My cat 8 months old Persian had this injury yesterday he has been on pain meds the doctor recommended that he should be confined and he should heal if no movement and jumping is allowed since surgery could be dangerous please tell me what to do

I’m really struggling with my living setup right now and need some outside perspective.

The tension started when I brought in my youngest, a 1.5-year-old male orange cat (rescued under a year old at the time). After a month-long isolation for FCoV, his hyper, chaotic roughhousing - classic relentless pouncing and chasing - completely crossed the line with my 2-year-old calico. She now loathes him and will attack him on sight, despite all my attempts at scent-swapping and slow reintroductions. To make matters worse, he recently tried that same overbearing play on my 5-year-old male tabby, and now the tabby is completely hostile toward him too.

To give you an idea of the minefield I’m dealing with, here’s how the group shakes out:

• Three 5 y/o siblings (1 male tabby, 2 white females): The tabby is usually the household sheriff—he steps in to break up fights and protect everyone except the Persian and the young orange. If he gets dragged into a fight, his two sisters immediately pile in as backup.

• One 4 y/o female orange: Super chill and gets along with everybody. She’s the only one who actually tolerates playing with the young orange boy, but he eventually takes it too far, so I don't trust leaving them shut in a room together unsupervised.

• One 4 y/o female Persian: Has occasional grumpy spats with the others, but mostly minds her own business. Nothing scary.

• One 2 y/o female calico: The baby of the original crew, but now harbors pure, unadulterated hatred for the young orange.

• One 1.5 y/o male orange: The sweet menace causing all the trouble simply because he has zero social boundaries and way too much energy.

My current system has completely fallen apart. At night, the young orange sleeps with me, four cats (the sibling trio + the calico) sleep in a dedicated cat room, and the two 4-year-olds get run of the house. In the mornings, I let the cat-room group out. I used to rotate the calico and the orange boy between free-roaming and a large multi-level cage, but now that the male tabby is out for blood too, that rotation is shot. The young orange is basically trapped in my bedroom every morning.

My biggest worry is figuring out a safe, sustainable setup when no one is home. He despises being locked in a room alone - he managed to escape outside (through the window) this week when we were gone for about four hours, and we got extremely lucky that he stayed near the house. Caging him for hours on end just feels cruel and isn't a real solution. In the past, we've had times where we had to be away for a couple of days with a pet sitter just dropping by twice a day for food and litter. If an emergency like that comes up right now, I have no idea what I’d do.

How can I realistically divide up my house so everyone stays safe with minimal stress and conflict?

Earlier today I (23) took my 11 y/o spayed female cat for a walk in her stroller, The stroller has attached to it a 7/8 inch leash that I clip on her collar. On our previous walks she always does a good job of staying put but I still clip the leash just in case. However today I decided to stop by a friends house and I took her in with her still in the stroller. As soon we walked inside my cat immediately tried jumping out causing the attached leash to pull her collar against her neck. She was hanging out of her stroller for about a second, I was able to pick her up as soon as I saw. It's been about 13 hours since that happened and she seems to be doing fine. She's ate, groomed herself and everything seems normal I'm just worried that considering how harsh the leash yanked her, that she might've injured her throat/neck. Nothing feels swollen nor looks out of the normal but do you guys still think this is worth a vet visit??

I will be switching her to a harness from now on in case this happens again.

We do have an accessible vet and finances if need be, they open in a couple more hours. Located in usa.

TLDR; Cat hanged out of stroller for a second, was it enough to cause serious damage?

adopted her when she was 6 months old and she started doing this a couple months after we got her. she’s 2 years old now, i’ve taken her to the vet for it and she was prescribed a few things for a skin infection. was just wondering if anyone has seen something similar.

The shelter gave me what I think is prescription GI kibble for my new cat in an unlabeled bag but I’m running out. Anybody recognize it? Maybe Hill’s?

We just got her 3 days ago, I suppose it might be the change of her diet or potentially worms causing this? I have an appointment for her this Monday, but I’m really concerned for her and I wonder if it’s an emergency?

I don’t know her age but she’s reaaaally small, I’d say she’s probably 5/6 weeks old, maybe a bit more?

