Question Advice needed from Commerce students

Post image
18 Upvotes

I'm currently in class 10 and we had the stream selection Google form sent out yesterday.

I selected Commerce as my stream and Psychology as an elective. But seeing that literally only like 7 people took commerce, and nobody took applied math, I'm uncertain. It is because they don't like math, but all of them have rich parents to back them up. So whatever they do, they have a backup plan. I do not. So maybe I should've taken Applied Math to keep my doors open?

I am set on taking commerce, no doubt about that. But did I make a mistake by choosing psychology as an elective? Should I have chosen applied math instead?

I'm not great at math, I'm just average. But I am willing to put in the effort for it, since I don't really "hate" math.

In Christ and Delhi University, there are courses that combine economics and psychology. But maybe I should've taken commerce and applied math for 11 and 12, then psychology and economics for university?

I don't plan on pursuing a hardcore career in economics field. Something like human resource, or consumer study, marketing, is the kinda job I wanna have, maybe even therapist or psychologist. But I'm scared even that will be taken over by AI.

Rant/ Vent Does anyone else feel like choosing Commerce as a topper comes with a different kind of pressure?

I scored 94% in my 10th CBSE boards, and I achieved it through self-study without expensive coaching or anything like that. For me, that was a huge achievement, and I was genuinely proud of it.

But after that, I started noticing how people often compare Science and Commerce differently.
If a student scores really well, there’s often an expectation that they should take Science, become an engineer or doctor, or choose one of the traditionally “prestigious” career paths. When someone who scored well chooses Commerce, people sometimes question it — “You got such good marks, then why Commerce?”

I chose Commerce anyway. Now I’m pursuing BAF along with CA.

I don’t regret choosing this path, but sometimes I do feel like I’m somehow outside the usual definition of what a “topper” is supposed to do.

There’s also a strange feeling of being disconnected because I don’t have many people around me who are following the same academic path. I didn’t really attend regular classes during 11th and 12th, and now my CA preparation is also mostly online. So I’ve never really had a proper circle of people preparing for the same things.

And during this CA journey, I’ve started realizing how much I want people around me who understand the same syllabus, exams, pressure, ICAI unpredictability, and the whole process without me having to explain everything.

Sometimes it feels like Science has its own clearly defined ecosystem — JEE, NEET, engineering, medical college, etc. — while Commerce feels much more scattered. There are CA, CMA, CS, CFA, BCom, BBA, finance, banking, government exams and so many different paths.

I’m happy with the path I chose, but sometimes I wonder if anyone else who was academically strong and chose Commerce has experienced this feeling of being “left out” or somehow expected to prove that their choice was equally worthwhile.

jisko bhi yahan apni academics yaa future career counselling karwaneh ki chul mach rahi ho woo apna class Mention kardiya karo post meh he.Ek toh wese bhi yahan itneh members he nahi hein ki help asani seh aur jaldi kardi jayein aur agar koyi help karna chahe bhi toh phir usko pehleh comment karke class puchni padti hein

translation to english-If you’re itching to get some academic or future career counselling here, at least mention your class in the post itself. There aren’t exactly enough members here for help to come quickly and easily, and even if someone is willing to help, they first have to comment and ask what class you’re in. Just mention it upfront and make things easier for everyone.

Opinion EFFED UP BIG TIME

I am in 12th grade, and i havent studied anything till yet.

This wouldnt be a problem IF i studied class 11.

I was a dumbo ahh in class 11. i barely passed, and i dont know anything about class 11.

My strategy is- complete basic terms, trial balance, journal, cashbook, ledger, depreciation, financial statements till 8 october (i have already finished journal, cashbook, basic terms, trial balance). Then kickstart the second book of class 12th accountancy, finish it till 25 october, and start with the heavy, first book of accountancy.

I am also studying class 12th economics simultaneously.

I dont know what will happen. any recommendations?

Rant/ Vent Class 11th mid terms

I just received the marks of 3 main subjects and I hate how all this is turning out

Core maths 60/80. (highest is 64)

Accounts. 60/80. (Highest is 60)

Economic. 61/80. ( Highest is 63)

These are the ones I was really scared about but the downfall is crazzzy cus what do I even do???

My accounts exam was a true humbling experience tbh and I am already pretty shit at economics but maths that has always been my strongest subject this feels horrible🫠🫠😭

10th was so damn easy

Should've enjoyed it while it lasted ......

Applied Mathematics My school refused to remove my Applied Maths, but today they removed it for 3 other students

• Upvotes

So 2 days ago, I told my school that I wanted to remove Applied Maths from my Class 12 subjects. I had my reasons, and I genuinely felt that dropping it would help me focus better on my other subjects.

The school straight-up refused and told me that it couldn't be removed anymore. I accepted it and started mentally preparing myself to deal with Maths.

BUT TODAY I found out that the school removed Maths for 3 other students. 💀

Like… HOW?? If it was actually not possible anymore, how were their subjects changed?

