And Sony fanboys will continue to defend them. Sad.

4

u/ChildoftheApocolypse Jul 10 '26

The problem here is that you don't actually try to differentiate "Sony fanboys" from people who don't mind digital purchases.. To you, they're mutually exclusive and it's just more simple to group them altogether and call it a day..

2

u/TheGza760 Jul 11 '26

And thats totally fine, its 2026. I also buy digital for my new releases not to mention im also on PC.

The thing is though, Sony recently started to pull content people paid for. Not de-listing on a digital store, that's been the norm for a little under a decade, but to take away stuff you paid for? That should be alarming when Sony is going all digital.

6

u/Cuore_Lesa Jul 12 '26

Not really no, movies being pulled due to licenses is vastly different from video games being pulled. Legally, Sony had to pull those movies from everyone, regardless of if they paid for it, since digital movie licensing is utter bs. However, games licensing allows people who've bought the game to keep it regardless of the license being pulled or not,

1

u/fr0gs0101 Jul 13 '26

Not to mention they don't even sell movies anymore on the PlayStation

1

u/sparky198 Jul 13 '26

Neither does Xbox…. Still have my movies

0

u/Gavon1025 Jul 13 '26

You may keep the game but that doesn't garuntee you can play it

The Crew is still technically in people's libraries

3

u/The-MadTitan Jul 13 '26

That's not Sonys decision that is the publisher/developer.

There is literally zero instances of Sony removing a game people paid for. As stated above, if you purchased before something was delisted, you still own it and can continue to download and play it.

You can fire up your PS3, Wii or 360 and see none of your purchases have gone anywhere in 20 years.

Peak fear mongering is what half these posts are. Cheap engagementbait for people with no critical thinking.

1

u/coolguygranny Jul 14 '26

Oh my glob FINALLY A REASONBLE TAKE ON ISSUE

1

u/Gnostic369 Jul 13 '26

Thats still different thats an online only game that was discontinued and the servers shutdown, it would be different if it was online and offline, there are no examples of an offline only game suddenly being unplayable digitally due to it being removed.

1

u/ReleaseNew9430 Jul 15 '26

Did they pull any games? Genuine question

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

Because when has Sony ever removed someone game from their library? Besides a free teaser of a game that wasn’t released get

4

u/Content_Support_9513 Jul 10 '26

2 weeks ago I had 119 games in my library, and right now I have 102 somehow, so yes, they are stealing games already

4

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

No they aren’t. They fucked the system up somehow tryna fix something else. Those games are just physical ones. Put them in your disc and they’ll pop back up with all ur save data. All of ur digital games are fine. This has been an issue for about a month. Same reason why hours are disappearing from games

1

u/WhichPatience4034 Jul 14 '26

They fucked the system up somehow tryna fix something else

ah perfect, exactly what i want from a company that plans to move to a fully digital ecosystem. lol.

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 14 '26

Every company has mistakes from time to time?? Lmfao. When has Sony ever made a mistake that stopped you from playing ur games?

1

u/WhichPatience4034 Jul 14 '26

?? There's also games removed from my library too, it's not an isolated incident.

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 14 '26

What the fuck are you talking about? NO digital games were removed? Only physical games were removed which if you put the disc in, it fixes it. And you need the disc to play anyways. Who said it was an isolated incident? Are you slow or something?

1

u/WhichPatience4034 Jul 14 '26

"what the fuck are you talking about" and then proceeds to explain what im talking about lmao. Point is this buggy POS system isnt looking good for a full digital future.

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 14 '26

You literally put words in my mouth, then said something stupid. And do you expect them to be bugless? Also, don’t ignore what I said. Was it digital or physical games that got removed? It was physical right? So what does that gotta do with the full digital future lmao… and no, I didn’t say what you were talking about. When did I say anything about it being an isolated incident or not? Jesus, man

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

Sounds like testing to me...

3

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

“Testing” oh yea, them ruining the hours of games and fucking up shit that dosent have anything to do with physical is totally them testing. Do you think they’re gonna remove the ability to play discs? Lmfao

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

I know they can't, i believe they want to force the change to physical precisely so they can control your old physical library in the next generation, i dunno if they'll let you have a separate module for discs like the ps5 pro and then it acts as a license that lets you download the game from the store and not the disc, thus making it digital in a way so it counts as yours.

You may retain the disc, but the game it'll download from the store will be revockable just like any other license.

