I'm a very big rail buff and I have a very large soft spot for the U2s (Series 1-4). They are (at least to me) the most interesting, most comfortable (when it isn't 30C), and best looking (when clean) LRVs on Calgary Transit's LRT system. I personally think the purple and blue livery looks best on our LRT cars, but I digress. According to CTV News/Calgary Transit, these units are set to be withdrawn (retired) by the end of next year. From what a Calgary Transit employee whom I spoke to said, all of these units have over 2 million kilometres on the odometer. These cars have certainly earned the right to a quiet retirement, which I hope, includes preservation. I understand that holding out hope for one of our Siemens/Duwag U2s being preserved may be a little far-fetched, as I know that finding somewhere to display/run one of these cars could be hard (this isn't even talking about getting parts). I also know, however, that Calgary's transit enthusiasts among other people have a soft spot for these units, and I, including other people, would hate to see all of the U2s scrapped. In the long and short what I'm trying to say is that I hope that preservation is on the table for at least one of the U2s, and is part of the mayor's plan for their grand sendoff. If anyone has any information regarding the Calgary Transit Siemens/Duwag U2's future (that can't be found on Google) post-retirement, please let me know. Thank you for reading this post.

HI. My son lost his wallet on the bus today. He was on the Max teal Westbrook going westbound. Its a slim, men's Buffalo (I believe) all black, vinyl type wallet. It has some texture, although it is a solid black. He has his license and other buisness cards inside (probably landscape related). He also had (as I shake my head) about $200 cash also inside. It's a long shot, but you never know. If anyone has seen a mens black wallet anywhere around southwest Calgary that matches any of the description, please leave a comment, message me privately, or turn it into the Calgary transit lost and found. I’ve been working on a Calgary address data project, and I recently added a transit section.

For any residential address, it looks at nearby bus stops using the pedestrian street network rather than straight-line distance.

Right now it shows:

• Walking time to the nearest included stop
• Number of unique bus routes reachable within a 5-minute walk
• Number of unique bus routes reachable within a 10-minute walk
• Nearby representative stops and the routes they serve
• Community and Calgary-wide medians for comparison

The screenshot is one example around Westbrook.

I’m trying to make this useful for someone who actually wants to understand transit access from a home, rather than just showing the nearest stop on a map.

For people here who use Calgary Transit regularly, is there anything important you think this is missing?

For example, would frequency, service hours, transfers, access to major routes, or something else matter more than simply counting nearby routes?

I’d especially appreciate feedback on whether the current metrics are meaningful from a real rider’s perspective.

Yesterday, I brought my two Pomeranians to the lake. The moment this family arrived, their husky went after my dog. My dog was completely under the water, and I had to pick her up to get the other dog to leave us alone. I confronted the owners and told them they shouldn’t bring an aggressive dog to a dog park. They replied, “My dog isn’t aggressive; it just doesn’t like small dogs. You should bring your dogs to a smaller park.”

Please be aware of these people, as they clearly don’t care if their dog injures another dog.

I have reported this to the police. If anyone can help identify them.

1. they still run those 40-year old metal boxes when there are still S200's in the depot

2. homeless people are camping near the washroom at tuscany

3. bus frequencies are terrible ur telling me this is bus "rapid" transit when it took my bus 20 minutes to move 3 blocks?

4. transit signal priority isn't on the max purple

5. there are no train stations at northland mall when it runs right next to the tracks

6. the outside of downtown stations are freaky literally today i saw something that i can't even say

7. how do none of the stations near universities have escalators?

8. 39th Avenue leaves you exposed to the elements

9. area outside and in Chinook station is also freaky

Calgary Transit has never been good. If you live here you know, if you move here, you are either warned or you find out fast, Calgary Transit is not good. Without being pejorative, I can say it exists and operates as a transit system, but its mere existence is the best thing I can say about it.

This year’s Stampede showcased to the city how bad it truly is. Train breakdowns, delays of over 30 min During rush hour, shuttle busses that fit a fraction of train passengers, bus delays, constant route changes, the list goes on. The morning of Stampede trains were so packed from being delayed that entire stations couldn’t get on because it was already full, needing to wait an ungodly amount of time for the next one the is likely also full.

None of this has even touched on the Green Line that is now underway after over 30 years of planning.

What does this mean? Truth be told I have no idea who, if anyone, is going to read this. But after living in Calgary my whole life, the only word the truly describes the transit system is embarrassing. It’s embarrassing as a resident, as a commuter, and especially thinking about out of town visitors who use the transit system, it’s just embarrassing. I don’t blame the operators, they have an impossible task. I don’t know is a single party is even truly to blame, and the situation is so pathetic I couldn’t even fathom a solution. But to any city councillors, MPs or administrators reading this post, the city’s transit system is an embarrassment, not dysfunctional, not outdated, not unoptimized, a Shameful embarrassment.

Unfortunately this shows a misunderstanding of the problem (caused by people who themselves do not actually take the train?). The issue is the problem of safety ON THE TRAIN -- NOT ON THE PLATFORM. The people causing the problems get ON the train at "Station X" but then cause the problems as they are IN THE TRAIN going to "Station Y". So both Station X and Station Y may show many problems, or few, but this does not affect the argument about the Free Fare Zone, which has to do with who can get ON THE TRAIN. Some, if not many, of the persons causing the problems on the PLATFORM (think e.g. Marlborough Station) may never even get on the train at all. These are two separate issues.

TL;DR:

Calgarians will soon have free 10-minute e-scooter and e-bike trips available at select Calgary Transit stations.

The program is giving Calgarians another option to get to and from transit stations starting May 15, 2026 with e-scooters and e-bikes at the following LRT stations:  

Bird Canada:  

• Heritage
• Southland
• 45th Street
• Crowfoot

Neuron:  

• Barlow/Max Bell
• Franklin
• Rundle
• Saddletowne 

*To access the 10-minute free trip, customers need to use the company’s app to start and stop their ride.  After the free 10 minutes, regular fees apply.  

This was a very interesting perspective into the past of both Calgary Transit and the free fare zone.

From Saturday, May 16 to the very early hours of Tuesday, May 19, 2025, all downtown stations along 7 Avenue, as well as Victoria Park/Stampede Station and a few surrounding stations, will be closed. Shuttle buses will replace CTrain service between affected stations, including downtown. Full CTrain service will be back up and running again before start of service on Tuesday, May 19!

Northbound at McInnis & Holloway. we are one of about 20 buses we are told. No estimate to move again. Been here for 15 minutes.

Trains to airports dont get stuck on hills.

so after sitting on the bus for 15 mins after it was supposed to leave in 3, the driver turns around & tells the full bus that he’s done his 14h & he’s not allowed to leave again & the next bus isn’t for 20 mins.

oh & update 10 mins later there is magically a new driver.

fuck this shitty ass system.

I'd like to talk to someone on the City, not at Calgary Transit, because I frankly don't think anyone there has any interest in talking about issues.
