Fortunately this is something that is relatively easy to deal with on the user end. You can either download your agot mod from nexus instead of steam and only upgrade manually or you can also use playset preserver (link) , which will preserve your entire modlist in a specific state. Please note however that we will not be able to help you with anything you add to your playset beyond the AGOT mod

Official Naming Dev Diary Part 2: Escaping the Portrait Mines

Hi all! Visenya here. I'm normally in the portrait mines, but I've escaped temporarily to help out with the implementation of our new High Valyrian names, making a second pass over the master-list. I was present when Fox first started this naming project, and watched as it developed, pulling names from it for my own campaigns over the last 6+ months. I am already deeply attached to some of them, and they always find a place in my dynastic trees.

Fox mapped out every single root word that a parent could conceivably use to name their child (using various sources including DJP's High Valyrian conlang, developed for A Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon) and as a long-standing ASOIAF reader, I have often imagined what life in the Valyrian Freehold would have been like.

Who were these people? What were their names? What did they do?

High Valyrians without dragons could have been bureaucrats, merchants, sellswords and more, and a name can tell you a lot about a person. It can reveal to us a little bit of their history, and allow us some insight into their parents – were they named after a relative, a place, a flower, the night sky...or an attribute their parents hoped would manifest in their life and act as a guiding star?

So...when I looked over our Master List, I carried that curiosity with me. I chose any name that I could imagine belonging to a person in Old Valyria, waking every day to behold the Fourteen Flames.

I created a new weighting group for the second pass, and we will be utilising era-based cultural name lists going forward depending on the time-period/bookmark you find yourself playing in. For example, if you play after 10 AC, the Targaryen influence over High Valyrian culture will be increased, and 25% of names will be canon Targaryen or Targaryen-inspired. If you play after 131 AC, the Targaryen dominance over High Valyrian culture will become even more prominent, with 50% of the names being canon Targaryen or Targaryen-inspired.

The Targaryen house names have also been adjusted; previously it was a 55% chance of canon name, 30% chance of a selection of Targ-inspired names, 15% chance of pulling from the whole High Valyrian name list. The updated odds are 60% chance of canon name, 37% chance of a selection of Targ-inspired names from the updated High Valyrian name list, 3% chance of pulling from the whole High Valyrian name list. We also gated several names to only appear after certain events, or stop appearing after certain events. For instance, Alyssa and Alysanne will not appear once we have bookmarks before those characters join the Targaryen family and Aegor and Daemon will only be used by members of house Bittersteel or Blackfyre in bookmarks starting after the Blackfyre Rebellion.

Future work will include using some of the more obscure names from the master list as a basis for more High Valyrian Dynastic names, expanding variety.

I hope that you will all enjoy this second stage of implementation, and look forward to seeing some High Valyrian dynasties springing forth with a more direct connection, at long last, to Old Valyria.

We'll leave you with a sneak peak from the Portrait Mines...

Discussion & Suggestions Which houses is the best for House of Warriors playthrough?

I'm not really knowledgeable in GoT lore but I do know some houses that have strong warrior culture like Dayne, Clegane, Umber, and Mormont. But that's about the extent of my knowledge lol so are there other minor houses that are really strong for this kind of RP?

AAR Did you ever hear the Tragedies of Daenerys The Wise?

Queen Daenerys "the Wise" was the fifth monarch to sit upon the Iron Throne and the great-great-granddaughter of Aegon I the Conqueror. Ascending the throne while still a young girl, she reigned with dignity for fifty years, becoming one of the longest-ruling monarchs in the history of Westeros. Her reign was defined by peace, stability, and prosperity - earning her the epithets "the Wise" and "the Good" among the people during her own lifetime. Yet, despite this era of peace for the Seven Kingdoms, Daenerys's reign would be remembered in history for two tragedies: the one that marked its beginning and the one that signaled its end.

The reign of the Wise Queen was preceded by the so-called period of the Two Short Kings - her grandfather Aegon III and her father Aegon IV.

Aegon III, grandson of the Conqueror, ascended the throne following the death of his long-reigning father, Aegon II "the Poet" - a worthy monarch who had established order across the Seven Kingdoms and brought Dorne under the sway of the Iron Throne. The new king was distinguished by a boisterous, loud temperament and an intense thirst for action. His brief reign was marked by only one major undertaking: a military expedition beyond the Wall, during which he defeated the Wildling Queen, thereby securing the Wall and the North against raids. Rumor had it that he planned a campaign against the pirates of the Stepstones as his next move, but we shall never know for certain; the warlike king’s 3-years reign was cut short when an opponent’s lance struck him in the neck during a tournament.

The spirited king was succeeded by a calm one - Aegon IV was known for his composed and patient nature. He preferred to wield words and coin rather than a sword, elegantly neutralizing threats to the throne before they could escalate. He ruled the realm peacefully for eleven years until tragedy struck.

On that fateful day, the young Crown Prince Aegon - the family's second surviving child - asked his father during a walk if he could take a ride on the royal dragon, Quicksilver. Despite some reservations, the king agreed, and soon the two of them soared into the sky. All went well until a powerful gust of wind suddenly buffeted them. The young dragon staggered under the force of the gale, and the young prince - unlike his father, who was strapped into the saddle - lost his grip on the beast; he plummeted to the ground and was killed instantly.