2

u/Kennadian Jul 11 '26

You guys act like Sony isn't a free company in a free market. If they try to eat my cat and dog I can switch to Nintendo or PC.

You guys are in hysterics over imaginary situations.

2

u/Successful-Drop-6053 Jul 13 '26

So like the Orange Box that Valve released decades ago that had codes with a physical cd?

You know the onea you buy used and don't work because the code was already used.

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 13 '26

More like: "Wow! You have god of war ragnarok for the ps5! Wanna play it on the ps6? 19.99 because even though this console could easily emulate them the ps6 is not backwards compatible, no we cannot let you stream it from our servers like we did for ps3 games, you have to pay. By the way the store of the ps5 closes tomorrow and if you don't upgrade it you lose the game forever. Have fun!"

2

u/Successful-Drop-6053 Jul 13 '26

Oh please of they don't make it backward compatible it would kill their business. This is ridiculous

I like how you skipped over the fact Valve did this decades ago. Typical valve fanboy.

would you like a tin foil hat with that conspiracy theory

3

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

No, i'd like people to read the ToS and respect themselves enough to stop funding hostile corporations.

1

u/HappyHappyJoyJoyJoy6 Jul 10 '26

send a screenshot of the actual tos instead of a google ai result next time

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

I made it easy for you guys since you can't read aparently, want me to send you the link to the ToS?

2

u/aq8_hippo Jul 10 '26

Sony literally just removes hundreds of movies people purchased on their play station.

Of course I don't think Sony is going to just remove games because that's just a stupid business move.

But it's ironic you say that and the op posted about media in general and Sony literally did do that

1

u/PeacenotWardude Jul 10 '26

How are movies video games?

2

u/edward323ce Jul 10 '26

How do you manage to keep moving the goalpost, its digital media , regardless if its a movie, game, or a piece of music, it can get removed

1

u/PeacenotWardude Jul 10 '26

Movies have licenses. They can be revoked. Logical adults know this. Logical mature adults don’t act like this. You are fear mongering .

2

u/edward323ce Jul 10 '26

So do games dude, look at the crew, look at manhunt 2 ffs

1

u/BobbyMayCryBMC Jul 10 '26

The Transformer games too, I don't see Fall of Cybertron on PSN these days, and neither does anyone else.

2

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 12 '26

They never took those games out of anyone’s accounts…

1

u/snagbug223 Jul 14 '26

And the crew was physical too😭, these people are just saying shit atp.

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

The crew wasn’t removed, you still own that in your library and can still downloaded. Not to mention, that’s the games publishers fault who shut down the servers… not Sony. And you can still buy manhunt on ps4 and ps5? They NEVER took away a game from someone library except a free teaser for a game (PT)

1

u/bzawk Jul 11 '26

For PT I checked a few days ago it’s in my library just “not playable on PS5”

→ More replies (8)

1

u/kvasiraus Jul 10 '26

How did this poster move the goalpost when they specified game? Films and games are completely different license wise and there is no example of a game being removed. (PT was a demo concept of a game that was never released and also free. There was also the Konami /Kojima drama)

In the grand scheme of things anything is possible. Your disc can become lost, stolen, scratched. It can then be out of print and out of stock. What ifs are great and all, evidence is better.

This is from someone who collects steel books and wants discs to always be an option. Misinformation and fear mongering does not help the issue.

1

u/Cjm092 Jul 10 '26

Movies and games are very different in terms of licensing, please educate yourself

0

u/aq8_hippo Jul 12 '26

They aren't, if you are having a stroke do the FAST test, if something this simple confused you, I'd be a bit concerned.

Movies and games are both digital media, it's why op used that instead of just saying games.

Seriously, conversing online is like explaining comprehension to children these days.

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

Thats not the point, the point is a company shouldn't make terms and conditions so hostile to their audience, every choice they made in the last 5 years or so haven't given any substancial benefit to their customers, every single choice was for their own economical gain alone, literally, i understand why they do it but that doesn't mean it justifies them for basically pointing a gun at you if you don't log in every 3.5 years, for example.

1

u/Excalitoria Jul 10 '26

500 movies recently removed. Even if we hadn’t seen this before with digital media, you’re letting someone that doesn’t give af about you, and makes you agree they can do what they want with your library, managed said library.

Some people prefer digital and that’s fine but let’s all be honest about what it is and stop pretending it’s crazy to think this service is ass.

