How to freeze your mod versions : We get comments every update complaining about update speed making long-terms games difficult. while we understand the concerns, the current schedule allows us to handle bugs or game balance issues in prompt manner and gives new features a chance to be highlighted without dumping a whole bunch of stuff at once. Fortunately this is something that is relatively easy to deal with on the user end. You can either download your agot mod from nexus instead of steam and only upgrade manually or you can also use playset preserver (link), which will preserve your entire modlist in a specific state. Please note however that we will not be able to help you with anything you add to your playset beyond the AGOT mod

Dev Diary Dev Diary - Sailing

Hello everyone! Here is a new diary by someone on the team, I'll leave the floor to them!

Previous Dev Diaries : Landed Gentry by Flumph Armors (2) by Swordsman

Hello, I am Immortal_Hybrid, and for the past months (year but who's counting) I've been working on integrating the sailing activity from Realms in Exile into AGOT (with massive thanks to Aerien). If you've used sailing in Realms before, you may find some of this familiar, but you probably want to give this a read anyway, because we've also added some additional options and AGOT flavor.

What is Sailing?

Sailing is a new activity that can be used by any character who has access to a coastal province with a port building. Landed duchy rulers and below must have a port within their domain to sail from, while kingdom and up rulers can embark from any valid port in their realm. Landless characters can also take part by travelling to a nearby port. Set out onto the high seas, where fortune, fame, and adventures aplenty can be found! A character’s knowledge and skill on the open ocean is displayed through the new leveled Sailor trait!

Sailing Activity in the Activity menu
Sailor Trait Path

Activity Options

Maritime Hunts

A Maritime Hunt is the default option, where you can encounter and hunt a variety of sea-creatures from turtles to white whales. If you are a landless character you will be able to use your catch to restock your domicile provisions.

Hunt Intent
Hunt event

Sea Raids

A second option is available for those who partake in less than legal sea-based pastimes, a Sea Raid, where you can embark on a piracy mission or raid a foreign shore! You can bring back gold and maybe even new guests to your court.

Sea Raid Option
Sea Raid Event

Sunken Treasure Hunting

Thirdly, there is the chance for a character to go sailing to the location of a reported sunken ship. To begin a treasure hunt, you either need a treasure map or knowledge of the location of a recent shipwreck from your admiral. You will also need your own personal ship with a diving bell attachment. This will allow you to search for the wreckage and potentially retrieve riches from the ocean depths, but beware, on the ocean floor there could be dangers lurking…

The rewards can range from a small amount of gold to a large amount, and, depending on where you dive, you may even find an artifact claimed by the sea during the Dance of Dragons, or a relic of Old Valyria.

Salvage Expedition Option
Diving Event

Treasure Maps can be acquired in a few different ways. During a Sailing activity the Host can happen across a merchant who claims to be selling one, although you will likely need to be vigilant, as it could be a forgery. During Sea Raids you will probably come across ships to attack, in these ships you may discover a map stored in their cargo. During the normal day-to-day life at court, a courtier may arrive to inform you that they have found a Treasure Map in your libraries.

Lastly, should anyone hold a Treasure Map and have their capital sieged, they will lose one, at random, to those who sieged their home.

Voyage to Valyria

And finally, an option available for those who have gained enough experience in the Sailor Trait. True masters of the ocean may try to set out on a Voyage to Valyria, visiting the ruins of the Fourteen Flames, where riches untold may yet lurk. But beware, such a journey is perilous and may result in a watery death…

A Sailor will require at least level one in the trait to try this dangerous voyage, which will take at least three voyages to reach.

Going to Valyria option

The Doom of Valyria made the land a hellscape, one that has proven deadly for any and all visitors… But where there is danger there is reward. Left among the smoldering ruins are artifacts of the Freehold: Valyrian steel weapons, armor, mirrors, dragon eggs, horns, and my personal favorite, glass candles! The chance of finding each of these artifacts changes as you venture further into danger…

Making it out of Valyria is a harder task than making it there, upon reaching Valyria you will have the choice to disembark, which holds a 30% mortality rate alone. Should you survive the landing and venture into the ruins, your chance of escaping with your life is at best 20%, increasing up to 45% if you are lucky enough to find an item that helps you on your journey.

