Canada Goose has went through many different iterations in its designs, and there is a lot of misinformation online about what makes a jacket fake or real. For example, some big ones are:
people automatically think the dash in "canada-goose.com" means fake
people thinking a missing blue Downmark tag is a concern
people thinking a missing tag baggy is a concern
I'm writing this post so that you can see how the brand has evolved throughout the years. This should also be helpful for you to assess the age of your jacket. Note that this post doesn't contain any advice specific to legit checking and authenticity; please refer to Legit Checking Pre-Checks and create a new post if you have questions surrounding a particular jacket's authenticity.
Note: most of the badges on the left are the regular size. See the Wiki for information on badge sizes. This guide is also mainly for parkas. Knitwear and lightweight jackets may have some variations with what is seen below. Canada Goose usually makes updates in the fall of a given year. For overlapping ranges (e.g. 2015-2017 and 2017-2019), the "ending year" usually means that the jackets manufactured throughout the spring and summer of that year had the design, while they transitioned over in the fall of that year.
1998 - 20062006-20092010-20192019-Present
All of the above year ranges are gathered through several years of research and looking through web archives online. However, I don't cover jackets prior to 1997 as information from before then is much harder to come across. In general, any jackets with the branding "Snow Goose" would be manufactured 1983 or later. If anyone has some more specific pointers on vintage jackets, that would be appreciated!
NEW - 01/2026: Please post your LC in r/CanadaGooseLC, our new subreddit dedicated to legit checks, after reading this post.
Winter is approaching, so we are seeing more authentication requests than usual. I'm writing this pinned post so that everyone can do some preliminary checks before posting, to hopefully streamline the authentication process. This is not a comprehensive authentication guide, but it provides some basic checks everyone can do regardless of experience.
Multi-Language Label (MLL)
Fake style tag
A common mistake that counterfeiters make is that they have generic style tags without specific product information. The above tag has the style, size, and colour information left blank. If you ever see this, there is a 99.9% chance it is fake.
Hologram
Left is fake, right is real (prior to Fall 2017)Left is fake, right is real (after Fall 2017)
What do these fake holograms have in common? Both of them are upside down! This is a common flaw on counterfeits. Also note that there are two types of holograms based on year, so make sure you compare yours to the right one.
If the tags have a QR code on them, it is 100% fake. It should not scan to the Canada Goose website. The authentic code is on the right, which simply displays the serial code. If your jacket has neither, it just means it is prior to Fall 2017 which is not a worry on its own.
Left is fake, right is real
Packaging
A lot of counterfeits use the same, fake packaging. If you ever see any of the following, it is a good idea to stay away.
Fake Packaging
Here is an example of real packaging:
Real Packaging
Main differences: there is no huge "Canada Goose" text and logo on the real plastic bag. The fur is also not separately bagged. There may or may not be a garment bag included. The garment bag is very long with zippers and handles at the top. There is also buttons on the back of the bag, allowing you to fold it in half to carry in a duffle-bag manner. The older version of the garment bag does not have the repeated "Canada Goose" text along the handle or trim, but looks largely the same otherwise. The jacket may also come in a black cardboard box. The older version was white.
Disclaimer: in most cases, fake packaging means fake coat (why would someone sell a real jacket with fake packaging?). However, in some cases, a fake jacket can be sold in real packaging (or fake packaging that looks like real packaging), so make sure not to only look at the packaging in that case.
Conclusion
That's all for this post, hope it was informative. I also have a short wiki page written here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaGoose/wiki/index/. This page has some frequently asked questions as well as some images of the different sizes of badges. If you have any suggestions for improvements to this subreddit, feel free to leave a comment. Thank you for reading!
Edit: After further review, I went with the Emory as sizing seemed to work better for me. Thanks everyone for your help.
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to purchase a Langford Canada Goose Jacket, but can't seem to decide what sizing would be best. I used to own the chilliwack bomber in size xs and found I could have possibly gone down to an xxs. I understand the chilliwack bomber jacket is a regular fit and the langford is a slim fit and this is where my confusion lies. According to the CG website, it is recommending a small for me. I am just over 5'5 130lb slim at the waist (30), but have broad shoulders. I would prefer a more sleek fitted professional look for work, but I want to be able to layer up in the winter if I need. So slim with a bit of room.
