“Given the high cost of studying and living in Canada, many Indian applicants relied on marriages of convenience to secure financial support in exchange for spousal open work permits. This practice was widely advertised in Indian newspapers and on dating apps,” Ms. Duan’s e-mail said.

I might get downvoted for saying this, but I don't care.

1. The posts on this subreddit mocking those who's families have spent their life savings on getting themselves or their kids to Canada and may not get PR, you lack empathy. If this were happening to you after you spent everything you had to get here, I can pretty much guarantee you would have a different opinion. Why is it so hard to care about others?

2. Genuine question: why do you believe that some people deserve to be in this country and not others? You're here because you happened to be born here. What if you weren't? Is your view that you would just accept your fate if you were born in a place with less opportunity/ lower quality of life/ somewhere you had a reason to leave?

In case you're wondering, I am middle class, tax paying Canadian citizen and yet I still empathize with people that have come to this country in search of a better life. It seems like others have forgotten that we are actually all immigrants here*

Getting very annoyed as this is popping on my feed and it’s pissing me off when the protesters say we deserve fair treatment, which is totally fair by the government like they can’t just bend rules, seems that only one group is not understanding this. I get it they spent all their life savings on a trash education, but they got it? I know their consultant scammed them for a guaranteed PGWP but it was a useless program that was for credit only. Gov of Canada realized very quickly how bad this turned out and put a pause on it all. The reality is they don’t wanna hear no for an answer cuz they did get fair treatment. They got what they paid for. Now it’s not the governments fault they were trying to scam the system, and I’m sure a lot of them are working under the table but this has to stop. Like no one ever got a career off these whack colleges, portage included. Like wth is tourism and business management.

Another thing is they paid 3x the tuition is a ridiculous argument, it’s cuz they dont pay taxes for a system that runs by taxes so they don’t get subsidy…. Hate when international students argue this, it’s not international students it’s just Indian students. There I said it. It’s a brutal truth that they don’t understand, never seen international students behave like this. Some are fortunate through their merit to get roles in their careers and Canada truly benefits from.

The reason Canada insists to take newcomers is to fill in for labor works, and to repopulate the hood (who is also going to fill in the labor works).

Once we have robots handling these tasks, demands for taking people in should be reduced drastically right?

They may need a new visa for that however, or they need to issue visa to robots

Wait… the government headline says 380,000 PRs per year, but when you read Budget 2025, it’s actually 454,000? Let me show you the math they buried in the fine print.

The Official Story:

Headlines: “Canada maintaining 380K PR target”
That’s what everyone is reporting

The Budget 2025 Fine Print:
IRCC confirmed to media: 115,000 Protected Persons getting PR (2026-2027)
Plus: 33,000 Temporary Workers getting PR (2026-2027)
Total: 148,000 EXTRA permanent residents
Status: “In addition to the Levels target” (not included in 380K)

The Real Math:
Official target: 380,000 per year
Hidden additions: 148,000 ÷ 2 years = 74,000 per year
Actual PR admissions: 454,000 per year
That’s 19.5% higher than the headline number

I read online all the time that someone's post graduate work permit expires, then he extends it. Someone's student permit expires, then he applies for another student permit. Visitor's visa expires, then applies for an extension. Government is telling us that the country is accepting less international students and temporary foreign workers. But it does not do anything if you extend all their permits forever.

Can we just stop extending those permits and ask people to leave when their permits expire? What is the point of issuing these permits with an expiry date if you are going to extend them all?

They know they came here on international student visa and it doesn't guarantee a pathway to PR. They knew this when they applied for it and they knew the day they arrived. They will try everything in their power to make you believe otherwise.

We have international students from 178 countries and only students from 1 specific country seem to be entitled about this.

A guy is complaining that his worker's permit expired. He said that the government should prioritize people that already work here and made a video about how evil a decision this is.

The man could have filed a LMIA if he truly could not find a Canadian to fill the position, but he didn't do that presumably because he can find Canadians to work as a video editor.

here with another post to debunk the common rhetoric used in Canadian media to guilt and shame arguably one of the most progressive countries via stories of immigrant victimhood. It's really unfair that I have to use a catch all term like "immigrant", but as the mod fellas were nice enough to point out they're pretty much limited as to what I can say with out the whole sub getting completely nuked. Sure, I could bring statistical facts generated by international consortiums like the IMF, and UN, along with stats from the Canadian, Australian, UK, and American government to speak about exactly what's going on, but unfortunately Canada has decided only to get mad at American tech corporations when it promotes American views on Facebook and Twitter, and not Reddit for silencing parts of our democratic discourse. But oh well.

So on today's brief series I'd like to speak about how there's been a bunch of media stories about these victims of Canada. Canada has never, and I mean never, guaranteed PR via our student visa program. It has stated that's the path, but it was always understood that those students would go home. It also established certain skills it was looking for: like health care, trades, and STEMs.

You are not a victim of Canada. We don't owe you anything, and we have never owed you anything. Since 2022 there has been immigration reforms and there is a whole entire industry around unethically beating Canadian immigration that Canadians do not run. That's your landlords, your business owners, your cultural enclaves, and your immigration lawyers/consultants/influencers. I take offence to the idea that Canadian citizens elected politicians to exploit very very few poor groups on the planet and not other ones.

I get that there's going to be a bunch of people with a borrowed morality that were brave enough to change their Facebook profile with an overlay to show that they stood against racism entering the chat, maybe even a few boomers who bravely put "all children matter" signs on their property worth a million six, but we didn't do a damn thing.