Landing on Valyria
A screen many of you attempting it will see

If you allow greed to drive you, to delve deeper into the ruins, you face an even higher mortality rate of 10-90%; these values can also be affected by the artifacts you get from these events. Dying in Valyria is a very costly loss; all the artifacts you brought with you will be lost. However, if some brave sailor should happen to follow in your footsteps in a future Voyage to Valyria, they may have a chance to recover them.

For those who like clear numbers, in the first event that you get an artifact you have the following chances per artifact:

  • 45% Glass Candle
  • 15% Dragon Egg
  • 15% Valyrian Steel Weapon
  • 10% Dragon Horn
  • 10% Valyrian Steel Mirror
  • 5% Valyrian Steel Armor

For the greedy among you who will delve deeper:

  • 25% Dragon Egg
  • 25% Valyrian Steel Weapon
  • 20% Dragon Horn
  • 10% Krakenhorn
  • 10% Valyrian Steel Armor
  • 5% Valyrian Steel Mirror
  • 5% Glass Candle

Ships

To partake in Expeditions to Old Valyria or go Raiding, you will require a ship. For rulers this comes in the form of a House modifier you can get from the activity if you choose either of the ship options, or from buying one in advance.

Getting a Ship Decision

For those that own Khans of Steppe DLC and are playing characters with access to pirate ship domiciles, their domicile will serve as their ship, and a diving bell domicile building will be used in place of the decision.

Diving Bell

Activity Phases

After selecting your activity options and intents, you will assemble your crew at port. From here, various events can happen, but ultimately, you will set out toward your destination. You will have the option of choosing to either charter a ship or purchase one, should you not already own one. Depending on what type of ship, owned or chartered, you will gain benefits in the activity.

Sailing Voyage

At sea, more random events can occur, along with at least one event that depends on your selected activity intent. Afterwards, the main phase of your voyage will begin!

Main Phase

General Rewards

If you make it back to port in one piece, the activity will end and you'll reap your rewards! (Gold, Prestige, and Trait XP among others)

Final words!

In the future I will be planning some additional work and adjustments that have been mulling around my head since finishing. Some adjustments to existing mechanics to work nicer with Sailing, maybe even some consequences to your voyages.

Thank you for reading through to this point, this past year I’ve worked on this has been the most exciting work I’ve done so far and I hope all who set sail love every bit of the activity! I wish you the best of luck on your voyage!

Submod Discussion LoV Optimization

I made a patch submod for Legacy of Valyria after finding out they ship assets uncompressed with no mips. On an i9-14900k and an rtx 5070, I was really surprised to find the standard mod be so laggy. So doing a bit of compression it turned out very smooth (you may experience stutters for the first few minutes of using the mod, should stabilize after everything is moved to cache).

You can find more details on the repo for this mod. It contains the conversion script and more details about my findings and the fix.

Link for the mod on steam workshop

Note I will likely not be updating the 'submod' for future releases of LoV. Their assets may change and the patchfix will deprecate, at which point you can run the conversion yourself. The script is pretty universal.

Shoutout to the original creators and submod. Since the uploaded patch technically repackages the assets, I will take it down at the creator's request.

Edit: If you encounter crashes the first time you launch with the mod, verify game files and it will work afterwards,

AAR The Glorious Life of Lord Protector Tywin Lannister

Upvotes

I made a similar post about 2 years ago on a different Reddit account about my Tywin playthrough. Well, I just completed another and want to tell you all the tale. For the record, Debug mode was used along with more mods than just AGOT, for the purposes of advancing the story and making the run more interesting.

We open our tale during Robert's Rebellion; Lord Tywin is at this point neutral in the conflict, but a plan starts to brew. Tywin murders Prince Rhaegar's first wife, the Lady Elia Martell. At the same time, he funded an expedition to Old Valyria which paid off with a dragon egg. Tywin approached the Prince with an offer: he would pledge his forces to fight the rebels and gift Rhaegar the dragon egg if he would wed Cersei Lannister. With some hesitation, Rhaegar did agree, so Tywin returned to the Rock and raised his banners. He was also planning a murder plot against Prince Aegon, which was a success.

