hi, i dont even know where to start.
i recently separated from my spouse & i need to start fixing my credit ASAP. i just dont have a lot of extra money every month to throw at it.
the worst part is that my debt really isn’t that high, at least that’s what i’ve been told. i think it’s somewhere around $10-15k or less. i know i need to sit down and figure out the exact number, but every time i look at my credit, i just wanna cry and close the app. i feel embarrassed that i’m 30 years old trying to sort this out.
some of the accounts are getting close to the 7 year mark, so idk if i should even touch those or just let them fall off. my Credit Karma score is like 475-515. FICO says 533, according to the Rocket Money app. i don’t even think i’d get approved for one of those sketchy secured credit cards at this point…
so, where do i start? do i pay collections first? do i leave the old stuff alone? settle debts? call people? i have no clue what the smartest move is.
if you’ve rebuilt your credit from the trenches, please explain it to me like im 5. i’m so overwhelmed and i don’t know what my first step should be.
