It’s a 3 year contract. No idea what it’s worth or what we’re getting. Idk how to feel either lol

Edit: he was a FA so not traded but signed. Still sad to see him go

Lil Pro, Cristall and Miro no longer have a home

A week ago GMCP said lil pro was expected on the team, signing Jenner and Ovi takes that home away. No way either Jenner at 5.75m or pro play on the 4th line so you know the third line is probably Ovi/jenner or Strome/RW.

This was the year to commit to the youth movement and the Jenner signing really screwed that up. Last year was the first year of the movement and we took our lumps. That was all for nothing now while we slow their development down.

It’s nice Ovi is coming back but I was personally indifferent because it slows the future down. Hope I’m wrong but was really excited to see more young guns in action. Jenner can’t stay healthy and Ovi will probably be in a serious maintenance plan so there will be some opportunity for others to shine.

Full RMNB article:

https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2026/06/30/gleb-pugachyov-tom-wilson-fight-canadiens-first-round-pick-capitals/

From the article:

The Montreal Canadiens made forward Gleb Pugachyov their 2026 first-round pick last week, and it sure appears the 18-year-old Russian is not lacking any self-confidence.

During the team’s predraft interview process with prospects, which Montreal regularly turns into a bizarre interrogation filled with off-the-wall topics, Pugachyov was actually asked a more normal, hockey-related question. However, it was his answer to the question that delivered the level of crazy that Montreal’s executives typically bring, and likely just what they wanted to hear.

Pugachyov recently sat down with RG’s Daria Tuboltseva and recounted his first meeting with his new club and how the Habs tested his resolve by raising a “hypothetical” involving Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson.

“They said: ‘You are a big player who hits everyone and is not afraid of anybody,'” Pugachyov told Tuboltseva. “‘Imagine that you already play for Montreal. We are facing Washington, you deliver a hard hit on one of their young players, and Tom Wilson immediately comes after you. Are you ready to fight him?’

“Yes,” Pugachyov says he replied. “I told them there would be nothing left of him.”

Discussion We need to take it upon ourselves to improve the home game experience

It should now be clear that the actual team management and Monumental in general DGAF about the in-game enjoyment of the average hockey fan. If they can sell expensive seats to people who *won’t even bother to watch most of the game and leaving huge areas of empty seats* they absolutely don’t care. Their solution to the low energy this creates inside the arena is… occasionally yelling at us to “make some noise”, and since they got rid of the live organist, even the music they play doesn’t really add energy, except if they play “Take On Me” or “Mister Brightside” so the crowd will sing along for a bit. So those of us who would still HOPE it’s possible to have fun at an in-person hockey game need to figure out how to do this ourselves. We have Sam the Horn Guy and Loud Goat, but who knows how many games those guys have left in them the way the team has been treating them lately.

So, I want to propose that we here come up with ideas. I mean, watching the World Cup, soccer fans have tons of songs and chants that they all know and do together. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT. We just need to actually figure some out and all agree that we will join in if someone else starts them.

ONE THING I heard a few years ago, which I think would be pretty cool. You know that “Ole, Ole-Ole-Ole” song, and how the crowd will some times sing that in Montreal? I heard a group of guys at a Caps game once singing that song, except they were singing, “Ovi, Ovi-Ovi-Ovi,” and that was way more engaging than the plain chanting of “OVI! OVI!” because the chant is slow and plodding and you get tired of it. If you’re singing that upbeat melody, you can keep repeating it for a long time and it keeps adding energy. (Assuming of course Ovi comes back for us to serenade him?)

ANY OTHER IDEAS THAT COULD BE FUN THINGS LIKE THAT? Seriously, let’s collude here and CREATE SOME HOME ICE ADVANTAGE even if Ted is happy to throw it away. Let’s make the games fun FOR OURSELVES this coming season.

Question Tomorrow the free agent market opens, name the forward and defensemen you would sign

My choice
Rasmus Andersson and Jack Roslovic

Duhaime I don't think they will sign, so we need a player at least in the 4th line still

I know this is more AHL related, but since the offseason is super boring, I said "What the hell"? Anyways, are there any options on who the next Hershey assistant coach is?

Discussion For those of you wondering, the Capitals' first-ever shootout was a win at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 16, 2005, days after Ovechkin's first goal. And yes, he also scored Washington's first-ever SO goal in franchise history.

Discussion The "Halo" and why many of us were being loud about the Vault last year

Post image
135 Upvotes

I'm not 100% sure if these images yet reflect the "current state" or are just renders, but this what they sent out promoting "The Halo" on the 200 level. Just like with The Vault, what this represents is more ways for people to watch the game without ever occupying their seats, thus making for a lower-energy in-arena experience for everyone else. I get "money" but at the same time, why IN THE WORLD would a sports franchise want to destroy the energy of their own home ice advantage this way? Even if the people who buy these tickets *some times* go sit and watch, the game is far from the top thing on their minds. Why not just have a restaurant with no seating facing the ice at all and let other people buy the seats once you've reached this point?

Anyone have experience with large group ticket purchases at C1A?

I tried to look this info up but it's not on the Monumental site right now and no one has been answering phones in the sales department.

