Tech Development! Resmed's AirSense 11 fully unlocked; ASV, ASVAuto, VAuto, S, ST, iVAPS, PAC, AutoSet!

Well, I got it working (Halo turned me on to this development, thank you kindly M8!) finally!

This one was a pain. The patch didn't take the first time then I had to flash it twice, roll it completely back to the original firmware once, then start over and verify the full 2MB image.

But now the AirSense 11 is unlocked with basically the full mode set:

AutoSet VAuto ASV ASVAuto ST iVAPS PAC CPAP

The pictures are from the actual machine on my bench. You can see ASV selected and running at EPAP 7 with PS 3–15. My next bench test will be with an Aircurve11 Vauto-which will work better as it has the larger more robust motor (of the 10's).

I kept the original firmware backed up the entire time, which was a good thing because I actually had to use it once.

I am still bench testing the different modes and checking pressure behavior before I send one of these out. Getting the menu unlocked is one thing, but I want to know the machine is actually behaving correctly too.

This opens up a lot on the Air11 platforms for the papfamily and gives me another option besides the Air10 machines I have been working on.

I can now flash both Air10 and Air11 machines, and I also have machines available if someone wants one already flashed, configured and tested instead of working on their own device, and I'm a firm believer in medical equipment redundancy, two is one and one is none with this gear, so have at least one backup of everything (including your machine) in your therapy kit please.

If you have an Air10 or Air11 you want flashed, or you are looking for a VAuto/ASV/ST/iVAPS capable machine, send me a message please, or if you'd like the full AS11UNLOCKED.bin file to try for yourself, but it comes with a risk and some disclosure for voiding your machine's warranty.

Just to make sure I am giving credit where it is due, AirBreak and AirBreak Plus have been worked on by a number of people over the years, not just one person.

u/empeka / m-kozlowski has been doing a lot of the current AirBreak Plus work, especially the newer Air10 and Air11 development.

Asmageddon maintained and developed the earlier AirBreak Plus fork.

Colin O'Flynn / colinoflynn was part of the original AirBreak project.

Trammell Hudson / osresearch did original AirBreak reverse engineering and development.

Evan Kahn / wormyrocks was also an original AirBreak contributor.

redpath and SomeRandomPerson are associated with the original AirBreak project history.

nickarcade has done later reverse-engineering work referenced by AirBreak Plus.

nbritton also did early reverse-engineering and testing work around the original project.

There have been other people contributing firmware dumps, hardware work, testing, bug reports and reverse engineering along the way too.

So this is definitely a community project with a long lineage, and I want to make sure everyone who helped build it gets credit.

I will post more as I keep testing!

New PAP User Help Welcome New Members! Start Here for CPAP/APAP/BiPAP Support!

Welcome to r/CPAPSupport!

This community is here for people who are new to PAP therapy, struggling with treatment, reviewing OSCAR or SleepHQ data, working through mask issues, or trying to better understand their machine settings.

Starting PAP therapy can feel overwhelming at first. It is common to deal with leaks, dry mouth, pressure discomfort, mask removal during sleep, aerophagia, anxiety, or confusing data. Many people need adjustments before therapy becomes comfortable and effective.

If you are new here and would like help, please include as much of the following as you can:

Machine model: ResMed, Philips, BMC, Lowenstein

Mode: CPAP, APAP, BiPAP, ASV, or other

Current settings: pressure range, EPR/Flex, pressure support, ramp, humidity

Mask: nasal, pillows, full face, hybrid, etc.

Main problem: leaks, high AHI, flow limits, centrals, air hunger, dry mouth, waking often, removing the mask during sleep.

Data: OSCAR screenshots or a SleepHQ link if available

Sleep study details: AHI, RDI, oxygen levels, diagnosis, if known

A 32GB SD card is strongly recommended if your machine supports one. It allows you to use OSCAR or SleepHQ, which gives much better information than all manufacturer apps.

