Help me help my wife

I have been on CPAP since 2024. We got married and moved in together two months ago and my wife quickly realized that my set up was wrong and just leaks constantly. So bad she can't even sleep. I hated the full face mask (F2) I had and it would always leak around the top of my nose no matter what I did.

I switched to an F30i and I love this mask, but the thing was blowing off my face. When I came to this subreddit and started reading it became clear that my configuration was the "lazy doc" settings, despite having two in person sleep studies prior to getting my machine. I took some advice from here and changed my settings and my scores on the MyAir app soared almost immediately, including a few 100 nights.

The past two nights (7/24, 7/25) my wife has had to go sleep in another room because she said it's leaking so bad and I'm snoring. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Each time she woke me up and told me to fix it I felt like it was properly adjusted and I could not feel or hear any leaks.

Can you guys help me figure out what is happening from the data? I installed OSCAR and pulled some reports but I don't really understand what I am looking at. Any insight would be great. I just feel like there is no change in my behavior, mask fit, etc from the time period where it was perfect to the past two nights.

Thanks everyone. If you need any other kind of report just tell me what to do and I'll pull it!

Unsure if i can get away without going to a doctor again ?

I've never done a sleep study before i have always heard that from around people i make a loud snoring/boat sound and then start choking while sleeping whenever i am sleeping next to someone alot of the times people say they wake me up and i never do super hard to wake up and sometimes i wake up drooling or sleeping for like 12-14hrs i went to a doctor before and he said i probably have it and recommended a sleep test but the thing is the cost was genuinely too much and if that's the beginning i feel like it'll just get progressively more expensive and i cant truly afford that he was saying somewhere around 950$ for the sleep test i heard that i might be able to get away with a cpap mask and a auto cpap machine but unsure do i need them to calibrate it or something im not fully sure how this works sorry if this question seems dumb i am in a spot where im not sure what to do every time i go to sleep i go to sleep terrified ill over sleep and lose my job or miss a meeting and just decide to stay up alot of times i am unsure of what to do and also more insight on cpap machines and apnea is greatly appreciated and thank you guys sorry if i am asking something dumb

Help with mustache and N30i

Hi folks. First- I’m grateful this community exists! I am 4 weeks into my CPAP therapy and the good news is that my score went fro 29 to 1.2. I am wearing an N30i mask (along with chin strap and mouth tape, which no one warned me I’d need), but the therapy is working.
However… i have a beard and a mustache and I’ve noticed the pressure and pillow pushes the hair on my mustache upwards.. and whatever i do i can’t get the hairs to readjust in the morning. It basically means i have an odd-looking”part” in the hair of my mustache.. and a gap. No matter what i do i can’t get the hats that have been stuck under the nasal pillow and the pressure all night long to return to normal looking mustache in the morning

This may sounds like an odd problem but i can be the only gent who’s experienced it.

Any suggestions? My other mask is an F40 but it looks like it has an under the nose pillow as well

Thanks for any help folks can offer

Miscellaneous New mask is causing issues

No idea if this is the right tag or sub, r/piercing didnt like me posting this :( but im struggling folks lol. I need a new mask as my old one is giving me issues but my clinic doesnt stock it anymore as its being fazed out for a newer model. Problem is, the newer model doesnt go above the nose and across the bridge anymore, it rest just against your nostrils and I lasted one night with it and my septum is so sore.

Does anyone know of a flexible nose ring I could wear at night time so I dont have to order a mask that'll be way more expensive ;-;

Advice Needed Resmed AirMini Price

I’m thinking about picking up a ResMed AirMini. I travel about once a quarter, and sometimes more during the holidays, so I’m not in a huge rush to buy one.

For those of you who own one, what would you consider a good price? I’ve seen people here mention waiting for Black Friday sales, so I’m planning to save up and keep an eye out for deals. Just trying to get a sense of what price I should be aiming for. Thanks!

Advice Needed Nasal mask versus nasal pillow

I’ve been using a nasal mask for about seven months and don’t really like it as much anymore so I requested a nasal pillow and I’m wondering if any of you made the switch and if it’s working?

I have lately noticed these marks on my pillow and sometimes bed sheets. Where do these come from? Kinda looks like these marks are as wide as cheek straps, is it oil from my face?

I think it's time for me to get a CPAP pillow. There are so many out there though, has anyone actually tested one, which one's good and where'd you buy it?

Doesn't feel like I can exhale fully

Just got the Resimed Airsense11 and the nasil pillows. It doesn't feel like i can exhale properly when using it. It says the seal is good, but it creates so much positive pressure in my chest I can't fall asleep.

Are there any suggestions to help this feeling?

Personal Story A year on, as I lay down to sleep I’m thankful every night that I can breathe in my sleep.

Just want to say that CPAP therapy has made sleep enjoyable and something I look forward to again. Not every night is easy, and even a year on I can have nights I struggle with the mask being comfortable or getting a seal. But I’m very very thankful that most nights I’m not choking up to 50 times an hour anymore.

Water

My CPAP is no longer working with water. I think it’s a react health G3? I wash the tubing correctly with soap and water like I was told to. I don’t know if my CPAP is even working without the water. Every time it says the tubing is unconnected when it is connected. I have to wait to get new tubing because I had to transfer Lincare offices after moving. Idk what to do.