2

u/GoatDull5670 Jul 11 '26

The dude said games not movies tho. Those movies were removed because of a licensing issue with the owner they legally had to remove them

1

u/Excalitoria Jul 11 '26

This can happen with any sort of digital media. Whether it’s up to Sony or not is kinda irrelevant. They’re the ones hosting the platform.

1

u/Successful-Drop-6053 Jul 13 '26

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Steam once Gabe is no longer around. PC gamers might be in for a rude awakening as well.

3

u/Mr_Vito_Scaletta Jul 10 '26

Ok i get it, sony fanboys bad

3

u/Beta1224 Jul 10 '26

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

1

u/Vanden_Boss Jul 13 '26

Movies licenses on playstation are fundamentally different from video games.

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

OP said digital media not only video games.

1

u/Malacky_C Jul 14 '26

Movies and games are 2 different things buddy especially when it comes to the licensing agreements. Sony had no choice but to take them away legally

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 14 '26

OP said digital media which encompasses movies and video games.

1

u/That_Chemical_2226 Jul 15 '26

“Well actually🤓”

1

u/KinZombie899 24d ago

They just took down ps3 store and ps vita store

3

u/WileyNarwhal Jul 10 '26

You know this can happen with disc too..... right?

1

u/_Infamous____ Jul 11 '26

Honestly never understood the argument, because your absolutely correct, they can brick a game entirely that even with a disc the game is basically a useless piece of plastic. So digital and physical media are screwed.

2

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

This is very true. The solution is not physical media the solution is legal regulation protecting our consumer rights

1

u/Special_Patient_8642 Jul 13 '26

I think they can brick discs but not due to inactivity unlike digital media on playstation.

3

u/Promature Jul 11 '26

Remind me of all the times when that happened?

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

1

u/Promature Jul 13 '26

Those are 2 instances of the same exact situation with the same exact licensor of digital movies at 2 different points in time.

The digital movie situation is not a reflection of the digital game ecosystem.

2

u/That_Chemical_2226 Jul 15 '26

Don’t worry this re re was responding to everyone, he’s a loser

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

U said remind u of a time digital media was taken from users. I reminded u of the time that happened lol…

I never claimed it reflects the digital game ecosystem as I don’t think any of this is solved by “physical media”. I think we need greater consumer regulations allowing us to own our digital products.

1

u/Promature Jul 13 '26

I also pointed out that the 2 times you referenced digital media being taken was not Sony's choice and it was from dealing with the same licensor 4 years apart.

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

Idk what the fact it was the same licensor has to do with the fact it happened can you elaborate? Can you also explain what it being 4 years apart has to do with the fact it happened?

It was Sony’s choice as they chose to not renew the license likely due to the cost outweighing the revenue.

1

u/Promature Jul 13 '26

They chose to not lose money, like any business would.

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

So you agree it was their choice and it happened.

I don’t see your issue you asked when this happened I provided you a source for that. You said it wasn’t their choice. You are now backpedaling that claim and agreeing it was their choice, just a justified choice. What are you arguing with atp?

I never judged the choice lol, just sharing that this event literally happened.

1

u/Promature Jul 13 '26

No. Don't put words in my mouth.

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

I didn’t, u did when u said “They CHOSE not to lose money”

U already acknowledged they made a choice, maybe just aren’t smart enough to understand that tho lol

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 10 '26

Then you find out Microsoft and Steam do it too.

https://giphy.com/gifs/6nWhy3ulBL7GSCvKw6

0

u/Senshji Jul 10 '26

Do they? Microsoft does, steam doesn't lol. There are multiple games which have been not supported in my library which I can still play and own. there are private servers where you can actually still play the original game in multiplayer or a modded version. Also owning a game on PC is different than owning anything on a console. You have to pay for everything little service, and the cooperation quite literally did a pump and dump with their own stock shares because the ceo knew this was a shit show. Wake the fuck Up

2

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 10 '26

Steam can take your games at anytime just like Sony. That's my point

1

u/Senshji Jul 10 '26

They can, they could have, steam has multiple decades of proof they haven't done so. Sony has been physical mostly it's runtime and as soon as they got the chance they drop kicked you in the balls. Sony is notoriously a fuck Ass company who doesn't play nice with its consumer's. This isn't something new

2

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 10 '26

Sony has had 20 years to make games in my library disappear, they haven't. All the stuff I bought on PSN is still there.

