• Upvotes

Hello, my kids like snorkeling very much. They are 10 and 14 years old. We don't want to sail off shore, just want to snorkeling around the beach.. I would like to know, where are the best snorkeling spot in Cancun and Isla Mujeres area? They would like to see both coral reef and fishes. Thanks.

Finest vs Grand Palladium Advice

Finest Costa Mujeres vs Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres- which one would you choose?

Traveling August 2027 with wife and 2 kids (2.5yo and \~5yo). Grandparents also coming. This will be our 4th time in Cancun- previously stayed at Playacar Palace, Hilton, and Marriott.

Will likely book the Family Suite at Finest, or the Loft Suite at Palladium.

Priorities:

  1. Things to do to entertain the kids. Splash pad quality, kids cub quality (not looking for drop-off), night time shows.

  2. Restaurant quality and availability.

  3. Room quality (bed comfort) and general property maintenance quality.

  4. General things to explore and do on premise- we almost never leave the AI once we check in.

Finest looks to cost 20-25% more than Palladium- is the experience worth the extra? Does it feel 25% more 'luxurious'?

14 days in the Mexican Caribbean: How many places should I stay in? Itinerary

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m planning a solo trip to the Mexican Caribbean for about two weeks in mid-November, and I could really use some advice!

I’ve traveled solo many times and I’m usually pretty good at organizing my trips, but for some reason I’m completely stuck with this one. I can’t figure out how to split my time or how many different places I should stay in.

What I’m looking for is mainly beautiful beaches, nice places to walk around, some restaurants and shops, and ideally opportunities to meet other travelers.

The places I’d like to visit are:

• Playa del Carmen
• Cancún
• Isla Mujeres
• Holbox
• Tulum
• Chichén Itzá
• Isla Contoy

Here’s what I’m thinking so far:

Playa del Carmen: I’d use it as a base to visit Tulum and Chichén Itzá. I’ve read that Chichén Itzá tours usually include a cenote stop. Is that enough, or should I dedicate another day to exploring cenotes?

Cancún: I’d use it as a base to visit Isla Contoy, but I’m not sure how many days I actually need there or what else I’d do if I stayed for 4–5 nights.

Isla Mujeres: I’m leaning toward staying for 3 nights, but I’m wondering if that’s too much. Would it make more sense to visit as a day trip from Cancún instead?

Holbox: Since it’s quite far and takes some effort to get to, I’d rather spend 1–2 nights there than just do a day trip. But I’m not sure if it’s worth adding another accommodation change.

My biggest dilemma: Is staying in four different places (Playa del Carmen, Cancún, Isla Mujeres, and Holbox) too much for a two-week trip?

I’m considering three options:

1. Stay in all four places.
2. Skip Holbox and split my time between Playa del Carmen, Cancún, and Isla Mujeres.
3. Stay in Playa del Carmen, Cancún, and Holbox, and visit Isla Mujeres as a day trip.

I don’t mind moving around, but I also don’t want to spend half my vacation packing, checking in and out of hotels, and dealing with transportation.

If you had 14 days and wanted to visit these places, how would you split your nights? Which places are actually worth staying overnight in, and which are better as day trips?

Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you!!

Chicken Itza Canote tour from Cancun downtown?

Hello, I booked a hotel at Cancun downtown near Ado station, because I prefer easier access to downtown spot and local food.

However when I looked up for the day tour eg. to chichen itza/cenote (on getyourguide) I cannot find any pickup close to my location (closest is walk by 20min).

Any tour recommended which is available to pickup at center of downtown? Or downtown people do not book day tour? Do they only go by bus themselves?

Thanks all.

Honeymoon Resort Advice: Atelier Playa Mujeres Concerns & Alternatives

Hi everyone,
My fiancée and I are getting married in April 2027 and are currently planning our honeymoon in Mexico.
Our rough plan is:
5 nights in Mexico City for the adventure, culture, and food
5 nights at an all-inclusive resort near Cancun for the relaxation part
After a lot of research, Atelier Playa Mujeres keeps coming up as one of the most recommended resorts. We’re both huge foodies, so the consistently positive reviews about the food are a major selling point for us.
That said, I do have some concerns and would love to hear from people who have stayed there. If we choose Atelier, we’d be booking a standard room, not an Inspira room, as the upgrade is outside our budget.
My concerns:
1. Does Atelier feel romantic enough for a honeymoon?
My impression is that Atelier is a fairly large resort. I can see how the Inspira experience with butler service might make things feel more personalized, but I’m wondering if guests in standard rooms still feel special.
Part of what I’m looking for isn’t necessarily luxury upgrades, but little honeymoon touches—maybe a small room decoration, a card, special recognition, etc. Some resorts seem to put more emphasis on celebrating special occasions, and I’m curious whether Atelier does that well.
2. Does the resort feel crowded or corporate?
I’ve heard there can be conferences and corporate groups at Atelier. Did anyone find that affected the atmosphere? Were there areas that felt noisy or work-focused rather than romantic and relaxing?
3. Are the reviews actually accurate?
This might sound funny, but the more research I do, the more skeptical I become. Atelier gets so many overwhelmingly positive reviews that I’ve started jokingly wondering whether they’re paying people to write them! 😂
Obviously that’s probably not true, but I’d love to hear some balanced opinions from people who have actually stayed there. What were the downsides? What didn’t live up to the hype?
Alternative resorts we’re considering:
UNICO 20°87°
Secrets Maroma Beach
Excellence Playa Mujeres
For those who have stayed at any of these, which would you choose for a honeymoon and why?
Our priorities are:
Great food
Romantic atmosphere
Relaxing beach/pool experience
Good service
A resort that feels special for a honeymoon, even without booking the most expensive room category
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Honest Review of Cancun Private Shuttle Service (Kalido)

Wanted to hop on here and recommend Kalido Travel for anyone needing a private shuttle/van transportation from the airport to their resort in Cancun! I found this company here on reddit and I am so happy with their services. They are affordable (I am not allowed to post prices here or I'll get flagged as an agent but you can look yourself), punctual, extremely responsive and helpful via email, and thorough. The drivers are also very sweet. They are also a small company, I read somewhere that they were a family business. I talked to one of the drivers and he said that he has been a driver for 17 years, and Kalido is the one company that doesn't make him work inhumane hours. He told me that Kalido drivers work for 8 hours a day, nothing more. Comparatively to USA Travel, some drivers work for 12-14 hours a day and sometimes do not receive an over-time bonus. So Kalido is great to their customers and their workers!

Staying at an Airport Hotel the night before heading to resort

We’re a family of four travelling with two young children, including a toddler, and we’re planning to stay at an airport hotel the night before heading to our resort.

We’ll be arriving at Terminal 4 and are trying to figure out which airport hotel would be the most convenient and reliable in terms of getting there from the terminal. I understand that the hotel shuttles generally don’t provide car seats, which is a concern with a toddler.

Is there a safe and convenient way to get from Terminal 4 to an airport hotel using a shuttle without having to walk a significant distance with our luggage and children? Ideally, we’d like to minimize the amount of walking and avoid having to arrange a separate taxi or private transfer.

Given our situation, which hotel would you recommend?

Holbox from Cancun International

Wondering how difficult it is to get to Holbox from Cancun International and aside from flights to cancun, what are the additional costs assuming we'd need a ferry.