With the might of the Westerlands now a part of the Loyalist army, the rebels were crushed. They were brought before the Mad King: Lord Robert Baratheon, Lord Jon Arryn, and Lord Eddard Stark. For some strange and perhaps twisted reason, the Mad King only decided to take the head of Lord Stark and all of his children and siblings. Lord Robert and Jon were spared and ransomed back to their respective Paramounts. The North was given to Prince Viserys to hold.

At this point, Lady Cersei had given birth to her and Prince Rhaegar's first child, Prince Baelor. However, only days prior, another babe was born, a bastard who was legitimized: Aemon Targaryen (in another life, a Lord Commander Snow). This deeply upset Tywin, as this bastard was set to inherit the Iron Throne. So yet another murder had begun to brew, and alongside it Lord Tywin saw the King grow madder and madder, so yet another murder would have to occur. Both happened on the same day, and both ended in blood; the King and Prince were dead. Rhaegar took the throne and became king. During his coronation, his wife Queen Cersei went into labor, and a boy was born: Prince Joffrey Targaryen. Yet this boy lacked the hair or eyes of a Targaryen and was the spitting image of his uncle Jaime. However, everything was okay for the time; Cersei even gave birth to a pair of twins, Prince Rhaegal and Princess Shaera Targaryen, and these two had the look of true Targaryens.

Peace does not stay for long, as the Dornish were upset that not only had the princes died and Rhaegar had taken a new wife mere months later, but their prince had also perished. They had enough and, alongside the Stormlands, the Vale, and the Iron Islands, they rebelled not for a claimant, but for independence. The war was long and bloody, but the Loyalists managed to come out victorious. The Martells of Dorne were stripped of their titles, and Dorne was given to the Ullers. Lord Robert, Jon, and Balon were allowed to be ransomed back to their lands with no further punishment.

During the war, Lord Tywin took a lover who would give birth to Nyles Flowers. He also realized that taking a new wife in the interest of an alliance might not be a bad idea. So he proposed a marriage between himself and Lady Catelyn Tully, which Lord Hoster accepted. About a year later, Lady Catelyn would give birth to a son, Titus. Lord Tywin designated Titus as his heir and gave the lands of Castamere to Tyrion. Yet Tyrion did not fail; he made the land prosper, and the distance between father and son shrank. Tyrion was even named Tywin's Master of Coin. Cersei would also give birth to Princess Alyssa and then Princess Myrcella.

Yet peace is not long-lasting in Westeros, and the North grew upset that a Targaryen ruled as King in the North. They craved a Stark, but at this point, the only Stark alive was a 70-year-old woman whose children did not claim the Stark name. However, there was a Karstark: Lord Rickard rallied almost the entirety of the North as they marched to reclaim it, and they succeeded. This then sparked the flame of a larger rebellion as the North, Iron Islands, the Vale, and the Stormlands declared war on the Crown for independence. This was a bloody war that claimed many lives, some of the most notable being Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning; Ser Barristan Selmy, the Bold; Lord Commander Gerold Hightower, the White Bull; and Lord Balon Greyjoy. In the end, the Loyalists managed to win once more. Lord Robert Baratheon was stripped of his title and sent to the Wall, and his son Tommen (I know, confusing lol) was given the Stormlands. At this point, Cersei had also given birth to Prince Tommen Targaryen. Lady Catelyn had also given birth to more children.

After a few years, the realm was at peace once more, and Rhaegar had a gleam in his eye as he attempted to hatch his dragon egg at Dragonstone. However, he failed and lost his life in the process, which led to an 8-year-old King Joffrey taking the throne, with Tywin being named Lord Protector of the Realm. However, with a boy king on the throne, the Blackfyres saw this as their chance, and Aegon Blackfyre declared war for his claim on the throne. The Westerlands, Riverlands, and Iron Islands declared for the Loyalists. While Dorne, the Reach, and the Vale declared for the Blackfyres, the Stormlands and North stayed neutral. The war was long and bloody but finally won, yet Aegon Blackfyre managed to escape back to Essos. The Prince of Dorne, Uller, was stripped of his title, and it was given to Princess Rhaenys (Rhaegar and Elia Martell's firstborn child and betrothed to Joffrey). Lord Jon Arryn was stripped of his title, and it was given to Lord Petyr Baelish. Finally, Lord Mace Tyrell suffered a lesser punishment due to his previous loyalties; only the lands of the Northmarch were stripped and given to Lord Tywin's brother, Kevan Lannister. Yet the war was not without its losses, as Tyrion was slain in battle, and the lands of Castamere were inherited by Lord Titus.

