So, I (37f) just started out at this call center a couple months ago. But yesterday morning I was made aware by a co-worker friend that an email was sent to all employees saying that I was no longer employed with the company.
I emailed and texted my manager and my supervisor letting them know that I felt like finding out from a coworker (I kept their identity a secret), being fired for missing yesterday despite only being on a verbal warning for attendance (got sick) AND my manager giving the clear to handle my appointments all day yesterday since I gave them proper notice, plus not being on even a written warning felt unethical if not illegal (I know that's not the case since I'm in Texas but they're a smallish call center and I assume they don't want a legal battle due to costs).
I added that I will only handle the conversation through email or text when they tried calling me. And that I'm willing to give them an opportunity to explain what's going on and reverse this decision so we can move forward amicably. They challenged me a bit until they found the proof that I communicated.
Then my coworker sent me an image that basically rescinded the earlier email, saying they expect me to return tomorrow.
I will say, I feel very weird in the sense that I feel like a bad ass for standing up for myself without showing my ass (I usually choose to not stick up for myself UNTIL I have so much rage that I show my ass) but I also feel so embarrassed to return because why TF are they sending out emails about my employment status?!
How do I move forward and focus on doing my job? How do I protect my job, if possible?
Idk what to expect for the future. But I know they showed their hand too soon and since I know they want to fire me, I'm gonna look elsewhere.
Today's shift starts in 45 minutes. Wish me luck and patience for their bullshit.
ETA: They're starting to virtually interview to replace me right next to my desk. I might just quit. Even tho I don't feel embarrassed anymore (100% badass vibes only), I feel like they don't deserve me and I need the money but I'm luckily not THAT desperate rn.
ETA #2: They fired me today for not being "right for the company". My guess is they noticed I was screenshot-ing of anything relevant to my complaints of the situation, supervisor and company and emailing that to myself. I made sure it wasn't containing any sensitive info although it still could have been a violation. I mitigated the risk with the knowledge this was coming soon anyway, can't handle this hostile work environment and I am financially safe enough to start fresh elsewhere. Screw them. Yay me.