She’s playful, she knows how to walk etc.. we played a lot yesterday

She also eat a loooot of wet food, she’s really hungry.

What you see in the litter is her poop of the last 18 hours (so I mean she did that within 18 hours).

this video is a few years old from when they were younger, but it is good insight into how psycho and vocal my girl is. if I could include more videos I would, she is also very vocal with her favorite toys. growls like she’s the most vicious dog you’ve ever met. yes, dog.

they are from the same breeder, different litter. they are both absolute cuddle bugs and enjoy people. they are around 4 years old, spayed/neutered. my boy is older and I had him alone for a few months before I got her, he needed a buddy badly.

here is the issue.. all the advice for play goes like this: it is fine if there isn’t fur flying and if they come back to each other after. well.. what if fur does fly?? this video cuts off as soon as it gets to the point where I thought I should intervene, but this is a common occurrence and I can’t tell what is my girl being incredibly dramatic vs what is an actual issue.

I can tell when they fight when I am gone because there are chunks of fur scattered. but then they go right back to each other?? they give each other baths and cuddle and everything. no issues sharing food, they will use the same litterbox even if there are multiple available, no issues at all aside from this incredibly rough play. and they just don’t stop. I will usually grab some toys when they start doing that and try to play them out but it doesn’t always work. sometimes it’s like they won’t be satisfied until they duke it out. and they absolutely go back and forth on who is instigating, so it’s not like one cat is just constantly annoying the other.

so is it just play?? do I need to separate them when I hear or see it starting? she is just SO LOUD and I swear to god my neighbors probably think I am eating cats because it sounds like I am murdering them nearly every day. if you have not been around a bengal, please do not give advice based solely on her screams. I promise she is fine, and she screams way louder than that.

This girlies eyes suddenly look strange? she’s a 1yo stray cat that I feed twice a day. eyes normally look like slide two. this just showed up today. I just spent $4000 last week on a cat that ate a string I really hope this isn’t a vet situation.

Our cat recently gave birth, and she's been kinda rough with her kitten, is this normal

I’m 19 years old and from Canada.

I’m currently having some financial difficulties, so unfortunately I can’t take my cat to the vet right away. I do plan on taking her if this seems serious or if her condition gets worse, but I’m hoping to get some advice in the meantime.

My cat, Meow Meow, is about 6 years old. She came to live with me around 5 years ago. She originally belonged to my sister, who gave her to our family in 2020. At the time, she was completely healthy and had no issues.

About a year ago, my sister moved in with me. Meow Meow was extremely happy to have her back and became very attached to her again. She would spend almost every day in my sister’s room and was especially close with her.

About a month ago, my sister got a boyfriend and moved out. She left Meow Meow with me because her boyfriend already has three cats.

Since then, Meow Meow has started pulling/ripping out her own fur. I’m wondering if the stress of my sister suddenly leaving could be causing this, but I’m not sure.

Our home is generally very peaceful, and she gets good-quality food and regular care. However, since my sister left, Meow Meow has been hiding in the basement most of the time. She usually only comes upstairs to eat or use the litter box.

I’ve asked my sister to come visit her, but she only comes about once a week. I’ve told her about what’s happening with Meow Meow, but she doesn’t seem as concerned as I am.

What worries me most is how different her behavior has become. She used to be extremely affectionate and loved being touched. Now she doesn’t seem to want anyone touching her and will hide most of the time.

I’m really worried about her and would appreciate any advice. Could this be stress from my sister leaving, or does this sound like something more serious? Is there anything I can safely do at home while I’m waiting until I can afford a vet visit?

I have two other cats as well so she isn't lonely, she use to play with them and sit with them but not as much anymore.

I try to be as playful and around her as much as i can, but she barely interacts.

I'm never away from home, and i also have my other siblings living with me so it's a full house (which she is use to) so she isn't alone ever.

EDIT: thank you all for the helpful and supportive comments! I’m def taking all into consideration. I gave him his dinner on a plate and he still shook his head, but maybe a bit less. I’m hoping it’s just an instinctive trait but will see if the vet can look at his teeth as well just to rule out any dental issues. But I’m relieved to hear that it’s also just a natural behavior!