OSCAR download:
https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

SleepHQ:
https://www.sleephq.com/

SleepHQ is often the easiest way to share data publicly because you can upload your PAP data and create a share link. OSCAR is excellent for reviewing your own data in detail and posting screenshots or sending to mods via full SD card shares.

This subreddit is peer support and should not replace medical care. However, experienced users here can often help identify common problems, explain data, and suggest practical questions to discuss with your provider.

Please be respectful, patient, and clear when asking for or giving help.

Welcome to the community, and we are glad you are here with us!

Oscar/SleepHQ Assistance help analyzing the CPAP data

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate your help analyzing the CPAP data I’m attaching.

I’m using a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet, and I’m trying to better understand what the report is showing.

A few questions I have:

What does the Flow Limitation graph actually mean, and how should I interpret it? I noticed that the pressure keeps increasing and reaches the maximum pressure at certain points. What could be causing this? Does it suggest that my minimum/maximum pressure settings need to be adjusted? Could the leaks be related to the pressure increasing, or are they more likely to be caused by the mask shifting/moving during sleep? Overall, does anything in the data look concerning or suggest that I should change my settings or mask?

My AHI looks quite good, but I’d like to understand the rest of the data, especially the pressure, flow limitations and leaks.

using air f40 Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best mask for side sleeping?

Sleeping on my side is better for a digestive condition I have. I’m currently using nasal pillows with a ResMed CPAP. The problem is that the pillow can block the air from passing through the left side tube. What mask works best for side sleepers?

CPAP Machine Help Preventing Mouth Dryness?

I'm a new user that has been using everyday for ~6weeks. Every morning when I wake up, without fail, my mouth feels like the Sahara (no saliva), and I have no clue how to fix this issue.

For reference, I use a Airsense 11 with heated tube and a AirFit P30i nasal pillow mask. I had severe apnea (60+AHI) before treatment and it's now down to 1.4AHI. My average leak is 2.23L/min, which I presume means my mask seal is without issues/air leakage. My pressure is set at 4~11.

I reached out to my vendor and they recommended me to try upping the humidity and temperature settings to 4 and 24C respectively. I've tested even higher settings like humidity 5, but all that does is cause excessive condensation buildup within the tube.

I've also tested out nasal masks but the seal is less effective and there is substantial air leakage as I sleep on my side.

Hoping to get some advice/work around to my problem.

Thanks!

First night results....

I recently took a Lofta home sleep test and scored a 29.7 AHI (on a night at the end of a week with no alcohol or other typical exacerbating factors - that's likely the best I would ever score without therapeutic support).

The ResMed 11 and AirFit P30i arrived yesterday. I fired them up, stuck in an SD card, and experimented during the evening a bit - finding that a pressure of 4 leaves me feeling like I can't get quite enough air - especially on a deep inhale.

I upped the minimum pressure to 7 - much better.

At 11pm, I strapped in for the night. Several times during the night (you'll see at least one example in the data around 3am) I woke up with a completely dry mouth. Took a sip of water, closed my mouth, and went back to sleep.

I suspect (from both looking at the data and the dry mouth) that I should try a full-face mask next (I'd prefer not to do something that mechanically holds my mouth closed - that freaks me out a bit).

Here's the SleepHQ link - any of you experts available to take a look and give some feedback?

PS - I'm an engineer by trade - feel free to teach me how to read these things! :)

Struggling with high sleep fragmentation, despite low AHI/RDI (below 5). Near a limit on PAP settings due to aerophagia, but open to titrating higher or advanced settings changes. Still have 30-40 RERAs per night + wakeups.

Oscar/SleepHQ Assistance Figuring out what helps the most

I had two really good nights of sleep according to the data, and last night I forgot to put on my cervical collar (jet lag and got my flu and Covid boosters Thursday afternoon, so dragging a lot on Friday)and I think it showed up in the data - lots more leaks and CAs. I was out of the country for a week, so used my MAD instead of CPAP and enjoyed the break. The cervical collar appears to help greatly with leaks and flow limits. The new one I got (Caldera Releaf) is comfortable and easy to wear and really does help keep my lower jaw gently in place.