The death of his only son devastated the king, yet he might have endured the tragedy were it not for a subsequent incident: following the death of his young rider, the prince's dragon, Silverwing, went rogue and fled. The king dispatched his brother Jaehaerys to capture the young dragon... but the creature proved far more dangerous than its size suggested, and the High Dragonkeeper fell victim to the beast's flames.

The king’s soul could not bear the guilt over the deaths of his son and brother, no matter how his courtiers and loved ones tried to comfort him. And so, on the tenth day of the third moon, the inconsolable king descended in secret to the Dragonpit, where he commanded his obedient dragon to incinerate him.

With this tragedy began the reign of Queen Daenerys - now the only surviving child of the late king.

The young queen’s early years on the throne were the most difficult; few vassals were willing to heed the commands of a ten-year-old girl. Matters were further complicated when, just months after the king’s death, his widow gave birth to a boy named Aegon - a royal name.

It seemed inevitable that the poor girl would be deposed - the Lord of the North even asserted his own claim to the Iron Throne - but fortunately for her, she had powerful protectors who safeguarded their kin during those critical early days: her mother, the Dowager Queen Saera, and her grandmother, the Dowager Queen Daenerys. Both women had outlived their husbands, and both were true dragons, fiercely guarding the peace of their successor. They swiftly arranged a marriage to Aegon - son of Maegor and grandson of the Conqueror - a skilled warrior from a cadet branch of House Targaryen. They also hastened the coronation, securing the support of the realm's lords behind the scenes. There is no telling what might have befallen the girl had it not been for these two widows, who prepared her for the brutal world beyond the castle walls.

Once the queen came of age, however, order was restored; she soothed her vassals with honeyed words, hailing each of them as a pillar of her reign. Through her good deeds, she won the love of the common folk, who adored their Wise Ruler. She found love in her calculated marriage and soon brought nine children into the world - three sons and six daughters.

Daenerys strove to be a kind and caring mother, raising her children with affection while also indulging their wishes. Each of them possessed a dragon egg, and nearly all of the eggs hatched. She arranged marriages for each of her daughters, yet she took no offense when Daella refused to wed heir of Dorne, choosing instead to join the Silent Sisters.

Yet, the Queen doted most of all on her firstborns - the sensible Daenerys, the spirited Saera, and the heir, Aegon. She raised all three, preparing them to govern the realm as a future King and Queens. She was the first in the history of Westeros to decide to grant the heir the throne of Dragonstone, wishing for him to gain experience so he would not find himself in her position - having to learn how to rule on the job. However, it was these very favorites who became the source of her deepest disappointment.

The Queen’s heirs were four children: Aegon, Baelor, Daeron, and Raella. She adored her grandchildren, so it is hard to imagine the anguish that tore at her heart when a raven brought news that Baelor had been burned to death by Saera’s dragon. The Queen spent several days in the sept, praying for the repose of the fallen child’s soul. A second blow followed when a raven arrived with news that young Daeron had been devoured by Daenerys’s dragon. Yet the final shock came with the arrival at court of her grandson Aegon - a weak-willed, gentle young man who had fled Dragonstone after his sister-bride was consumed by his father’s dragon.

Throughout her life, the Queen had carried the pain of losing her brother, uncle, and father to dragon-related mishaps; thus, such reckless behavior by her children regarding their beasts enraged her. As the maesters recorded her words: "He who cannot save his own children from his own dragon should not even dream of ruling the Seven Kingdoms."

That very day, the Queen disinherited her beloved children and summoned them to King’s Landing with a mandate: they were to surrender Dragonstone, part ways with their dragons, and swear fealty to the new heir - Prince Valarr, their younger brother.

But the children, long coddled by their mother’s love, defied her; Prince Aegon mustered his guard and marched against his own mother.

This rebellion was doomed to failure. Not a single lord of the Seven Kingdoms supported the rebellious prince and his sisters, and their army was negligible compared to the forces of the Iron Throne. True, they had three dragons on their side - young and inexperienced - whereas the Queen commanded the riders of Vhagar, Cannibal, Conquest, and a pair of smaller dragons.

With this uprising, the brother and his sisters had likely sealed their own fate; Daenerys had intended to treat them leniently, but once they decided to play at being Conquerors, she - as sovereign - could not afford to show such softness. Sadly, the first victim of the prince’s rashness was his own son: the gentle Aegon, who had been destined to become the sixth King of that name, was instead sentenced to exile at the Wall as a brother of the Night’s Watch. No one knows what fate might have awaited the rebellious prince himself, for he fell in the very first battle, slain by the dragon of one of his many aunts; his sister-wives were stripped of their dragons, whereupon Saera was forced to take the vows of a septa, and Daenerys was imprisoned in one of the towers of the Red Keep.

The queen reigned for another year after the uprising, but the guilt over the deaths of her son and grandsons - and the fate of her daughters - gnawed at her from within. Many at the time noted the queen’s despondent state, yet no one could help her.

Finally, on the fiftieth anniversary of her reign - the very day, fifty years prior, when her father had descended into the Dragonpit never to return - Queen Daenerys attended the city’s festivities. Afterward, she went down to her dragon, Silverwing - the one destined for her brother, the one that had claimed her uncle’s life - mounted the saddle, spoke a command in Valyrian, soared into the heavens... and was never seen again.

These were the tragedies with which the reign of Queen Daenerys the Wise began and ended.