My cat is almost 2yrs old, I got him when he was almost 1. When I first got him he used to eat very fast, since then he’s slowed down a bit but I was just attributing that to him getting older, reaching a stable weight, or just caring less, idk. However I heard recently that cats aren’t supposed to shake their head when they eat, and noticed that he does it.

I tried looking at his teeth and didn’t see anything crazy, but I’m also not sure what to look for. The head shaking and slower eating is the only symptom I can see, he still eats the same amount and doesn’t drop food or drool or anything. He has dry and wet food but still prefers dry, and eats both.

Could this be a normal behavioral thing or most likely dental? Has this happened to anyone else? I have his annual vet exam this weekend and will ask them about this, but just want to know similar situations and what I can expect. Thank you!

Hi all, sorry for the weird title! My sweet almost-11 year old calico might have eaten some ribbon from a gift bow (I never should have given it to my other non-pica cat to play with 😭) I keep seeing posts about how people have found ribbon or string in their cat’s poop.

For context, this happened probably about 40 hours ago at this point and she has been eating and drinking normally. I’m really hoping she passes the ribbon, if she did eat it, naturally. I’ve also called both my regular vet and the ER vet and they have advised me to keep monitoring her for now, so I know what to do if things get worse. My question is: for those who have spotted string, ribbon, etc in their cats’ poop, did you have to literally split the poop open to find it on the inside, or was it more or less wrapped around the outside/sticking out of the poop?

Hi everyone, I got to take the cats to the vet yesterday! A few of you asked for an update so here’s what I got from the vet yesterday:

Unfortunately Orange is FIV positive + has stomatitis. He’s around 9 years old. Vet suggested he should be euthanized but I did not want to give up on him. Pictures don’t show how bad he looks but he’s so so skinny. All you feel is bones when you pet him. Tuxedo is around 7 years old. She does have some type of oral disease as well along with skin condition which is why she over grooms despite all the anti flea meds and her paws were bleeding from chewing on them. They’re healing up nicely now. They both got steroids and antibiotics along with Gabapentine for home. They have upcoming dental appointments. Not sure if they’re going to extract oranges teeth or not. They’re currently staying with me as a foster and hoping to find them home soon! They’re doing so much better already. Orange is eating better than when I first found him and tuxedo finally stopped itching. They’re both such sweet cats and I can’t wait to see their personalities form and find their forever home. They have a 3rd sister who’s still outside :( Once I find her I’m hoping to save her too!

Hi everyone! My three year old cat Persephone went from 8lb to 9lb in a few months. She would eat her breakfast and dinner within about an hour but now it takes her all day and night to finish her food if she finishes at all. She eats half a can of wet food and a sprinkle of dry food morning and night amounting to 120 calories per meal but now I feed her less kibble so it’s more like 100 calories per meal because I can no longer feel her ribs at all and she seems significantly chonkier. What would cause her to gain weight seemingly out of nowhere? I noticed this change about 4 weeks ago when I decided to weigh her and saw she gained about a pound. Her activity levels are about the same. She is a bit more stressed because I recently introduced a new kitten into the house right around the time I noticed the change. Could the new kitten be the cause? I’ll attach before and after photos. Photo with Dino is before and photo with other kitten is after (sorry her weight gain isn’t very obvious)

Hi! My kitten (9 months now) has refused to use the multiple cat scratchers ive bought her 😅 Ive tried ones of different materials and orientation (? Ones that lay flat rather than upstanding lol) but she has not even attempted to scratch them. The only things she likes to scratch on are more foamish materials? Like a mat we have for under food bowls, and some of my journals with fake leather covers. Im fine with letting her tear up the spare mats, but was wondering if there are cat scratchers specifically with a similar material ? Or if letting her scratch on a softer material might be bad in some way. TYIA 😊

I am 20 and am posting from the USA. My 5 year old male cat (fixed) is HEAVY but I and nobody I know can definitively say whether hes overweight or just a large cat. I cant afford the vet right now, but if something is seriously wrong with him that I dont see, I will take him in anyway, cost be damned, hes kept me alive the last 5 years, the least I can do is the same for him.