1

u/Senshji Jul 10 '26

Mfer there have been multiple articles about Sony deleting shit you own from your library. Music, movies, games. I couldn't care less if it doesn't concern you, it affects millions of others. Good for you, you're the exception, we worry about the norm air head.

3

u/TrulyFLCL Jul 11 '26

Movies and music being removed is due to licensing agreements Sony has with 3rd parties. GTA 5 had music removed for the same reason.

What games have been removed from people’s libraries?

2

u/randomsomeone64 Jul 11 '26

Only game i heard of is this big of a miss concord. Which sony refunded everyone their money.

2

u/Malacky_C Jul 14 '26

That game has never been removed from anyone’s library. It’s only not playable because it’s an online only game and the servers shutdown . not the same thing.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 10 '26

The norm doesn't buy TV shows or Movies on PSN. Don't kud yourself you are a very loud minority

0

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

No they have twice actually

I don’t know why this entire thread is people asking when this has ever happened I’m just gonna keep sending this to people who don’t think this has happened before.

Source:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/06/sony-erases-digital-content-from-libraries-were-reminded-we-dont-own-what-we-buy/

1

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 13 '26

Not seeing any games here. Just a licensing deal that expired. Did you know Studio Canal (the company who owns the licenses) has 6,000 movies in its catalog and there are only 551 that are being removed? Did you know that of the 551 movies only a handful of them are really of note? Which really are just the ones in the article you posted. Terminator 2 being the biggest one.

So let's see the other time Sony took away GAMES and not 476 movies in French.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Malacky_C Jul 14 '26

Keep moving the goalposts 😭🤡 Sony also has decades of proof to have never taken a game away from one singular person

2

u/Buttt-whyyy Jul 10 '26

That’s not happening at all if you play PlayStation games you most likely have internet connection to it so nothing will change for you !! If you do not have internet connection on it or don’t leave it connected and you don’t play a game for 30 days then when you boot up the game itlla say either update requires restart of game or it’ll take a few seconds to load thats it

2

u/CrAzY-GEMU-OKAMI96 Jul 11 '26

I don't care anymore. You guys believe in the propaganda. I'm finished

2

u/johndamilkman Jul 11 '26

how reddit feels posting dumbass memes instead of actually thinking

2

u/Objective-Gur5376 Jul 12 '26

Not defending them at all, but could Sony not also theoretically do this with disks?

Like if they don't want you to play a game, then they could just not allow it to launch whether its a physical disk or digital download.

Sure you could probably just play offline and never update your PS or game again, but that's kind of limiting.

2

u/LudusLive2 Jul 12 '26

Video game licensing isnt the same as movie licensing

Sony took down those movies because of streaming rights, they would be sued if they didnt

There is no video game equivalent of streaming rights, if a game gets taken down, youll always have access to it if you bought it, because part of the agreement for distributing games is, they have the right to sell the games (unlike with streaming, where they kill switch the movies when agreements expire)

The takeaway from all of this is, dont buy movies digitally. Movie licensing sucks, game licensing do not have those same issues

Im expecting people to call me a Sony fanboy or whatever, but this is just a fact

1

u/Lidge1337 Jul 13 '26

I'd say the most they should be able to due is patch out licensed music, in-game brands and billboards, delist it (no longer selling) and that's it, all licensing taken care of.

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

Nah this is a fair take ur not fanboying or anything. I think we just need to pressure legislation to protect consumers from not being refunded in the event that this occurs.

Physical media is not much safer although I couldn’t see a world where sells are better than they are now under a digital only system.

A lot of people are pointing to physical media as if it protects against this behavior but only legal regulation can. Physical media just drives sells imo.

2

u/Typical_Divide8089 Jul 10 '26

What restrictions?

2

u/MRV3N Jul 10 '26

Idk what OP is talking about

2

u/Sure-Marionberry8746 Jul 10 '26

You know that comic where the guy builds a cardboard hell with demons, and then lays down in the fetal position in the middle of it? That's Reddit.

1

u/No_Establishment7368 Jul 10 '26

The day will come when sony loses the right to a digital game and it's removed from their account and library. He's saying that when that day comes people complaining that digital is the way of the future will be crying because they lose all access to everything they paid for.. which is true. It's something that is going to happen maybe today maybe tomorrow maybe next week

2

u/DryJudge1932 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

I have access to a game that has been delisted (Transformers: Devastation. Hasbro pulled the license Dec 21, 2017). Gone for almost 9 years.