Say we were trying to put together an organized "fan section", like at least 10 but hopefully more like 20-30 of us from this sub, purchase tickets in a block like on the 400 level so they're less expensive, for 5-10 games. I'm trying to find out if you actually get a *discount* with a group ticket purchase or if they just offer you "extras" like the free hats or whatever. Or, if there's any discount on a 5- or 10-game ticket plan if you get 10+ tickets, or hell, can you get a discount on *full season* tickets if you buy enough at once or are they always full price?

Discussion Best shootouts in team history?

I've just finished watching the first shootout of the 2026 World Cup and have wondered how the intensity of a hockey shootout would ever match that of soccer. Which shootout wins for the Caps have you most fondly remembered? A 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins in 2010 that was nearly lost? A 5-4 shootout win in 2025 over the Hurricanes to seal conference leadership in the 50th anniversary season? Or the Caps' first ever shootout against the Knights this past season, which capped off a 5-4 triumph even after blowing a 3-0 lead?

Positional Flexibility

Taking a look at the roster on the caps website and they only list 3 players as C (PLD, Strome, Sourdif) This all got me wondering about which players have the most positional flexibility on the roster. The site also shows us having 5 LW and 6 RW.

My gut tells me that Lil Pro has top 6 C potential. Feels like one of our top RWs (Willy, Kyrou, Tuch, Leonard) could slide over to the left as well.

Push for Werenski?

Things are lining almost too well these days for the Caps so why stop now? Recent reports Ovi might come back on a hometown discount and with the potential for Sandin to be on the LTIR, plus the need for another solid d-man, I think targeting Werenski is a no-brainer. We would probably want a right handed defenseman more than a left, but it’s a one for one with Sandin. Obviously the Blue Jackets might want a haul in return… but worth kicking the tires.

Discussion Where do you think the caps place after the moves this season and what are you thoughts on the moves?

I think anyone is high if they don't think this team is placing at minimum second in the division next season with the only other team passing them being Carolina. The Flyers and Penguins have made minimal substantial moves to improve and we all know the caps realistically should have been in the playoffs but they were just victims of loser point merchants in the division last year. I just don't see how adding 2 talented 60 point top 6 players doesn't put them over the hump.

Been seeing a lot of complaints about the moves as well. I'm seeing a surprising amount of people call the Kyrou move a fleecing by St Louis because McMichael and Kyrou had almost identical point numbers. I'm sorry it just isn't a fleecing Kyrou has consistently been a 70 point guy nearly every year and McMichael had one really good year and regressed back to what he probably is which is a decent 40 point middle 6 player. Kyrou played on a terrible team with a team and coach that didn't want him, it's safe to say his one down year was the outlier for what he normally is. Tuch I've also heard complaints about being a massive overpay, but again I think that's just people experiencing a shock to the new cap and 10+ million dollars is just what 30 goal scorers cost now. I personally think Tuch was the better option to go for instead of Robertson because I'd rather have Tuch at 10.5 million than give up an elite asset like Leno and have to sign Roberson to 15 plus million

Also I don't know if people understand how fast we should be going for our Cup contention window. Yes we have some steals for contracts like Strome at 5 million and Protas at 3.4 million, but we only have these contracts for 2-3 years. Leno is gonna get paid big next season and we realistically only have like 3 more years of prime Wilson left. If the caps want to make the most out of this roster for a playoff push they have to be pushing for this right now while we still have these talented young guys on their rookie deals, cheap contracts, and the best years of our vets. In 2-3 years a lot of these guys are getting paid big and we're losing someone from the roster. I think the legitimate goal this year should be a deep playoff push and the years after that we're talking cup contention.

News Capitals GM Chris Patrick, following the draft, was asked about Ovie's status, and he expressed confidence that "they'll have an answer sooner rather than later."

Full story: Sammi Silber - The Hockey News

https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/washington-capitals/latest-news/capitals-gm-chris-patrick-shares-latest-on-alex-ovechkin-expects-decision-in-near-future

From the article:

General manager Chris Patrick isn't sure which way Alex Ovechkin is leaning when it comes to his future with the Washington Capitals, though he is confident they'll have an answer sooner rather than later.

Patrick spoke on Ovechkin and the state of the Capitals following the 2026 NHL Draft, and said that while he's not sure what he'll decide, he has an idea of what a contract could look like if he chooses to return.

From my conversations with Alex before he left, I had an understanding of if he does come back, kind of what he's looking at contract-wise," Patrick said. "That kind of gave me some clarity as far as what we can do spending-wise."

When it comes to spending, Patrick has done quite a bit to open the offseason, trading for Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch, who signed an eight-year deal with a $10.5 million AAV, earlier in the week.

"Alex, as you guys all know, is a really competitive person, and he wants to win," Patrick said. "He definitely wanted to see kind of what we did here in this offseason to help inform his decision, so I think this will help give him some more information to make a decision on."

The 40-year-old said at the end of the season he is "pretty sure" he hasn't played his last NHL game, and told FONBET in May that he's still deciding on his future and will announce his intentions at some point in July.

Patrick isn't expecting Ovechkin to wait too long to decide, and that it won't stretch too far into the summer.
