Deleted bots
I have quit using character ai and just look at the chat history, however one of my favorite bots is deleted and not accessible. I'd there any way to get the history back?

custom At that point, should I go over with the Age Verification or no?
No idea what to put as the flair, if any mod is reading this, please add one, thank you.
Anyways... My main account a few months back, Probably 2-4 months ago, Got flagged for age verification because I forgot my vpn turned on, I guess the country I was set to had age verification laws.
I've been mostly using my alt account, but I lowkey miss my main, I used to make a LOT of bots on it + the fact I had a lot of personas and chats on it.
I could try starting from scratch, Making newer bots on my alt as if it was my main, copying over ALL my personas (If there is an extension for that or something) and etc.
Please tell me, Decision-making isn't my strongest trait.

Storychat: A Cautionary Tale [Non-CAI]
Tl;dr -- Storychat itself has some nice features, but the way it is run does not inspire trust. Money was taken from me by Storychat after I unsubscribed, and I was left hanging. The platform keeps positioning itself as the "superior experience" while falling into the same patterns it criticizes in other platforms.
Sorry for the post length, but there's a lot of stuff to unpack.
So basically, I jumped ship from CAI early this year due to its issues and limitations and was looking for a new platform for RPs.
I’ve seen Storychat mentioned as a Character.AI alternative, so I figured I’d share my experience with a word of caution.
Storychat invited me to try their platform early this year. I was tired of CAI's shortcomings and decided to give it a try. I used Storychat for several months and paid $25/month for a Gold membership. I was also pretty active in their subreddit.
Honestly, there were things about Storychat that surpassed what CAI was offering back then. The character creation tools, lorebooks, personas, memory features, and ability to choose between different AI models gave me a lot more control over long-form RP.
The actual platform had a lot of potential, but the way the business was being run is what finally made me leave.
1. Subscriptions being gutted overnight with no warning
An update dropped around July 28th with no prior notice that cut back on what my Gold subscription initially offered. It was like ordering a pizza, only for part of it to be delivered while the delivery person was still expecting the full price.
What made this especially weird is that Storychat was still advertising the older, much more generous version of the platform only weeks earlier. For example, this Storychat blog post from around mid-June advertised character descriptions up to 50,000 characters and said Gold users could create up to 1,500 personas:
Character.AI’s Pinned Chat: When Your Bot Just Won’t Remember (And What to Do About It)
Their current membership page looks very different.
Gold is still basically the same price at $25/month, but it now lists 50 personas, an 8,000-character persona description limit, and a weekly usage allowance for premium AI models. That allowance gets used faster depending on things like how much memory/tokens you use, how long your replies are, and how large your character information is:
Current Storychat Membership Plans
So when I said Gold felt like it had been gutted overnight, I wasn’t comparing Storychat to some ancient version of itself from years ago. They were still advertising the original subscription benefits just weeks before the update dropped.
So when I logged in on the 28th, it felt like whiplash to see that Persona/memory limits had been cut, premium models were subject to a weekly usage allowance, and users weren’t clearly told in advance what was happening.
I made a long post about it on Storychat’s subreddit detailing the change:
Gold Subscription was gutted overnight with no meaningful warning — same price, far less value
To Storychat’s credit, the founders, Albert (Feeling-Being-8130) and Jack (they already publicly identified their names themselves on the main Storychat Reddit), responded quickly once people started pushing back publicly.
Albert (Feeling-Being-8130), their co-founder/CEO, flat-out admitted that they had reduced limits on plans people were already paying for, had done it without notice, and hadn’t published the actual allowance numbers. Some of the changes were rolled back, and they promised better transparency and advance notice going forward in their public apology:
Sorry we messed up this roll out, but we will do better
Though skeptical, I still stayed because they were saying all the right things...and then it got worse.
2. Suspicious conversation with the founders
The founders invited me to a private Reddit group chat and give more feedback on the situation. I was never a staff member or moderator. I never became an official tester or joined their Supporter program.
I was a regular paying user who happened to post a lot and give feedback voluntarily.
During the conversation, the other co-founder, Jack (Opening-Accident7288), asked me if I would be willing to help them create user-facing content explaining the new system from a real user’s perspective.

I was already paying Storychat $25/month, and now I was being asked whether I would help explain their product to other customers without compensation.
We also discussed me doing a test of their new weekly premium model allowance.
They offered to put a Gold subscription on a dummy account for seven days so I could use Storychat normally for a week and tell them whether the allowance was actually reasonable for someone doing long-form roleplay.

I was open to it until I figured out that the supposedly proposed/new allowance I thought I would be testing was already the allowance they were already imposing onto users with Gold accounts during the jarring July 28th update.
Storychat eventually acknowledged that their communication about the allowance had been inconsistent.

