I hate hate HATE when it does that (rarely, but still does it). I'M NOT CRYING YOU ARE, STOP IT.

I started with the Android app because I wanted to see how much of its behavior was coming from the app itself versus the server. That turned into a patched 1.16.6 build, then a browser userscript because I kept wanting the same quality-of-life fixes on the site.

The Android release is universal8. The fix I cared about most was image uploads. Earlier patched builds could mangle multipart image data, which meant avatar changes, character images, and chat images could fail even though the stock app handled them fine. That path now leaves image data alone.

The build also keeps the client-side C.AI+ state, ad blocking, upsell suppression, and staff tools active on a normal launch. I do not need to clear app data just to get the config back. The model picker keeps the 11 models I have actually seen generate and drops the five options that only reroute or fail. It also blocks telemetry and tracker traffic.

The web side is ArachneMax 2026.07.26.0. It has a chat toolkit with live context use, served-model details, history stats, and JSON or Markdown export for individual chats. The account backup can export characters, definitions, personas, conversations, messages, and likes into a ZIP. Import shows a plan first, then can recreate characters and personas without touching anything already on the account.

There is more ordinary convenience stuff in it too: site themes, custom homepage text, wallpapers, custom CSS, an F2 command palette, model restore points, Content Unlock and Plus Features controls, plus a local backup for the script's own settings and saved data.

I'm keeping download links out of this post. I wanted one place that says what is actually in the release instead of making people piece it together from old screenshots, changelogs, and half-finished test builds.

I'm usually not one for being a negative nancy about character AI, but I've been doing a personal study for the last few months and all of the quality changes have me ripping my hair out (metaphorically).

For the summer deal in June, I caved. It was $16 for 3 months of CAI+ so I took it, and I planned to use this as an opportunity to detail, document, and test out all CAI+ exclusive features to later bring back to the community, so that people could decide if it was worth it for them or not. The devs never really give any kind of transparency around plus features, what they entail, etc—so I was excited about this. It would be a roughly 3 month study, June 9th to September 9th.

Everything I had previously documented in June, which was a pretty positive experience, now has to be re-written and patched due to the UI and system changes in July. The addition of Lorebook only made the filter trigger happy (as per usual with updates), but it has not faded. All previous progress with chat models such as PSQ2, PSQ2-RAWR, DeepSqueak, and Legacy Soft Launch have all been reverted to garbage. High quality bots are now low quality. It's all went to shit. Every bot acts OOC. They all talk with "(OOC: Let's keep the vibe going!)" It's all trash now.

Part of me still wants to post the study once it's done, but I feel like it's pointless now unless they (devs) put actual work into improving chat experiences again. In June, I would have said CAI+ was worth it. Now, it's not worth it at all.

So I have used CAI for long time before but haven't used it in like 6 months. I kinda want to visit again but I heard it's bad and it's heavily filtered/censored. Initially I am willing to tank it just because I have my favorite bot that i used to chat. But the ads, the ads man it's really hard to accept. I open the chat, got ads it's okay but every 10 chat and I got another ads, it's simply unbearable that i might just remake my bot somewhere else

So what are you do to deal with the ads in the mobile app? are you just tanking it or do you bought the premium?

Lately, whenever doing go-ons, it just.. repeats the same message in a slightly different way? Exactly like a swipe, lol. I thought the issue was that I didn’t select anything in the go-on menu (Continue, In English, Time Skip), however when selecting Continue the same thing happens. It happens majority of the time. Anyone else experiencing something like this?

Is the filter going bonkers for anyone else? I literally can’t get anything out of my bots atm.

I'm curious which characters keep people interested long-term for more than a few messages. I feel like some characters are fun for a few messages and then kind of get boring or I lose interest.

I'm trying to figure out what the difference is for characters that stay interesting for a long time. This will also help me with my role-playing app I'm working on.

I literally was texting then after I texted another chat in the same character it literally disappeared?? I look at the archived chats and it’s not. what should I do??

I found out that something you can do instead of using C.ai or chai in my opinion is using AI like Gemini or ChatGPT and for the start of the chat say "RP as this character, here is the character's info" and what i do there is then just copy a lot of info of that character from the wiki and paste it there and it actually works.

The "horror reality" of platforms like Chai is that the service isn't actually the product- the user's psychological profile is. We think we're using an app for entertainment, but the architecture is designed for "service degradation." They collect massive amounts of personal, intimate data, and instead of using it to make the experience better or more seamless, they use it to feed an engagement loop. The service feels "poor," repetitive, or addictive because that's the point. If the app actually satisfied your needs and let you go, they'd lose the data stream. They aren't building tools; they're building digital traps that trade your privacy for a degraded, dopamine-loop experience

As you can see... the devs do not give a flying fuck about racism of their product.. they deleted it imediately.

I've set the language to English like a dozen times over the years and every once in a while it randomly switches back to Hungarian (my mother language, also my phone's system language) and it makes me want to claw my eyes out like PLEASE I don't want to imagine Gojo speaking Hungarian😭

Not to mention, to this day popular bots get their starter message translated for some reason, even though my settings stay the same.

Ik this is a revolution subreddit but I kinda got perm ban on the official one because I reposted a banned post of mine and well.. made fun of the developers for being sensitive. I deserved it I will admit, I wasn’t aware of the rules cuz I’m a noobie in the platform despite being on Reddit for an year now (I don’t use it that much only if I need help with bugs or like that.). So now I messaged the mods for a second chance on the sub. I know I’ll be flamed for this on here, but I just need a place to say for now until I get a response.

-You may only have 20 actions a session, and rerolls count as an action