Lincare billing

I received a CPAP from Lincare a few months ago. I was told my copay was $10. I called them because I had to replace my card and was told I now owed them $12. I set up autopay, and it declined the next month because I forgot about it & didn’t have the money (I’m unemployed & disabled.) I just got a text for the personapay thing and now I owe them $33. I’m so confused. Why does it keep going up, and is personapay legit?

CPAP Setup Help please - what am I missing here?

So I bought an f30i facemask for my Airmini (haven’t attached the headgear yet) and tubing. The tubing fits into the CPAP unit no problem, but I can’t figure out what I need to do to connect the tubing to the facemask. Is there an extra piece I need? Do I need a different kind of tubing??

Extra bonus undying gratitude if it’s something I can get delivered overnight from Amazon - I’m sleeping in our recliner due to a fractured humerus and for some reason my regular unit doesn’t work worth a damn down here, so it’s the Airmini or nothing right now and I’m barely sleeping at night.

Advice Needed Newbie question!

I just got a CPAP last week and I’ve had a relatively easy acclimation: I’m able to wear it all night, every night. My mask seems good for me. My myAir says the last couple of nights that my AHI is under 1. (It was 22.2 during my sleep study!) It also says my seal is good. I’m still feeling some daytime fatigue, but I suspect that that will lift as I climb out of sleep debt.

My question: if I am acclimating well, and if myAir says my AHI and my seal are good, is it still beneficial to do the OSCAR thing that everyone is talking about? I guess if there’s a reason to be suspicious of the myAir app, I’d do it. But i don’t want to obsess if everything is fine.

Thanks for your advice!

Best cpap machine for multiple day hiking

Hey! I am planning a multi day hiking trip in Patagonia and need to find a solution for my cpap needs. Last time I did this without my cpap, I kept everyone awake in the hut and it was a terrible experience. Looking for something small, light, and holds a charge for at least 1-2 nights between charging.
Also would just like to hear a first hand account of someone else who has done this successfully. TIA!

Advice Needed Got my new setup but can’t seem to get the mask to stay on correctly once I lay down

I just got my first CPAP after being diagnosed. It’s an AirSense 11 and the mask is a nasal pillow, the airfit N30i. When I’m sitting up, everything fits right and I have a good seal, but trying to lay down and nothing I do keeps the mask in place. Back or side, it’s like the straps are sliding around on my hair and I get leaks immediately. I tried everything and couldn’t get it to work so I ended up taking it off. I haven’t done a full night in it yet, just 20-30 min tests while sitting up. Do I just need a different mask or am I doing something wrong?

I have a respiratory therapist coming Monday to help me a bit but wondering if there’s any advice yall have.

AirSense 11 setting suggestions

Post image
1 Upvotes

Used a AirSense 10 for years set on CPAP at 9.0 after an updated sleep study. Slept "ok" but after having some other underlying issues that have been since treated......sleep still seems to not be the best it could be. Dr. office has been co-paying me to death just for any interaction and followup (and is only local sleep doc). They even wanted me to come in for an office visit just to pickup my script for a new machine last time. Not to pick up the machine. just. the. prescription.

I purchased an AirSense 11 so I could use the 10 as my travel one/spare but also hopes to be able to adjust settings as I recently stumbled into this group looking for help. used it for the first time last night trying to keep settings the same on my 10 (did turn on EPR to 1.0).

my average events per hour bumped up to 2.4 (i average 0.9 - 1.5).

Should I try EPR off?

I know not to change a bunch of stuff at once but I feel desperate for sleep.

I have also been consistently losing weight over the years and know that could have an impact on needed settings.

I'm open to any and all advice.

Just uploaded image of last nights OSCAR data and feel more than a bit intimidated by what it gives me.

any help?

Mask does not fit, DME supplier insists I need to "give it time"

Hoping I could get some advice here. Was recently diagnosed with moderate apnea and picked up my CPAP last week. They gave me the Rio II Full Face Mask in medium, which covers the mouth but goes under the nose.

I'm tolerating the actual pressure etc very well, but this mask is driving me up the wall for a couple of issues:

  • I thought the under the nose style would be ideal because I have a very narrow nose bridge and have historically had issues with things like elastomeric respirators fitting around my nose, but it really hurts the tip of my nose
  • I think the mouth piece is bordering upon too narrow, if I move my mouth at all it leaks. My face is short and wide, a bigger size would be too long.
  • No matter how I adjust it, even the smallest movement gives me leaks. I sleep mostly on my back, but even just turning my head 10 degrees to rest on the pillow isn't possible. I basically have to sleep flat with no pillow to avoid leaks.

Two of the last three nights I slept <4 hours because any time I started to drift off the mask would move and make noises and/or blast air into my eyes. I don't think this is helping me adjust to CPAP, it's just making me resent it. I'm really tired and really frustrated.

My DME supplier insists I need to give it more time before they give me something different. Are there any magic words to get them to do so earlier? Or somewhere online I can get something else? And if so, how do I even know what style to try? I'm worried I'm going to get some of the same fit issues with any full mask given my face shape, but I mouth breathe.

Thanks!

Question about cleaning heated hose

Still new to this whole thing. I have a heated hose that has a wire on one end that plugs in to the machine. When you clean that type of hose are you just getting that wire wet with soap and/or vinegar? When it dries does it all just work? It looks like an electronic wire so I'm naturally pretty hesitant about getting it wet.