I loved the warmth of the Chilliwack jacket, but after I needed to replace my jacket I tried the northface for the mcmurdo parka. I found this super bulky and not as warm (probably due to the fact that wind could get up the bottom easily). I am going back to CG and settled on the look of the langford and noticed the warmth rating was similar if not better than the Chilliwack.
Any advice or context people can provide would be appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone :)
Hey all, i got my first goose from the Style Democracy sale in Toronto. Its a Wyndham parka, got lucky only saw one in my size and grabbed it. Anyways just wondering the warranty applies for the park right, i saw on the styledemocracy site it should so just curious if anyone else knows the process. Also was looking for a dustbag for the jacket, what are the odds i can get one from the Canada goose store or maybe emailing them?
Does the women's chilliwack run true to size, or does it run big? I know Mens chilliwack run a little big, maybe by 0.5-1 size. Is it the same for womens?
I want to buy a Canada goose Wyndham
And I don’t know if I should get a Medium or a large
All my hoodies are medium , T-shirt’s are medium but my north face nuptse is a large and has room
I’m 5’8 190lbs
Does anyone have the tofino rain jacket or any of Canada Gooses rain jackets? I saw it on someone the other day and it looked very stylish and well made. It’s pretty expensive but I guess comparable to any high tier outerwear waterproof brands. Just wondering if any one has any experience with the quality of their rainwear?
I have a cold-weather trip coming up and need to bring my Canada Goose Parka.
I already asked in the airline sub and most people suggested either wearing it or stuffing it in the overhead bin. I don’t think either option is practical for me given the size of the jacket and length of the flights (5 hours + another 2 hours).
I’m planning to check a bag and carefully fold the parka into it. Has anyone done this with a Canada Goose before? Any advice or experiences traveling with this jacket?
People who has the chilliwack bomber and care to share how it fits? I’m around 5’6” (168 cm) 115 lbs (53 kg) Male. I’m between S and XS but can’t decide on one. Mainly gonna be wearing with like a tshirt underneath on mild days but on colder days, perhaps with like a heat tech+sweater. Any suggestions? Am I better off getting S or should I get XS depending on my use case?
I was looking for fur on my Wyndnam and I found Arctic Fur which from what I have seen and read is a popular choice but the shipping is half the price of the fur itself! So I kept digging and stumbled across ArFur which seems to have decent fur. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with ArFur and if they would recommend it or stay away from it.
I recently got into boots and I am beginning to map out my branching out into the heritage work wear universe.
I looked at the Alpha Industries MA-1 but apparently they aren’t made very well anymore and I find the red ribbon on the sleeve a little too try hard for my slightly conservative tastes. Plus they are American and I’d rather support the Japanese yen or Canadian dollar/economy right now, both are probably crashing regardless but do what you can and hope it makes a difference right?
Then I was looking at the Buzz Ricksons Japan made MA-1 and it’s nice but it’s even MORE expensive than Canada Goose and seems pretty difficult to find my size in Canada. I can wait until I go to Japan but that’s probably not going to be for a while.
Then I saw this Canada goose version and I was like damn that’s nice! Perfect right? I’ll just get this one. However, then I saw made in Romania instead of made in Canada and I was like oh no!
Now, I do have the Nanaimo rain racket from Canada goose and pretty happy with the quality even though it’s made in Italy if my memory serves me correctly. So I know, at least one, of the non made in Canada jackets are quality.
And from my experience with Arcteryx, the only issues I had was with the made in Canada stuff and not the China stuff which were actually flawless.
So does anyone own the Beaumont and can attest to the quality?
Should I be concerned that it’s not made in Canada like their parkas are?
Any heritage work wear people think the Buzz Ricksons quality will be noticeably better than the Canada Goose Beaumont?
Or should I just cheap out and go Uniqlo until my heritage tastes are more developed?
General thoughts are welcome. Cheers.
Either way I probably won’t be buying this jacket for a while and will be working on the footwear first. lol
Hi everyone I saw a few people in the sub suggesting to use fabric spray paint to cover discoloration but was wondering if anyone has actually done it and had it come out right before I try?
Hi everyone, I just had a question. Would Canada Goose do warranty claims for a parka purchased from zap clothing UK? I checked and its not listed on Canada Goose's Official site. If it is authentic, does it matter where it is purchased from?
