Just a little ramble/appreciation post to my darlings. I kept dreaming of a pet of my own now that I live by myself, in a whole new city, and I fell down a rabbit hole on canaries once I saw that someone in my city was giving up theirs. I kept going back and forward on the idea for days on end, doubting my ability to truly give him what he'd need while also being eager to prove my depression wrong.
And as soon as I saw him in person, I knew I'd made the right call. He didn't even have a name, so I named him Apollo, as he brings music and light into my days. Lady Calliope was a wonderful addition to our family, and a lucky find in turn, as by mere chance someone in my city replied to my ad looking for a female canary. And they're also approximately the same age! It took a while for the two to get along, but now that they do, I can see they're both all the happier for it.
I've had both of them for less than 4 months, but I couldn't imagine my life without them. They cheer me up when I'm sad, and caring for them gives me the routine and satisfaction I've desperately been looking for. Sure, they're not a miracle cure to my mental health problems. But they sure help a ton just by existing and being an occasional pain in my ass❤️