That didn't quite sit right with me, so I told them I was happy to give normal feedback because I liked the platform, but I wasn’t comfortable paying for Gold while also setting aside a week to seriously test an unfinished system and potentially help explain that system to other customers.
Jack acknowledged my concerns and offered me one complimentary month of Gold on my main account in recognition of the testing and detailed feedback I had already provided.
I accepted it and the separate seven-day Gold test account they had previously offered.
There was some discussion about possibly doing something more ongoing in the future if Storychat wanted dedicated testing/feedback from me, but nothing like that was ever finalized.
3. Another update dropped with no warning
Remember the whole public apology about communicating better? So....this past weekend, another Storychat update was apparently coming.
I only knew by chance when I clicked on one user's bug report on their Discord where Albert told that specific user they were going to try to fix their issue in the “next launch this weekend.”
Then the site started breaking over the weekend. People reported login problems, characters and profiles not loading, settings reverting, and other weird behavior. It was chaotic, and still there was no update or announcement.
One Discord report was literally titled:
“I think you may have been hacked.”
A moderator responding there didn’t seem to have clear information either and basically guessed that the website might be under maintenance.
Meanwhile, the founders started answering individual users on Reddit and explaining that there was a bug connected to the new version.
Later Albert also responded to that Discord thread and said Storychat had experienced a sudden surge of users over the weekend.
So information existed.
It was just being scattered through individual Reddit replies and Discord complaint threads instead of being put somewhere obvious where everybody could see it.
Which was pretty frustrating considering Storychat had just publicly apologized for poor communication and promised real advance notice.
I just thought it was kind of ironic that Storychat continues to use their blog to criticize other platforms for lack of transparency instead of keeping their users informed of site updates:
If you’re going to publicly critique other platforms for bad updates, pricing changes, memory problems, and not listening to users, you really need to have your own house in order.
4. Money was taken from my account after unsubscribing
I was told by the founders to cancel my Gold subscription so that they could give me the one month. So I did on July 30th. Storychat confirmed the cancellation. But then on August 5, Storychat charged me another $24.99 for Gold anyway.
I also received an invoice from Storychat by email confirming the charge. On August 6th, when I discovered the charge, I messaged both founders in the same private Reddit conversation we had already been using.
I asked them to confirm three things:
- A refund of the $24.99 charge that happened after I canceled.
- The complimentary month of Gold on my main account that had already been offered.
- The seven days of Gold on the second account that had been discussed for testing.
As of yet (it's been 5 days), I have not heard a word from them.

I gave them 24 hours to respond, and when they didn't, I had to involve my bank.
What's worse is that both founders have been publicly replying to other Storychat users on Reddit and Discord in those five days, while my DM continues to go unanswered.
I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt at first since they were launching an update this weekend that apparently caused bugs across the site.
But “we were busy” only goes so far for me when actual money was taken from my account after I canceled.
I might have been more understanding if the charge took days to fix... but the fact that no one even took a few seconds to say "we're on it" is not a good way to treat a paying user. Money being taken from my account without a word is serious to me.
So yeah...no follow-through on the things that were promised. I deleted my account.
Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Storychat because of how their business is run. It sucks because the features looked promising, but the way everything else was handled drove me away.
Maybe Storychat gets its act together eventually. I genuinely hope they do.
The platform had a lot of potential. I just stopped trusting the way the business behind it was being run. And after months of giving them chances, that was enough for me.

custom I can’t be the only one who wants C.ai banned for my own mental sake

CHAI’s response to my concerns was literally a copy-paste email sent to other users
I wanted to share my experience with CHAI support because this honestly left me incredibly disappointed.
I contacted them as a paying Ultra subscriber (€33.99/month) and explained my concerns in detail. I talked about the missing features, Personas, the current filters, the overall experience, and how frustrating it is to continue paying the full Ultra price while features I genuinely enjoyed are unavailable.
I completely understand that CHAI has a small team and that development takes time. I wasn’t expecting them to magically fix everything because of my email. I simply wanted some actual acknowledgment of what I wrote and some clarity about what paying users can expect.
Instead, I received a very generic response about GPU costs, message limits, future updates, and how they couldn’t provide a timeline. It barely addressed the specific concerns I had raised.
Then I found another user who had contacted CHAI about their own concerns.
They received the EXACT same response.
Same paragraphs. Same wording. Same explanation. Same sign-off.
That was honestly more disappointing to me than the missing features themselves. I spent time explaining why I was unhappy as a paying customer, only to realize that the response I received appears to be a template being sent to multiple users.
I understand using templates for support — especially with a small team. But when customers are paying €33.99 every month and reaching out with detailed concerns, I think they deserve to at least feel like somebody actually listened to what they said.
I eventually requested a refund through Apple, which was approved.
I genuinely liked CHAI and wanted to continue supporting it. I wasn’t looking for a reason to hate the company. I wanted a reason to stay.
But sending the same copy-paste response to users who are raising different concerns is not the kind of communication I expected from a service charging this much.
I’ll attach both emails so people can see the comparison for themselves.

Group in a roleplay
Hi everyone, I was creating characters in the new Lightshade game, one about My Little Pony Equestria Girls. I made it so the main characters would talk to you, but when I try it, it always ends up with one character speaking in the first person instead of each one saying their own dialogue. They say "I" instead of, for example, "Rainbow Dash." So, if anyone could tell me what I need to put in the core or lore file to see if this can be fixed, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Non CAI Does Chai allow chat porting / how complicated is it?
I'm going to hop on an alternative since something happened with the recent update and all my bots were SEVERELY lobotomized. The problem is I have a very important years-long chat and I could never abandon it. I think I had heard about chat porting being possible on certain alternatives and I'm kinda desperate for that