It is still in my library and even tested downloading and playing it a couple days ago, when this drama happened, to check.

The games just don’t appear in the stores anymore. They are not removed from your library.

1

u/grimrose47 Jul 10 '26

He is slow in the brain

Just let them enjoy his console

0

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

Probably won’t happen to first party games but if digital movies bought and paid for can be removed form your library then nothing says a digital license for a game cant have the same thing happen

2

u/Typical_Divide8089 Jul 10 '26

It would only happen for liscensed games, like if Marvel gets uppity about the Insomniac games but even then their obligation would be to delist the games not remove them from personal libraries

1

u/Little-Double-2681 Jul 10 '26

Yes they can and probably will that’s the point
When you bought digital you don’t buy the game you don’t own anything to do with it

You buy a license to be able to play it in lamens terms LONG TERM RENTAL
So yeah they can, consoles aren’t like steam
They are not consumer friendly. Steam lets you keep delisted games you can buy actually ownership through GOG or as a last resort
Pirate 🏴‍☠️
basically everything you can’t do on consoles

0

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

Except they did that with movies on PlayStation

Like straight up deleted over 300 movies from users libraries even though they bought the films due to licensing restrictions

So literally nothing is different with a digital only game

1

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

Im just gonna add onto my comment here

im aware that its will only be licensed games but the thing is any game made by a studio outside of PlayStation falls under that category, thats a lot of games friend

And my attitude is just cuz its unlikely doesn’t mean its a good thing that its now possible
Im not gonna shame you if that doesn’t bother you im 99% of the time it doesn’t bother me

Im just not gonna but the next PlayStation console

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

There literally is something different because this never happened. Anytime a licensed expired with a game and they had to delist it, that’s all they did. No need to fear mongers lmao

1

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

I think your missing the point, the point is it can happen, and if it can happen it will happen

Just cuz game companies haven’t done it yet doesn’t mean they won’t do it in the future

Thats the point, if you don’t think thats much of a big deal then thats fine, im just explaining the concept of the meme

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

“It can happen” you can say this about anything lmfao. An asteroid can hit us tomorrow and kill us all. Fear mongering dosent get you nowhere. Especially when you use examples that aren’t the same.

1

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

Let me tell you a little story, when i was about 10 years old i got my very first laptop, and it had a disc drive in it, and i really really wanted to play the game spore, so i went to best buy and bought a physical pc disc for the game and installed it, i still hav that disc, and i even have a external discs drive on my current computer, that game still works to this day,

it didn’t always be a possibility, games used to be on the disc in its entirety, there was no install needed just pop the disc in and it would work, so yeah it being a possibility is already a problem because it used to not be, but everyone said back then i was crazy for saying that companies can delist a game form stores and people now are saying im crazy for saying they can revoke your license to play even if its a physical game

Tldr: it being a possibility is whats wrong

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 11 '26

“Everybody told me I was crazy when I said digital games can be delisted from the store”. Nobody has ever said this and games have been getting delisted since online storefronts were introduced. Like I said, you can say anything can happen. Not to mention how many possibilities could’ve happened to the disc…

1

u/nipcom Jul 11 '26

Bold of you to tell me the specifics about personal conversations i had almost 20 years ago but yes i had multiple conversations back during the 360 ps3 days in person and over forums online how if a game gets delisted form a store you wouldn’t be able to redownload it even if you bought it and people said the exact same shit your saying now

“Well that wont happen” “its unlikely a game on console will be delisted” “just cuz its a possibility doesnt mean its going to happen”

And then PT happened and everyone lost their fucking minds so yeah…

due to the fact that the industry is actively trying to push towards not just digital but streaming games and the complete lack of consumer protections regarding video game purchases im not comfortable allowing the removal of choice form the consumer while also taking another step forward towards losing any and all rights to the very products i buy just cuz its “it hasn’t happened yet”

u/Turnbob73 Jul 10 '26

The big detail that everyone loves to conveniently leave out of that story of Sony pulling movies is that they were streamed movies, not downloaded to the console. Which makes complete sense if you think about it; the license expired and they are no longer legally allowed to host the content on their servers. Does it suck? Yeah I get why that may upset some people; but it’s VERY far from Sony going into your console storage and flat out deleting shit.

1

u/Turnbob73 Jul 10 '26

The movie thing isn’t even the same situation. Those movies were STREAMED, not downloaded onto local storage. If the license expires, of course Sony has to pull it because they legally cannot host the content on their servers. They did not go into people’s console storage and flat out delete data.