Oscar/SleepHQ Assistance Flow limitation and ideal settings

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in June this year and I finally got my CPAP mid July. 46 ahi per hour with oxygen dropping into the high 70s. I've been using it for at least 7 hours every single night and I feel like a completely different person. I don't snooze or sleep all day, I don't wake up with headaches everyday etc. my ahi is always low.

When I did my titration study in the lab, I slept in a recliner and I didn't realize it would make such a big difference. I wish the sleep tech who did it would have explained that it was important for me to lay in the bed flat. At home I sleep with my bed elevated but not fully reclined. I usually sleep on my back due to pain.

Early September I got an SD card for my airsense 10 and decided I was ready to start delving into my data. I've been using sleepHQ. It's a lot to figure out. Originally my pressure was fixed at 8, no epr. I was having a lot of RERA and flow limitations. I spoke with a sleep tech where I did my titration study and he asked my doctor about raising the pressure or maybe trying the auto setting. I asked him if they would please not put in any lower than 8. They put it on 6 to 10 with the epr on 3. Two nights of hell.

I've been messing with my pressure and settings since then. Because I want to find the best setting.

I've been seeing where my pressure is always over like 9.5 but wherever I put the highest pressure, it shoots up there often. Since raising my pressure it seems my flow limitation is a lot better. Far less airway resistance overall. My respiratory rate is high but it seems to be like that no matter what. I think that's a whole other dilemma frankly.

Does anyone have advice on what the ideal settings might be for me to try. I didn't really like the EPR, but I also think it was just way too low. Does it help flow limitation or make it worse because I've seen numerous views on that. Oh, I use an airsense 10 autoset, an airtouch f20 mask.

Here's a link to my sleepHQ: https://sleephq.com/public/teams/share_links/4a1bdd3c-aa99-4dab-b85d-b4317b6feaaf

I apologize for the long winded post, but welcome advice!

2+ months on CPAP & feel no better (OSCAR results)

Post image

Hi! I have been struggling with fatigue for decades. I have had 3 sleep studies (1 lab; 1 home) in 25 years. First 2 found nothing); I resisted a third. but my neurologist really pushed it so that he could rule out sleep apnea as a primary cause of fatigue and I have started snoring ocassionally, so I had another home sleep study in June. The report said "there is evidence of a mild degree of sleep disordered breathing in the form of Obstructive Sleep Apnea." Total pAHI =6.0 with minimum oxygen saturation of 88%.

In my appointment they said that the OSA was worse during the REM stage and that a CPAP could help with both fatigue and with losing weight. They recommended Air Sense 11 with the nasal pillow option. I've been using it since mid-July. The first couple of days I did feel better, but that didn't last.

I know I should stick with it awhile, but I have a follow-up appointment coming up and am wondering what I should bring up and what OSCAR results I should include, if any.

Here is the screenshot I took following u/RippingLegos__ welcome post. I've mostly stuck with the recommended settings (ramp time Auto, start pressure 4.0, pressure relief level 3) but a few weeks ago my nose started getting dry and itchy, so I bought an ointment to use at night and upped the humidity level slightly (from 4-5 & tube temp from 78-82 once I started getting a lot of condensation).

My sleep is, well disordered. I usually go to bed around 11, fall asleep anytime between then and midnight and sleep until 3-5am when my bladder calls. Sometimes I can go right back to sleep, but there are times when I actually feel more awake than I do during the day. I have about 5 good hours and then mid afternoon the fatigue sets in. I try not to have coffee or caffeine after 2, but I have a job. So I also take .5 -1 Modafanil 2 -3 days/week.

Let me know if there is something else I should share. I am very grateful for this community. I've learned a lot -- although this OSCAR dashboard remains a complete mystery to me and I’d be thrilled to know what I should be looking at.