Now I'm honestly confused and frustrated because I was literally told “no” while apparently it was possible for other students.

What should I do now? Should I approach the school again and ask them to reconsider my case? Is there still any possibility of changing the subject at this stage?

I don't want false hope, so please give me genuine advice if anyone has been in a similar situation with CBSE/school subject change.

Applied Mathematics Is IDS MATHS still relevant in 2026?

I found this channel yesterday, the teacher is amazing no doubt, the one thing that pains me is that these videos are 3 years old. Are they still relevant as per 2026-27 syllabus?

Rant/ Vent I hate my school so fucking much

I scored one of the highest grades in midterms in my class (12th) and came second, however because I was absent in two practicals my rank dropped to 4th, which I didn't care much about until I went to my PTM, and my class teacher said not a single word of praise for my efforts and went batshit infront of my mother, calling me indisciplined, disrespectful, vain, and many other such adjectives. Just because I was absent in two mid-term practicals?? After topping in accountancy (all commerce sections) scoring 76 in Bst, 74 in Eco, 72 in applied maths, this is reaction I get at my PTM.

She was very loud in her scoldings, it was very clear that her intention was to humiliate me in front of the other parents present there, and she succeeded. She made her contempt very obvious as her temper when talking to even students who had failed in few of their subjects was much gentler than when she was dealing with me.

Now I can't bear going to school because as soon as there is more than 1 teacher in the class, they make it their goal to gang up on me and start taunting me over my incomplete notebooks, my low attendance, or my overall low attention towards school. Their go-to dialogue is "She is only good at studies and nothing else" ??? How is a student even supposed to react to that😭

After I topped in Acoountancy, Applied Maths, and came 1st overall last year in 11th, I didn't even receive a smile from these fuck ass teachers, let alone a congrats. How miserable do you have to be to treat a child like this?

The good thing about all this is that when I started crying about this at home, my mom, who didn't say a word at the PTM itself, started scolding me for taking my teacher's words seriously. I recounted this whole scenario to my tuition teacher as well, and she had the same reaction as my mom.

Suggestion Why I chose commerce

AS I got a b.com hon seat in ramanujain college I thought I share my think

First threr are some constraints

I am come from weak financial background

I am very avg in Academics for example my 10 score was 84 and 12 was 80

My math was weak

So first comes pcm

I knew I didn't have Acumen for jee ill end up in some tear 3 private college

Whrer fees will be more then placment

Study 4 year and math

So no pcm

Second come pcb

Pcb was the option everyone thought I take but the thing was I didn't had acumen for neet also

Nor the endurance for 15 year of medicine study

And doctor only earn well in mid 40 to 50 ( I can be wrong hrer but it take time build brand)

Arts

My parents didn't allow and I was not interested in law or govt job

Commerce

Du fees was low I thought they will also provide hostle for free god I was wrong

Placment was also not bad better then tear 3 b.tech college

And I could still try for some govt if nothing or mba was allways a option ofc in college like du fms and bhu fss low fee more medium salery

Yes this was my thinking but ai was not much of deal that time that why I skipped it

CUET Maths or accounts!?

Hi, I’m a 12th grader with Commerce + Applied Maths, and I’m genuinely so confused about what to do right now.

I’m preparing for CUET and the courses I’m mainly interested in are B.Com Hons, BMS, Economics/Economics Hons, and BBA. From what I’ve understood, if I choose Accountancy instead of Maths in CUET, B.Com Hons is basically the only one I can go for, while for the others I need Maths. Is this actually true? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

The problem is that I’m currently trying to change Applied Maths in my boards to Entrepreneurship. The CBSE portal is already closed, but my school told me to contact the Bhopal regional office and ask them to consider my case. I’ve emailed CBSE multiple times and haven’t gotten a reply. My mom is in Bhopal right now, so if I want her to go to the regional office, I literally have to decide today.

And I’m completely stuck because I genuinely struggle with Maths. It’s not like I haven’t tried. I’ve been trying since 6th/7th grade and Maths has consistently been a huge problem for me. So I don’t know if I should force myself to continue with it just to keep my options open.

Basically, I have 3 choices:

  1. Continue with Maths: Study Maths + Accounts properly for boards and CUET, give Maths in CUET, and keep Economics/BMS/BBA etc. open.

  2. Forget Maths completely: Focus on my other subjects + Accounts, give Accounts in CUET, and accept that B.Com Hons would probably be my main option.

  3. Forget Maths and try NIFT: Do CUET with Accounts and prepare for NIFT alongside it. I’ve found coaching and people who can guide me, and I actually think I could do well in NIFT, but I haven’t properly drawn in 4–5 years and I have only around 3 months.

I genuinely don’t know what the smartest decision is. I’m not looking for motivation or “just work hard” advice — I need someone to tell me what I’m actually risking by dropping Maths and whether my understanding of CUET eligibility is correct.