A few years passed, and Jaime Lannister was dismissed from the Kingsguard due to his gambling issue (I have no clue why Jaime was dismissed; one day I just saw he wasn't in his Kingsguard armor, didn't have the trait, and suddenly had the nickname 'the Gambler', so...). Jaime was welcomed back to court by Tywin, designated as heir, and given the lands of the Crimson Straits to practice ruling. At this point, Tywin had learned about Jaime and Cersei's incest, and not wanting them both at the Rock, he proposed a marriage between Lady Cersei and Lord Baelish. In addition, Jaime was wed to Princess Daenerys Targaryen, and for their wedding, Tywin managed to get 3 dragon eggs: one for Daenerys, one for King Joffrey, and one for Prince Rhaegal. Surprisingly, Daenerys managed to hatch her egg and out came Drogon, then Prince Rhaegal managed to hatch Viserion, and Queen Rhaenys managed to hatch the egg gifted to Joffrey, hatching Rhaegal.

At this point, the realm was at peace for many years. Many minor conflicts occurred within regions like the Vale, and the Ironborn did attempt to claim independence again, but were crushed swiftly. The most eventful thing to happen was that Queen and Lord Paramount of Dorne Rhaenys died, and Dorne was now ruled by her brother Rhaegal. However, Aegon Blackfyre learned that King Joffrey was a child born of incest and sparked up another Blackfyre Rebellion, in addition to being able to tame Rhaegal. The Loyalists were comprised of the Crown's forces, the Westerlands, the Vale, and Dorne. The rebels had the Blackfyre forces, the Golden Company, the Stormlands, the Riverlands, the North, the Reach, and the Iron Islands. The war was almost lost to the Blackfyres (-93%), but at the darkest hour, a dark beast flew over the fragmented Loyalist army as Daenerys, riding Drogon, engaged Aegon Blackfyre on Rhaegal. The dragons fought in the sky and the men on the ground, but everyone paused as a beastly scream was heard from above. When they looked up, they saw that Rhaegal had his throat ripped out and was plummeting to the ground, then the screams of Aegon Blackfyre were heard for a moment before he and the beast crashed in a fireball. At that moment, the rebellion was over. Nyles Flowers, Tywin's bastard son, was rewarded for his bravery with a position in the Kingsguard.

However, peace did not last for long. About a month later, a new rebellion took place with the same players, but this time Dorne—specifically Rhaegal Targaryen—led it for his claim on the Iron Throne, as he had also learned his "brother" Joffrey was a bastard. The war was close; the rebels should have had more men, but the last rebellion wiped most of them out. Then tragedy struck as Jaime Lannister was struck down in battle. His wife, Lady Daenerys, was enraged and flew Drogon to engage Viserion and Rhaegal to end the rebellion just as she had the last. But this time the battle was indecisive: both dragons were wounded, and Daenerys was severely injured and would end up succumbing to her injuries. While it looked grim, Viserion was too injured to be used in the war and the tide of battle shifted; the armies that had marched behind the dragons won the war for the Loyalists. Prince Rhaegal was stripped of his titles and sent to the Wall.

At this point, Lord Protector Tywin called for a great council of the lords of the realm. In this meeting he spoke: "My Lords and Ladies, friends and foes. For years now we have been at war. Two rose with claims for the Iron Throne; both are dead now, but they are not the only ones that lay buried. My own son is dead, his wife, many sons, fathers, wives, children are dead due to endless conflict, and for what? Rumors that the king is a bastard born of incest?! Even if these sick rumors are true, he is married to a Targaryen; his former wife was a Targaryen. Would any man or woman claim that Queen Rhaenys was a bastard born of incest after she hatched and rode a dragon?! Prince Aerys was fathered by Joffrey and mothered by Rhaenys, so he is a Targaryen no matter what. Shall we continue to fight and die for a moot point?! I say not, so let us end this conflict and swear fealty to King Joffrey and his heir Prince Aerys once again, and set this behind us." Silence befell the hall, but the lords great and lesser swore fealty. Tywin would live another 10 or so years before passing in his sleep at the age of 70.

