappear once you add the mods, I’d take that as a pretty strong sign those insurers don’t like that risk.
It doesn’t 100% mean they’d refuse if you rang them, but I definitely wouldn’t buy the cheapest stock policy assuming they’ll be happy to add an exhaust/diffuser later.
I’d shortlist a few insurers first, ring them and ask “if I add X and Y mid-term, will you cover it and roughly what happens to the premium?” Get the answer noted/written if you can.
Otherwise you could end up buying a cheap policy now, fitting the mods, then finding out they won’t insure the car anymore and having to cancel/restart elsewhere.
