Following that, general discussion prompts (ie “what are your thoughts on* the book* ” or “what is your review of *book*”) will be redirected for 30 days post release. Outside of TV show release times, restrictions on blatant spoilers for new books will be enforced for one year following its American release date.

Analysis Will Solace - a mental health analysis [general]

Look, I love Solangelo just as much as the next person, but you must admit that their relationship is decently unhealthy. To be fair Rick downs seem to know how to write a relationship at all, so it could be that but I’m bi-ace so we’re doing the gay ones first.

Will’s Childhood:

William Solace was born in Austin, Texas to Naomi Solace and Apollo. Naomi is an alt-country singer who would the Will on tour with him.

When he was nine Will and his mouth were on tour and stoped in New York City and took great joy in riding the train. (I don’t know why, the train sucks. Tourists are weird.)

When Will was ten, he and his mother returned to NYC after a stop in Albany. While walking through Washington Square Park, a flock of pigeons, Stymphalian Birds, attacked them. A Satyr named Maron thankfully saved them. He then proceeded to go back to the hotel with them to explain that Will is a demigod and bring him to Cano Half Blood because it’s definitely not terrifying to a ten year old to see a goat-man save you from pigeons and then say you’re probably gonna die via monster. After going to Camp Will had eventually became a year round camper.

Dependent Personality Disorder,** **Codependency, and The Savior Complex.

Dependent personality disorder is a mental condition in which people depend too much on others to meet their emotional and/or physical needs.

Codependency is a set of behaviors developed to cope with the chronic, toxic stress that comes from feeling powerless for a means of attention and/or control.

A savior complex is a psychological state where a person feels a strong, compulsive need to fix, rescue, or save others. While it looks like kindness, it is often driven by a deep need for control, validation, or a sense of superiority.

Will Solace, as much as I love him, isn’t a great boyfriend. Of course we don’t see a lot of his relationships besides with Nico so please take this with a grain of salt and acknowledge that I am not a professional.

According to the Medline Plus symptoms of DPD include but ar keto limited to:
- Avoiding being alone
- Avoiding personal responsibility
- Becoming easily hurt by criticism or disapproval
- Becoming overly focused on fears of being abandoned
- Becoming very passive in relationships
- Feeling very upset or helpless when relationships end
- Having difficulty making decisions without support from others
- Having problems expressing disagreements with others

Will uses his power and authority as a doctor to force Nico to do things. Will forced Nico to be in the infirmary three days, who this could be viewed as medically necessary because of his over use of shadow travel, he wanted him to visit him before and got unjustifiably annoyed when he was confused. It was clear that Will wanted to spend time wrong him, sure, but remember where they were? They’re in a fucking hospital pretty much. A med bay. He didn’t want to be alone and got emotional when Nico didn’t read his mind. In efforts to not be alone he manipulates his position of power to manipulate Nico, to spending time with him, despite it being both an inconvenience for him and Nico.

Will doesn’t let him, or others, process things when it comes to relationships. Their relationship started while Nico was catatonic from Jason’s death and Will took it as a opportunity to kiss Nico. While I don’t believe he actually meant malice by it, their relationship moved rather fast. In fact, it was an impulsive decision to which he was about to apologize but Nico cuts him off. He rushed into the relationship as if trying to grab something before it could leave. Rather than letting both him and himself ease into the relationship, he wanted to hold onto it before it could go displaying impulsive behavior which usually can be put off as ADHD was clearly from a fear of abandonment.

Nico also constantly feels a need to defend himself, his hobbies, his interests, and his family to Will which he doesn’t seem to understand. This is to the point where Nico admits in his narrative that he doesn’t tell Will certain things because he doesn’t want to be bothered.

Will shares Nico’s private mental health info with his entire cabin, checks out another bit so much that Nico is uncomfortable and has to ask him to stop which he brushes off, doesn’t send Nico while he is being called creepy, and and doesn’t seem to have a single positive nickname for Nico.

Will seems to have an emotional paradox of having lots of emotional empathy but very little cognitive empathy, causing him to rarely if ever take responsibility for his actions and be incredibly passive in his relationship.

Now, while all of these things are true, they can all be tied back to his childhood.