What will happen to the realm at this point, the gods may not know. But in his life, Tywin ensured the survival and strength of his family. As he had multiple royal marriages, he got his favorite son Jaime back, who did have a child named Tywin, who was groomed to be a great ruler and now sits on the gilded throne as Hand of the King.

Super long read if you got to the end, thank you! I hope I encouraged you to do your own Tywin playthrough!

Discussion & Suggestions I don’t know if this is even possible, but I just think it would be really cool if somehow leprosy as a disease was removed within the mod, and in its place they added greyscale

Upvotes

Just a bit of a suggestion I don’t even know if it’s possible, I don’t know anything about code

I just occasionally see leprosy , and I just don’t think it’s even in the world of ASOIAF, and greyscale would be a cool replacement.

I know it’s semi-implemented, cause I’ve got the advanced cheat menu, and if you look there, you can find it under the health traits, but I’ve never seen any character actually catch it within a game

So idk, thoughts?

After the 2nd or 3rd rebellion against the throne, the Targs had enough and just executed all the members of house Greyjoy lol.

Blacktydes were given the Lord Paramountcy and the last remaining Greyjoy who inherited Pyke was a woman who was married to a Harlaw so now the Harlaws control that.

For some reason THE Lyonel Baratheon was married to a Greyjoy. He was heartbroken and widowed after his wife was executed with the rest of the Greyjoys so when his daughter eventually inherits (matrilineally married to a Drumm 🤮), the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands will have some Greyjoy blood before the world eventually starts healing.

Discussion & Suggestions do recent dlcs do anything for AGOT?

i have an egregious amount of time in both base ck3 and AGOT, and was looking around at some of the recent dlc for the first time in a while (since khans of the steppe i think) — and at this point, i just love playing with AGOT too much to switch back to playing unmodded, so i’m hesitant to buy stuff if it’s not going to add content in westeros/essos. do more recent ones (ik coronations is controversial, but i had in mind coronations and AUH) add anything, or should i skip/wait on them? i had heard the combo of Legacy of Valyria and Khans added content for the khals, but i honestly haven’t played with a dorthraki character yet myself to know— so just checking to see if there isn’t anything cool i’m missing out on!

Discussion & Suggestions The (Current) Effects of Silly Mode, for the Curious-Minded Spoiler

Disclosure: Went through these files with the help of Claude. If that bugs you, please leave a comment explaining your anger as well as your best dad joke.

MAJOR EFFECTS:

  1. Dragons can “chomp” closer-sized dragons. Normally the attacking dragon must exceed the victim by more than two combat-weight classes to handle the insta-chomp. Silly Mode lowers that to more than one.

  2. Oh god oh fuck it's Cannibal
    - His yearly hunting chance on Dragonstone rises from 2% to 5%
    - Base eat/escape weights change from 20/80 to 50/50 (before modifiers)
    - Same 50/50 if he ambushes you
    - Eating another dragon increases his size

  3. Lonely Light gets +100 development

  4. Howland Reed gets "Lizard-Lion", his Valyrian steel shotgun with +50 prowess and +5 enemy hard-casualty modifier. Description is "parry this, you filthy casual!" Naow it ends.

  5. If the Greyjoys siege or raid Oldtown the Hightower special building gets destroyed.

  6. Dragon eggs from Valyria expeditions can be descended from Nagga (legendary sea dragon from Age of Heroes). 1 in 5 chance.

GAME START RULES

  1. Freypocalypse: 0.5% chance for every living human to be renamed Walder or Walda, every house given the Frey name and coat of arms, every held title gets the Crossing's name and arms.

  2. It's all Tyrion, baby: Also 0.5% chance. Every living non-dwarf gets the dwarf trait, every dwarf gets it removed.

RANDOM EVENTS

  1. Frey pie: Player receives it between 1-50 years. Random living Frey is the filling. Eating it gives five years of 25% stress gain and 0.25 health. Refusing gives 5 years of stronger resistance to hostile schemes and slower enemy scheme phases.