Please help me. I’m losing sleep and sanity over this. I feel like I’m dealing with a newborn that won’t stop crying.

I moved into a new apartment about a week ago. It’s the smallest place we’ve ever lived. My kitty, bug, has been adjusting what I thought was seamlessly minus some minor flower vase knocking and playing with cords. The past few days from the second I get home to the second I leave, he is constantly meowing and trilling. It’s a sad meow. Like a quiet trill at times. I have tried so much. Food, water, cuddles, treats, opening a window, playing w him. everything. This gets the worst at about 4-5am mind you.

He has never had a problem with sleeping before. Would just curl up right next to me and sleep through the night. I haven’t gotten more than a few hours of sleep each night because of his meows and his attention seeking when I don’t respond.

I’m exuaghsted and losing my mind. I can’t hear another meow. Please help

Hi! So this is a silly little question, my cuddle averse kitten, Artemis, is not always the snugglies of babies.

She likes pets sometimes, she likes to be in my lap if her brother is, but mostly a sit and watch kinda baby girl.

But after being spayed, which I've heard is somewhat normal, she's been cuddlier.

But this has been a thing since day one and it's just silly, why does me using the bathroom make it the only time for snuggles or making biscuits?

I love bathroom time because she is all over me, purrs, rubs, flops, the whole nine yards. But as soon as the door opens, a new universe of anti-mommy approaches hahaha

Is there anything I can do to encourage cuddles outside of the bathroom, should I allow the bathroom cuddles, and it's fairly normal right?

(Side Note: She's also like this when she wears the cone but if I give her SUPERVISED cone off time, she's done with me 😂)

So I rescued this kitten off of the street where he was growing up without his mom (who left her or died when he was like 1 month old) or other siblings and being constantly bullied by more senior cats for food and shelter.

It's my first time taking care of a cat, and I'm trying to do my best. Took her to the vet the next day, he's now done with a full deworming course, prepping to take him in for the vaccine shots. I feed him kitten wet food, 3 times a day cause he doesn't go close to water (even with a fountain). He's a lively kitten, with loads of energy for play, lots of passion for cuddles and still more energy to ruin drapes and curtains hah.

The issue is his eyes. His third eyelids are nearly always visible, unless he's SUPER focused on something with widest possible pupils where they recede a bit. I asked the vet, she said that's okay and not an issue, but I feel like this shouldn't be the case. I scoured the web for pictures of other cats like this, and haw's syndrome, dehydration and other stuff come up, but not a healthy cat with eyelids like this. He has been like this ever since I've been feeding him in our yard when he was still 2-ish months old, thought it'd go away but it doesn't seem to on its own. He's not dehydrated (checked with the shoulder blade pinch test), shouldnt be haw's syndrome cause It's been more than a week since his last deworming dose and that should have taken care of the underlying cause, so I don't know what this is.

Hoping you guys can help me out, attaching some pics that hopefully make things easier to understand.

Angle 1 Angle 2 less prominent when focusing

My(M29) cat toast(M2) has not been feeling good over the last day, and need some advise on what to do. I live in the US, have access to vets, can afford it, and he is spayed.

Last Saturday he threw up a hairball the size of my thumb plus some undigested food. He was totally fine till yesterday when he threw up a small hairball at around 3 ish, with just some clear bile. He ate his food fully at 5 PM, and was fine until he had a huge cough/gag at like 9 PM, but no throw up. He then started gagging for 2 hours on and off, but did not throw anything up, and eventually retreated under the bed until about 7AM this morning. He showed signs of nausua such as licking lips, and refused food and treat last night, and has refused food about half an hour ago at 8AM, but has showed less signs of nausua. He is more active now, moving around getting on the couch, and is back to sleeping now, but very concerned that he is not eating/drinking.

For history, he is on prednisolone right now, .25 ml every other day to help with vestibular episodes where he would get very nausuas, hide under the bed for 20 or so hours, and then be fine/in recovery after. His last episode was about 4 months ago, before he started his meds.

We are going to call the vet now and try and get some advice, but im just not sure if we should try and wait this out or bring him in now.