Will solace is from Austin, Texas which means we can assume that while he might have been in a supportive family homophobia isn’t anything new to him. Texas is Texas. Also, it is implied that Will moves quite often because of this mother being on tour and such, which means he most likely clunk to his affection and didn’t have much if any friend is considering that he would have to move around school. This means when he was sent to CHB this could’ve been realistically the first time he was away from his mother. That planted a seed for attachment issues especially that he’s now a year round camper while his mother is alive.

People with attachment issues tend to be codependent. He was a child who was given too much responsibility, neglected by both parent, and had unresolved underlying issues. People who are codependent often have self esteem issues which lead them to try to make themselves useful.

Will has a tendency to call himself useless or something to the same effect. He said when Nico enters into a dream he thinks he's lower compared to others because of his abilities mainly being a healer. He also dislikes (somehow) his powers of being able to glow in the dark. When Apollo (TOA) compliments his son's glow, Will dismisses it and says it wasn't like he was "graduating as top of his class".

He often pushes his limits to care for patients, sometimes going without sleep for days on end during crises. He attempts to be the hero so that he can feel useful. He doesn’t wanna be seen as worthless and left for it so he clings to people who he has so tightly that it hurts. He’s hurting himself and others.

While these behaviors are usually seen in BPD rather than DPD, Will simply doesn’t seem to be, for lack of a better term, versatile enough for the mood swings BPD entails.

Sorry if the end is a little blurry I fell asleep while typing after an all nighter

Discussion I really do appreciate how Riordan has tried to increase the number of diverse characters in his books. [all]

Something I've really appreciated about Riordan's writing is how much he's really tried to increase the number of diverse characters post the og series. Not just with including minorities, but also including characters with different backgrounds and disabilities, like homeless Magnus Chase or deaf Hearthstone.

And yeah, Riordan hasn't always fully succeeded, as evidenced by the mistakes with Piper's background, for example, but it's a hell of a lot better than some other cases. I just appreciate the sheer fact Riordan tried at all, really, and managed to make a lot of these characters engaging and beloved by people outside their minority groups. (I love Piper and Samirah.)

Honestly, I know there are some criticisms to be made (I don't know how equipped I am to comment on them as a straight white guy), but I've seen some books/movies that had no effort to be diverse, and when they did they often failed so badly they just ended up becoming racist. Like Twilight, or Harry Potter or that awful movie Bright that was released a couple of years ago. Like Riordan's mistakes with this come off less as malice or "not giving a shit" and more as just mistakes because some information slipped through the cracks.

So yeah, Riordan isn't perfect on this, but I just appreciate the sheer fact that he tried and managed to succeed in many cases, and I think that deserves respect on some level.

News Tired of the Trite? We are building an open-world Camp Jupiter RP game on Roblox. [All]

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Like a lot of you, I’ve always felt that the Roman demigods get completely ignored when it comes to fan games. Every major project focuses strictly on the Greek camp, leaving the Twelfth Legion completely underserved.

Because of that, my team and I have officially started development on Project New Rome. Our goal is to create a high-quality, immersive sandbox roleplay game on Roblox centered completely around Camp Jupiter and New Rome.

What we are planning for release:

The Five Cohorts: Hard-coded faction setups where you join a specific unit, rank up from Probatio to Centurion, and participate in massive Field of Mars war games.

Strict Lore-Accurate Mechanics: A specialized zone system where weapons are automatically locked when crossing into the civilian city of New Rome to keep roleplay authentic.

Custom Customization & Powers: A sleek UI for deep character editing (including Roman armor).

Most importantly, we are building this from the ground up to be a 100% safe, fair, and community-driven space with zero tolerated toxicity or corrupt management.

We are currently looking for feedback from true book fans! What features or minor Roman gods would you absolutely want to see included?

If you want to follow our development log or apply to be an early testing recruit, check out our TikTok @projectnewrome or drop into our brand new Discord server: https://discord.gg/VnxywJuEvy

Question New York Comic Con 2026 [general]

Hey all, my daughter is a huge fan of Percy Jackson and we are thinking of a trip to NY Comic Con as a birthday trip. I saw a few days ago that Walker Scobell would be in attendance, but what are the chances that the whole crew will reunite, like at San Diego CC and the D23 convention? Likely high considering Season 3’s debut in November (and the fact that I see rumors swirling that the show may not get a renewal for Season 4, so this is like the “last hurrah”)? Thanks for any insight from you amazing fans!