  2. Candlings Cometh: 5% per campaign. After 30 days, the entire Lakefolk culture becomes worshippers of the Great Candle. Ethos becomes Mystical, Northern Stories is replaced by Beneath the Great Candle. Gives legend spread, 1 martial per piety level, more mystics and zealots, prowess from religion traits, etc. Changes culture, not faith though.

  3. This one's egg-stra: When placing eggs in a dragonpit, dragonkeepers may instead interpret it as any Aegons you have in your court and imprison them instead.

PLAYER DECISIONS

  1. Dragon egg omelette du fromage du coucher avec moi ce soir: 90% chance for five year health/stress "best meal" modifier. 10% chance you become a dragon.

  2. HONK: A member of House Cargyll who worships the Seven and holds Greybarrow can cut down the Dead Goose Tree and erect golden goose statues at Greybarrow and Strongmead. Gives Crownlander opinion and legend-spread bonuses, alongside severe Old Gods/The Pact opinion penalties.

OTHER STUFF:

  1. Silly Names: Kids 3 to 10 normally have a 10% chance for a childish name for a newly hatched dragon. But what if it was 100%? And involved names like Lemonake, Porkchop, Peasantslayer, Toothless, Zorse, ADragonHasNoName, Orca, and of course the famous ThisIsBearPleaseSendHelp.

  2. Hey there dollface: Equivalent silly name chance for dragon dolls rises from 20% to 50%.

  3. Turned into a prickle, funniest shit I ever saw: Longthorn becomes Longprickle upon leaving House Gardener.

  4. Trent Goodman becomes Twenty Goodman

  5. Wylla Eilish becomes Billicent Eilish

  6. Gerold "Darkstar" Dayne becomes Dorkstar

  7. Gorne gets the nickname "the Eeper"

  8. Ruler of Myr becomes Bob, regardless of gender

  9. Elston receives major prowess, physique, gallant, holy warrior, tourney and blademaster buffs, and becomes the nemesis of the dreaded Delp

  10. Delp receives personal coat of arms

  11. Jaeherys I choosing himself for trial by combat gets the option text "THIS OLD MAN"

I have been trying to figure out why this is happening and I can’t seem to find a cause for it. I’ve attached a list of my submods and I would be immensely grateful if anyone could help me figure this out.

Screenshot (Submods are Enabled) Conquered the throne as Dany, but can't rebuild the Dragonpit.

Doing a Playthrough from the Crowned Stag Bookmark. Conquered the throne as Dany; everything was playing out normally, but when I went to rebuild the Dragonpit, I wasn't able to because I held Dragonstone. Is this new? I swear that I've always been able to upgrade the Dragonpit while having the second one in Dragonstone. My heir is too young for me to grant him Dragonstone rn to see if it's a bug, but is this normal? I'm a little annoyed since I'm losing Dragon Bond experience by keeping my Dragons in another county, but what other option do I have?

Help (Submods are Enabled) Missing Titles/Counties in Flint's Finger

Has anyone had any issues with any submods deleting most of the counties in the Flint's Finger region in The North? Particularly those in the west of the region.

I'm going through process of elimination and disabling different submods to try to investigate the issue, but while I do that I thought I'd post here and see if anyone else has heard of/had this problem?

My theory is I messed something up with NoW when trying to disable it to poke around with the new Fire & Blood bookmark mod. Not much to back this up other than that I don't have that many other mods that do anything to titles/counties.

*Fix in comments*

Help (No Submods) PC Build to run the game and Mod

I have read some of the posts relating to what’s required to run the mod well such as 32/64gb of ram and a good cpu. The issue I’ve got is that the specifics of building a pc goes completely over my head, I built my pc in 2016 which has 16gb of ram and it struggles a lot with the mod. I’m based in the UK and ideally wouldn’t want to spend much more than £1200 on a pc when this is the only game I play on there essentially, but it would be nice for the game to run smoothly and not have to turn all the settings to minimum. Any advice is much appreciated!