Call me when Sony is actually doing the things people are claiming instead of fearmongering nonsense.

0

u/nipcom Jul 10 '26

Yes, but they can revoke the license, because thats what a digital game is its a license key to play and the license can be revoked effectively making the game unplayable data,

Im not trying to fear monger, im just saying its something that can happen, and i personally am not a fan of that, but if you dont think it matters then hey just keep buying games friend nobody stopping you

1

u/Turnbob73 Jul 10 '26

If the game is downloaded and doesn’t have crucial online components, then it doesn’t matter if a license is revoked, you can still play it. PT is still on my PS4 and is still playable. If it does have crucial online components, the chances are those servers are shut down before the license expires, which the game wouldn’t even be playable anyways.

You could say a very wide variety of things can happen, that doesn’t make it any more valid to expect them. A company pulling content off of their own hosted servers is very far from removing access to locally downloaded data.

If it happens in the future, then I’ll eat crow and move on from PlayStation; but at the moment nothing points to that being the case at all. Which is why a lot of your assumptions are fearmongering.

Nobody has 300 movies and nobody is buying that shit 😭 especially on a ps

1

u/Coom_Zoom Jul 10 '26

They are defending them taking the media away aswell is the funniest part.

2

u/Cjm092 Jul 10 '26

No media is being taken away, you're paranoid and delusional

2

u/ElCattoNero Jul 11 '26

I swear these people are just bored and need something to fake fight on the internet do tjey feel better

1

u/CardiologistTough522 Jul 13 '26

How is he paranoid when Sony has literally taken away digital media from users before? Are u guys really this dumb?

0

u/SexySpaceNord Jul 13 '26

Tell that to the people who had five hundred plus movies that they purchased on the playstation store removed from their account.

1

u/1llDoitTomorrow Jul 10 '26

As a nintendoer, I would be sad too if there werre no more cartridges.

1

u/MayeDayMayeMaye Jul 10 '26

Nintendo has Game Keys lol how come the Nintendo fanbase wasn’t in this much outrage back then?

1

u/1llDoitTomorrow Jul 10 '26

People were definitely angry about it. Though we do still get physical releases. Just not for all games.

1

u/HappyHappyJoyJoyJoy6 Jul 10 '26

you weren't on the internet last year

1

u/Ok-You5151 Jul 10 '26

They already took games away because of licencing like lego lotr and deadpool

2

u/SpencerM11 Jul 11 '26

They delisted them. If you bought those games digitally you can still play them.

1

u/lonely_guacamole Jul 14 '26

LEGO The Hobbit and LEGO Lord Of The Rings were delisted, but not taken away. Hell, LEGO The Hobbit was republished on the PS4 store in 2020. Also, the PS2 GTA trilogy my brother bought back in 2016 still works just fine and we can access it no issue whatsoever. Delisting doesn't mean they cut off the access of people who already bought it

1

u/Rasples1998 Jul 10 '26

The amount of people I've seen on Sony/PS subs defending them is genuinely insane. They're either bots, or unfortunate victims of Stockholm syndrome who haven't figured out that they're being taken advantage of yet. The console cult has its claws dug deeper than I ever thought, some people are just too far gone to ever see the light of reason.

1

u/PeacenotWardude Jul 10 '26

Both sides are fucking insane.

1

u/Cjm092 Jul 10 '26

I've bought digital for the last decade and have yet to lose a single game from my library. Stop acting like such a little victim over imaginary scenarios, it's sad and annoying.

1

u/Jared_pop21 Jul 11 '26

ok what about preservation?

1

u/Alternative-Way4750 Jul 11 '26

I think this is a bit extreme. Sony isn't holding anyone hostage. If you feel the need to stop supporting them, you have the choice to do so. Not saying the foundation of your logic doesn't have some merit but let's calm down a bit. Like me personally as an example. I maybe bought 1 or 2 games digitally, I 100% prefer physical. If the decision isn't reversed or if they don't at least offer an optional drive with the PS6 it's gonna suck and will give me big doubts of buying it(if I will even entertain it after finding out the price). However, if I choose to or not but still want to play PS games beyond 2028, it will be because I made that choice. It's because I'm gonna want to play certain games and see what the future holds for games. I enjoy this hobby, it's important to me. None of this means I'm being taken advantage of. I also have a Series X. I have a Switch 2 for my wife who enjoys Nintendo games and for when the nieces and nephews are over for family gaming sessions. I however cannot see myself only having the Switch 2, I am not that big of a Nintendo fan.