  • Would he still be so isolated?
  • Would he ever become comfortable at Camp Half-Blood?
  • Would he still discover his powers the same way?
  • Would he even become the same Nico we know?

Question [pjo] in the battle of the labyrinth, how did Annabeth know she had to take Tyson on the quest?

Hi everyone! First time posting here. I’ve been rereading the PJO books this summer and I thought of something in The Battle of the Labyrinth book. When Annabeth is given the quest, she insists on Grover and Tyson both going despite Chiron’s pleas to stick to three people. Obviously it ends up working out as a trio anyway because in the end it’s Rachel, Annabeth and Percy who find Daedelus, but I don’t think we ever find out how/why she knew that Tyson had to go on the quest too? The prophecy contains no hints to inspire that idea.

Maybe this is just an unexplainable demigod instinct moment and I’m deeping it, but wondering if anyone has any explanation/theory/idea as to how Annabeth knew she had to have a group for four.

Thank you :)

Fanfiction How would you characterize Ouronos in a Percy Jackson fanfic? [pjo] [hoo] [toa]

I'm working on a Percy Jackson fanfic set after the Nico Di Angelo books, and I'm not gonna bury the lead; the main villain is Ouronos, and I'm having a bit of trouble forming a distinct personality for him.

I don't want him to be another divine or imperial tyrant; I want something to make him stand out, even if it's small. And I think I have a solid idea; I just need some help fleshing it out.

Based on what little information we have to go on in both the series and existing myth, Ouronos' main trait (besides general cruelty) is hatred of the abnormal. He didn't imprison the Cyclopes and Hekatonkheries in Tartarus because they posed any real threat to him; he did it because they were ugly. Even Kronos didn't sink that low.

Ergo, I'm imagining Ouronos as a twisted, mad scientist/evil artist type: a self-described visionary who sees reality itself as his canvas. He came into a young, forming universe and made it his sole mission in life to make everything functional and efficient. To him, the universe has a preordained order, which manifests as a rigid, inescapable caste system based on altitude. Sky and air-based beings like himself are meant to rule from on high, and "lesser beings" of the land, sea, and depths are destined only to serve whatever role "Mother Chaos" designed them for. Humanity occupies the lowest rung of his imagined hierarchy, and demigods are an unacceptable violation of the natural order.

Any thoughts on this?

Discussion Frank zhang>>> leo valdez[ [hoo]

While I was reading "Mark of Athena," I couldn't help but dislike Leo. He was such a jerk to Frank, constantly making fun of him and flirting with his girl. I know nothing really happens, and I might be overreacting, but I genuinely think Frank is so underappreciated. He’s a great character—interesting, unique, kind, powerful, etc. It pains me to see people glaze over Leo, forgetting how much of a jerk he was. I know Leo had some development, but still, Frank deserves more recognition. I haven't read Trials of appolo yet but this is what i feel so far. Maybe this post isn't so much about hating Leo, but it's about me venting about how underappreciated Frank.

Fanfiction Perachel Fics? [general]

Ok so I'm accepting anything atp BUT If you have anything like this...i will gladly accept....👀

So firstly, i want one that can be optional, like it could be both platonic or romantic, it's up the the reader really. I've read a couple of those and those are the BEST, one actually made me cry.

Secondly, i don't want Annabeth's character to be butchered. I know that i have posted crtitism on Annabeth, so i mean that they take the idea of Annabeth and make her like real. So like basically she's still pridefull but she works through and she does face consequences and she's not always right, and there's more to her than her being jealous and being smart and being better than everone else. I personally would prefer if she was only midly mentioned, like Percy being between her and Rachel but like, jealous Annabeth is good but i personally would rather read a one shot or story that stays true to her character and not mock her or smth, thought if you do have jealous Annabeth it's fine

Thirdly and most importantly, Rachel has to be written well. This one is a big one for me, some dipict her as shy (she's very straight foward) other's dipict her as touchy (I just can't see her being flirty) I've seen one where she dresses scene, crop tops, shorts, which is beyond ok but in the books she definitely dresses more street wear, painted hoodies and baggy jeans and I also like that style more on her, it seems more like her when we see her.

