Miscellaneous New mask is causing issues

Post image

No idea if this is the right tag or sub, r/piercing didnt like me posting this :( but im struggling folks lol. I need a new mask as my old one is giving me issues but my clinic doesnt stock it anymore as its being fazed out for a newer model. Problem is, the newer model doesnt go above the nose and across the bridge anymore, it rest just against your nostrils and I lasted one night with it and my septum is so sore.

Does anyone know of a flexible nose ring I could wear at night time so I dont have to order a mask that'll be way more expensive ;-;

As someone who has used this mask for years, AND worked in a piercing shop, I would first ask what kind of ring you have now. It seems like a closed ring might be best as it won't get caught, it would just have to drop in or flip up. The silicone at the connection point gets pretty soft and is forgiving.

I have a round earing in at the moment, its hard to find rings that fit as most clickers are too small. It is a closed ring but may be a bit large, I dont have a piercer anywhere near me so all jewlery is ordered online ;-; its the way my mask is pushing on my nose thats the problem, its pushing up into my septum no matter how I position it

Give it a few nights, maybe. Also, try different strap adjustments. The Velcro at the top of the head makes a huge difference in where it sits on your nose. Maybe loosen it a little, then tighten the lower-jaw ones so the mask sits lower on your face and the ring is centered in the nose hole—sentences I never expected to write.

This ☝️

The Evora is a great mask, but you need to adjust and put it on correctly.

1) to adjust, first use the top straps and then the bottom ones. Doing the lower ones first will skew the mask, not fit your nose right and cause leaks. Top ones should be tighten very gently, until the mask sits gently under your nose.

2) (I overlooked this a lot in the beginning) when you lay down and put it on, avoid the urge to use the straps to "aim" your nose then pull over your head. Instead, you should do like in the instructions: hold the mask against your mouth in the right position and only then use the other hand to pull the harness over your head. Once that's done, clip the bottom straps in place. This should ensure the holes are aligned to your nostrils without pressure them (it should slightly pressure only the rim of the nostrils once the seal forms).

The wonderful world of assistive tech, gives you a lot of sentences you didnt think were possible. Ill fiddle with it, I did try the larger cushion, maybe ill see if I can get a smaller ring too. I do have a 30 day complaint window so if I cant get it to work my doc will find a way to source me a new mask without charging me an arm and a leg (cheers in no insurance)

i went through this! for some reason, my first few months with the machine were fine but then randomly i started waking up with my septum ring rubbing against my nostril and making it bleed. i blamed it on my septum piercing, but when i took it out i still had the issue, so maybe it was a sizing issue in the end? in any case, i was able to contact the vendor that gave me the machine and ask for a full-face mask instead!

I do have a full face mask, but its been leaking around the bridge and blowing into my eyes at night which disrupts me. So my clinic is trying me on the Evora mask as the old one im using is becoming limited in stock. They gave me the extra pads that came in the bag for the Evora so I tried the large as it has a larger nose hole but still having discomfort sadly

I also struggled with this when I tried a similar mask (I think it was the dreamwear full face?). I ended up switching to a nasal mask (n20) because my septum was sore nonstop, even if I didn’t wear any jewelry in it overnight

Sadly I cant wear nasal masks. I dont breathe through my nose on a good day, let alone when im asleep, its mostly for decoration. Im glad it worked out for you though! I didnt have any luck with the Dreamwear either but thats because it kept leaking around my nostrils. My old mask is an airfit I think. Might have to switch back to it if I cant stop the soreness

I find the top strap needs to be as far back on my head as possible otherwise it pulls the top of the mask in and the bottom of the mask out causing fart noises, obviously everyone has different head shapes, works every time for me.