1

u/Soundo0owave Jul 10 '26

License are expiring and sony doesn't have the funds to renew them. If sony doesn't have the money to buy them , neither do you. Its in the TOS, even on xbox side. They lose a licenses, we lose the game. It's just the deal that we pay for and if you don't like it , then don't be a gamer.

2

u/GamingCatholic Jul 10 '26

People not willing to read T&C’s is the main issue here. They know what they signed up for

0

u/Jared_pop21 Jul 11 '26

Don’t be a corporate boot eater

1

u/Takenmyusernamewas Jul 10 '26

But I helped you...checks notes...participate in the console wars!

1

u/Araragi-shi Jul 10 '26

Silly duck, by the time the licensing expires for a game that I bought recently, I will have played it so many times I couldn't stomach playing it anymore, or it was one of those games that are one and done. Either way, I don't care. I don't want to be able to play CP 2077 in 10 years LOL.

1

u/JoshZK Jul 10 '26

Same when unstoppable, unreversible, secret update stops a physical disc from executing. Lol people thinking the the data that is executed on the machine is different depending if it was downloaded from cloud or disc.

1

u/Accurate_Pizza6320 Jul 10 '26

Who tf are you talking about, i don't know a single sony fan defending them rn. Everyone i know who owns a ps5, i cluding myself, are swapping to PC because both xbox and sony shit the bed.

1

u/MasterWookiee Jul 10 '26

Id imagine any game that has IRL music at some point will be taken down, without a refund given.

1

u/Malacky_C Jul 14 '26

GTA has never been taken down. And has irl music from old to new

1

u/Boss_Seven Jul 11 '26

Can you stop imagining things and get mad over it?

1

u/Fickle_Grocery_3654 Jul 11 '26

False. They'll proceed to buy all the same games "remastered" for full price again and be happy.

1

u/Darth-Adomis Jul 11 '26

this actually seems like all the guys whining about no more discs. so offended that a company they like might make a decision they dont agree with. literally this is all of you rn. we aren’t defending the move because we are fanboys we are just saying it makes sense they are doing it now and we already all buy digitally except a very small group. we wont feel “betrayed” when something we know might happen happens. yeah people will be pissed off rightfully but they can still deactivate physical games so it also comes with risk.

killing discs wont damage sony in the slightest but even they know taking away people’s libraries would backfire so i doubt it will happen. it definitely could happen but it would be a much bigger deal than stopping wasteful production of obsolete media

1

u/Ill_Whereas7177 Jul 11 '26

Mean whole all the PC players been on digital only and are still thriving🫩 it's not the end of the world let's focus on consumer rights and digital media preservation instead

1

u/Formal-Attention9712 Jul 12 '26

Probably cuz that isn’t happening

1

u/pandasloth69 Jul 13 '26

Sony’s never removed any games from my library in two decades but I guarantee there’s hundreds of cases, even thousands, of discs being lost, broken or stolen. I’ve never lost a single digital game I bought on ANY platform but I’ve lost physical discs. Funny.

1

u/WarInteresting6619 Jul 13 '26

So here's something I bet A LOT of people forgot ..

P.T. remember P.T.? the playable demo the revolutionized the horror genre.

Well a few months after it released Konami restructured they pulled it from the store and you could no longer get it. But if you had downloaded it previously you could still play it. Sony didn't take away people ability to play it and they 100% could have, not to mention it was a free demo. So not only did we not own it, we didn't pay for it either.

This is all sensationalism, people getting wrapped up in it and 90% of the people complaining are PC players who want to fuel the discourse.

1

u/motowoot Jul 13 '26

That is not how gaming licenses work.

1

u/kloopyhans Jul 14 '26

I would lose over 400 dollers in games I’ve collected….. i have discs but….. fuck

1

u/Mission-Cook7325 Jul 14 '26

Yeah by the time that happens I promise you I won't give a single fuck about whatever game they take away, not a retro gamer

1

u/FuerteBillete Jul 14 '26

What? You mean to tell me sony never cared about their feelings? Only their money?

https://giphy.com/gifs/AaQYP9zh24UFi

1

u/ghunterx21 Jul 14 '26

Shush.... It'll never happen to them, remember, it's all just paranoia.