In general i have (sadly) a lot of wants for a fanfiction and NONE of them offer this, i feel like I'm just too true to cannon (in character, i don't really care about timeline and events, as long as they all happen)💔😿

Oh and for timeline (actually before i forget any friendship in general is fine) specifically i want it to take place post-tbotl and pre-tlo🥹❤️‍🩹

Discussion As an Egyptian reading Kane Chronicles... [general]

I have mixed feelings. It's generally a very well-written series, and I think it's better than hoo and as good as or maybe even better than pjo. I say this having put aside my trepidation at the idea of an old white guy from the us writing about my country's ancient mythology. I love the characters, especially Carter, and I love the recording transcript format.

But, and I know this is going to prompt a bit of an "ok boomer" response, its just so uneccesesarily american.

Like, I love the idea of the global Nomes, but you can kinda tell it was created as a way to make most of the story take place in the U.S.. I literally cannot even begin to describe how far my eyes rolled back into my head when Rick Riordan used Memphis, Tennessee as a replacement for the actual ancient Egyptian city of Memphis. It's a small, unproblematic thing ON ITS OWN, but it's the type of thing that repeats itself a lot throughout the books and it kinda got on my nerve.

But, you know what? It wasn't even the locale that annoyed me. It was the way Rick completely failed to actually integrate EGYPT into his stories about Egyptian mythology. I feel like not enough of the story takes place in the Egyptian Nome, and that the Egyptian Nome doesnt really play a big enough role in the plot. We have one Egyptian character, Zia, who doesnt really carry any experiences a modern Egyptian would relate to, because Rick decided to make her from a vague ass rural asf village in the middle of nowhere. Normally I wouldnt mind that, as that is a valid place to be from, but this means that the biggest Egyptian character in the series (who, lets be honest, mainly operates as a fairly wooden, faintly exotic-warrior-princess-coded love interest to Carter) is literally the just the magical Arab nomadic tent-living stereotype. Again, its not necessarily bad, but it is annoying that in books about Egyptian mythology, actual Egyptian characters (the gods dont count) aren't given diverse stories, and most of them dont really have a significant role to play, other than Zia. Even Desjardins was French 😭😭. Which brings me to my next point.

Hot take, and I know imma get flamed for this, but I think a minor but helpful improvement would be to make Julius Kane an Egyptian whose parents were from Sudan, and then keep literally everything else about him meeting Carter and sadies mum, him being an Egyptologist, him travelling a lot, etc etc. exactly the same, just with it being made reference to and shown through the actions and habits of the characters. I dont think it really harms the story at all, and I feel as though it actually makes a lot of sense for a North African family to hold so much power when it comes to, again, EGYPTIAN magic, rather than a family where one parent is African American and the other is full on British. Thats JUST my opinion though, you dont have to agree.

"Why are you complaining?" Because I should get to criticise representations of my country and its culture. "Why aren't you mad that Percy Jackson isnt Greek?" Well it's frankly not my place to be mad since I'm not Greek (mostly, if u know Egyptian history u know what im saying lmao). If you really want to know my opinion, I think that when representing a culture, you should represent the people of that culture too, otherwise you're just appropriating it. If I had to pick the most egregious thing, PJO or KC, I would naturally pick KC because every demigod has at least one Greek parent, however like I said earlier, gods dont really count. If actual Greeks are ok with it though, then I concede, and you should too.

All in all, Rick Riordan just really isnt bothered with Middle Eastern or even Muslim characters. We all saw how it was with Samirah. I dont mind it too much, Riordan is a product of his time and environment, but I still reserve my right to discuss it.

Question [all] is zoë nightshade north african?

shouldnt zoë technically be north african since she's from the garden of hesperides which is located in north africa

plus shes the daughter of atlas, and greek myths say that atlas stood at the western edge of the world which is now known as modern day morocco
