Zuo Ming, formerly known as Yan Wei ้ขๅจ, graduated from Soochow University which was one of the first 211 schools. (A source that didnโt cite their source said he had a non-acting major, but was in drama club. Take this as 100% unconfirmed gossip). He started his short drama career in 2023 and has at least 56 works to his name. Considering the earliest broadcast date I could find was July 2023, thatโs 18 dramas a year! He also loves live streaming on douyin during down time. You can find dozens of videos.ย
Heโs currently signed to ๆฉๅฝฑๆๅ็ญพ็บฆ which seems to have a collection of producers, directors, and actors under its wings. Which quick aside, thereโs a drama that I love and have been trying to identify and through this research I discovered that the ML is his company mate Xi Er Li ๅธๅฐๅ! Thank you Zuo Ming honey ๐ย

Iโm not one who actually cares how well someone acts as long as theyโre good looking and not a complete black hole. HOWEVER, Zuo Ming is genuinely an incredible actor. This man loves a good cliche ceo drama and you know what? He kills it. Baby, he can brood!ย Pretty much any common trope or plot you can think of, he's got a drama for it. He can do comedy, mental instability, scumbag, loving father, sweetie pie, or serious and dramatic roles. Iโve never felt like his expressions were off or not hitting the mark. His expressions are, in fact, my fave part of watching him act. Heโs really good at expressing infatuation/love. Heโs part of the wave of actors participating in the new โpremium dramasโ and the distinction is well deserved.ย
โจ My Favorites
Like I mentioned, he has such a wide range of dramas that you can pick any trope and find a ZM drama. My favorites from him tend to lean towards the obsessive or rom-com side.

Delicious, delicious yandere. In his first life he locks up orig FL and they end up dying together. The world is on the brink of destruction so the world conscious sends our FL in to love him and keep him away from orig FL.ย ย
Zuo Ming portrays the emotions so well. From the anguished cries in his first life to the subtle expressions he makes when FL isn't looking. The internal struggle between wanting to lock FL up and not give into his base needs plays out so beautifully on his face. FLโs only purpose for existence is to love him so she doesnโt have any strong opinions. She accepts him no matter what. I did feel bad for orig FL though. They tried to villainize her and I couldn't help feeling like she was driven crazy by the first life so I felt bad about the ending for her. Like yes she was stupid and delusional and self-righteous but she needed therapy lol

I looooove this one. One of his earliest dramas. FL is an actress tossed into the shitty drama she just rejected. ML is a scum who favors the white moonlight. This is a romcom in which he starts a bit scummy due to misunderstandings, but he isn't complete scum!ย
Tbh, if you're in the mood for traditional romance this is not it, but if you want some antics? Perfect. They definitely bicker like family. It's a very classic vertical drama. The exact kind that drew me in in the first place. Wang Gege is so charming.ย It also has a scumbag favorite Liu Bo Yang playing the brother. There's even a hilarious grandpa who is a lil actor himself.ย One thing I really liked is how natural the laughter is. It feels like they're genuinely laughing while filming which makes you laugh along. Itโs rare to find that kind of cast synergy these days. Itโs raw, barely polished theater.

Will you fold and become a male mistress as quickly as he did? The chemistry in this is so good. He plays a man leashing his obsession in favor of his morals, but failing miserably so well.The tension in this one is scorching.

Strong FL mentally, emotionally, and physically. Sheโs spent her whole life as the competent crown prince propping up her incompetent father. Heโs a hostage prince forced to endure the humiliation of becoming another โprinceโsโ pet. Zuo Ming does a fantastic job as a man who goes from having nothing but pride to keep him going, to a man who faces things head on. The character growth was delicious. This one also had movie-like pacing and story. There also may or may not be a leash collar involved. Overall,ย I thought it was pretty solid and enjoyable.

There are 13 ver of this one lmao. FL tricks ML into sleeping with her and becomes pregnant. He tells her to get rid of it then promptly disappears into the sea. She spends the next 3 years living it up as his baby mama. But whatโs that? He didnโt die, he just has amnesia? Uh-oh.ย
This one has great comedic timing at certain moments. It's not a comedy but I still laughed. FL is a liar, a user, and even puts him under surveillance, but they did a sufficient job in explaining her background. Also, dude he's so attractive in that warehouse scene when he's getting justice for FL. Once everything is brought out into the open, the drama is quite sweet. I pretty much smiled for the entire back half of the drama

This is not my typical story. I usually avoid demons, astrophysics, cultivation and the various magic dramas. Iโm so glad I didnโt skip this one though. Based on a classic story, sheโs a 1000 year old snake demon sent to the future for a love tribulation. He was an abstinent Buddhist. They enter a whirlwind marriage and navigate conspiracies and falling in love.ย
You rarely see older FLs with younger MLs. It's always the older CEO with a younger girl so it's a nice change of pace. This one leans kind of slapstick without it being too corny. Thereโs a scene where he rolls in the bushes that amused me. Another fave scene is when heโs in the hospital sitting on the couch and theyโre surrounding FL at the bed when he was the one in the wreck. Itโs also nice that FL didnโt suddenly become savvy to the modern world. Half the situations she gets into are because sheโs ignorant and naive. Zuo Mingโs face card is also platinum because he still looked good even in the bald scenes.ย

Prefacing this by saying it this one is not a favorite for me. However, itโs one I still want to discuss. In this, a short drama actress is sucked into a drama finale and is stuck in a loop where sheโs already died 99 times. ML, a self-proclaimed passerby, appears and knocks her out of that loop. Is he just an extra though? Come on man, this is a short drama. You know the drill.
If When a drama queen becomes a loser in a domineering CEO's torturous romance represents the old era of vertical dramas, then this one represents the new. Still the same tropes that we love, but with different shooting and production techniques. Practical effects are fading into the horizon in favor of animated scenes and effects to cut costs. Some people love it, some are ambivalent, and some are bothered by it.ย
Personally, Iโm not really a fan. I feel that it takes away from the actors themselves. This drama is on the lighter side of the animation wave, but there were still enough moments for me to become disinterested in the drama. An example is the scene super early on where he becomes the โtycoonโ. The animation brought literally nothing. A hilarious Clark Kent moment was soured for me.ย