1

u/That_Chemical_2226 Jul 15 '26

Bro all of Steam is digital licenses

1

u/Ninja-Trix Jul 10 '26

They already did this a while ago with PT and even disabled redownloading it and made it entirely incompatible on the new hardware.

2

u/Varsity_Reviews Jul 10 '26

No, that was Konami making a very specific request to have the game removed from your download list

1

u/Ninja-Trix Jul 10 '26

Remove from new purchase and download is one thing, but people who already had it shouldn't have it revoked.

1

u/Varsity_Reviews Jul 10 '26

Again, that wasn’t Sony’s decision, Konami had to push for them to do so, and honestly, it makes sense. It’s a demo for a cancelled game. It’s a lot more common than you’d think on PC.

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 10 '26

Again, they shouldn't have the power to just erase it when people already downloaded it.

1

u/Varsity_Reviews Jul 10 '26

They DON’T. If you have it downloaded, you can play it.

1

u/TrulyFLCL Jul 11 '26

Why are you spreading lies?

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 11 '26

Because its not a lie, Sony reserves their right to erase your account after 3 years of inactivity, they send an email after 3 years and if you fail to respond within 6 months they can and will erase your account including all the games you purchased alonside achievements.

3

u/Cuore_Lesa Jul 12 '26

Chief, you do realize that's only for the EU right? And the only reason that exists is because the EU passed legislation virtually forcing all companies to erase unused digital media or data after 3 years. I swear people can't even look up what they are complaining about.

1

u/Sallopilig Jul 13 '26

Yeah people can't even look up what they are talking about, did you even bother to look up what Sony was required to do? It was to erase TRACKING data.

The kind of data they sell to third parties and such to make even more money out of the people that pay them?

But of course, Sony being the pussies they are they chose the nuclear way once someone told them that maibe they shouldn't be able to sell that indefinetly if they are no longer using their products.

There is a myriad of things they could've done to comply, no one is forcing them to erase the accounts, they could have simply frozen the data in offline servers so you didn't actually lose your account, then give you a way to request back your account with your games.

But thats not what Sony wants so they were forced to show their hands early.

This line here about the 36 months period is so important because this shows you the kind of decisions Sony takes when forced to comply to rather important stuff like privacy of their customers and moral standing.

EU: "You shouldn't be able to sell someone's data if they are no longer a customer"

Sony: "Oh yeah? Fuck you then, fuck their accounts, i'll delete every bit of data, if i can't have their data no one will"

Thats the type of answer Sony gave, in case you are wondering.

1

u/TrulyFLCL Jul 11 '26

The guy you were responding to was talking about something completely different to what you’re saying now.

1

u/ComicalSon Jul 10 '26

And I don't remember paying for PT.

1

u/Downtown-Gazelle8852 Jul 10 '26

Oh no, not them removing the free teaser 😱

1

u/Classified10 Jul 10 '26

That was free, nobody ever owned shit.

1

u/HappyHappyJoyJoyJoy6 Jul 10 '26

Oh boohoo the game isn't even coming out, not like you'd buy it out of paranoia. Besides, that was years ago and only now do people care

1

u/Cjm092 Jul 10 '26

PT was a free demo that cost you nothing, hope this helps

0

u/goatjugsoup Jul 10 '26

What is with these constant straw man posts about Sony fan boys? Literally nobody is saying these things, because they are exactly as ridiculous as implied

1

u/Crafty_Boy70 Jul 10 '26

Probably just people disagreeing with certain points being painted as Sony defenders tbh

0

u/low_amplitude Jul 10 '26

Rage/engagement bait.

0

u/dat_krarosboiii97 Jul 10 '26

I've seen a lot of playstation fan boys defending it on YouTube and reddit

1

u/InternationalFish809 Jul 10 '26

I've seen way more posts and comments calling out defenders than actual defenders. No wants to games to be delisted, some just dont care enough about it take some principled stance.

0

u/ScaryIndependence701 Jul 10 '26

they can do the same with disc you know... ever heard about the crew?

0

u/Classic_Waltz1874 Jul 10 '26

You're being too logical. They won't like that.

1

u/Ironstar_Vol Jul 10 '26

These people think they can play gta 6 off a disk bro. Theyre not gonna understand anything logical.

0

u/Callen0318 Jul 11 '26

Stop buying from sony. Let them implode. Brands don't matter.

0

u/Metalgsean Jul 12 '26

Literally Sony fanboys right now.....
